Disappearing links?

I've been using the mxmlChildren setter in ActionScript to
add multiple elements to textflows and paragraphs at once. After
trying the last two Gumbo builds, it seems like whenever I use
mxmlChildren setter to append an array of links and spans to a
textflow or to a paragraph, the links do not show up for some
reason (but the other spans do). Has the way this method worked
changed? Is there something special I need to do for links?
Edit: Actually, I made a coding mistake while trying to
reproduce the issue. The links are still disappearing from my
application when changing the Flex compiler to the last two Gumbo
builds for some reason. mxmlChildren doesn't seem to be the problem
though.

I recommend calling replaceChildren directly.
mxmlChildren is intended for compiled mxml and has special
handling intended of the children intended only for that case. It
tosses out links if they aren't in a paragraph.
Of course if you call replaceChildren on a TextFlow, for
example, it'll throw if you add links that aren't in
paragraphs.

"Disappearing" links - does anyone else have this problem?

Lately I have been having a small problem with Safari where, every once in a while, links disappear from the page whenever I move my mouse over them. This happens with both text that are links and graphics that are links. Luckily this problem is easy to fix -- just reload the page and it's fine -- but it is a bit annoying. This happens to me about 2 or 3 times a day. I'm just wondering if anyone else ever has this problem and if anyone knows of a way to fix it? Is Apple aware of this bug and are they working on a fix for it? Let me know if you guys know anything!

Disappearing links when importing snippet...

OK, so I have two snippets, both contain a Rectangle with an Image child.
In one of them, that is all I have.
In the other, the Rectangle is part of a group with another item.
After importing the snippet, I relink to fix the image paths.
On desktop, this works perfectly for both.
For IDS server;
1. The single, ungrouped, snippet gives me programmatic access to the link but then tells me the link doesn't exist after it has been relinked, so attempting to do link.update(); throws an error
2. The grouped snippet works perfectly as per desktop
So...
1. Does anybody have any workarounds?
2. Where can I report this bug?

Content length tool in Inspector and disappearing links

I've encountered a couple of problems, one that I've solved in a haphazard way that may be of some help to some people, and one I'm still scratching my head over.
First, often my content length in the inspector for the site page simply doesn't work. This usually happens after I've finished most of what I planned to do and have adjusted the length once or twice already. I've tried shutting down the program and/or rebooting the computer, and while that solved the problem once it usually doesn't. I also make sure for example that if I have a box, the content length is longer than the shape. Any thoughts on how this might be remedied?
Also I noticed that if you inadvertantly move a text box or shape to the back of another element, when the links reappear they no longer work. They may work on iWeb but not on the Web site once it is published. I figured out if I make a separate text box, small just for the link, and hyperlink it there after the problem, that works just fine.

First, often my content length in the inspector for
the site page simply doesn't work.
As far as the settings for Content Height in the Inspector Page tab... it's not that they don't work...it's just that they are set incorrectly by default and the dynamically expanding page in iWeb is not reflected at all in the Content Height value (or any other value in that tab).
To properly adjust the Content Height, it's best to wait until you have finished designing your page, but it's perfectly fine to make adjustments along the way, too. You need to go under the "View" menu and turn on the "Show Layout" feature. That way you can see the border between where the page stops and where the footer begins.
Focus on this border for your Content Height adjustments. I usually recommend that you simply start increasing the Content Height until you start to see the footer border start moving DOWN the page. Depending on your page, you may reach values of 1000 or 2000 or even more. But once you see the footer border move down, then you know you have reached the correct value for Content Height.

Problems linking to DLLs

I am using DLL's that were written in C# to do database calls in my program. For some reason, I am having a real problem where the link to the DLL constructor keeps disappearing. I have to manually go back and re-link all of my constructor nodes and method calls. The DLL's are all kept in the same directory as the labview code. This occurs when using both the developement code and the compiled executable. We have double-checked all the DLL versions and verified that they are correct. After re-linking each of the DLL's the code works for a while, then it loses it's link again and has to be manually re-linked to work. It is not causing the program to crash, the writes to the database error-out and the program ceases to operate as expected. The problem is quite annoying, but worst of all, we can't figure out how to resolve the issue since we are not sure what is causing it. Numerous times we have gone to "tools/advanced/.NET Assembly reference" and removed everything and then re-added all the required DLLs back in. This does not fix the problem of the disappearing link to the Constructor. If anyone has ideas or has experienced this strange problem, please respond as we are at our wits end on this one...

