Display issues in Windows 8.1

In Windows 8.1 pro all my Office 2013 apps experience disrupted display views randomly. This doesn't occur under Windows 7. How can this be resolved? It's quite annoying!

Hi,
I would agree with the link provided above. This is probably an incompatibility issue between your video driver and the Office 2013 feature set that is responsible for displaying the application.
So please first follow the instructions in above link to disable the hardware graphics acceleration in Office 2013 and see if issue persists.
Please feel free to post back with any findings.

  • Photoshop CS6 Display issues - After Windows 8 upgrade

Just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro (64bit).  Now the background interface in Photoshop CS6 keeps changing when I click the image, the background, the layer and the crop tool.  I get transparent, black and various grey.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled PS CS6 with no change.  I did not have an issue in Windows 7.  The rest of CS6 runs fine. Can anybody help?  Thanks

What is the make and model of your video card?
What is the number and date of the installed video driver?
Is that the latest release from nVidia, or AMD/ATI?
If it is not the latest, go to the nVidia, or AMD/ATI Web site, plug in your card, and your OS, then download and install the latest driver. Test.
Do not trust Windows, or any utility to tell you if you have the latest driver. Verify that from the mfgr's. Web site.
    Good luck,

  • LR display issue with Windows 8.1

I installed LR 5 on Windows 8.1.  The install went fine.  When it launched, it prompted me for my product key and I entered it.  After it was complete, I exited out of LR.  When I went back to launch LR, it launches but will not display. I can hover over it on the taskbar and see the application running but it will not display.  I have restarted both Windows and LR and it does not resolve this.  I did not have this issue with LR 3 on Windows 8.1.  Has anyone else experienced this?

    Hi,
For this problem, in my opinion, it would be better to contact LifeCam Cinema support for further assistance:

  • HP Envy 15 Display Issues in Windows 10

So far in WIndows 10 everything is working great except two minor, but very annoying, setting issues. One, there's constantly a slight flicker on my display reminiscent of a refresh rate issue but I have no idea how to fix it. It's very apparent on screens with contrasting colors. The more major problem is that I cannot control my screen brightness. If I use the keyboard buttons (F2 and F3), the little animation will pop up showing the level increase or decrease but the actual screen brightness remains constant (at 100%). The same holds if I try to adjust the brightness with any Windows setting screen. This is not only inconvenient in adjusting to differently lit rooms but it also kills my battery. I have an AMD Radeon 6600M/6700M graphics card and Intel HD Graphics 3000 according to Device Manager, and all drivers are up to date. I can't re-install the AMD driver in compatability mode (something I've already contacted AMD about, awaiting their response).Any help is really appreciated. This might make me revert to Windows 7 if I can't fix it before the 30 day period.

Same issue here although I do not see the animation. Windows, HP and ATI drivers all upto date.  Product Name: HP Envy 15 j 151saOperating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

  • Display issues T540p, Windows 8.1, Intel, Citrix????

    Hi Everybody
We have numerous users who has the T540p laptop as their mobile office. When they are in-house they use the docking station that has an external monitor connected.
However, when they start a citrix application, the application Is all screwed up. See posted pic. The application window freezes and the mouse curser bounces around the edge!
    Link to picture
The application also shows the citrix desktop, as if the application window was moved off screen.
I’ve tried all the know solutions from Citrix, that concerns multi-monitor setup – no luck.
I have narrowed it down to Windows 8.1 with or without update 1, and the newest Intel driver for the HD4600 graphics card.
The problem does not show with Windows 7 or Windows 8 with the same version of intel drivers.
All tests have been done on clean installations of windows with “Intel Iris And HD Graphics Driver” version 15.33.22.3621 (10.18.10.3621)
Have anyone else experienced this issue.

    Michael,
I have the same problem to but on a Windows 7 machine, with two monitors.
While launching Citrix Fulld desktop(FD) the window spans across two monitors every time it is launched.
Once the title bar is double clicked , FD settles on the secondary monitor
User launches a published app,on the primary monitor.
Then at random, FD spans across two monitors (user is unable to see the title bar to drag and rest)
Now has to Shift+F2 and then do the adjustments again. ( this happens quite randomly)
Could you tell me what was your fix to see if this can be of any help?

