Discoverer Viewer presentation

In ui_config.xml you can set up one or more templates which can be chosen when selecting "Presentaion options".
How can I activate a template as a default template used when users are accessing worksheets?
Is it possible to activate a template by submitting an url parameter?

  • Oracle Apps EUL with Custom Discoverer Views

    Disco Environment:
    OracleBI Discoverer 10g (10.1.2.2)
Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer Plus 10g (10.1.2.54.25)
    Discoverer Model - 10.1.2.54.25
    Discoverer Server - 10.1.2.54.25

    All,
Up until now, we have been placing our Discoverer custom views in our apps schema. From a "keeping track" perspective and from a "keep Disco views separate from apps" perspective, we are inclined to create a custom schema to place all of our custom Discoverer views. I have heard that Noetix does this as well.
To accomplish this, we were planning to provide a grant select to all tables, views and synonyms (with a limited execute rights to some packages).
The easiest thing to do is to keep on doing what we are presently doing. We have a naming schema in place that enables us to quickly identify all custom Disco views.
Can I have people whom have implemented a custom schema for their Disco views in apps let me know how this has worked for them? This type of Disco environment appears to require a lot of communication between the Disco staff and the DBA to make sure these grants are set-up correctly.
    Thanks,
    Patrick

    Hi,
All the eBS sites I have worked on have created the majority of their custom views in the APPS schema using a naming convention to separate them from the seeded views. The reason being is that the SQL in the view (including all the function calls) is run with the privileges of the owner of the view. If the view is defined in another schema, then this schema must have access to the APPS database objects which can be a lot of work to set up because it is very hard to identify the dependencies and unnecessarily opens up the security on the APPS schema.
Where the data is held in custom tables and there are views on these custom tables, then both the tables and the views are held in a separate schema.

  • Discoverer Viewer Configuration File

    Hi,
There is a scenario where in, most of the users use Discoverer viewer reports from the same login ID, They do changes and save the Workbook. Now when a new user logins he see the changes saved by the previous user . Now we dont want to allow the users to save changes and want to change the config setting so that no user can do any changes.
As per my unerstanding, one way of doing so it by login to application server and Uncheck the preference check box and save the changes. Doing this the preference tab will not be visible to any user.
Want to know is there any other way by which preference tab can be Disabled but still can be seen on the right corner of the viewer page?
Or is there a way we can change the configuration setting in any of the config file of discoverer viewer so that users are not able to change the setting...
    Discoverer version is 10g.
    Thank You.
    Regards,
    Anuj Malhotra

    Hi Michael,
The Scenario is like, most of the users use Viewer only to access reports.
The main aim right now is to some how not allow users to change the settings whcih they change using the preference tab or presentation options.
I checked it the config document of Discoverer viewer and found:
The Steps to remove Preference tab or presentation options in Oracle Application Server Discoverer Configuration Guide
    10g (9.0.4) are as follows:
    1. Open the ui_config.xml file in a text editor or XML editor
    2. Locate the <appearance> tag in the file
change the value of the display_preferences_link tag to false
change the value of the display_presentation_options_link tag to false
    3. Save the ui_config.file
But I didnt not find the steps to remove the preference tab or presentation option using Configuration.xml file in Oracle® Business Intelligence Discoverer Configuration Guide 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.1 ).
It was mentioned that to remove the presentation option in 10g version we need to login to Oracle Application server and uncheck the preference tab Option.
Want to know is that the only way of removing presentation options or preference tab from 10g Version or something can be done from configuration.xml file also.

  • Hide a Column in Discoverer Viewer 10.2.1

    Hello Forum,
I'm doing a little "Show & Tell" this Friday for our end users on Discoverer Viewer.... I'm not the report writer or the end user, so I'm a great guinea pig for how easy is this tool to use and intuitive is it... here is my problem - I want to customize the format, layout whatever you want to call it of a workbook, a simple task like hiding a column seems to be missing? What's the trick, how does an end user who wants to customize their view of the workbook do a simple thing like hide a column?
    thanks
    monalisa

