DISM /capture-image: Not enough space on disk

Slow and sure WE8S drives me crazy. I just tried to capture as WE8S image using DISM which aborted somewhere at 20%. The logfile tells "There is not enogh space on disk", a few log messages later I see that this belongs to X:\ (the WinPE "RAM
disk"). While monitoring the process in a additional CMD windows I could see that X:\WINDOWS\TEMP gets filled up with WINxxx.TMP files (initially there are about 530MB free on X:).
I can specify a /ScrathDir, but I'm very interested in knowing about why CAPTURING an image requires so much space. Remember another thread from me where I have to move to an alternative system with enough RAM to setup the WE8S image. Now I have to move
to another system again that has additional drive for that damned WINxxx.tmp files?
I'm luckily in a situation where I have alternative HW to do that, but this might be a problem (for example, if the media to be captured if soldered to PCB). Are there other ways?

No, that is not my problem. That was just an assumption, this is a possible situation (this may happen to you and me in some future project..).
USB flash disk is an option, but UFDs usually have low performance. My solution was to put the CFast card into a system which has (fast) SSD, and instructed DISM to use the SSD as ScratchDir.
All after all I got everything working as expected, but I had to switch the machine for several times. This is very unusual - espicially the work-around required to make a "simple" backup.

  • Not enough space on disk

    Hello, I am a newbie here. I am asking some help for a vexing problem that I am having with my Blackberry 8320 Curve. I have a Windows XP Pro operating system, Blackberry desktop manager version 4.2.2.14, and roxio easy media creator version 9.
    I open up the desktop manager, connect my PC and blackberry. It then says connected. I then go to media on both the blackberry and on the desktop manager.
    I have an album that has been transferred to the roxio creator, and the songs are ishown n the top pane. I also have highlighted device memory and highlighted music folder.
    When I highlight a song and press the copy down button, any music that is over 2 minutes in length refuses to copy completely into the music folder. It does start to copy, then stops and says with an error message: not enough space on disk. For heavens sake, I am not copying it to drive c, I am copying it to my blackberry! It seems I am doing most of this process right because 2 songs on the album less than 2 minutes in length have copied to my bb, but the rest over 2 minutes will not copy.
    What in the world am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!

    If you are moving the music to your device memory, files over 2.9MB won't copy.
    Put them on your Media Card.

  • Not enough space on disk error when I have enough space on disk

    I'm trying to export a video to my external hard drive, which has plent of space.  About halfway through the export, Premiere gives me a "not enough space on disk" error.  My startup drive is getting pretty full, but still has a bit of memory and I'm not sure why I would need space there if the render is going the external.
    Thanks for any help!

    Macs can read NTFS volumes.
    Maybe, but they can't write to them out of the box.  And since external drives generally come empty, it's a pretty safe bet that the purchaser will want to write files to it.  So, a lot of drive makers format as FAT32.
    exFAT is a better file system than FAT32, especially for solid state media like P2 and SD cards.  Using exFAT on those cards would allow large files (long continuous shots) and keep compatibility with Macs.  Now, if only camera makers would issue firmware updates to allows exFAT formatted media...

  • Not enough space on disk to restore !

    can anyone help me ?
    I had some troubles with my mac so I made an image for the HD and every thing went fine and now when I want to restore it ,it says
    Not enough space on /dev/disk0s2 to restore what should I do !!?

    I may be too late now (but for sake of knowing the next time):
    Before you make an image, re-size the source partition to a size smaller than the new (future) destination.
       - click on the source partition,
       - go to the Partition tab at the top,
       - then grab the handle in the lower right of the Partition Layout graph and drag it upwards.
            The size of the partition will change, but the partition won't be erased.
    - BE PATIENT - this can be as slow as defragmenting the drive! [guess]
            * Your computer will go into Sleep Mode every 10 mintues. Hit a modifier key - (SHIFT, CMD, CNTRL) -
              every 8 or 9 minutes to keep the computer from going into sleep mode.
            * Use your mouse to place the curser (every so often) in the progress bar to mark your progress.
    Then make a new Image.
           * Remember to "Scan Image for Restore" (in the Image menu) before proceeding.
    If its too late because the original partition is gone, try temporarily restoring your image to an external (as large or larger) drive. [CAUTION! Everything on that external drive will be replaced!!]
    Then re-size and create a new image - to be restored on your intended destination.
            (Give this image a new name just in case)
    IF YOU GET THE "Could not restore - resource busy" error:
       - First drage the destination partition (not the drive) into the destination field
       - THEN select the source image.

