  • Discoverer Plus Business Intelligence Print Format Problems

I am having a problem with setting the print settings to landscape. Under page setup before printing i set the Orientation to Landscape. The worksheet is printed in a landscape format, but the margins only go halfway across the page (under print preview the report fits on one page). It seems as if the program is taking the potrait orientation and just printing an image of the potrait printout in landscape. Does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks!

    Hi
Discoverer Viewer is licensed the same as Discoverer Plus. If you have 1 Plus user and 20 Viewer users you need to be licensed for 21 users.
You can either buy named users or you can buy an unlimited license. The cutover point is 25 users becauses the last time I looked I believe the per user price was $800 and the perpetual was $20,000 per CPU.
The minimum purchase for named users is 5 so are you absolutely certain that 1 license you have isn't a perpetual license or even perhaps a Discoverer Admin license?
You should discuss this with your Oracle sales rep who may well be able to get you a better price.
    Best wishes

  • Why is printing a drawing in PDF format so slow?

This is our first time using a wide-format printer (HP DesignJet 800PS). We receive construction drawings in PDF format. Printing size vary from 17" x 11" to 40" x 33". When I print a one page drawing, it takes about 20 minutes to print in normal mode (as opposed to Best or Draft). The printer is connected directly to our router via an ethernet cable. This is a small office with only 2 people connected to the router and this is the only printer connected to the network.
Is it normal that it takes this long to print a single page or is something wrong with our printing setup? When we sent multiple PDF drawings to the printshop in the past, they would be ready in minutes.
I am printing from a Windows XP computer using Adobe Reader 9.5.

I am not sure about the printer driver. The driver name is HP DesignJet 800PS 42 PS3. How would I go about checking if the installed driver is a PostScript one since I wasn't the one who did the installation?
I should also mention that I've been experimenting with it the last couple of hours and while it prints alot faster in Draft mode, without seemingly losing vital details, it does take about 5 minutes for the printer to begin the actual printing.
I'm also struggling to get the drawings to print to scale and completely. The PDF file shows the page is 49" x 35.5". When I print it, despite having tried portrait and landscape, it will not print in the right direction. I'm thinking it might have to do with the page size that I selected. I selected ARCH E which is defined as being 36" x 48" and change the rotation to match but that's not working out as it cuts out part of the drawing. There is an option to scale the printing to the dimension I enter but should I really need to go through that everytime I print a drawing of different size?

  • Discoverer not accepting Dutch date format

When the customer tries to enter dates he gets the following error:
invalid value "31-MRT-2012" for parameter 'Boekdatum tot en met
This happens when entering the value manually, but also when using the calendar.
Cst has another environment, in which the problem doesn't occur, but this has an older version.
Environment having the problem = 10.1.2.55.26
Environment not having the problem = 10.1.2.54.25
Anyone seen this? I think it is setup related, like nls settings. My colleague thinks it might be patch related.
Any help suggestions will be appreciatied.
by the way, there is no difference in pref.txt or discwb.sh on the environments!

Okay. I think I have this figured out.
If you want to change the way a cell displays the information, then you change the format of the cell, as you did.
If you want to change the way you input the information, then you change the Settings, as you did. Except you need to relaunch Numbers by either completely rebooting the iPad or make sure Numbers is restarted.
Restart Numbers: while Numbers is not the active app (go to Settings or something), press the home button twice to show the recently used apps. In the list of recently used apps, press down on the Numbers app in the list until they all wiggle, and then press the red minus button that appears (NOT on Numbers app icon itself where you launch it from! You should be doing this in a list of apps that appears at the bottom of the screen). Now press the home button again to close the recently used app list and go launch Numbers again.

  • Format command runs slow on Windows2012 when run through service

We have a windows service which performs some tasks. One of such task is format the given volume(volume name is passed from remote machine). We observed that till Windows2008 format was running properly. on Windows2012 same format starts correctly but runs
very slow. One special case if if the format is quick it runs fast (same speed as windows2008).
Another observation is when we start format as process though we set the priority high after start the priority of the process goes to normal
Any reason why format runs slow?

  • User complaining report very slow?

