Dissapearing letters in forms fields

After creating a multi-record block displaying 12 records I added a text item that only displays one item per record. If an item (the text item in my case) has a different number of records displayed as defined within the block properties (block = 12, text-item = 1) then the first character entered into the text field must be entered twice before it is displayed. You can see the character being written and then being immediately removed! My version of forms (Forms [32 Bit] Version 6.0.8.16.1 (Production))
Thanks in advance!

It is some sort of bug.
I encountered that problem in forms recently, too. I had a multi-record block with some items' "Number of Items Displayed" property set to 1. And by the way, I had also set the background color of the canvas. On the singly-occurring fields, the first character entered was erased.
Metalink said they would report it as a bug, and then found a workaround: Instead of directly setting the canvas background color, assign the canvas to a visual attribute, and change the background of the visual attribute. Doing this got rid of the disappearing character.
Go figure...

  • When printing a document with form fields certain letters don't print

    Hi everyone.
    I am from Iceland and we use special letters in our language (i.e.: þ,æ,ö,ð). I have made a pdf file that has form fields in it, but when they have been filled out with our special letters, those letters do not print out correctly.
    Here is an example with my name filled out in the form field:
    When I print, this is the result:
    Can anyone help me with this issue?

    Just some thoughts: 1. Be sure the fonts are embedded in the file. 2. Print as a graphic (you may have a printer that does not have the fonts and is not getting the proper results from the computer).

  • Making a form, why does the text type over top of itself in the form field?

    Hi, I am making a certificate form for a client to fill out and print when needed. I designed everything in InDesign, exported to pdf, and made a form field for Old English MT for the name and date. When I close the form editing window and type a name in the allocated spot, the letters type on top of each other, not left to right like normal. I am working on a mac, client is on a pc.

    Yes its possible it happens when there is a Duplicate Field on top of itself. I helped someone last year that had several fields that were duplicated.
    Open Acrobat.
    Go to tools menu
    Choose Forms.
    Click on Edit.
    Click the field(s) that appear to have duplicated text.
    If your keyboard has arrow keys click on the field then use arrow key to move to left, right, up, or down. If field shows underneath is not moved, delete the field selected.
    Repeat as needed.

  • Reader hides filled in text in form fields

    Hi,
    I made a form for a client in Indesign and saved in Acrobat > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features.
    When opening in the Reader it hides filled in text in form fields. Only a click in the field will show the text. I want the filled in text be shown as you should expect. Like for example Apple's Preview does. When printing all the text is printed but on first view all the text seems to have dissapeared. Can somebody point out to me where I go wrong?
    I hope somebody can help me out.

    If the form was ever opened and saved with Preview, it is the likely culprit here. Preview corrupts PDF forms in a number of ways when it saves them. For more information, see: http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/885/cpsid_88564.html

  • Dissapearing text in forms

    I have noticed that, on many occassions, my text will dissapear from my forms and I have to click on those text fields (now empty) to get text to reappear (this typically happens when going into Preview mode, but can happen if I save the form and view it outside Livecycle).
    I found a fix for this a while back, but have since had to reinstally everything on a new system (and subsequently can't remember what I did). It had something to do with a simple configuration setting in LiveCycle (but definatly not a scripting project) <Grin>... Can anyone help?
    Acrobat X
    LiveCycle ES2 9

    It is not possible to ommit pages when exporting. One thing that you can try that might be useful is in the View Responses Tab print the Detail View of the row instead (File > Detail View. The print button is at the bottom of the the detail view).
    This will not print the instructional text but only the field/value pairs.
    This will print all the text per field (no need to scroll to see the full text of a long value)
    Hope this helps

  • FORMS & FIELDS

    New to Acrobat. Have ver 9 professional. In forms I have discovered how to take a PDF document and let the program define the fields where there are predetermined lines which are designed to fill in answers. However, what about when a question on the form call for an entry of  a whole paragraph to be typed in. How do I do this?
    If I make a field that is large enough to accommodate say a half dozen lines. Acrobat only allows me to type very large letters in that field. How do I revise the field so that I can accommodate a paragraph of many lines? Help would be deeply appreciated. Details. Remember I am new in this world.
    Jerry_B

    Hi Jerry,
    First, you need to be in the Advanced Editing mode. If it's not already displayed, select the View > Toolbars> Advanced Editing menu item. From the Advance Editing toolbar click the Select Object tool (arrow icon that points to the upper left). When you are in Advanced Editing mode right mouse click on the text field and select Properties from the pop-up menu. Select the Options tab on the Text Field Properties dialog. Finally, select the Multi-line checkbox.
    I hope that helps,
    Steve

  • Bogus web form field entry

    In my secure zone areas that have web forms I find Random letters in web form fields from persons who are not prviding required info in fields.
    Is there a way to validate web form entry in certain fields?

