Display progress bar during silent install?

Hello everybody,
as the silent installation takes up to several minutes, it would be useful to display a progress bar during the installation. Is there a parameter which allows to enable such a progess window during the installation?
Thanks for any ideas.

The progress bar means the system is Auto booting to Safe Mode, not a good sign.
The reasons it is Auto Booting into Safe mode can vary but more then likely it is either a hard drive problem, failing hard drive, or a corrupted hard drive. I would save all your personal files, data, to an external drive and start over by erasing the complete drive and reinstalling the OS and all your programs. Then copy your data back to the drive. If it happens again then it means the drive is starting to fail and needs to be replaced.

  • Progress bar during upload....

    Hi guys,
    i'm a question....
    i've developed an upload function in my jsf application using Myfaces component FileUpload.
    It works very well.
    My question is:does exists something i can add to my upload function to view a progress bar during upload without using Ajax component that gives me some problems?
    Thanks very much

    iloveflex,
    why not use the progress event of the FileReference object?
    Have a look at the Adobe language help for FileReference and you
    will see that the one-line help for this event is "Dispatched
    periodically during the file upload or download operation". The
    example code at the end of that help article gives an example of
    using this event to print out bytes so far and total bytes in the
    trace window. You should be easily able to adapt this to display in
    some other way sutiable for your users.

  • Displaying Progress Bar

    Hello,
    I want to display progress bar based on the bytes received from socket.  The tutorials and examples show only image loading.  Is it possible to display progress bar based on bytes received for socket.  If so, can anyone tell me how to do it?
    var total_bytes:Number=0;
    public function bytesReceived(event:ProgressEvent):void
           var bytes_received = event.bytes.loaded;
           total_bytes = bytes_received + total_bytes;
    Thanks

    Use SwingWorker, which is not included in Swing library, but you can find it on http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/components/example-swing/SwingWorker.java;
    see alse http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/components/progress.html.

  • Linking in progress doesn't respond during silent install of oracle db 10g

    I performed all required settings for installing oracle database 10g on my remote server (redhat), I set the values of the response file for a silent install of enterprise edition.
    The installation works fine till the prompt says --- Linking in progress .
    then it takes a very long time without saying anything else, i checked /oraInventory for the log files, but there is no log for the silent install, which might mean that there is no error reported and that the connection or the shell application I am using (putty) has lost connection or something like that.
    I tried re-installation many times, but it still stops at the same step, the putty status bar says inactive later on, i then realize that there is no connection or some other failure.
    What can I do to fix this?

    you are welcome, unfortunately you didn't mark this thread as a question so no stars for me .
    Nervermind, herewith the feedback on your questions :
    Should I make a dbca.rsp ? how would I pass it to my install command line?
    In silent mode, DBCA uses values that you specify in the response file or as command-line options to create a database. DBCA does not display any screens or information while it creates the database. It logs all messages (including information, errors, and warnings) in a log file.
    From the command line, enter the following command to see all of the DBCA options that are available when you use the silent mode:
    $ @ora_root:[bin]dbca.com -help
    Read more in that document : http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B13681_01/a_nonint.htm#CIHDHHBE
    I tried: ps -efd | grep -i run , alot of process appeared, how would I know if the installer is among them?
    try to grep with a much longer name i.e :
    ps -efd | grep -i runinstaller
    What is fuser * in the log directory ? is this a file I should create or what?
    No fuser is a unix/linux command that enable you to identify processes using a file or file structure. The fuser utility displays the process IDs of the processes that are using the files specified as arguments.
    So if the runinstaller still active you will see i.e.
    fuser silentInstall2008-08-08_10-50-48AM.log
    silentInstall2008-08-08_10-50-48AM.log: 14506o
    14506 is your process ID
    Hope this helps you!

  • Powerhsell progress bar during an operation

    Hi,
    Id like to try and use the progress bar features from
    New-Object
    System.Windows.Forms.ProgressBar
    but I can't find any examples on how to use this during an operation.
    I have a command which I use to create a CSV file with various user information..
    Get-QADUser -sizelimit 0 | export-csv c:\pathtocsv.csv
    what i'd like to do is get the progress bar to be displayed in a separate form whilst the operation from get-qaduser is performed.
    any help appreciated - thanks

    Hi Denis,
    your progress-bar form has a property named value (which takes an integer value. Set it to 40 and you get 40% progress on your bar).
    The thing is, in order to calculate the percentage you are at, you need to know the maximum number, the current number
    and find a way to write it during runtime.
    And if I tried it, my boss would tell me to spend my time more usefully (If he caught me at it, that is).
    Good luck if you go for it (and if there's a simple way that has eluded me: I'll be happy to learn a bit more :) )

  • How to display progress bar

    In the AIUserSuite there is not a way to display the progress bar, seached everywhere and found nothing.
    Please help!

    Is that something you can share?
    I'm afraid not. Even if I were allowed to, it wouldn't be much use -- it's built on a ton of internal stuff
    I think you're on the right track with just doing it manually. Throwing up a simple progress window isn't too bad; the only pain is in the flags, to make it semi-modal. The rest is very straight forward.

    hi all,
        I have an application in which, when i execute the RFC it is taking time to get the data. So it is displaying a white screen for the user untill the data is retrieved from the backend.

