Disappearing thread?

What happened to this thread: "Persistence and Transient fields"?
I tried replying and got a 500; later on I came back and tried to refresh the thread and it no longer exists.

I disagree with "must", which is absolute. Why not "shouldn't"? Like in the BigDecimal example, although it's generally a bad idea to duplicate data, it's not critical if it does. It shouldn't persist it, so it doesn't.I already provided an example. If I am writing an app that stores telephone numbers for a mom and pop shop then the 15 extra bytes for 150 customer records is not worth my time to even consider.I have not been arguing for storage space as primary consideration. Instead, the primary consideration should be whether the data belongs in the serialized form.

JMS Threads disappear from JNI application

My application is a combination of C++/FORTRAN/Java which runs on Solaris 5.9. Messages come into the application via a JMS topic (Sonic implementation). I use JNI (JNI_VERSION_1_2) to embed the JVM. I'm able to process incoming messages for a period of time - but then it appears that the JMS threads just 'go away'. I've tried increasing the stack/heap size of the JVM -but the threads still dissappear. Sometimes the threads go away within minutes. Other times it takes hours. I also have been unable to make a correlation between the speed of the messages going into the application and the speed with which the threads dissappear.
When I enable JNI verbose messages, I see the following messages right before the JMS threads go away:

Machelp has disappeared - still

This first thread is now locked (no replies allowed), but the problem is not solved. The web page by Dr. Smoke does NOT fix the problem.
The symptoms persist. Open Mac Help, and nothing appears. Do a search, and it just spins. Repairing Disk, Repairing Permissions have no effect. Neither do Dr. Smoke's procedures.
Spotlight also breaks every few days, but the rebuild of the index (sudo mdimport -f /) does work, at least until it breaks again a few days later.
Forum sysops should unlock the "Machelp has disappeared" thread. It ain't fixed.

See my "Troubleshooting Help Viewer" FAQ for comprehensive advice on fixing issues with Help Viewer. While for some reason this has not worked for L. Rosley, it has worked for hundreds, if not thousands, of other users.

Symbian now open sourced, n97 with symbian^2?

Symbian is now open sourced !!!
so now you can head over to www.symbian.org and download the source code for free and modify it in anyway, ofcourse you have to stick to the policies
But im just wondering, could the N97 get a symbian^2 update? cos its just more open sourced and there arn't that much changes to it then symbian^1?

Grouping Causes Text Threads to Disappear; Photo commentary with captions

Is there a way to group picutres inside my text frames without making text threads disappear? As soon as I select my text, photos, and jump text, the text threads disappear.
Also, is there a formal way of adding text commentary to a photo? I'd like to use the term "captions" but I know that captions mean a different thing in InDesign.

Entire iMessage Thread Disappeared

I am using a 4s with iOS6 and yesterday I had an entire iMessage thread disappear. I was in the middle of a text conversation with a friend with a year's worth of message thread and as I hit send on a message, I watched all of our previous messages vanish. There was no Load More Messages button at the top anymore. Our conversation continued and I didn't have any problems sending or receiving messages after. I've had no other text threads affected either, just this one. I've restarted the phone and done a soft reset several times to no avail. How can I get the previous messages back? Also, I am hesitant to backup from restore since I will lose all the new stuff on my phone since my last backup.
Please help!

If you have a recent backup in iTunes or iCloud, you can resolve the missing conversation issue on your iPhone 6 by restoring device as described in this article:

Thread disappeared?

I'm all confused. I posted a thread in the MacBookPro Forum. The next day, I got an e-mail notification that there have been new responses to my post. I clicked the link and was told I did not have permission to view my thread!!!
I clicked the link in my notification e-mail to view the Forum. I couldn't find my thread listed there.
I logged in and tried the above again. Still couldn't find it.
I clicked "My Posts" and didn't see my post there.
I tried to find it using search terms. Still no dice.
Was there an Apple Discussions server glitch? If so, who do I contact???
Was my post in violation of something and deleted? If so, I wish someone would have told me. Who can I speak to about this and find out why my posts disappeared? I can't avoid making the same mistake if no one tells me what the mistake was!

