Display a tooltip over a word [was: I should know this....]

I don't remember what it's called or how to do it.
I want to create a little text bubble that appears on mouseover a particular word, similar to the Alt text that appears upon mouseover an image.
The word I want to mouseover may or may not be a link - not sure yet.

The delay is set automatically by the browser. To get a faster response, you can use CSS. You'll find a lot of results if you Google "CSS tooltips".
Unfortunately, IE6 supports the :hover pseudo-class only on links. If you're using Dreamweaver CS4, you can use the Spry Tooltip widget, which works cross-browser (as long as JavaScript is enabled).

Nothing special, beyond an intelligent human being, is required to make this happen.
Read the User's Guide, it covers basic functionality of the device including syncing content from the computer to the device.

Does Adobe Reader have the plug-in to display the word definition when moving mouse over the word?

I would like to know if Adobe Reader has such plug-in that displays the word definition when the user moves the mouse over the word.
Basically I think it needs to
detect what word is presented under the cursor
look up the word in the dictionary or source file e.g.xml
pop up the definition of the word, which can be a translation or definition
It would be great if user can actually customize this dictionary file/source file.
Do you think there is such plug-in?

When I use Adobe Reader “look up” function, it takes me to dictionary.com. I am wondering if Adobe Reader allows me to customize this look up function, so I can use another website or my offline dictionary, instead of going to dictionary.com.

Hello.
I am using Visual Studio 2010, but I suspect the bug is still present on the 2013 version, as I compared the winfrm.cpp file and the OnToolTipText are exactly equal on the two files.
The bug is happening always at the 7th, 8th or 16th element.
Although separators count as elements for this counting, the tooltips do not appear over them.
Element can be a textual MENUITEM, a POPUP menu or toolbar button.
The string table defines are:
    #define IDS_SEVEN            7
    #define IDS_EIGHT            8
    #define IDS_NINE             9
    #define IDS_TEN             10
    #define IDS_ELEVEN          11
    #define IDS_TWELVE          12
    #define IDS_THIRTEEN        13
    #define IDS_FOURTEEN        14
    #define IDS_FIFTEEN         15
    #define IDS_SIXTEEN         16
and the STRINGTABLE contents are:
    IDS_SEVEN           "Seven"
    IDS_EIGHT           "Eight"
    IDS_NINE            "Nine"
    IDS_TEN             "Ten"
    IDS_ELEVEN          "Eleven"
    IDS_TWELVE          "Twelve"

So, when I hover with the mouse pointer the 7th, 8th or 16th element I get WRONGLY a tooltip displaying the string with that ID (Example:7th element displays "Seven").
It happens with all my toolbars and all my menus with a sufficient number of items, including in the toplevel horizontal menubar.
I discovered that the guilty function is:
BOOL CFrameWnd::OnToolTipText(UINT, NMHDR* pNMHDR, LRESULT* pResult)
as the nID local variable does not get the ABSOLUTE ID of the Command, but the POSITIONAL order of the button, starting with 1 instead of 0.
If I would move the strings IDs out of that range, whenever a user wants to add new strings, the Visual Studio Resource Editor would see that space free and use it, filling it again. And the problem would happen again. So, it is not a valid solution.
I could also define strings for all commands. But as we are maintaining four TFS branches at the same time and the change needs to go to all branches, this change would be potentially very dangerous when doing merges after.
So, please what solution do you recommend to not display those stupid tooltips?
UPDATE: I didn't copy the string table exactly as it was. It was like this:

In the update I put a stringtable more similar to the one I had. I had not noticed before a common feature of 7, 8 and 16 th strings: they all had '\n' characters in their contents.
I think nobody will create a menu with more than 512 menuitems nor toolbars with more than 512 buttons, so my solution was to change all strings containing '\n' characters with an ID below 512 to numbers above 512.
And it works.

Advange of using Adobe Acrobat over Microsoft word 2007 PDF add -in

I would like to know what is the advantage of using Adobe Acrobat 9 standard or professional over Microsoft Word 2007 PDF addin. Microsoft will ship the PDF convertor with SP2 later this month, in that case what should be the use of using adobe acrobat to convert a document to PDF and not use microsoft word built in features.
This is just a doubt which arouse and thought if I could ask here, thought to control some adobe acrobat licenses being used in our environment.