  • 13" Macbook (black), Snow Leopard, Boot Camp, Windows 7 display issue

OK I don't know where to post this. I couldn't find an appropriate forum under Boot Camp (nothing for display). Apologies if this is the wrong forum.
I am attempting to run Windows 7 using Boot Camp. Here is the behavior:
Booting Windows 7 without any monitor plugged in works fine.
Booting with an external monitor plugged in, I get the display on the external monitor. Now when I unplug the external monitor, the LCD display backlight is off and is completely dim. I had to reboot it in order for the LCD display to work again.
This is not a macbook display issue. But it has to do something with the way Windows 7, BootCamp are compatible with a macbook. Anyone seen this or know what the fix is?
    Thanks
    Sri

I can not get my Win 7 (32) os to see my Mac 10.6 partition. Is there something I need to set or turn on to get this to work?
As for your problem, perhaps Windows is not seeing the FireWire bus?

  • Screen display issue with InDesign CS4 (Windows)

I just upgraded from CS2 to CS4. I can open and use InDesign with no problems, until I try to switch to another application. Then, when I try to go back to InDesign, all I can see is the portion of the bar at the top of the screen that shows the link to Bridge, the view options and a bit of the outline of a palette or two. I have a two monitor setup. Most of the palettes are on the auxillary monitor and they show up just fine. The main display is where I'm having the issue. I can toggle in and out of Photoshop with no display issues. I haven't tried working with anything else from the CS4 package besides InD and Photoshop. This was not an issue with any CS2 product (Dreamweaver, Fireworks, InDesign, Photoshop, Flash). Nor has it been an issue with any of the other software I am running (so far).
When the display vanishes, I can see the "data" from the program I was trying to toggle out of. For example, if I try to toggle between this page and InD right now, I can see most of this page except for the part of the page obscured by the outline of the control palette (that one reminiscent of pagemaker) and the little bits at the top. I can't see the project I'm working on. I can't see the File/Edit/etc. bar at the top of the page. A Control/Shift/Save will lock up the program completely. Then, I see the "save as" menu box (in addition to the browser screen around it) but the program is locked up. I can close everything on the computer and reboot and open InDesign to resume work--that is until I need to do something like edit a photo to drop into a layout. Then the issue occurs all over again.
Windows machine; XP Pro, service pack 3 build 2600; NVidea GeForce 9600 GT graphics card.

Bob, thanks for the info about the 6.0.2 patch. I'll try grabbing that today. This morning, on the first boot, I can't even see the program when I open it--just the snip of the command palette and part of the very top bar. Very irritating.
Peter, I have tried maximizing, closing, reopening, etc. everything else I can think of. Same issue. I finally just bit the bullet and went back to CS2, rebuilding the current project so I can get the work done by deadline. I'll look for new video drivers this afternoon after I get back on track timewise on this newsletter. Weird that this display issue should just affect the one Adobe program though, and not the others if it is a video driver problem. I didn't do a lot of work in Dreamweaver--just enough to see if it displayed the same weird behaviour. Nope. Nor does Photoshop. Nor does Bridge. Nor does Acrobat. nor does any other software on the machine.

  • Display issue with vertical windows start menu and dual screen

    Hello everyone
I never reported it and I didn't find any information on google or mozilla support about this so here it is :
I am on windows 7 and I set up my windows start menu vertically. I also have 2 screens. These both points are important. If I put the start menu horizontally I do not have the issue anymore, and If I turn off one screen to have the display only on one screen, I do not have the issue anymore, which is a rare setup I guess so it could explain why this bug has never been detected.
    HERE IS THE ISSUE
I have display issues on website with a big width, even the default add-ons Manager firefox page doesn't display correctly. Here is a screen shot:
    http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/368172bugFirefoxDisplay.png
So as you can see the disable and remove button on the right are not displayed, and at the bottom there isn't any scroll bar to scroll ! So I have no way to display the information on the right of the page, and it happens on a lot of other website (gmail, etc)
It is not such a big issue because my start menu is on my left screen and I can move firefox on the right screen to have a correct display.
I still think this is worth reporting this bug. I hope it is clear, feel free to ask questions if you didn't understand.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox (you need to close and restart Firefox).

