Displaying strings in a table from boolean alarms.

Hello all.  I have been using Labeled 8.5 now for about 6 months.  I absolutely love NI because of all the support and forum discussion that exists compared to other software makers I have used in the past.
Here is my concern.  I have been giving the task of updating this old system and its software to LabVIEW.  What I do is read about 100 alarm bits from a PLC.  Each alarm will have a string attached describing what the alarm is in plain english.  What I need to do using LabVIEW is then display numerous things.  If no alarms are triggered, then nothing will be shown.  If an alarm has been triggered (boolean), show the alarm code (string), the string describing it (string), if it is still triggered (boolean), has it been acknowledged (boolean), a date stamp, and a time stamp. 
Now what I am stuck on.  I have spent a few weeks trying to come up with a logical way of doing this other than having 100 boolean icons on my front panel.  I have an ok grasps on LV but not a real indepth one (so many features for me).  The time stamp will show when the alarm was first triggered and not change after that.  When an alarm is triggered, you have the option to acknowledge it.  If the alarm was then acknowledged and the alarm is no longer going off, it will disappear off the screen.  Likewise it would stay on if acknowledged but the bit is still triggered. 
My most recent idea was to build a table by combining all the strings together into an array and displaying it like that.  If not triggered, it would pass blank through the array thus not showing anything.  I then became stuck on though the acknowledge feature.  I wanted to have it so that you could click the alarm boolean on the table and it would pop up a second VI asking if you wanted to acknowledge.  Then I realized that since the boolean is going to be turned into a string to be displayed on the table, you couldn't just click on it to open up that specific boolean. 
Basically I am asking if there is an easier way to do this other than what I have been thinking of?  For what I know of LabVIEW software, I feel that it wasn't really built to do this tasks, but that won't help me get it done, lol.  I want some form of a table to be on the frontpage, without a ton of clutter.  Something that if no alarm is going off, it would leave the screen pretty blank actually other than maybe for table headers.  Chaos of the code itself is not that big of a deal.  Thanks for taking the time to read this posts either way.

Hi Drez,
An array of clusters, with the cluster having a string and a
Boolean, will enable you to display the alarm string and provide a way for the
user to click on the Boolean to acknowledge. Check the attached VI. Click on “Simulate
Alarms” and then click on any of the “Acknowledge” button. It should display a
dialog box.
I made an half attempt at simulating this, but you get the idea

  • Importing internal table from one program to another program

    Hi everybody,
    i have one small doubt.
    i am using submit statement and passing the values from this program to another program selection screen. in that program logic is written.In that program one internal table values are being exported to the memory id of that program. now i have to import that internal table values into my program by using import statement. i am using the following syntax
    import itab from menory id 'program name'.
    but i am getting an error saying program name is unknown.
    what is the exat syntax for this .

    Of course it is possible to create a table from attributes of more than one node, and in some cases this is still necessary, but you have to do this the hard (manual) way.
    If you have a table control, have a look at the properties and the elements belonging to it.
    First of all, there is the property "dataSource", which binds to a multiple node (let's name it TableRootNode). This means that for each element of THIS node, one row is created. In each row the data of exactly one element of this TableRootNode is displayed.
    Then you have columns in this table. Inside of the columns there is a header and an editor. The editor is the interesting part.
    Normally the primary property of this editor is bound to an attribute of the TableRootNode. Then everything works as expected. If it binds to an attribute of a subnode (SUB) of TableRootNode, then in row i the data of the subnode of the i-th element of TableRootNode is displayed. There is no need for SUB to be a multiple node, but it must not be a singleton.
    If you bind a property of the editor to an attribute, which does not lie in the subtree of TableRootNode, then you will see the same value in each row.
    Now it depends on the structure of your context. Take the node, which is relevant for the change in each row (I assume it is TRIPS) and bind the table to the node as you are used to. Then for each additional column, you have to create a new column in the tree, create a new header element with a title and a new editor (e.g. textview or inputfield) and then bind the right property of the editor to the corresponding attribute in node AMOUNTS).
    If these 2 nodes do not have parent-child-relationship, the tip to create a new node, which consists of the attributes of both nodes is the only solution.

  • Problems with displaying tables from windows software in Powerpoint

    I have been having some problems with powerpoint presentations that include tables from specific windows software. These tables were produced with the software package called SPSS for windows. The font that's used for these tables is Tahoma. The powerpoint presentations were made on a windows operated computer where the tables were pasted into the slides as pictures.
    When opening these presentations on my MacBook these tables are presented in a way that is impossible to read. The tables are mostly empty while some unclear symbols are inconsitently divided over the table. The original table existed out of a combination between text in the first row and collom and numbers in the other cells.
    Has anybody had any experience with this problem or something similar? Any suggestions on what to look for when trying to solve this problem?

    I am need to insert data into a table from  the text file. I pull the data into an internal table using GUI_UPLoad. I read the data into an internal table and concatenate data into a string. I need to do this because the structure of the table is dynamic. it is used to upload a series of tables each with different structure, But the data is stored in the string v_tabledata.  How to do that.
    after uploading the data  from the textt file into a table

      concatenate i_final-table_rec1 i_final-table_rec2 i_final-table_rec3
                  i_final-table_rec4 i_final-table_rec5 into v_tabledata.

    Let me see if I've understood your issue
    You have a file to be uploaded into an internal table but this file has many different layouts and then you don't know how to link these fields with the internal table...is it your issue?
    Then you've read the internal table, you've sent it to a string divided by space or something else and then are you trying to read this string to send it to a table?
    We could read the standard tables which maintain the program names, table names etc... (DD* tables, as the DD03L table) and then create some rules...
    We could create a parameter table to read your file/table dynamically...
    Please, try to rewrite in other words your problem...because there are a lot of ways to achieve your issue...

  • Populate a table from a file field

    hi guys im having headaches acheiving this, basically what i want is the following
    A user can use a file field to browse for a file. Once selected the value will display in the file text field.
    Then i want an add button that when clicked will add the file location to a string variable and display it in a table below. every time a new file is added the table should update.
    Finally on submit all file names should be submitted so that i can use them on another page using getattribute.
    I cant get it to work any help would be appreciated.

    yeah, sorry basically ive created a jsp page and
    inserted the file field and its browsing but im a bt
    stumped as to what to do from there.Whatever it is you have to do, I doubt it has anything to do with Java. I think IE lets you edit a table tag on the fly using Javascript, but otherwise I'm pretty sure you're hosed. Use a text area instead. And go ask at a Javascript forum.

  • NEED HELP... Creating dynamic table from data file...

    Hi
    I'm writing an application for data visualization. The user can press the "open file" button and a FileChooser window will come up where the user can select any data file. I would like to take that data file and display it as a table with rows and columns. The user needs to be able to select the coliumns to create a graph. I have tried many ways to create a table, but nothing seems to work! Can anyone help me?! I just want to read from the data file and create a spreadsheet type table... I won't know how many rows and columns I'll need in advance, so the table needs to be dynamic!
    If you have ANY tips, I'd REALLY appreciated.....
