Discoverer - IDL:DCCORBAException:1.0

Hi,
I am using discoverer 10g version (10.1.2.45.20), When we are running queries using plus / desktop we are getting IDL:DCCORBAException:1.0 exception.
We have page items on the report, initially data loads properly if once i select any of the page item i am getting this error
Please help me
Thanks
Mangamuri

Hi Mangamuri
Could be that Discoverer does not know which items to group within a Page Item. I've seen situation when All is selected that ths data is returned but when a single Page Item is selected an error is thrown. This is because the same item would logically be associated with 2 different page items, not very common I know but this was my cause.
To fix it I had to insert additional logic into my conditions to only pull items that would group into single page items. This is very hard to explain or reproduce but just a hint as to what the cause was in my situation.
Best wishes
Michael

  • Discoverer Plus returning no data and IDL:DCCORBAException:1.0. Desktop OK

    We are attempting to create a worksheet in Discoverer Plus. It is based on two tables joined with an outer join. We select 1 field from the master table, then 6 fields from the detail table. The query runs OK (we have no conditions, sorts, calculations nor totals).
    When we attempt to add a 7th field from the detail table and run the query, Discoverer Plus displays the error message 'IDL:DCCORBAException:1.0' and the results region says 'No Data'.
    If we build exactly the same worksheet with Discoverer Desktop against the same EUL, the query runs OK and returns the expected data. I've experienced this problem before and solved it by deleting the detail folder and re-creating it. (We are using custom folders). After this the query ran OK in Discoverer Plus and returned the expected data.
    Has anyone else come across this? Do you know what causes it and/or any better method of solving it?

    I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the default position (and default aggregate) for the EUL folder item? I can see that some of the folders have number type items with default position 'Data Point' and others have these with default position of 'Top or Side'. I'm totally stabbing around in the dark here; looking at EUL folders which exhibit the problem and those which don't.
    I've tried changing one field to 'Data Point' and it hasn't helped. Will try changing the join items now I think.
    If anyone has any comments, would be v. grateful as I'm looking at dropping folders which have quite a bit of code around them and trying to re-create them exactly, which is a risky and horrible solution.

  • Unable to connect Discoverer Server:IDL:DCCORBAException:1.0

    Hi all,
    I installed Discoverer 10 server on a machine called gnvmig.ote.gr and when I connect (from Discoverer Plus) to an Application EUL on the same machine I don't have any kind of problem. If I try to be connected to an Application EUL on another machine I have the following error:
    Unable to connect Discoverer Server:IDL:DCCORBAException:1.0
    I added inside the tnsnames.ora the connection string (to the other machine) and I enabled the trace....but inside the apps_trace.txt I don't any errors.
    The strange thing is that the connection on the remote machine worked perfectly since yesterday....and now....nothing !!

    If you always get this error, then I don't know the answer. However, I see this message if I try to open a second Discoverer Plus session from the same browser session (either the same connection dialog, or on another tab of the same session). You can have multiple sessions of Discoverer , but they must be opened from completely separate browser sessions, or different browsers.

  • Discoverer Plus - IDL:DCCORBAException:1.0

    I have encountered error: IDL:DCCORBAException:1.0 when i'm trying to create a report in Discover Plus that has 3 parameter fields. If i put values in the 3 fields, the report will generate, however, if i put a value into only 1 of those fields and leave the other 2 parameters blank, this error occurs.
    Please help me.

    Hi
    Presumably the parameters are mandatory parameter? In this case you need to supply a value to all three. You cannot leave a mandatory parameter blank.
    By the way, which version of Discoverer Plus are you using? You can use About | Help to see which version you have.

  • IDL:DCCORBAException:1.0 when drilling

    Hi guys,
    I've got a data warehouse system using discoverer plus as a front end. At the moment it is in UAT. The tester has pointed out that when he drills down on certain reports, the gets the following error: IDL:DCCORBAException:1.0
    However, when he restarts discoverer plus, the error goes away periodically.
    What could be causing this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris.