Running Windows XP service pack 3. Updated Firefox from 8.0 to 9.0. Now when Firefox opens "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded" is displayed in a window and no home page appears. What's wrong?

That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Hp officejet 4620 series doesnt display on my windows 8.1 to connect to scan

I do restart my printer and PC at those times but sometimes also restart my wireless router. my internet has high speed  of 115Mbps with Comcast. There is no problem with the internet provider problem should be with the printer it doesn't show up wirelessly in the laptop or else problem should be with the hp scan and capture app for not detecting the printer either way i didn't get any solution. This is always the same problem i face daily. Someone please do help in solving this its so frustrating when the device doesn't get detected to print and scan.

    Hi @reshmi,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I am sorry to hear about your frustration you are having with your HP Officejet 4620 not being able to scan on Windows 8.1. But I am happy to help you with this issue!
Are you able to make copies with your printer? (This way we know the hardware is functioning properly.)
I would recommend the following guides:
A 'No Computer Detected' or 'Connection Error' Message Displays When Scanning for HP Officejet 4610 ....
Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.
(Even though the guide titles may not match your issue, I believe the solutions will help.)
To verify if this is an issue with your HP Scan and Capture app, please try one of the alternate methods of scanning in this how to scan guide, Scan from Windows 8 With the Full Feature HP Software for HP Multifunction Printers. Select How to scan without HP software, and let me know if one of those methods work for scanning or not.

  • Display Issues with mini (Mid 2010) and LG L246WP

I recently purchased a new mini (Mid 2010 base model) and planned to use it with my 24" LG L246WP monitor, which is about 3 years old. The monitor has VGA, component, and HDMI inputs.
I used an HDMI-to-HDMI cable to connect the mini directly to the monitor, and the output is completely messed up. The mini recognized the monitor (titling the System Preferences > Display dialog with 'L246WP') and set it to the monitor's native resolution of 1920x1200, but on the monitor the image is cropped to what looks like a 4:3 aspect ratio and with part of the image shifted up and left so I cannot view the top menu bar or the left hand side of the desktop. The monitor's on-screen display shows 1080p in this mode.
The Display dialog also gives me an option for 1080p. I can select this and use the Underscan slider to resize the desktop output to fit on the screen, but it is still shifted left and must be resized smaller than the available display space (plus the total image is only 1080 pixels, not using the monitor's full native screen). In this mode, 1080p also shows on the monitor's on-screen display.
I tried 1024x768 to see if I could get a properly-positioned image, but the desktop was shifted just like in the 1920x1200 case and the monitor's on-screen display status still reported 1080p.
The monitor has a menu setting under an HDMI heading with "Video" and "PC" options, but changing this selection does not make a difference.
Since the monitor came out before HDMI was as widespread as it is today, it came with a DVI-to-HDMI cable, so I also tried using that cable with the HDMI-to-DVI adapter that came with the mini, but this did not make a difference either.
To prove it wasn't the HDMI cable, I connected the mini to my Samsung 6300 series 40" LED HDTV and with some tweaking of the Underscan slider the displayed image filled the screen perfectly.
I've searched the Internet and various forum threads (i.e. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1167222&page=63) seem to indicate this monitor can send a corrupted EDID that causes issues, especially with nVidia graphics drivers. On Windows you can use registry or driver hacks to override the EDID with the correct values, but on OS X this doesn't seem possible (I was hoping for a Terminal one-liner but it seems this doesn't exist). I have seen some mentions of the shareware SwitchResX (http://www.madrau.com), which looks like it gives you the option to override resolution settings, but I haven't tried this yet.
It also appears to me that the monitor is always interpreting the signal (or the mini is always sending the signal) as 1080p, even if I've set 1920x1200 in the Display dialog. I don't know if this is a defect in the monitor where it always assumes the HDMI input is a 1080p source (previous I used it with an Xbox 360 with no issues but that was 1080p HDMI), or if is a bug in the graphics drivers (or at least a lack of flexibility / miscommunication to the user trying to handle a corrupt EDID).
I asked my local Genius Bar for advice today (without bringing any hardware in) but was not told anything I didn't already know.
I'm trying to determine the best way to work through this issue. *My questions are:*
Would it make any difference if I used a Mini DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter (and then my DVI-to-HDMI cable to the monitor's HDMI input)?
What about a Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter? In the past I used a 12" Powerbook (via a mini-DVI-to-VGA adapter) with this monitor and had no display issues like this, but I'd prefer to stick with a digital connection on my brand new mini.
Is SwitchResX the only practical way in OS X to override a corrupt EDID and force the mini to output a certain resolution?
Besides the various adapters and SwitchResX, is there anything else I should try before buying a new monitor?