Have you registered your DLL? Sometimes these problems are caused by having a DLL unregistered or moving one that is registered.
Another possible problem is multiple DLLs with the same name, but I don't think that is your problem.

Mail todos consistently lose their link to messages and notes

Mail has this real nice feature of linking todos to messages and notes,
so I can jump directly from an iCal todo to the corresponding email message.
However, Mail consistently loses those links:
The todo is still there,
the message is still there,
but the two are not linked any more.
Sometimes, the todos are duplicated:
one still has the link, but doesn't appear in iCal (only in Mail),
the other appears in both in Mail and iCal, but has no link.
I have the suspicion that this occurs when I sync with iPod and/or MobileMe.
Any ideas?

I have the same issue with Mail 4.x on Mac OS X 10.6.2, although I am not synching with iPod or MobileMe.
I've tested different options thoroughly. I first had MobileMe setup as an IMAP account, and in Preferences elected to store new notes and 'to do' items in the MobileMe account. This *did not* correct the issue of disappearing links, though it did create difficulty working with 'to do's otherwise. Specifically:
1) new 'to do's consequently could not be assigned to local iCal calendars, and instead required I create (or recreate) my calendars on the MobileMe IMAP server;
2) calendars created on an IMAP server can not contain events and may only contain 'to do's (according to iCal), thus requiring that I maintain two different sets of calendars if choosing to store notes and 'to do's on an IMAP server such as MobileMe;
3) within the Bento 3.x application (which I use to associate 'to do's, email and notes with address book contacts) the new 'to do's appear without any associated calendar because Bento can not read calendar data from an IMAP server—associating a local calendar with the 'to do' from within Bento causes the 'to do' to be stored 'On My Mac.'
I thus have elected to store new notes and to do items 'On My Mac' which, I understand, may not be a reasonable solution for most people using multiple devices—but at least doing so avoids the above issues. It does however create a conflicting issue:
4) if you need to link a 'to do' to an email as opposed to a note, either the 'to do' is required to be stored on the IMAP server (despite the option in Preferences) and thus causes the issues above or, following the inference made within "Mail's Help: Creating to-do items," you need to setup your email account access as POP and not IMAP so that your "account" is also 'On My Mac.' This is obviously not ideal.
Another observation when storing notes and 'to do' items 'On My Mac' is that the links created seem to be lost only when you quit and restart Mail; the links remain intact as long as Mail is running.
Does anyone else have further comments or ideas?

Have Users folder on another partition

I think the technology MS uses is similar, but it's called Dynamic Partitioning. What I'm looking to do is partition a Mac. One partition will house the Users folder, and the other will house the OS, Apps, prefs, etc.. My purpose is that if my OS dies/hosed, I want to blow away the OS partition and leave my user partition in tact. I would essentially just have to reinstall the Mac OS on one partition.
Is this possible? A caveat I would see is getting the OS to know to look in another partition for the Users in the computer. Another problem would be if I created a new user account, would it be created in the User partition, or would it go into the OS partition, forcing me to move it over. Any advice would help. Thanks!

I used to do this "/Users on separate partition" thing back in the days of Panther (I can't remember how, but I think it was via some NetInfo tricks). It worked great, the Users partition was invisible to the Finder, and the /Users folder mounted the Users partition "transparently" (its icon looked like a folder." New accounts were created on the (separate) Users partition -- no migration needed.
But things changed when I upgraded to Tiger. The Users partition appeared in the Finder's sidebar (no longer invisible), and the /Users folder was portrayed as an alias (icon was folder with arrow). I couldn't figure out how to get the previous "transparency" (no volume in sidebar, folder icon not alias), but at least new accounts were (still) created in the separate partition (no migration).
So far in Leopard, I've mounted some remote volumes as local folders manually via "mount_afp" and "link" commands (in Terminal). It's a bit messy in the Finder (mount node folders disappear, link icons appear as volume aliases, etc.); however, at least I can use the "-o nobrowse" option to prevent volumes from appearing in the sidebar. I could go on to elaborate, but it probably won't answer your question.
I'd be happy to clarify my method. Just let me know if you want the details.

Dynamic Link... My Question Disappeared?

I tried to import a video to Photoshop CS6 Extended, in order to export it as an animated gif.
I posted a question about it here, it appeared in 'trending' and then disappeared ! Did a moderator move it?
My question was... when I tried to import I got a message error to say "Dynamic Link missing...'