    Hi Mona
You need to master all of the intricacies of Viewer if you are going to demonstrate it effectively. Viewer is a very, very cool tool with lots of neat features which, in the right hands, is actually much more powerful than it at first appears. I find that the best way to demo it is to focus in on the positives and minimize or not even mention the negatives. Users can usually be blown away by having all of the positives explained before mentioning any of the negatives.
Now that I have passed on some tips for presenting Viewer, something that I do all of the time, let's address your particular question. :-)
There are two ways that I know of, and there could be more, to hide a particular column in Viewer.
The simplest is to move the column to the far right of the report and then tell Viewer to only display n-1 columns, where n = the number of columns in the report. To do this, follow this workflow:
    1. Click the Layout link
    2. Use the Move option to move the column(s) you don't want to display to the right of the last item that you do want to display
    3. Count the number of columns that you want to display
    4. Click the Rows and Columns link
    5. In Columns type in the number of columns that you want to display
    6. Click the Go button
This second method works for tables and crosstabs that don't use Page Items. Use this workflow:
    1. Click the Layout link
    2. Click the More link
    3. For the column(s) you want to hide, click the Up arrow alongside each one and move it to Page Items
    4. Uncheck the box called Show Page Items
    5. Click the Go button
    I hope this helps

  • Print report parameter and column headers PDF format from Discoverer Viewer

    Hi,
From Discoverer Viewer 4i I'm presently using the printer friendly version to print my workbooks. I would like to know if their is a way to include report parameters and print column headers on every page.
I would appreciate any pointers or workarounds to this issue at the earliest.
    Thanks

    Hi T
I don't think this is possible with 4i.

  • Discoverer viewer date picker

    Hi All,
Is it possible to have a date picker for date fields in discoverer viewer?
    Regards,
    Nav

    Hi
There is no code to use here, this is all done by the end user inside the Plus worksheet.
First of all, your Discoverer administrator needs to create two or more lists of values on related items within the folder, for example on the Year, Quarter, Month and Date.
In the end user tool, the user creates a set of conditions on these items presenting the highest level first, for example the year, followed by the next item in the chain, for example the Quarter and so on.
In the sub conditions, for example on the Quarter, the user checks the box which asks whether the values for this item should be based on a previous selection. You then tell Discoverer to use the previous selection thus the list of values for Quarter will be restricted to the year or years selected in the first condition. You simply repeat this exercise for Month and then Day.
Do you have a copy of my Oracle Discoverer 10g Handbook? If so, you will find a full description of cascading parameters in there.
If you or your users don't know how to do this you may want to consider taking some training as this is standard functionality within the Plus tool and you would expect report writers to know how to do this.
    Best wishes

  • Configuring Discovere Viewer

I need to open a custom report instead of using the "Analyze..." link of the report I put in my portal page.
I create a hidden link like this:
    http://<server>:7780/discoverer/viewer?userName=<name>&password=<pwd>&databaseIdentifier=<connStr>&connectionLocale=browser_selected&connectionType=PRIV&autoconnect=yes&connectionAccessType=OLAP&wbk=<workbookname>&wsk=<worksheetname>
    and it works.
There is a little and significant difference between this version and the "Analyze..." version: there are many links I don't want to see, like "Exit", "Help", the Worksheet list and so on.
Is there a possibility to configure the visualization of this page???
    Thanks

    Hi there,
It’s possible to remove the items you want and change the way Viewer looks.
There is two ways to go about this:
Firstly you could apply a change directly to the presentation file on the Server, which will change the look of Viewer no matter what workbook is opened, or
Secondly you could create a custom Presentation Template and use it in the URL to point it to your custom template.
All these things are done differently depending on what version of Discoverer you’re on. Have a look here for more documentation and Configuration Guides for Discoverer: http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/discoverer.html or
    http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/html/B10273_01/customiz.htm#1014029
This should give you a good place to start.

  • Discoverer Viewer Graph Size problem

    Hi all,
We are facing a problem with the graph size in discoverer viewer. The size which is seen in Plus is different in viewer (which is very very small) and is not presentable. Is there any special setting required in Application Server or any parameters that are required to be setup?
    Thanks...
    Regards
    Ozy
Edited by: Ozy on Oct 1, 2009 3:40 AM

Hi Ozy, I haven't tried this fix but try looking in the pref.txt file which is in the in the Oracle home for your middle tier. You may find it at this location:
    $ORACLE_HOME\Discoverer\util,
According to Michael Armstrong-Smith of ascbi.com:
+"There is a known Java bug (or unwanted feature depending on how you look at it) that causes a worksheet's results to display in a different font in Plus and Viewer and the chart size may have a similar fix...+
+After you save the pref.txt you will need to apply your preferences by executing applyprefences.sh (if running on Linux or Unix) or running applyprefences.bat (if running on Windows). The applyprefences file can be found in the same folder where pref.txt resides. A sort of one stop shopping...+
+Having changed and applied your preferences you need to stop and restart the Discoverer middle tier. "+
The full explanation of this possible fix can be found on Michael's blog here: learndiscoverer.blogspot.com