I have found that some of the links and other items just to not work well with the add-in from MS. However, with OFFICE 2007, it appears that MS has put some hooks in the system to screw up Acrobat. Typical pages that are produced with Acrobat get cut into sections (a graphic will be chopped into multiple graphics and pasted together). I say this is OFFICE only from the perspective that we have tried it with OFFICE 2007 and both AA7 and AA8 and gotten the same result. When we used the same file in OFFICE 2003 with AA7, the PDF was fine. So when you complain about the PDFs created by OFFICE 2007 and Acrobat, you may be seeing something that is a result of OFFICE, not Acrobat. Generally they still look good, it is only in some detail where you will see problems.
A major advantage we found with Acrobat is that it did not have issues with messing up the links that the MS add-in had. You can try some of this yourself, but that is a summary of our conclusions. Bill

Hidden formatting held over from Word doc conversion

Our company is shifting our product manuals from Word docs to InDesign. I'm a newbie to InDesign, and I have just converted my first attempt using File>Place. This was a moderate size file (15MB), with a lot of embedded images, diagrams, and formatting. Although some of the text formatting didn't convert properly, the clean up has been easy. The biggest issues I've found are residual page and section breaks that needed to be manually removed from my text frames.
My boss, however, is hesitant and concerned that there might be some "hidden" formatting that carried over from Word that will ultimately undo all my progress and wreck havoc with the new ID document when we least expect it. Is there anything I should be looking for in particular?

Tooltip over a TreeNode in JTree

We are trying to get the tooltip for a TreeNode to show up directly over the text of the node so that when the TreeNode text is clipped by a JSplitPane divider it can be seen completly as a tooltip. Our interface is very similar to Explorer where there is a file system tree on the left and a table on the right. We want the tooltip to show up just like it does in Explorer. We have tried numerous different techniques, but am unable to get the tooltip to show up directly over the node and to the right of the TreeNode's icon.
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated... and I'll throw in some duke dollars too. What the heck, I've got so many, I don't know what to do with them. ;-)

Override the getToolTipLocation(MouseEvent e) method in your JTree to display the tooltip in the desired location(directly over the tree node).
Try this piece of code. I've used it in my application and it works!

Pages used to make backups... It does no longer... I cannot even revert to a previous version not being able to open the document that I was still working on half an hour ago. Thank heavens, I made a copy by selecting all text and copying it into an email when the problem first occurred yesterday evening. I am now working on it as an email. I can't risk loosing text this way anymore thru Pages. This is very bad. I am truly disappointed by this... particularly having moved from MS Office to iWorks!

There is am add-on that lets you stop over a word and it will give you the opitions of looking uo futher info but I can't find it.

I have an account but it's not accepting my pass word so I had to re-register. That's not my problem though. I don't have a real problem I love Fire Fox but my system crashed and I'm starting all over again. There is an add-on that let's you stop over a word on any page and it will give you the option of looking up more info on that subject ( I think from Wikipedia, but not sure?). It will give you a little box like a comic strip person talking and then you can go to the box. You can then click on the box to get more info. I can't find this anywhere, can anyone help? How can I retain the attached .pdf files (displayed as icons) from my word file 2010 to a pdf file?

I have looked for an answer in this forum ... without any good result.
I worked on a Word 2010 file with some attached pdf files. These attached files are displayed as icons on the word file. If you double click on them, you can consult them. This works very good.
Problem: I would like to convert this word 2010 file into a pdf file, which keeps the icons (linked to attached files) active. If I "pdf" this with my current system, icons are displayed as pictures: I cannot open the attached files.
My question is very simple: is it possible to retain these active icons (= to open attached documents) in a pdf file? Which adobe package should I use?

If you want to change your iCloud ID or password on your phone go to Settings>iCloud and tap Delete Account, then sign back in with your updated information. Note: this only deletes the account and any synced data from your phone, not from iCloud. Provided you are signing back into the same account and not changing accounts it will be synced back to your device when you sign back in.

Printing problem - Words over other words

Hello, I created a report and when hit the print icon in the Crystal Viewer it prints the report, but some words are over other words.
The first time that I hit on the print button IE installed the ActiveX component (since I need to print in client-side, I put ActiveX option in the crystal reports viewer).
I tried printing in my printer and in a PDF printer and I get the same issue on both.
I tested it printing by code using the PrintToPrinter method and the report is printed fine. But I can''t use that because it just print in the Server printer, right?
I am using the last version of CR with VS2010 in Windows 7 64 bits.
Could you please help me with this issue?

The reason it prints in "Debug mode with VS". is that when you do this, you are essentially running a win app, not a web app. I'd recommend using code as described in the below KBase to find out if the worker process has access to the printer you are trying to use.

I just completed this task (support.apple.com/kb/HT1364) moving my music to an external HD to free up my PC hard disc and all went well until I re-opened iTunes and it is a blank new account!
I also don't can't access anything from the recycle bin as when I copied the iTunes file to the recycle bin it said it was too large to copy over so made me effectively empty as I copied over as it was so big.
Any help gratefully recieved or where I can get some, I am going round in circles. I also don't know which itunes operating system I have, it is around 3 years old.

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music' then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo
