The 17 inch CRT display that my cube runs has developed a very strange failure and I am uncertain if it is the display itself, the video card, the computer, or...
When using the mouse to navigate, the screen will turn from whatever is displayed into vertical stripes with the cursor location indicated by about a 1-inch square different pattern of vertical stripes. This does not happen when only the desktop is displayed, usually when web surfing but now happens very often even in programs making the machine un-usable.
The only solution is to re-start.

No, there isn't another monitor nearby and this computer lives about 75 steps above the street. I have taken photos of how the screen looks and will try to post on one of the chat boards.
Like I said, this problem happens when you move the cursor with the mouse, so could it even be the mouse?

Crashes, sound loss, and other problems
Hello,
I have been having some serious problems over the past several months. In the past it was fairly manageable, but recently things have been getting worse.
I have a 12-inch PowerBook G4, I bought it at the McGill bookstore in October 2004. The first problem was the apparently random crashes that Mac OS X (v.10.4.8) would experience from time to time. It was fairly infrequent at first so it didn't bother me too much (and I thought it was just some sort of glitch). But it persisted and came to be expected.
What would happen is that my screen would darken and center box would appear telling me, "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button." (it would display this message in English, French, German, and Japanese for my convenience). After I restart the computer I get the message, "The computer was restarted after Mac OS X quit unexpectedly". At first it seemed to be linked to time; after a while it would just crash, sometimes after an hour or so, sometimes after as little as five minutes. (I fear as I write this that I will have to start over). More recently I've come to associate the crashes with movement of the computer; perhaps the battery (which is pretty much dead after so much use) is affecting the performance, I don't know.
The next problem, which coincided with the crashes, was my clock being reset. I assumed this was directly associated with the spontaneous shutdown of the computer, yet though the crashes continued, the clock was not always reset (just about a third of the time). This was a pretty frustrating inconvenience given the frequency of the crashes at the beginning.
The major problem that prompted me to take action was the lose of sound. One day, about a month ago now, my sound suddenly stopped working. At first I thought it was a hardware problem, but then I noticed the sound was still working with some things and just not others. For example, the sound increase/decrease indicator (the 'pop' sound when turning up or down the sound) stopped working, yet the startup sound still worked. I've found that Realplayer, MPlayer X 2, and Windows Media Player work fine but iTunes, VLC, and Quicktime don't. Most of the applications simply don't make sound but when I try to video in VLC I get the following error: "auhal: we cannot find our HAL component" or "auhal: audio-device var does not exist. device probe failed."
Other minor errors I have come across include inability to detect the Airport card (remedied upon restarting the computer) and occasional seizing up of the keyboard (the letter keys, exclusively, were unresponsive for sometime before working again suddenly without need of restart).
I've run diagnostic tools such as Disk Utility and the 'fsck' command in single-user mode, but nothing has been detected. It consistently comes up saying that everything is alright.
I have backed-up all important files and programs (with the exception of my Firefox bookmarks, do you know how I can save those?) and am prepared to do whatever it takes to bring my computer back to working order. I need my computer for schoolwork and assignments so if I can fix it myself in anyway... I would prefer to avoid lengthly repairs if possible.
Please let me know what my options are, and/or possible things I can do to repair these problems. This whole affair is, unsurprisingly, driving me crazy.
One last thing, upon launching Microsoft Word, I get the following pop-up:
Application Launch Failure
The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "3<Microsoft Word><Microsoft Word><MicrosoftLSLibZ>"
I do not know whether this is linked to my other problems or not. This too, is something that has recently come up and is significantly affecting my work (I have had to switch to writing my essays on TextEdit).
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Transparent spry menu that has a background color on sub menus and a few other problems(Please Help)
Hi im a noob at dream weaver and i've been trying to create a menu and i have been having problems with this menu bar i don't know what to upload and i have made a topic about this before but i only got one reply and so i am trying to make my menu bar transparent and then the sub menu's colored with the color code #1A1A1A and the menu bars that have been color background are only the sub sub menu bars if you know what i mean and also my other problem is the spacing i have between each option is really uneven is there a way to make them evenly sperated apart from each other rather than just the size of a "box" that the text is in. Adobe Acrobat X incompatible with Office 2010 x64! Along with other Problems I found!
I AM VERY ANGRY AS WELL AS LOSING IT BIG TIME!!! MADDNESS!!!!
Can someone FROM ADOBE FIX THESE PROBLEMS? CAN AN UPDATE OR FIX SOLVE OUR SITUATION WITH ACROBAT X?
First off, I cannot see the plugin appear in the Office ribbon, in ANY office program. I tried everything Adobe told me to do. From trying to locate the adding through the list of disabled add-ins (which is not displayed), or the command prompts option which did not work either.
Second of all, I have this message of "Missing PDFMaker files", then after reinstalling Adobe 10 times, as well as reinstalling office 2010 x64 Bit 26 times, reformatting Windows "7" Ultimate x64 Bit 5 times, I still had no results.
Third, yet not least, the other problem is that the option to create blank PDFs no longer exists. In addition, I am unable to edit existing PDFs, even if they do not have security on them. I want a word processing feature added to Acrobat!
Can someone fix ANY of these problems, or may Adobe create an update to FIX ALL of these problems, OR AM I GOING TO DROP ACROBAT IN FAVOUR OF ANOTHER COMPANY?

Purchased Windows 7 PC. 64 Bit OS
Installed MS Office 2003
Installed Acrobat 8.0.
While I did not have the complete functionality of converting Office documents to pdf's,
I could print documents and emails to pdfs.
I then upgraded my Acrobat to X. Still could print to pdf, but not do conversions.
I then upgraded to Office 2010, 64 bit. After upgrading to Office 2010, I cannot print,or convert documents to pdf using Acrobat X.
I cannot convert, or print e-mails to Pdf's in Outlook 2011. I cannot print or convert Word documents or Excel spreadsheets to to pdf's.
The only thing i can do is "Save As" a Word document into a pdf. I cannot use Acrobat X in Excel or Outlook at all.
Is there a solution to this problem? -
Logo displaying in productin but not displaying in some other user
Hello experts,
I developed payment advice sheet using scripts and transported to production successfully.In production also the output is dispalying correct but some other user (clnt uses different user in that only logo is not displaying) remaining output is correct.
But only logo is not displaying.But in production logo is displaying.What is the problem?

In production, the logo displays correctly for all but one user?
Or, did you mean that in the production instance, the logo is correct, but in other SAP instance(s), such as training, etc., the logo does not appear?
If the second case, check to see that transport completed in all target instances.
If the first case, sorry, no ideas about what would cause that. -

That indicates a kernel panic. Failure to address these when they first arise can result in bad problems becoming worse.

SMS Deleted NOT LOW on Memory -- plus other problems. HELP!
Ive only had my Curve 8900 for about a year, and I know thats about a decade in techie years but still...I'm incredibly frustrated with the issues I've been having!
Most pressing of these issues is that my phone keeps deleting my SMS even though my memory is NOT low! I've read tons of posts about the same issue but its always resolved by freeing up some memory.
My current memory status:

Apparently not. I have nothing stored on my blackberry, everything is on the Media Card (4GB) and I only have a couple applications (MSN, Facebook, GTalk) and yet my SMS get deleted regularly unless they are saved on my SIM card and also notifications on facebook are often deleted (those dont matter too much to me but I believe it is resulting from the same thing that is deleting my SMS)
Further, my call logs ARENT being deleted. So I dont think its the same memory problem everyone else seems to have.
I will be most most most grateful to anyone who can help me out here or at least point me in the right direction.
Im seriously considering shelling out for an iphone even though ive only had my blackberry for a year because I do rely heavily on smartphones and losing SMS is really driving me crazy. Sometimes I cant even read a newly received SMS before its deleted! By the time i pick up my phone its gone...

Ive had other problems as well, not to ramble on but in case they are related:
I will be chatting on bbm for example and it will just exit out of the conversation or the application entirely.
Oftentimes it slows down so much that the minute hand or whatever stays and everything freezes until i do a battery pull (which i hate doing but have to at least once a day) This often happens when Im using the browser...
Sometimes when I am getting a call the minute hand appears again and I cant answer
Oftentimes when this happens it says that I am receiving a call from an unknown number, but when they call back it turns out its a number i have saved...weird...
Sometimes I cannot dial or call (frustrating as hell when i need to make a call urgently!) I have to again do a battery pull to fix the issue.
Ive had other issues here and there but nothing really worth mentioning after this long rant so I'll just leave it at that!!
Thanks to whoever has had the patience to read all this and I really do hope I can get some help before I release my frustrations on this piece of junk and end up having to spend tons of money on another brick...zberry wrote:

Make sure that if, when you are making the backup (step 1 in the procedure), you say NO to any prompt to update your device OS at that point...you need to get a clean manual backup first so that you have it available just in case anything goes wrong. You will not be using DTM to do the update -- rather, you will be using the AppLoader included with the device OS package (as per step 2 in the instructions).
Also, make sure you have a manual inventory of all of your non-AppWorld 3rd party apps, including the source you obtained them from as well as any activation keys. You will want to re-install those fresh on the new OS rather than attempt to migrate them as part of the update.

To troubleshoot this issue where you're experiencing a poor image quality with your iPhone's camera, please follow the troubleshooting below.
Camera isn't functioning or has undesired image quality
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tappingSettings > General > Restrictions.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try to remain steady while focusing:
Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center.
Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. You can also tap to readjust focus while recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll.
Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.

I added photos of our company's products to the Goods App for our sales team to use as an electronic catalog. Some of the pictures display perfectly. Others are blury. How can I fix this? I Googled pixel size for Ipads and checked this size against the blury photos. They seem to be less than the max pixels allowed. Must be another solution????

I'm not familiar with O2's product lineup but given you're on Annex M is that a business package?
Are you on an Infinity residential or business package?
On the subject of the offshore support teams my experience from the other sife of the fence is that many, many of them are very technically orientated. The problem is that the ISPs they work for don't give them access to many of the tools that are needed (they need to raise internal requests to even get line checks done in some cases) and also they are very heavily scripted & monitored in what they do/say on a call.
Sounds like O2 are operating as a contact centre rather than as a call centre which is much more preferable from the customers point of view.

30" cinema dead: power brick, graphics card, or other problem?
so, everything was going fine, then I hear a power surge beep through my Ups, and my apple 30" display goes black. checked all connections, plugged in a spare monitor. checked and changed power connections, and all other advice from initial troubleshooting. computer seems ok, it shows both the apple cinema display and other monitor are active in the system preferences. but the power brick is cold, and no power is getting to the cinema display.
What are my next steps to see if my power brick has failed or some other problem has arrived?

Beta repeatedly crashing Nvidia display driver; no other app does. What's up?

Beta crashes the display driver, which self reboots, principally when I try to use the Back button.
The computer is rock solid in other apps.The latest drivers do not fix this very common problem that people are widely posting about on the web. In fact the problem is the latest, and not so latest drivers. The current bypass for this long standing bug in nVidia`s software, quality control, training and HR practices is to install the old 275.33 drivers.
If you can 100% fix the problem with a software change it is a software problem not a hardware problem, and that is the case with the Firefox crashes.
If you have other problems, not just Firefox, then you have some other problem -- so start your own topic.
nVidia GTX460, never over-clocked, and it crashes Firefox with any version of the nVidia WHQL drivers later than version 275.33.
Anyone wanting proof that this problem is caused by nVidia is invited to install the 275.33 drivers and see that this particular problem goes away.
I'm shocked. I pointedly advise everyone to stay away from nVidia because nVidia has been so incredibly intransigent in its refusal to admit the problem is its drivers.
I've done clean installs, even installs with DriverSweeper, all the WHQL versions since 275.33, as clean as is possible without re-formatting and re-installing Windows, and it just does not help.
But you know, if a clean install did fix it, it would still be a bug in nVidia's code because requirements for clean installs are due to bugs in install scripts.
Anyway, clean installs don't fix it. You can only fix it by going back to an earlier nVidia driver, (one that doesn't have the optimization for SkyRim, the game I'm waiting to play).
nVidia's corporate attitude on this is a disgrace. The immediate solution they should provide are fixed drivers and install scripts, but this problem has gone on for so long now that a software fix is just a bypass. The real bug is poor management attitude. -
Oracle 8.1.5 install on Linux Redhat 6.0: character set (and other) problem(s)
I am trying to install Oracle 8i on Linux and it does not work : once the install is finished, I have a message saying that "Character Set not found".
I am runing a french version of Linux (fr-latin 1) and I try to install Oracle with French and English as languages
An other problem about this install : Oracle does not seem to recognize that I have 6,9 Giga for it to install, and says that I have not enough space for the install...
And at the end of the install, it takes for ages (about 15mns) during which nothing seems to happen. On one machine I got out of this phase, but on the other I never saw it finish, it looks as if the computer crashed. Is that normal?
I went through all the initialization phases, set the correct environment variables...