    Hi Chris
    You got a trainer and they are training on the video store tutorial? Wish I could get away with that! :-)
    If the trainer is reporting that there were some java cache problems, this certainly isn't helping the overall situation. Did you happen to find out what he/she meant by a java cache problem?
    Last year, I published some information about adjusting some of the Sun Java's settings. Here's a link: http://learndiscoverer.blogspot.com/2006/06/lost-or-grayed-out-icons-in-discoverer.html
    I also now recommend that you have an absolute minimum of 1Gb of memory on the client PC. The optimum is 2Gb and I would definitely recommend that if you can do it.
    I'm not 100% certain that altering the cache setting will definitely fix your issue but it is definitely a good place to start.
    If you're willing to try altering the settings and then back to me, we can see where we are at that point.

  • IDL:DCCORBAException:1.0

    In Discoverer 10g (10.1.2) Discoverer Plus users are getting IDL:DCCORBAException:1.0 when they try query. An extensive search for this error has turned up nothing. Can anyone tell me what this error means and how to fix it?
    Thanks.

    Hi ,
    my users are getting this error when they try to share a workbook . initially when they run a query they will get "an error occured when trying to run the query" . my verison is 9.0.4.45.3 .we are in the midway of upgrading to middleware 11g . but the present production is givng the problem .
    this error started after a outage .where a datafile got corrupted and the discoverer scheduelr went offline . we have droped all the indexes(which are on EUL5 tables) and rebuilt again for the scheduler to work properly. from that day we are getting this error and it is for few users only . if i am able to run a report successfuly but other user cannot run the same report .
    Do i need to rrefresh the EUL as we have made some changes to the database objects where the EUL is located .
    this is a business critical issue . please let me know
    Thanks

  • Discoverer server connection error

    Hi,
    I am having a specific problem with web version of discoverer plus. Whenever I connect to discoverer plus and start working on it for few minutes I am losing connection to discoverer server. The exact error message what I am getting is "CONNECTION TO DISCOVERER SERVER IS LOST. PLEASE EXIT AND RESTART YOUR APPLICATION AND IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTS CONTACT YOUR ORACLE APPLICATION SERVER ADMINISTRATOR". When I look at the java console of the applet that is downloaded on my machine I see 'DiscoNetworkException' being thrown. Has anybody got any idea about why this is happening? if so, what do I need to do to prevent it from happening.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mythili.

    We have seen similar behavior on the product. We are running Discoverer Plus 10.1.2.48.18. The problem is reproducable if we have both a CASE statement and a Sort in a worksheet, then try to Save or view the SQL. I have seen the error that begins with "Error: DiscoNetworkException IDL:DCCORBAException:1.0", however, this error is occuring independent of the "dropped connection" error. We have seen it occur before the actual "dropped connection" error occurs. Also, if we only examine the SQL and don't save the worksheet, the error is displayed, but the connection remains intact (we can continue to work with the worksheet).
    Don't know if this is helpful, but its what we're seeing.

  • Oracle 10g AS  pacth for Oracle Apps 11i

    Hi everyone,
    I have installed Oracle 10g AS (10.1.2.0.2) for Oracle Business Intelligence on Sun Solaris 10 (64 bit) and integrated it with Oracle Apps 11i (11.5.10.2).
    Everything seems fine but i am facing problems like
    1) Toolbars not appearing correctly sometimes like it is disabled and enables by itself.
    2)sometimes clients come accross "Connection with Server lost..." error while taking export (very few).
    3) Its giving the error (mentioned at the end) only on one client machine while taking export to Excel.
    I have tried installing Oracle 10g AS patch set 2 10.1.2.2 for Solaris but the problem persisits. Is patch set 2 compatible or certified with Oracle Apps 11i? if not then is there any other work around or do i have to wait for some new patch.
    Thanx for your inputs.