  • Customizing Discoverer Viewer

According to chapter 10 in "Oracle Discoverer Configuration Guide (version 9.0.2)" you can customize Discoverer Viewer in mainly to ways:
    1. By editing blaf.css.
    2. By editing ui_config.xml
In ui_config.xml you can create presentation templates which can be selected in Viewer via "Presentation Options".
How can we make one of the templates the default template for our Discoverer sessions? We want the users to meet a standardized user interface when opening workbooks from a Portal list of workbooks portlet.

I'm having a similar problem, only the default logo never
changes to the one I've specified. I'm looking for a way to turn
OFF the default completely without having to maually changing
the disco_logo.gif file or any of the other gif's. I'm disgusted
by the "customizable" nature of this product.

  • Discoverer viewer or discoverer plus?

I built an EUL with discoverer desktop and administrator and now I want to post some result in a web page,is discoverer viewer or
discoverer plus more helpful in this case?
    thank you

    Hi
Discoverer Plus is a report writer tool, whereas Discoverer Viewer is just what it says - it allows a user to run and view results.
Discoverer Plus is very much akin to Discoverer Desktop except it is much more powerful with a lot more features. A few years ago I presented a paper at ODTUG explaining all of the features of Discoverer 10g. That paper won best paper in the show and is available as a download free from my website here: http://ascbi.com/downloads/downloads.htm
If you scroll down to the section called Armstrong-Smith Presentations, the one you want is the 7th one down called DRAKEFIRSTLOOK. If are unsure as to the benefits of using Discoverer Plus versue Viewer that paper will help.
As an FYI, Discoverer Plus requires a local of Java and runs as a thick applet, whereas Viewer is pure HTML thin client and does not need Java. Plus is intended for report writers and power users, whereas Viewer is intended for users who only need to run an existing report.
May I also point you in the direction of my Oracle Discoverer 10g Handbook? You can find that on amazon and has more than 1000 pages of information.
    I hope this helps

Has anyone who reads this, ever done this?
Just wondering as it sure looks like Disco is becoming pretty slick if this has been done. With the new JAVA interfacing stuff, it does seem to open a new world, but where I'm stuck on understanding this, is that how on earth a Java program can access a Disco worksheet (not just a workbook, but take out the worksheet in a workbook and present it).
So, with my ignorance, I would have thought this is not possible, but with the moves Disco, etc. is taking, I would just like to know if I'm in the 'dark ages' and this has been done successfully by someone.
... keeping up with the new stuff is a full time job! ...

  • I cant see the graph in discoverer viewer whith was created in the desktop

    Hi,
         I need your help!! I have a problem to see a graph in Discoverer viewer. I will detail you the steps that I follow;
It was a difficult calculate report to results by Discoverer so, I create a view in the data base which show 3 field, Periodo(number) which is a union whit other field from other folder, State(varchar), Requirement(number).
From the discoverer desktop y have a crosstab worksheets and a graph, there I can see it without problem, but in the Discoverer viewer I can see the graph.
I tried to set the worksheets options in “show options” to show me the graphs too, but this options didn’t appeared there. Somebody know what I should have to do to see it?
    On the other hand I changed the “show null values show” option since null to empty, and when I wanted to save the change this error appeared;
“Oracle BI Discoverer don’t had to found the necessary values to show the events…”
    Thanks for your help!
    Regards
    Dora

    Hi Dora,
The graphs that you create using Discoverer Plus will show nicely in Viewer. Everything you develop in Pluys works in Viewer. They are companion products.
You must realize that Discoverer Plus/Viewer and Desktop are two seperate product sets and they use different techniques for graph creation. There are other differencies between the two that suggests that you need to develop all reports using Discoverer Plus in stead of Discoverer Desktop.
I have experienced workbook created in Plus being destroyed when opened and saved using Desktop. So for a long time I have simply forgotten all about Desktop. If your company is relying on both Viewer and Dersktop I suggest that the time has come to change strategy and technique.
If you need sparring please mail to [email protected]
    Good Luck!
    Cheers