nullI've been dealing with the same problems in the english version but could bypass thiss by doing the folowing.
-Just ignore the disk space stuff
-Ignore the charset message, also
-When creating a database, choose custom and then select the WE8ISO8859P1 char set. It worked for portuguese, must work for french also.
-Everyone here recommended, and I do the same, leave the database creation for later, not during instalation.

New 6500 E709n loses wireless connection when it or laptop sleeps... & other problems!
Just got this printer and am hoping we can get it to work because we really like it. I believe we've done everything right - it is connected to PC via USB, and to laptop via wireless network. Both computers are Dells running XP. Our wireless router is a Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G. We installed the disk on both. Immediately after installing on the laptop by plugging in USB and then unplugging, we were able to get it to work. We printed and scanned from both . . . UNTIL the printer went into power save mode.
When it sleeps it loses all the network connections (but will still print from PC). Even the icons disappear from the laptop after it sleeps. The only way to get it to work with the laptop again is to start all over, plug in the laptop, enter the WPA key again, and so on. Then it's finebut for just a short while. Now, when I registered my protection plan, I was on the phone with a techie guy and asked him if it's normal to have to keep entering the key every time you want to print, and he actually said that maybe I shouldn't let the printer sleep - wow! I want to conserve energy, so I may even want to shut it off, okay, and I don't feel I should have to go through this rigamarole every time I want the darn thing to just be available to the network. Furthermore, what's the sense of having to turn "Wireless Radio" on and off all the time???
Anyway, there are other problems and the menus in the internal web browser is about as confusing as it can be. Is the passphrase the same as a WPA key? There's a passphrase in there which I did not enter, and I don't know what it is because it's been disguised with dots. When I enter the WPA key on the front panel of the printer, it doesn't stick. One thing I noticed in the instructions is to keep telephones away from it, so I moved ours (was right next to it) but it's still being ornery.
In addition, the scan function only works from the software, not as a standalone if I use the front panel. When using the button on the front panel, sometimes it sees the laptop, sometimes it doesn't, and then it starts to scan, but a menu pops up on the computer asking to update the buttons, and then nothing happens.
Have we a clunker on our hands that should be returned, or is there a remedy? All suggestions welcome!

Yes, the passphrase is the same as the WPA-PSK key.
No, it's not normal to have to re-enter the wireless security key over and over again. Politely tell our service agent that he is mistaken on this point.
There's no sense in having to turn the radio on and off all the time to get the printer to remain on the network.
When the printer goes into power-save mode, can you still access the printer's internal web page by browsing to it's IP address? When the printer loses wireless connectivity, can you wake the printer by pressing any of the buttons on the front panel?
I have a couple more questions:
What WRT54G HW version do you have (it'll be on the bottom label of the router)?
What version of FW does your router have? You'll have to browse to the router's internal web page to find out.
Finally, change the WPA-PSK group key renewal period to the largest value possible. Tell if this affects the frequency of printer losing Wi-Fi connectivity?
One more question. After you have the printer connected to your wireless network and it's working, if you turn the printer off (via the power button), wait five seconds then unplug it then plug it back in and turn it on, does it connect to your network?

My TV is mounted on a wall so I can't connect the Apple TV device. Is it possible to connect to an HD Cable Box and send signal to TV that way? Other problem is that Box only has one HDMI socket so would also have to use a splitter. Tried Apple Support but couldn't offer a solution. I can't be the only person with this issue surely?
Help!No, unless you are using a home theatre system already, your only option is to connect to the TV.