    Hi
    The last I heard is that 10.1.2.2 is not yet certified for use against E-Business Suite unless your operating system is Linux. Please take a look at this posting on Steven Chan's blog: http://blogs.oracle.com/schan/2007/04/23
    The issues you are encountering, particularly the one with the toolbars disappearing, were fixed in patch 5345528 as described on my blog here: http://learndiscoverer.blogspot.com/2006/08/more-to-toolbar-icons-graying-out.html
    I would advise you to go for this patch first until Oracle certify 10.1.2.2. for Sun.
    Best wishes
    Michael

  • Discoverer reports taking a long time!!!

    Hi all,
    One of our clients is complaining that the discoverer reports are taking a long time to run for the last few days, the report used to take 30 minutes before but now is running for hours!!
    I have checked the SGA and I have killed the idle sessions but still there was no improvement in the performance.
    The version of BI discoverer is 10 and database also is 10g and the platform is win server 2003.
    I have checked the forums and they talk about explain plan and tkprof and other commands, but my problem is that i am unable to find the query that discoverer is running i mean once the report is clicked the query runs and gives the estimate time it would take. can some one tell me where this query is stored so that i can check this query,
    Also there were no changes made in the query or to the database.
    The temp space fills up 100%, i increased the size of temp space but still it goes to 100% also i noticed that the CPU utilisation goes to 100%
    i also increased the SGA but still no go.
    can someone kindly help me as to what could be causing this problem
    also kindly guide me to some good documents for tuning the discoverer.
    thanks in advance,
    regards,

    Hi,
    The fact that the report used to work fast and now not can be related to many things but my guess is that the database statistics were changed and so the explain plan has changed.
    This can be done due to change in the volume of the data that crossed a level were oracle optimizer change the behavior but it can be other things as well.
    Anyway it is not relevant since it will be easier to tune the SQL than to find what have changed.
    In order to find whether the problem is with the discoverer or in the SQL extract the SQL as described above and run it in SQL tool (SQL Plus, TOAD, SQL Developer and so on).
    The best way to get to the problem is run a trace on your session and then use the TKPROF command to translate it to a text file you can analyze - you can assist your DBA team they should have no problem doing that.
    By doing that you will get the problematic statements/ functions/ procedures that the report uses.
    From there you can start working on improving the performance.
    Performance is expertise for itself so i'm sorry i don't know to tell you where to start from, I guess the start will be from understanding the meaning of the explain plan.
    Hope I helped a little although I wish Ii had a magic answer for you
    BTW, until you resolve that problem you can use the discoverer scheduler to run the reports in the background and so the users will get the data.

  • Oracle 10g Discoverer Reports & export to xls fails for large reports

    Hi ,
    We have following configurations:
    1: RHEL 5.4
    2: Discoverer :Version 10.1.2.48.18
    3: Oracle10g Apps Version : Version 10.1.2.0.2
    Issue:
    Most of small reports works fine ....but when large discoverer reports are executed the page
    keeps on refreshing for 15-20 hours but no output ....same for export to xls ......
    But same reports works fine in oracle9i for same data voulme....
    Observations:
    When on linux with top command the processes are monitored its observed that discoverer process
    dis51ws dies for large reports after 1-2 minutes ...& the page keeps on refreshing but no output....
    for 1-2 minutes it consumes 50-80% cpu utilisation then process disappears & cpu 80% idle ...
    It seems that as 10g Apps is installed on RHEL 5.4 ...non certfified OS causing an issue...
    Can any one adds more inputs in this regards......
    we have checked logs : below are log details :