  • Iphoto '11 error message - not enough space on disk..

    Really struggling with iphoto '11 - version 9.3.2
    I keep getting the following error message: 'There may not be enough space on the disk containing your iPhoto library to import these photo'.  I've already read and attemped some of the suggestions in the thread below - and nothing worked unfortunately.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2676958
    For info, I originally set up iphoto as a disk image - to enabled shared viewing/editing between two users on the same mac.  This has worked fine for the last two years, but obvioiusly running low on space as i've added photos.
    I've already tried creating a new disk image with increased capacity, copied over the files, and directed iphoto to open this instead.. but not worked - getting same message.
    Have also checked disk image format type - i'm using 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)' which i believe is the right one ??
    Any advice, much appreciated.
    thanks,
    Neil

    Hi,
    On the old one - only 7MB (hence I created a new one with more space).
    I have photos using a total of 18.5 GB, the new disk image has a 40GB capacity.  Still getting the same out of space error message though.

  • Not enough space on disk to restore a backup

    Hello,
    I must restore my iPhone from the backup that I have on my Windows7. It has 21gb, when I start to restore it, It requires 21gb of free space as well. I have only 13 left. Is there any solution? I cant free up more space on C:, I already cleared bin etc.

  • Encore CS3: not enough space in disk now, but yesterday was OK!

    Yet, another problem with Encore CS3: now it refuses to compile the DVD folder because the project exceeds the disk capacity (DVD DL).
    I can´t understand this: yesterday it said that I was exceeding the disk capacity but it compiled the DVD files anyway (and there was really a lot of free space left in the disk, the VIDEO_TS folder was still under 8 Gb).
    The only thing I´ve changed since then are the compression settings of one clip, reducing its quality so in theory I should have even more free space than yesterday.
    I´ve been using this software for years and had never so many problems as with this project.

    Go back to yesterday!  (Ha, ha!)  (I suppose that's half serious: revert to original and use your old settings.  But I wonder if this error will now occur even then.)
    I've had good luck with opening CS3's in CS4.  I wonder if the PC to Mac change would be an issue.  Just copy it all so you have something to go back to.
    One user had something like this happen because one timeline exceeded the size per side.  (That may have been BD.)
    I wish I listed all the reasons for this the last time.
    This may have also happened because the C: drive fills up with cache files. Try clearing the media cache?

    Thanks,

    Hi,
    From your description, you encountered the issue when you load the SharePoint sites.
    Check things below:
    1. You can go to check ULS log to see the details or the cause of the issue. (The path of the ULS log: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS).
    2. You can move the temp folders to a different partition/disk, because when you load the SharePoint sites, there are some objects will be stored in the temp folders.
    You can go to the properties of the server->Click on the advanced tab->Click
    on environment variables->within the system variables section locate the TEMP and TMP variable and change them->Reboot the machine.
    After these steps, you can check if the same issue will occur.
    3. Reset the internal information service (IIS) manager to see if the same situation will appear.
    4. After you clean up in C drive, you should restart the server.

  • Trying to build a DVD image, DVDSP4 says not enough space

    I have many years' experience using DVD Studio Pro 4, so this hopefully is not a stupid question.
    I'm using an iMac with 80gb free and an external HDD with 12gb free.  I have authored a DVD in DVD Studio Pro 4.  The project says it's 4.6gb.
    I need to make a disc image file of the DVD so I can burn it to DVD media using another computer.  When I do this, it encodes for hours and then says "Formating Failed.  Not enough space of the output media"  (I might be paraphrasing.)
    The only possiblt output medias, the iMac and the external drive, both have plenty of space, and the project is under the limit.  So what gives?