    Hi Gurus,
There is an interview question in EBS 11I:
“We have lot of issues in here, We facing some problem, the Discoverer users always complaining getting report very slow, sometimes it gives time-out error. What you think, how to resolve the problem?”
What are the answers they are looking from us?
Usually they are not satisfied with couple of answers, if we answered/verified each answer, the interviewer reply “No, …No…No……….. ”.
So tell me the answer what they are looking for. Please provide full possible scenarios.
    Thanks,

Here is my 2 cent comments:
    1. network issue
you can compare the discoverer reports with Oracle reports or Application module to identify this, usually this is not the case
    2. tune the backend query
you can run the discovery report backend sql query in TOAD, if the query is very slow, then the query has performance issue, you can modify the join condition to improve the performance
    3. add Parameter to Discoverer report
sometimes it is very difficult to modify the backend sql query, you can add parameter to discoverer report, when end user run the report based on the parameter, data can be quickly displayed. for example, currently report will retrieve all invoices for the company, if you add a year parameter, 2010, the report only retrieve the invoice of 2010.
    4. change timeout time
timeout issue is a discoverer report setup issue, you can change the timeout time for example from 30 minutes to 60 minutes.
    Thanks

  • Discoverer Desktop and Administrator: which is the next step?

Hello everybody, i would like to ask you some help about understanding the following issue:
I noticed that Discoverer Desktop and administrator are being treated like obsolete.
Do they have a direct successor? I mean, is there any new product that has more or less the same functionality and the same philosophy?
I'm looking at the Business intelligence suite but it seems to be a bit much wide for my scope.
    Thank you all in advance.

So, in a way you are saying that discoverer is still better than any other oracle products including discoverer plus. I mean, discoverer adm and desktop are useful for me since
they are standalone application and the understructure is quite light ( for example you don't need any application server behind like plus does but just an EUL).
And i'm agree with your parallel matching with sqlplus situation. I still prefer doing something with sqlplus since is more reliable and quick than sqldeveloper. But i cannot say that
discoverer desktop is the most reliable tool for reporting. In 6 months i used i found out many bugs and many strange behaviors that made me a bit crazy about this tool. I also tried discoverer plus but i found it extremely slow and unreliable. The level of productivity is something ugly, not just slow. So far indeed desktop seems to be the fastest and most reliable solution for a "quick" reporting development.
I would like to ask you another question: has the new hyperion platform some reporting tool like discoverer?
I mean if discoverer is the reporting tool for Relational OLAP what about the reporting for Multidimensional OLAP?
    Thanks again.
    Best regards

  • Discoverer Hangs on large export to Excel

Was wondering if anyone had seen this "hang" and had some possible workarounds?
The Discoverer process on the Application Server starts to swallow all of the CPU time and the DBAs much abort the process.
I can export the same report results to a comma-delimited file in about 6 seconds.
    Thanks for any help,
    Bob Larsen

    Hello,
We are also facing the same issue. We recently migrated our Application Server to Linux. After the migration the export from Discoverer Viewer to excel is running very slow. We are trying to export approx 30,000 records. Before the migration to Linux we were using Sun Solaris. We didn't face this problem in that platform. We are using Discoverer 4.1.48.08 and our DB is 10.1.
Any help/solution would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Badri.

  • Slow motion from 1080i60 to 23.98 PsF

I am currently editing a serie wich is shot in HDCAM 23.98 PsF. I have received tapes yesterday that were shot in 1080i60. The production shot in this format for slow motion purpose but im wondering what is the best way to achieve the best result.
I am editing on FCP studio 2.
    Thx.

almost like Cinemascope, but even thinner.
    2880x1080 = 2.66:1 aspect ratio.
"CinemaScope - With aspect ratios of 2.66:1, 2.55:1,and 2.35:1. The aspect ratio started out 2.66:1 but was reduced to 2.55:1 when the addition of sound tracks on the film. This was the most
commonly used method of filming movies because it's only major requirement is a special CinemaScope projector lens, which is available at virtually every movie theatre. CinemaScope was originally created by 20th Century Fox, but it is no longer in use. Panavision replaced CinemaScope in the early 70s. The Robe, and Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea were filmed in Cinemascope."