  • Displaying progress bar while components load

    I'm going to display a JTree that's quite huge (takes time to load; I need to get the info as XML from a server, etc.)
    So, I want to display a JProgressBar while it is loading.
    My plan was to use a cardlayout, and show the panel with the progress bar until the tree was loaded and then do a .show("tree") on the main panel with the card layout.
    However, this does not seem to work. Nothing is displayed before the tree is loaded ...
    Any suggestions on best ways to do this?
    Here's my class so far:
    public class HierarchyJTree extends JPanel {
        private static Logger logger = Logger.getLogger(HierarchyJTree.class);
        private JProgressBar progress;          // keep track on progress
        private TreeMap idmap = new TreeMap(); // to map nodes created up against their id's; needed to create the tree structure when we have a parent id and want the node
        private dataAccess access = dataAccess.getInstance();
        private JTree tree;
        private CardLayout card = new CardLayout();
        private int maxProgress = 20;
         * Construct a new JTree. Collect the category information from the database.
        public HierarchyJTree() {
            this.setLayout(card);
            JPanel progressPanel = new JPanel();
            progress = new JProgressBar(0,maxProgress);
            progressPanel.add(progress);
            this.add(progressPanel, "progress");
            card.show(this,"progress");
        public void startCollectingData() {
            progress.setValue(2);
            ResultSet rs = access.sendXML("<request>\n<runQuery>getCategories</runQuery>\n</request>");
            progress.setValue(10);
            tree = new JTree(new DefaultMutableTreeNode("Categories", true));
            tree.getSelectionModel().setSelectionMode(TreeSelectionModel.SINGLE_TREE_SELECTION);
            JPanel treePanel = new JPanel(new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.LEFT));
            treePanel.add(tree);
            this.add(treePanel, "tree");
            addFromResultSetToTree(rs);
            card.show(this, "tree");
         * Constructor that will use incomming ResultSet to create the tree, instead of contacting
         * the server to get a new one
         * @param resultset containing the category info from MOD_category
        public HierarchyJTree(ResultSet resultset) {
            this.setLayout(card);
            tree = new JTree(new DefaultMutableTreeNode("Categories", true));
            BasicConfigurator.configure();
            tree.getSelectionModel().setSelectionMode(TreeSelectionModel.SINGLE_TREE_SELECTION);
            addFromResultSetToTree(resultset);
         * This will take a jaxb.ResultSet object containing ID, categoryName and parentID of all the
         * categories in the database, and add them as Nodes in the JTree this class represents.
         * @param r the jaxb.ResultSet object
        private void addFromResultSetToTree(ResultSet r) {
             // code to load the info into the tree here, and inc the progress
                progressValue += incValue;
                progress.setValue((int)Math.round(progressValue));
    }

  • No Progress Bar during file transfering

    Hey everyone,
    I'm using MAc 10.5.8 and when I transfer data, the progress bar is not appearing anymore. Is there any way that i might have accidentally deleted files for that by using CleanMyMac and if so is there any way to get the progress bar back?
    Thanks in advance!

    One thing you could try is to reboot in Safe Mode:

  • No progress bar during audio encoding

    Since the lack of a progress bar causes many users to think that iDVD has frozen (and forces us to resort to look into the package contents to see if this is the case,) I think that anyone who has had this problem should post a feedback enhancement request to Apple so they realize how important a feature this is.

    I filed a report and I'll bet a lot of other Apple users have filed a report. In Dec. 2005, Apple released a bulletin on this encoding problem - their solution was to just wait it out.
    A recent post in this forum indicated that the person called Apple Care and received the standard answer - wait it out.
    In case you haven't read the other posts, you can do one of the following:
    1. From iMovie - export as a Quicktime movie, then reload into a new iMovie project OR.
    2. Export iMovie to a video camera and then reload back into a new iMovie project.
    These work arounds combine the added audio to the existing video clips so when you reinsert the movie into iMovie, audio and video are combined. Then insert chapter markings, export to iDVD and you'll have your burned DVD in an hour or less - depending on your Mac's horsepower.

    I have one physical harddrive that contains 3 logical partitions: One is of course the Macintosh HD (HFS+), one for data (HFS+), and one Bootcamp (FAT32) partition.
    What have I tried so far:
    When booting into Single User mode I ran the fsck (and fsck_hfs) command which quits after 3 unsuccessfull attempts. The only error message shown is
    "Incorrect Number Of Thread Records (4, someNumber)". I tried this at least 10 times now and the behaviour is always the same, except from the number shown in the thread records message.
    When booting into the recovery partition disk utility shows me the 3 partitions on my HD but shows the Macintosh HD greyed out. When checking the HD it finished without problems, when just checking the Macintosh HD it aborts with an error. Same applies when I try to fix the partition.
    I tried to reinstall Mac OS but the Macintosh HD is not shown in the target disks for installation. I also tried to repartition the disk without any success.
    What's odd about this issue:
    First of all, I can boot into Windows (BootcamP) without any issues and work there.
    Also, when in singel user mode, I can run the 'du' command which shows me all files on my Macintosh HD so the partition itself still sems to be intact.
    What might be a solution:
    I've have come along some comments that said DiskWarrior could fix more issues then Disk Utility but I not yet there to spend 100+ € for it.
    Any other suggestions from you on how to get Mac OS back to work would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks for your replies and proposed solutions. Unfortunately none of them worked.
    @Alberto: Pressing the "D" button upon startup, does not launch the hardware test. Actually nothing realy happens for approx. 60 seconds before the machine starts the boot volume.
    @Linc: I'm not able to erase the OS X boot volume as disk utility tells me it's missing it's mount point.
    @romainst: As far as I remember I was still under 10.8.2. So far I have tried to repair the OS X partition at least 25 times without any changes or a chance to get this thing mounted.
    I wouldn't mind erasing the Mac OS partition and reinstalling it as it only holds systems files and some applications that I could easily reinstall. Still the machine is preventing me from doing so as it will not let me mount this partition. This is becoming increasingly frustrating as the only way out seems to erase the entire HD and start over from scratch - if this is possible at all. Despite the time wasted I would also loose some of my data on the respective partition as I don't have a backup for the entire data partition.