    Let me try this again, because I think we're not communicating.
    I have authored a DVD Studio 4 project with menus and assets, etc.  It simulates just fine.  The tab on the top of the DVDSP screen indicates my project is 4.6gb.  This means I should have no problem turning this project into a DVD.  The computer I'm working on has no DVD burning capabilities so I want to create a disc image of the project instead of burning a DVD.  I have done this before, where DVDSP encodes and builds a file that I can then use Disk Utility to burn to a DVD.  So, once I have my disk image, I will transfer that file to another computer, and use Disk Utility on that second computer to burn the DVD from the disk image.
    NOW
    The problem I'm having is that DVDSP is not able to make the disk image.  When I go to "Build/Format", it should make a disk image, but instead, I get an error saying there is not enough space on the output device.  The "output device" in this case is my external Hard drive which has plenty of space.  That is why I am asking for help.

  • The operation could not be completed because there is not enough space on the destination disk

    I have 124Gig of space left on my HD, when I try to export my movie i get this error "The operation could not be completed because there is not enough space on the destination disk"  I have read some of the threads went in and deleted the iMovie Preference file but no luck.. any Ideas?  Thanks!

    You need the System DVDs that originally came w/the computer in order to troubleshoot.  All Macs prior to & including ML came w/System DVDs.
    You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
    If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html  Another resource:  International Support Phone #s.

  • "Not enough memory or disk space" -can't be true

    I'm trying to open a doc file with images. The size of file is 1MB - when I try to open in word or double click on it I get this message; "There is not enough memory or disk space to complete this operation" - which makes no sense. Could the file be corrupt? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Yes. This file is probably corrupt. You may be able to open it "as text" and recover the text.
    "Out of memory" is usually a catch-all error message that almost never means what it says.

    Important
    This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the
    registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry,
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-the-registry
    To open the Registry Editor, please press Win + R, type regedit in the blank box, press

    Now the Registry Editor is open.
    Then we see the pane on left, expand the following path:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
    Then we can see a list on right, find Cache, right click on it, click
    Modify..., under Value data, change the value to something like
    C:\Windows\Temp, click OK.
    Exit Registry Editor.
    As for "You might also right click on the file with file explorer, choose Properties, then General tab and click on the Unblock button." Just find the file, right click on it, choose
    Properties, under General tab, if you see a
    Unblock button, click on it.
    "Some of our customers found it sometimes a permission problem.
    cmd  => dcomcnfg" Do the following:
    Press Win + R, type in cmd in the blank box, press
    Enter.
    In the new black-background window, type in dcomcnfg, press
    Enter.
    Then the Component Services window will pop up, on the left pane, expand
    Component services -> Computes ->
    My Computer -> Dcom config -> and select
    Microsoft Excel Application, right click on it -> Properties ->
    Identity tab -> Select The interactive user ->
    OK.
    I hope I've explained the steps clearly.
    Good luck.

  • Cannot print to pdf -There is not enough memory or disk space to repaginate this document

    I don't know if this is an Adobe pdf issue or just a Word 2013 thing.
    But I'm now using Word 2013 on Win 8.1, 64 bit, 8Gs of Ram and when I go to print a few select pages of my document a message pop out at me saying
    'There is not enough memory or disk space to repaginate this document'.
    When I had Win 7, the same amount of Ram and Word 2010, I print incrementally to pdf okay. Granted, sometimes certain pages print blank and I have to print it again after restarting the computer but at least I got stuff printed to pdf.
    Now I go to print to pdf as little as 1 single page and that message just pop right up like a really bad penny. As far as I can tell, Adobe is up to date unless I'm missing something.
    Has anyone ever had this issue and got it resolved?