  • Rename users and transfer Discoverer reports

I hope someone can help. We are running Discoverer 10g with a database EUL. The reports have been operational for several years and users have edited and saved their own versions of standard reports. However it has been decided that a large number of these users (~100) should have their accounts renamed to bring them in line with other corporate usernames. User access to their reports needs to be preserved so that their new accounts look like their old (other than account name / password). These users are Viewer only users so they cannot share reports.
Does any one know of an alternative way of doing this other than the labour intensive way of: creating a new set of Discoverer users (in the new format), logging into each old account in Desktop and sharing all the reports to the equivalent new user. Then repeating this for all 100 users? Please help save my sanity.
I don't suppose that there is a simple solution of renaming Discoverer users.
But I am hoping that maybe the Desktop admin command line (which I am not very familar with) may be of some help.
Or possibly the more scary option of tinkering with the EUL tables on the EUL owning schema.
    Any advise welcome.
    Duncan

    Hi,
There is no way to rename database users created with a CREATE USER command. You would have to use a database import and export and remap the schema. However, if you have if you have two database users, USERA and USERB where USERA is a Discoverer user who as saved Discoverer reports in the database, then you can move the reports from USERA to USERB by updating the EUL.
Assuming that USERB has not used Discoverer then only USERA will have a record in the EUL5_EUL_USERS table. You can update the table change EU_USERNAME from USERA to USERB so that USERB has a user record in the EUL. USERB will then have access to USERA's workbooks. The workbooks are all held in the EUL5_DOCUMENTS table, the owner of the workbook is found using a lookup in EUL5_EUL_USERS table.

  • Discoverer - creating reports / letters that are not just a "grid" layout

    Hello,
I am just starting to work with Oracle Discoverer for possible replacement reporting tool for us.
The big issue that I have right now is that Discoverer puts all results in a spreadsheet type format. That is you cannot add labels, section breaks, ect. You really cannot format any of the results (other than standard sorting ect) to produce a nice report look or a letters ect.
We have a department that creates many reports with our current BI tool, and they never use a standard grid layout for reports, they always have more of a customized report look and feel with even images ect. added to it.
If reports and letters are not possible to do in Discover, what is the solution? Is Oracle Reports the solution that most users use to create custom report or letter?
Please feel free to let me know how you are currently creating custom reports and letters in Discoverer.
    Thx.

Discoverer allows you to create your queries/presentations using Discoverer Plus and use the formatting option to manage the presentation of that data to your Discoverer community.
Once the presentations are defined you share these same presentations with your report builders who would typically use Oracle Reports. Discoverer has an export facility to provide a link to Oracle Reports. This allows report builders to create layout specific formats for further distribution.
    Hope this helps

  • Need to email Discoverer output

We are using Discoverer 10g. The installation is on a Linux server.
We need to schedule a discoverer workbook and email the output.
I have no problem writing a script to check for the output file and mail it, but i am having difficulty scheduling discoverer to create the output file automatically.
I have been reading the documentation about using the command line option and telling discoverer to send the output to a file, but i cannot find out how to use the command line option for our installation.
I cannot find the dis52usr.exe file on my pc (which has the admin edition) or on the linux server.
How do other people handle this requirement? I have read in the forum about others needing to email output.
    thanks
    Angie

    Couple of issues here:
dis51usr.exe is the executable for Discoverer Desktop. Desktop is available only on Windows, and not on Unix/Linux.
Secondly: you can use the command line parameters in Desktop to perform some export operations. But web versions no longer have that option.
There is however a workaround available where you can obtain the output of a Discoverer worksheet in an XHTML format using the IQY export parameter. I have described in my BI Blog post.
    Thanks

  • Discoverer Road Map

I am currently evaluating oracle BI products for my company.
Having looked at BI Beans and Discoverer it seems that they use different metadata definitions (MDD). BIB use Oracle OLAP who's MDD is defined using OEM (v1) or the CWM2_ packages (v2) whereas Discoverer uses its Administrator client tool to define its MDD the End User Layer.
So, as things stand, it looks as though two MDDs are required. Is this correct? If so, what is the road map going forward? In particular, will the technologies converge? at least as far as MDDs are concerned.
Thanks in advance for your intput.