    Hello EPWilson4984.
I have been experiencing the same issues you described. Connecting my brand new Mac Mini to my Westinghouse 24”monitor (L2410NM,  1920x1200 pixel resolution) produces a very fuzzy and washed out image quality. The Mac recognizes the monitor and applies the right resolution (1920x1200), but it looks just awful. The EDID info is definitely not right.
Now, I tried your suggestion (DVI-to-HDMI), and similar suggestions from other threads, but nothing works. Nothing seems to work at all.
The main input for the monitor is HDMI, so whatever cable I use, in the end always has to connect to the monitor via HDMI. I tried all these combinations with zero success:
Mac mini -> HDMI cable -> monitor (result: fuzzy and blurry image)
Mac mini -> displayport –HDMI adapter-> HDMI cable -> monitor (result: fuzzy and blurry image)
Mac mini  -> displayport –DVI adapter-> DVI-to-HDMI cable -> monitor (result: it gives me a blank screen, no image at all)
I’m running out of options. Don’t know what to do. The 24” monitor produces beautiful, crisp images when hooked to my Windows 7 PC. It looks horrible when connected to my brand new Mac Mini.
Any alternatives you may have come across? Please let me know, thank you.

  • MacBook Pro Startup and Display Issues

I've been having some random problems with my MacBook Pro (2.16 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 100 GB 7200 rpm hard drive, ATI Radeon X1600 graphics). Specifically:
    1. Lines across the screen and purple boxes sometimes appear.
    2. The graphic effects (e.g. zooming a window) sometimes get "frozen" on the screen. In other words a remnant from the animation will stay until the window is refreshed.
    3. The Mac sometimes freezes during the startup process. Sometimes the login screen will be unresponsive and other times the Mac will almost bootup but fail when loading startup items.
    4. Less frequently the Mac will freeze randomly. I previously had iStat Menus installed and each time the MacBook Pro froze up it indicated both read and write disk activities.
Yesterday I decided to wipe the machine clean and start from scratch in case there were a software issue or corruption on the hard drive that was causing my woes. I completely erased my hard drive and even zeroed the entire disk to make sure everything was completely wiped out. I also disconnected all peripherals to simplify things as much as possible.
The first time I tried the reinstall everything completed successfully but the "Welcome" movie froze part way through. I then had problems running the install again. I was able to boot off the Leopard DVD, but the machine froze a couple of clicks into the install procedure. After numerous tries I was able to erase the hard drive once again and install Leopard. This completed successfully and I installed all updates.
The problems started to show up again almost immediately, however. I installed iLife and iWork and all the updates and had the computer freeze up on me again during a reboot. I also noticed that the display issues started to show up again even before installing any third-party software.
I've tried running disk tests with Drive Genius 2.1, but no errors have been reported. I've also used the freeware Rember program to run memory tests but have yet to see any errors. Sometimes my Mac powers up without any problems and once it's powered up it often stays running for days. The display issues appear quite frequently. I've using iStat Menus to keep an eye on the temperature sensors and everything appears to be normal - so it doesn't appear to be temperature related.
Fortunately the computer's still covered under the extended AppleCare warranty, but I would like to have some idea what's going on before I take it in just in case they're not able to reproduce the issues.
Any suggestions and insights would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance for reading my rather long-winded message.
    Cheers,
    Tim