    Thanks TSN.
    (how to check if Ram is full )?
    the memory is 8 G Ram. I only have office 365, Acrobat X1 pro, Gimp, and Inkscape installed. The problem was there before I installed the last two.
    I posted on Microsoft as well and the response was that since I could print the document on regular printer without any issues, then it is an Adobe issue. Using the toolbar is pdfing the full document. That takes a very, very, long time besides at the end of it, many pages are blank in the pdf file and then it is a matter of restarting the computer, re-pdfing until I am tired. So I print the pages incrementally.  Any other way to pdf select pages without any problems?

  • Write: 0xecf6eb0, 4096: There is not enough space on the disk.

    Our applications occasionally get the error in the function specified by set_errcall: "[prefix] write: 0xecf6eb0, 4096: There is not enough space on the disk. " Preceded by "DB00.db: write failed for page"
    There most certainly is enough space on disk for one. In this most recent case, the Db::put's succeeded for a full hour before finally failing with an out of space error. At which point, I now have 30 log files and my own log files are filled with Berkeley error callbacks.
    How come the set_errcall doesn't return an integer error code? If it did, we would be able to analyze that and decide any action to take. In this example, I might consider closing down all handles and checkpointing then removing logs since maybe the number of logs has gotten to large. Analyzing a string doesn't make sense since that might change with Berkeley versions.
    Anyway, can anyone give any advice as to why we would get an out of space error (with plenty of disk space.) And also how to handle such an error.

    The platform is C++ API version 4.7.25 running on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise SP2. The database is on an NTFS disk. We have tested database files up to 20GB in size. The following is my config.
    m_pDbEnvironment->set_cachesize(0, 10 * 1024 * 1024, 1);
    m_pDbEnvironment->set_lg_max(20000000);
    m_pDbEnvironment->set_lg_bsize(10 * 1024 * 1024);
    m_pDbEnvironment->set_mp_max_write(4, 0);
    m_pDbEnvironment->set_mp_mmapsize(2 * 1024 * 1024);
    m_pDbEnvironment->set_mp_max_openfd(1);
    // set the alloc methods into the environment
    m_pDbEnvironment->set_alloc(QPRT_ALLOC, QPRT_REALLOC, QPRT_FREE);
    m_pDbEnvironment->set_lk_detect(DB_LOCK_YOUNGEST);
    m_pDbEnvironment->set_timeout(500000, DB_SET_LOCK_TIMEOUT);
    m_pDbEnvironment->set_timeout(200000, DB_SET_TXN_TIMEOUT);
    m_pDbEnvironment->set_flags(DB_REGION_INIT, 1);
    m_pDbEnvironment->set_tx_max(5000);
    m_pDbEnvironment->set_flags(DB_TXN_WRITE_NOSYNC, 1);
    m_pDbEnvironment->log_set_config(DB_LOG_ZERO, 1);
    m_pDbEnvironment->set_lk_max_lockers(5000);
    m_pDbEnvironment->set_lk_max_locks(5000);
    m_pDbEnvironment->set_lk_max_objects(5000);
    m_pDbEnvironment->open((zKSz)sPath,     DB_CREATE | DB_INIT_LOCK | DB_INIT_LOG | DB_INIT_MPOOL |
                                       DB_THREAD | DB_INIT_TXN | DB_RECOVER | DB_LOCKDOWN,
                                       0);
    We also checkpoint every 2 to 5 minutes with a 5MB threshold. We also explicitly call pDbEnvironment->log_archive(kpNil, DB_ARCH_REMOVE) after checkpointing.
    Primary and (up to 4) secondary databases are opened with DB_CREATE | DB_AUTO_COMMIT flags.
    I'd also appreciate any suggestions as to how to lower the memory footprint used by Berkeley. Ever since we've integrated this DB, our memory usage has been too large and inconsistent. There are 6 independent environments the product uses during runtime. Each of these environments have a primary database and (up to 4) secondary databases, which are all opened with DB_CREATE | DB_AUTO_COMMIT flags.
    Just recently we have added a memp_trickle every 5 seconds at 40% (Anything lower and it has no affect in the environment, in other words, db_stat shows dirty pages forced from the cached instead of trickled.) We are trying to reproduce this issue at this point.