    Hi Will,
    When you form a web form in BC when you tick that it is required that is added to the javascript that is at the bottom of the form. That only stops if it is empty or not.
    To have validation on fields that is more advanced you need to look to use something like this:

  • Assigning a form field to a variable in XSL in rtf template

    Hi,
    I have this code:
    <?xdoxslt:set_variable($_XDOCTX, 'x', 0)?>
    <?if:_-Basic._Total_Jobs_=''?>0<?end if?>
    <?xdoxslt:set_variable($_XDOCTX, 'x', -Basic_._Total_Jobs_ )?>
    <?xdoxslt:get_variable($_XDOCTX, 'x')?>
    This code is supposed to be initialising a variable and a form field if it's null, and
    then assigning the form field value to the variable. But I am not getting
    any value from the get_variable function.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    - Jenny

    I figured it out. The bind variable substitution works as designed. It was just my head that wasn't working right.

  • How can I add form field value to the file name in save as dialog box

    I do not want the form to be saved automatically, just want the form to auto populate the "file name" only.
    A little background on the forms I want to use:  My company has 70 retail outlets, I'll use one of our pdf forms called an "Incident Report" as an example.  I would like for a store manager to be able to complete the form, then email the form to the main office (I already have javascript to add field values and form name to the email subject line), once the main office receives it, I want for them to be able to file the pdf electronically on our server.  We have mutliple forms that we use so I do not want any of the forms to automatically save anywhere, (at this time anyway) I just want the office personnel to be able to click "save as" (or whatever they will need to click) and the form automatically add certain field values from the pdf they have received, of which will be different each time the form is sent to the office (Date, store #, employee name etc.) in addition to the name of the form in the "File name" of the "Save As" dialog box.  The main office employees will decide into which server file the pdf should be saved.
    I'm using Acrobat 8 professional, the stores and office personnel use Adobe reader.
    One little note:  We currently print and file a lot of paper on a daily bases, as soon as I can get this to work, we are going green.
    Me and a lot of trees in this will really apprecitate any help you can give with this!  :-)

    You might want to take a look at the document "Developing Acrobat Applications Using JavaScript" (js_developer_guide.pdf) which is part of the Adobe Acrobat SDK, which can be downloaded here. Read the "Privileged versus non-privileged context" (p. 45ff.). You will find an example for "Executing privileged methods in a non-privileged context". Should be almost exactly what you are looking for.
    Small Outline: For security reasons ("the user always has to know what's going on") you are not allowed to use the "Doc.saveAs"-method without the user permission (--> in a non-privileged context). In order to reach the goal of a privileged context you can use a trusted function. You do this by creating a JavaScript file (*.js) in either the Application-JavaScript-Folder (default location on Windows systems: "%ProgramFiles%\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Javascripts") or the User-JavaScript-Folder (default location on Windows systems: "%AppData%\Adobe\Acrobat\10.0\JavaScripts"). Add the following content to the new file:
    myTrustedBrowseForDoc = app.trustedFunction( function ( oArgs ) {
         app.beginPriv();
              var myTrustedRetn = app.browseForDoc( oArgs );
         app.endPriv();
         return myTrustedRetn;
    myTrustedSaveAs = app.trustedFunction( function ( doc, oArgs ) {
         app.beginPriv();
              var myTrustedRetn = doc.saveAs( oArgs );
         app.endPriv();
         return myTrustedRetn;
    The developer guide actually wants you to add this content to the existing "config.js" file. I recommend creating a new file, since its easier to deploy in a network. Either way, every client/user who needs to be able to save documents this way, needs this JavaScript Code in his Application/User-JavaScript-Folder.
    Within the Acrobat Document, which you want to obtain a certain file name, you can now use the trusted functions "myTrustedBrowseForDoc" and "myTrustedSaveAs" to store the file. To call the trusted functions and deliver the file name you can either you use a form field (button) or you add a new menu item. Add the following JavaScript Action to the button/menu item and change "Roller Coaster" to the name of the field which contains the value which you want to become the new file name:
    var fileName = this.getField("Roller Coaster").valueAsString;
    try {
         var oRetn = myTrustedBrowseForDoc({bSave: true, cFilenameInit: fileName + ".pdf"});
         try {
              myTrustedSaveAs(this, { cPath: oRetn.cPath, cFS:oRetn.cFS });
         catch(e) {
              console.println("Save not allowed, perhaps readonly.");
    catch(e) {
    console.println("User cancelled Save As dialog box");
    Good Luck!