I took my MacBook Pro in for repair and it turned out to be an issue with the logic board. I had the logic board replaced (fortunately it was covered under my extended AppleCare warranty) and these problems are a thing of the past.

  • Is this an issue with Windows 8.1 Enterprise Main theme or with my Laptop Screen??!!

    Hello,
I currently found a strange issue happening with my display and it only occurs when I am setting my desktop background as the Main Windows theme or any picture I set as a theme.
When I click inside any open folder as shown in this recorded video and when I click on Desktop, doing this back and forth and I notice quick flickering inside the open windows.
You will see this at second 0:26 in the video.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-8z8Ef2DcY&feature=youtu.be
It is also obvious in this video, I am doing this with the Intel Graphics Control Panel window.
The issue occurs at the time 0:10 and 0:25
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntqNC1gUtHU&feature=youtu.be
Note: This only occurs when I switch between themes for the first time.

Well, here are my latest results.
Now, I am 100% and I can guarantee you that there is a still issue within Windows 8.1 theme.
I installed Windows 8 again, now see how the Device Manager looks like, see the Display Adapter driver.
    It's Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.2)
And now before I install any drivers or programs when I switch between themes and then switch back to that Main blue theme, no single flickers happens, so that means Windows 8 has no problems?
Looks like when you released Windows 8, you included graphics drivers for each system to install automatically after Windows install. Now the Windows Main Theme is a blue flower.
I installed Windows 8.1 again, now see how the Device Manager looks like, see the Display Adapter driver.
    It's Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.
And now before I install any drivers or programs when I switch between themes and then switch back to that Orange color theme, I get screen quick black flickering, so that means Windows 8.1 may have got issue when switching back to the Main theme.
I have also read this in this link
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/dn344644.aspx
Windows 8.1 x86 and x64 graphics driver availability status
Windows 8.1 graphics driver deployment changes (x86/x64)
Windows 8.1 doesn't include in-box, third-party GPU drivers. Instead, drivers are provided via Dynamic Update during the operating-system (OS) installation or upgrade process, or via Windows Update after the initial boot of the OS. Customers installing
Windows from a USB flash drive or ISO image while not connected to the Internet get the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver with limited functionality. Customers are encouraged to install Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL)-certified third-party drivers
from Windows Update, OEM, or independent hardware vendor (IHV) websites when available.
Now, I thought of an idea. I thought that if replaced that Microsoft Basic Display Adapter which is in Windows 8.1 with that in Windows 8 (Intel HD Graphics 4000 Microsoft Corporation WDDM 1.2) The issue might be fixed.
So I reverted back to Windows 8 and used DriverMax to make a backup of the graphics driver.
Now, I reverted back to Windows 8.1 and used that DriverMax software to restore that graphics driver which was pre-installed in Windows 8 but still the issue isn't fixed. :(
I am sure the issue that causes this black flicker on screen when switching back to the Main theme and then closing down the
Personalization window isn't related to the graphics hardware or the driver.
I am pretty sure Windows is causing this.
I think you should get a fix to this please, work on a fix for this flicker that happen when switching themes I am pretty sure the other issue that causes flicker on my open window when clicking inside it and outside it will fade away.

  • Display issues in XP with Firefox

I just installed Firefox browser to an old XP machine. I am having display issues: sideways lines and "double vision" even on the home page. I know I have an old video card. That has caused sideways lines in videos before. This is a computer my husband uses and loves! I know its a dinosaur. Besides videos in kids programs, I never have had any display problems just browsing the web. And I can watch YouTube videos just fine in my other browsers.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