Texts in threads disappear after a week

I just upgraded a few weeks ago to Iphone 5 so forgive if this has been answered 100 times. What happened to the load earlier messages option? All of my texts in every thread dissapear after a week. I dont keep all threads but sometimes I need to. Its happening in both imessage and text. I dont see anything in settings that allows me to lengthen that time period. Thanks

Quit Mail.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. If you get a warning that the file is in use when you try to empty the Trash, log out and log back in.

About halfway down Joe had listed part of the contents of an xml file. It was all there yesterday. Today when AD came back online it was reduced to just this:

Look at Terence's reply to him. He copied Joe's list verbatim and italicized it. The whole thing appears there, like this:

Scroll down past my post and his reply to me was also altered. Where yesterday there was a complete list, today it just says:
<key>List of Keywords</key>
And then today he attempted to post a list again, and something was replaced with the "Posted from Safari" message. That message did not appear in my notification email. The email actually included some form of the list he had posted, although the characters were absent.
This is the first time I have seen things change in older posts, even when current posts were malfunctioning. It's going to be difficult to solve some problems with members if our text can't be properly displayed in the thread.
I hope this one gets fixed very quickly. Do you think the missing lists will return? Any ideas about why they are gone and how to avoid this?

For example, this is one very helpful post by Dave E to which I often refer users with the same problem. Now this post is useless. His examples of good and problematic xml file text are gone. What a terrible waste! I hope they can restore these items.
I suspect it is related to the new "convenient" way to format bold, italic, and underlined text. I know for a fact that this caused one problem, when I was trying to type a word with an underline character before and after it. I do not want the word to appear underlined! This may be the reason a user's xml file is malfunctioning, and now we can't even type the characters for anyone to see them. How can we troubleshoot computer problems if we can't duplicate the code in our posts?
ARGHHH! I'd rather use a little HTML to add styles to my text. *It's worth the extra effort to have my written text appear in the post exactly as I wrote it.*

Time machine disappeared/reappeared with Lion (I've read the other threads)

I downloaded Lion to my MacBook Pro. I am running OX 10. 7 (Lion). My Airport Utility software is updated and current (5.3.3).
What happened is this:
After downloading the new 10.7 (Lion), Time Machine was not able to run any more because it could not locate Time Capsule. I went ahead and launched Airport Utility, and Airport Utility did NOT locate Time Capsule either. It was the end of the day and I was VERY frustrated with all of the crap that Lion has thrown at me---problem after problem---so I just closed the lid and said, "I'll deal with it tomorrow".
So here it is tomorrow, and I tried to run Time Machine and it worked---HOWEVER....I had to click on "Select Disk" in order to tell Time Machine to use Time Capsule (even though I have changed nothing). Time Machine began doing the backup to Time Capsule, however, it was doing a backup from scratch as if it was the very first time I had ever done a backup.
My MacBook Pro is now completely backed up, however, it is only backed up as far as today (the backup it just did). When I "enter time machine", all of my backups back to March are gone (I purchased Time Capsule in March). Yet on the Time Machine "Preferences" window, it says this:
Oldest Backup: March 4, 2011
That date is correct----it SHOULD be backed up to March 4th, but when I "enter time machine", it only goes back as far as today. It does not show all of the backups going back to March 4th.
My Time Capsule backs up 2 other computers on my home network, and those other two computers are backing up perfectly. There is no problem with the other two computers. The other two computers do indeed have all backup going back to March 4, 2011, and the other two computers continue to backup normally with nothing out of the ordinary. I have NOT installed "Lion" on the other two computers---only on the one MacBook Pro with the issue that I am describing here.
How do I get Time Machine to show all of the previous backups going back to March 4, 2011 when I "enter time machine". It seems to know that there are indeed backsup going that far since it says so right in the Preferences window. I am exhausted with all of these problems that Lion has thrown at me--I wish I never purchased it. But now I'm stuck with it and need to get things back to normal. Help! Thank you very much.