  • Using javascript to save a pdf to a different directory and generating a new filename based on form fields in the document.

    I have built the following script in an attempt to create a submit button that will automatically save the document in a different directory on my computer. It will also use the form field data "customer" and "date" to generate the filename. I printed out the variable myPath and it looks like it printed the correct string. I keep getting the following error:
    TypeError: redeclaration of const path
    any help would be much appreciated.
    var customer = this.getField("Customer").value;
    var date = this.getField("Date").value;
    var path = "C:/Users/awilliams/My Documents/Test/"
      var reg = date.match(/(\d+)\/(\d+)\/(\d+)/);
    var myPath= "C:/Users/awilliams/My Documents/Test/" + customer + "_" + reg[1] + "." + reg[2] + "." +
    reg[3] + ".pdf";
    this.saveAs(myPath);

    "path" is a keyword within a PDF you should not use keywords as a name for any other object as a general rule.
    Have you checked the PDF Reference to see how to create a file path name within a PDF,  3.10.1 File Specification Strings page 118?
    Did you carefully read the Acrobat JavaScript Reference for the saveAs method?
    The notes following the description:
    Note: This method can only be executed during a batch or console event. See Privileged versus non-privileged context for details. The event object contains a discussion of JavaScript events.
    (Adobe Reader S): This method is available in Adobe Reader for documents that have Save usage rights.

  • Acrobat XI Windows 7 - unable to (copy and) paste form fields to a different pdf.

    To maintain a consistent appearance and function in the forms I create for various departments, I copy a few form fields  (text, checkboxes) from an unrelated Acrobat PDF. Then I paste those fields into a different PDF document that I am making fillable.
    I do this because Acrobat does not allow setting a default for certain attributes when creating form fields, i.e. an unchecked scroll option, a default font other than Helvetica (in Acrobat 8, 9, and X). Plus it is time-saving to copy and paste fields that are the same in another PDF, like name, address, phone. etc.
    We just updated to Acrobat XI and Windows 7 and now I cannot paste copied fields onto a different PDF.
    Using "replace pages" is not applicable as I am pasting to an entirely different form and copying form fields with the settings I use.
    Is this a glitch or is something new that was not in Acrobat 8, 9, and X?
    Also, question regarding this forum entry -  http://forums.adobe.com/message/5638333#5638333 - which is somewhat different from my current question.
    The PDF creator could not paste copied fields on other pages of the same PDF. Was this ever resolved so that copy and paste worked as it has for the last 3 versions of Acrobat?
    Thanks!
    Joanie

    Gilad:  You're right: when the fields are different, such as a checkbox and a text field, and you try to title them the same, Acrobat gives you a message. I received no messages, the field names are not the same or I missed one and Acrobat is no longer messaging about it.
    My question is different. Acrobat XI will not let me paste any field copied from a different PDF.  I've been doing that for 5 years in three different versions.  Maybe Acrobat XI has a new process for that, which I could not find in Acrobat help. Maybe it's because all forms now have extended rights automatically in Acrobat XI and there is another method to copy common fields to other PDFs.
    Any thoughts about the new Acrobat XI? It's different in many good ways, but different.
    Thanks for your ideas.

  • Upload multiple files WITH correct pairs of form fields into Database

    In my form page, I would like to allow 3 files upload and 3 corresponding text fields, so that the filename and text description can be saved in database table in correct pair. Like this:

  • Setting tab order to form fields contained within a table, Indesign CS6

    I have created a form in ID CS6, and have put all the tabs in order so that people can easily navigate it when filling it in. However, all of the form fields that are contained within tables are not in order, and I can't find any way of putting them in order without changing them in acrobat after I have made the interactive PDF. This means that every time my client makes changes to the form I have to manually put all the fields in order again, which is time consuming. Is anyone able to help?

    This tab order dialogue box is nearly useless if you have a complex form with hundreds of form fields as there is no way to interact with the document when the dialogue is open and clicking on an entry in the list does not highlight the respective field. Furthermore, if you have arrays of radio buttons, or check boxes acting like radio buttons, ie all with the same form field name, there's no way to know which order they should be arranged in since they can't be selected or identified while this dialogue is open!
    That is immensely frustrating to say the least.
    It's quite ridiculous that Adobe hasn't fixed this bug in years and this user interface is shockingly bad.

    what you need is flooting field in the running text. You can use as many flooting fields as you need in text. Focus in that direction.