    Regards,

    Hi ,
    as per Note: 466697.1 ....its an memory error....& need to increase MaxVirtualDiskMem and MaxVirtualHeapMem
    But we already have slowly increased MaxVirtualDiskMem and MaxVirtualHeapMem to below very high values ...but the issue remains same.......
    as per note we are getting Logkeys: exceptions discoiv.servlet_exceptions error but
    after that we are not getting below error ............
    Unexpected error in state machine: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
    Hence I presume that its different issue rather than memmory....
    Below are pref.txt values..........
    CacheFlushPercentage          = 25          # Percent of cache flushed if the cache is full. valid values 0 - 100%.
    MaxVirtualDiskMem          = 9294967296     # Maximum amount of disk memory allowed for the data cache. Should be greater than or equal to MaxVirtualHeapMem
    MaxVirtualHeapMem          = 4294967296     # Maximum amount of heap memory allowed for the data cache.
    QueryBehavior = 0          # Action to take after opening a workbook (0 = Run Query Automatically, 1 = Don't Run Query, 2 = Ask for Confirmation)
    Also we have raised an SR & as per SR .............all below settings are tried as per SR except for applying a recent patch....
    ====================================================================
    Discoverer performance is largely determined by how well the database
    has been designed and tuned for queries.
    A well-designed database will perform significantly better than a poorly
    designed database.
    Workbook design can also affect query performance.
    1. Apply latest Discoverer patch as documented in <<Note:237607.1>>
    'ALERT: Required and Recommended Patch Levels For All Discoverer Version'.
    2. Increase the maximum JVM heap memory:
    In general, the default values for the minimum heap (-Xms) memory and
    maximum heap (-Xmx) memory are sufficient.
    However, if your organization consistently runs large Discoverer queries
    then you may benefit from increasing the maximum heap memory from the
    default values.
    This is recomended if your users are typically running large queries via
    Discoverer Viewer.
    Increasing the JVM memory can help to avoid "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError"
    in Discoverer Viewer:
    Please see <<Note 563960.1>>, Best Practice: Configuring The
    OC4J_BI_Forms JVM For
    Discoverer Viewer/Portlet 10g Performance And Stability for specific
    details.
    3. Disable Query Prediction:
    Query Prediction provides an estimate of the time required to retrieve
    the information in a query.
    The Query Prediction appears before the query and consumes time.
    Edit the <oracle_home>/discoverer/util/pref.txt on the middle-tier
    server and set:
    QPPEnable=0
    Also set:
    QPPObtainCostMethod = 0
    4. Uncheck the 'Enable fantrap detection' checkbox.
    When the box is checked, every query generated by Discoverer is
    interrogated. Discoverer will detect a fan trap and rewrite the query to
    ensure that the aggregation is done at the correct level.
    Please refer to <<Note:210553.1>>, Oracle BI Discoverer: Fan Trap
    Resolution - Correct Results
    Everytime for more information on fantraps.
    To disable, in Plus go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Fan Trap
    settings.
    In Viewer go to Preferences and uncheck the box.
    5. Disable Materialized Views/Summaries
    In pref.txt add parameter:
    MaterializedViewRedirectionBehavior = 0
    Value equal to 0 ensures that Materialized View (MV) Redirection is
    always performed when MVs are available.
    6. Improve query performance by optimizing the SQL.
    In pref.txt modify/add following parameters:
    SQLFlatten = 0
    SQLItemTrim = 0
    SQLJoinTrim = 0
    UseOptimizerHints = 0
    If value of SQLFlatten is 1 then Discoverer will merge inline views in
    the query SQL where ever possible.
    In case of SQLItemTrim, Discoverer will remove unused folder items from
    the query SQL where possible and for SQLJoinTrim Discoverer will remove
    unnecessary joins from the query where possible.
    UseOptimizerHints will add Optimizer hints to SQL if set >
    0.Unnecessarily making Discoverer perform these checks consumes
    resources and rather than increasing the performance may reduce the same. So unless you feel these checks have to be performed depending on
    requirements, assign zero to these parameters.
    7. When Discoverer builds a query, Discoverer makes a database security
    check to confirm that the user has access to the tables referenced in
    the folders. Avoiding this check can save time.
    So in pref.txt underDatabase section add:
    ObjectsAlwaysAccessible = 1
    8. Whenever you are creating conditions, ensure that you match the Case.
    This in turn can reduce the time Discoverer spends on changing the Case
    and matching.
    For example:
    option Upper(Department) in (Upper('VIDEO SALES')
    9. Ensure that summaries are refreshed periodically in Discoverer
    Administrator.
    10. Increase the amount of memory available for the Discoverer data cache. Please refer to <<Note 245752.1>>, Explaining Oracle BI Discoverer
    Session Memory Management
    And Server Cache Settings.
    11. Performance may be enhanced by enabling OracleAS Web Cache.