When I open a Finder window on the MacBook Pro, I see my wireless network name (xx Wireless Network). My Time Capsule is the same as my wireless network. When I click on that name, in the main part of the window there is a single folder. The name of the single folder is "(name) Wireless Network". If I double click on that folder to open it, there are three items. The names of these three items are:
MacBookPro=001F...ee202.sparsebundle
Macintosh1
Macintosh.sparsebundle
Without me clicking on any of them, the first one shows a "Date Modified" of: "Yesterday, 9:20AM".
Is that first one the thing that I am supposed to double-click on?

Where can I view threads. I have lost an email and can't find it. It was there and disappeared??

When I opened my emails a particular email was there unopened. I clicked on it to check what it was about and clicked off to check another email. When I went back to read it properly it was not there but a caption related to the email appeared at the bottom of subsequent emails that I opened to read. I have been unable to locate the email to read it properly and can not find where it has gone.
Could you please advise how I may locate and access it.

If you didn't set up Find My iPhone on your phone before losing it, then unless your cell carrier offers a tracking service, something you again usually need to set up before the phone goes missing, there's no way to trace it. Notify the police and change any appropriate passwords.

Slight problem with threads....

Just started learning threads a few days ago.. my objective is to move an oval from left to right, then right to left, back and forth and so on.. however, it wont work, the source code i have below seems logical, but it doesnt fulfill my objective..

Can not see this having any impact on processing...Im setting speed to -10 because I want the oval to go left.... But it wont, after the oval goes from left to right, it disappears..
Try changing the following:

Tried changing that before, oval disappears after it goes to right side :\

On Screen Keyboard Glitch in Tablet Mode - On Screen Keyboard minimizes / disappears / slides down

New Yoga owner here ( just bought it yesterday) and within minutes of setting the computer up I noticed that the on screen keyboard was malfunctioning when the yoga is in tablet mode. Specifically, it pops up for about a second and then, without me touching or clicking or doing anything, it quickly slides back down. repeated attempts to bring up the keyboard end up, frustratingly, with the same result. what is perplexing to me is the on screen keyboard works fine in laptop mode (when I need it least).
Someone else already started a post on this BUT it was marked as 'solved' (which it wasn't) so I figured I'd start new thread. The solution on the previous thread was to simply 'refresh' windows to get rid of any new drivers that were downloaded since purchasing the yoga, but I did not download or update anything prior to this problem arising (as I said, the problem seemed to occur within a few minutes of turning the machine on for the first time). In any case, I tried the refresh and it did not work so clearly my problem is not that I downloaded an incompatible or faulty driver. Please Help! I love this machine and I'm trying to see past the other flaws I've noticed so far (subtle screen flickering, inconsistent touch sensitivity etc), but this issue is starting to really undermine my confidence in the product quality and, from a productivity standpoint, it is a real deal breaker to not have full tablet functionality.

I had the same problem with the disappearing virtual keyboard within hours of starting to use my new Yoga 13. I read somewhere that it was a problem with an incompatible Synaptics driver, and when I looked in the control panel, it showed that the Synaptics driver had been updated on my Yoga as of the day I bought it. I think somehow by agreeing to automatic updates of the software, the Synaptics driver is updated to an incompatible version. So what I did was I removed the Synaptics driver, using the Windows program uninstaller tool, rebooted, and then found the Synaptics driver at the Lenovo site which is specifically labelled as the Yoga 13 driver. I installed that, and the keyboard is now working fine.

Text Wrap Options have Disappeared ID CS4

All the icons in my Text Wrap window have disappeared. The tab/pallet is still there, but empty. The pop out still lists “Show Options” and “Apply to Master Page Only” are still there, but grayed out. Thanks in advance for any help!!

Itunes won't open...bounces and disappears. Here is crash log.

When I attempt to click on itunes, it appears on the dock, bounces, and disappears. This also occurs with the "help" application. Can anyone help? Here is the crash log, but b/c it is so large it is pasted here with only the first ever crash and the most recent.

Looks like your webkit framwork is broken, or is now broken in relation to iTunes. Calls and classes may have changed since version 7.1, which is what you are using. Try updating to the latest version of iTunes and see if this fixes it.