The upcoming release of Discoverer, which will be available with Oracle Application Server 10.1.2 will support query and analysis on relational data and OLAP data.
When you create the multidimensional structures in Oracle OLAP, you use the OLAP Catalog. All tools and applications use this, including Discoverer. Discoverer does not require any extra work to utilize the Oracle OLAP option.
As always, Discoverer allows you to create a business meta-layer to protect end users from the complexity of the database. This is the End User Layer, and is used for Relational data.
Discoverer Plus (to create queries, analyze, drill down, format, etc) and Discoverer Viewer (analyze, drill down, format) can both drill down, and will support drill to detail, including drill from OLAP to Relational.
The 10.1.2 version will also have powerful customization functionality through Portal, which means one worksheet can satisfy many many users. For example... three people authenticate to Portal and all see the same Discoverer portlet. One of them changes the graph to a pie, the second drills on something to another level and the third person changes the layout and add some conditional formating. Each saves their changes back to the Portal. The next time each logs in, they see their own changed version of the portlet, not the original.

  • Channel Guide Update - Questions & Concerns

In speaking with customer support this morning, it would appear that my only recourse for letting Verizon know that I don’t like the new Channel Guide is to make a post on the forums and this seems like the most applicable one.
To start, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the old channel guide and I can’t figure out what the new guide does better aside from possibly displaying 2 additional channels per page…at the cost of incorporating a GIANT active dvr UI (user interface), an awful color scheme and a PiP window in the channel guide that seems to have had its size reduced to about ¼ of the previous one.
Does anyone know if there’s a way to change the display back to the old style or at least something close to it? I only had 15 minutes to play around with it this morning before work, but the rest of the new display styles are even worse than the standard one and I was hoping there was another options section that I didn’t notice as far as the overall display goes.
For those of you who use the verizon DVR services, that display has also changed and I can only assume that it’s geared towards displaying commercials while we use the dvr functions b/c there’s no other reason for it to take up so much room on the screen at the moment.
The previous dvr display used to consist of a small horizontal bar across the bottom of the screen that displayed the basic channel info (channel #, name of the show, run time etc etc), showed you the speed at which it was rewinding or fast forwarding and the point in the show that you were currently watching. With the update, the DVR window is MASSIVE and it has to be taking up close to 1/3 of the screen when you hit the FF, RW or play button. However, even with the new giant dvr display, there’s nothing being utilized in the actual display and I have a feeling it’s going to be used for corporate commercials or simply advertising verizon on-demand programming.
The new channel guide is clearly slower than the old one too and as I said earlier, I just didn’t see anything that warranted the huge makeover and I have trouble understanding how this new version of the channel guide could’ve possibly been beta tested by anyone and wound up in this state.
I love the verizon internet speed and I’ve come to find that their customer service is excellent, but this change was possibly enough to make me drop the full package I currently utilize and simply maintain the internet going forward for the sake of accessing websites like hulu & netflix for my television needs.

Agreed.  The new guide format is slow, the text is difficult to read, but worst of all, you can only see a few channels at
a time when scrolling.  With hundreds of channels, you need to be able to glance at many channel listings quickly
on one screen, before quickly scrolling to the next screen.
I agree this is so bad that I will have to look at cable or satellite options if the old channel guide is not restored, at least
as an option.  It was great!   Why fix what isn't broken?  Or more to the point, why break something that was an asset
    to the service?
If FIOS tries to hold me to whatever the term of my contract period and penalizes me for dropping the service, my
position would be that the service provided by FIOS with the new channel guide is materially and adversely different from
what I signed up for, and this unilateral change on the part of Verizon voids my obligations under the deal.  But all
I really want is the option to return to the prior channel guide format.

  • How to det if HP printer is communicating to Airport via USB or wireless

Been using my new iMac and Airport base station for only 1 week. I have the Airport base station connected via a USB cable to an HP all in one 3300 series printer/scanner/fax. The printer has built in wireless capability. However, it is on the old 802.11g/b technology. Representative at the Apple store instructed me to hook up the printer to the base station via the USB port, instead of using a wireless network. Apple store representative mentioned that having one product on the wireless network which communicates using the old g/b format, will slow down all of the other communications on the network (internet, iMac, etc). So how do I determine if the HP printer is communicating with the network via the USB or using the built in wireless protocol??
One more issue - I am trying to get my old Windows XP based HP PC to communicate with the same printer. I installed a NetGear transmitter (with the 802n technology) on the old PC. The old PC communicates fine to surf the internet. However, printing does not work? The HP printer software is still on the old PC - did not remove it while moving the computer to a different room.
Help with either issue would be much appreciated.

Did you connect the printer to the wireless network? It won't generally do this automatically.
Unplug the USB if you can still print then the printer is connected wirelessly.