  • DISCOVERER Plus connectivity issus

    Encountering a connection issue when using DISCOVERER Plus. When attempting to refresh (using the refresh icon) after five-ten minutes of being idle, the message "Failed to connect to database" is received. Users then have to reconnect to DISCOVERER via the connection screen. I don't have any knowledge about disvocer. The platform is windows.
    Your help will be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,
    The first think you will want to check is the timout preference for Discoverer Plus.
    It is located in <oracle_home/discoverer/util/pref.txt
    Once you change it, you will need to run applpreferences.sh or applypfreferences.bat (for Windows) and the next sessions will pick up the change.
    Discoverer Viewer timeout is in the web.xml file.. see the Discoverer Configuration Guide on OTN
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/discoverer.html
    Hope that helps.

  • Discoverer patch

    Hi
    We had a problem with the discoverer viewer, where the sessions wouldnt stop and reach the max level, so we used a patch 6155500 to kill the idle sessions, it was working fine for a couple of days but not its not working ...........................any advice regarding what might be the problem with the patch?
    Thanks

    Hello,
    General advice, as we should have a look at logs to understand why it is happening, would be to monitor system resources and OracleAS Components. In example, it maybe that OC4J crashes causing discoverer session to be loosed and so not within OracleAS control.
    You may want to check the following logs :
    $OH/opmn/logs/ipm.log
    $OH/opmn/logs/opmn.log
    $OH/j2ee/OC4J_BI_Forms/application-deployments/discoverer/OC4J_BI_Forms_default_island_1
    Hope this helps,

  • How to timeout a Discoverer session in Discoverer 4.1.48 Client-Server

    Hi Comunnity,
    My question is simple: Is it possible to establish a tiimeout to a Discoverer session, but not for the WEB sessions, but those sessions runned from the Client-Server Tier (using the Discoverer Desktop Edition).
    We are using the 4.1.48 Discoverer Version, and we want to limit the time that the users are inactive with its sessions.
    Thanks in advance for your answers.

    Hi Gianluca,
    Sorry for answer this post so late, but now we have taking again this matter.
    We have just created a profile:
    create profile discoverer limit
    sessions_per_user default
    cpu_per_session default
    cpu_per_call default
    connect_time default
    idle_time 5 (we put 5 minutes only to test)
    logical_reads_per_session default
    logical_reads_per_call default
    compose_limit default
    private_sga default;
    commit;
    As we do not know which values we have to put for all other parameters we left the DEFAULT value for this parameters. We are interested only in the IDEL_TIME parameter, in order to limit the idle tiime.
    Then we assign this profile to an user (GENERAL), which is a databaser user and a Discoverer User, wit the following sentence:
    alter user GENERAL profile discoverer;
    commit;
    In order that these changes will work, we alter the system with the following command or sentence:
    alter system set resource_limit = true;
    commit;
    We have bounced the database, but it seems that the profile does not work, cause the user is still connected to the database, cause it can make new queries in discoverer.
    Had we made anything wrong?
    Thanks in advance.
    Luis Enrique.

  • Discoverer Plus - Kills the browser with error msg for session timeout

    If left idle for more than few minutes, Discoverer Plus instance will kill itself with an error.
    i guess it kills the IE browser instance with an error message when Session Timeout occurs. The problem is I have to re-login in a new IE browser.
    Is this normal behavious, or a bug. Any workaround to stop this happen. Please can someone help me, we are going on for a production rollover very soon.
    I appreciate your help.
    Regards, B

    B,
    The pref.txt file has session time out parameter that can be controlled. You can increase the time out value.