I had about 17 tabs open on my browser. I clicked a link to open another one and when the tab opened the other tabs disappeared. What happened here?

I had 17 tabs open. When I clicked a link to open a new tab all the other tabs disappeared. I thought a new window had been opened instead, but this is not the case there is only one window open on my mozilla browser. If I try to close the window I get a message that says there are 26 tabs opened, I opened 9 more tabs. Can anybody tell me what is going on here or how I might figure this out?
Also, when I close a tab and try to reopen the tab using the right click menu, the 'undo closed tab' menu is disabled. What happened here? Can anybody tell me how to re-enable it?

I've seen some occasional glitches with windows losing the toolbar area, but not one that disturbing.
If you click and drag down on the 18th tab enough to tear it off into a new window (and possibly the same for the other newer tabs you opened), can you get the 17 tabs to re-appear in the first window? If not, I'm not sure there is a way to mend the window. If it's NOT a private browsing session, you might have to use Firefox > Exit (or File > Exit) and restore your session to get a working window. That won't work with a private window...
As a backstop, you might also right-click a tab in the window > Bookmark All Tabs before ending your session. (Because session cookies and other transient data are not preserved when you reload bookmarks, this isn't as effective as restoring a session. On the other hand, bookmark storage is less fragile than session data storage.)
Regarding Undo Close Tab, are the closed tabs listed on the History menu under Recently Closed Tabs? If so, that context menu item definitely should be enabled.

ICal events disappeared (not linked to MobileMe or iCloud)

I run iCal 4.0.4 with MacOSX 10.6.8.
I recently noted that all events before 6 May 2011 have disappeared and I don't know why.
The preferences are not set with the 'Delete events ?? days after they have passed' (the box is not ticked).
I did a test yesterday looking if the events where disappearing but that is not the case, so this morning events after the 6 May 2011 still there.
My iCal is not linked to ModileMe or iCloud in any way.
Where are the events before 6 May have gone? Can I retrieve them? Would events continue to disappear?
Any help is much appreciated.

You need to ensure that each device (including the MBP) is using iCal from iCloud (NOT a local version of iCal). Using the MBP as an example, click on the Calendars icon in the upper left corner and look for something similar to the following:
If it does not say ICLOUD at the top, there's your problem. Post back and we'll go from there.

The edit button disappears when I have the link window open, so how do I copy and paste address for email link?

When I want to create a link to a web page in an email, I click the "link" icon and a window appears asking for the address. But simultaneously, the "edit" function and all other functions disappear from the Firefox toolbar. With no edit, how can I copy and paste the address? I have tried highlighting the address and dragging it into the window, but it won't drop into the window.
I have resorted to copying the address to a document and then pasting it into the link window, but there must be a less cumbersome way.

You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden.<br />
You can make the Menu bar visible via View > Toolbars, also accessible via Firefox > Options.<br />

Links toolbar has disappeared and can't get it back

My "Links" toolbar has disappeared. I use the xmarks addon and it has not been able to fix it. This has also happenned on Internet Explorer on the same machine. I run the same version of Firefox and IE on another machine and laptop and the toolbar is there.
When I rightclick next to the menubar, the Links Toolbar is not there to enable. Seems like some registery setting has been altered if it has affected IE as well as Firefox.
Any ideas? Help would be most appreciated.

Thanks, how do I view the photos titles as a list then as opposed to having to view them as small previews all the time? I was sure that at one stage I was viewing them as lists as opposed to a small preview each. I can't work out how I was doing that.

It is possible that the screen is too high and that the scroll bar and the find bar and add-on bar fall off at the bottom.
If that works then close Firefox (File > Exit/Quit) to save that setting.

Mobile drop down menu won't disappear once I have clicked one of the links in the drop down to take me to an anchor further down the page. I want the drop down to disappear upon clicking and scroll at the same time.

Basically I have a drop down menu, which i have tried to create numerous times with different widgets available in muse or as freebies on the net.
The menu within the drop down is a manual menu and each button links to an anchor on the page, so that when clicked the page scrolls to that anchor.
My problems is that once I have clicked one of the links to go to the anchor further down the page the drop down remains. For the purpose of User Experience and fluidity across the mobile design i would like the drop down to disappear on click of the anchor link. Is this possible?
