Hi,
I'm getting following error on one of my  Virtual Windows 2008 R2 server and have tried lots of solutions but still this event logging on my server.
The GUID mentioned in the event is related to Virtual Disk Service and I have verified all security permission  related setting in component services as well as in Windows Registry but no luck yet.
Please help to resolve this issue.
Following are the event details:

  • Help to create a SCOM Alert for same event ID on many Windows 2008 servers

    Hi all,
I 'm a newbie in SCOM and I need to create a alert with information type on 1 event ID on 2 servers. The Event ID is the same on both servers and I don't know which type of monitor I need to create. Can you help me please ?
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
First, should the server appear unhealthy if this event appears? If so, it should be a monitor. If not, it should be a rule (that will only give an alert).
Go to Authoring and Rules/Monitors. Set the scope to Windows Server. Create the Rule/Monitor and remove the "Enabled by default". In the event expression, use the parameters - these should be pretty straight forward.
Afterwards, override the rule/monitor for the two servers on which you wish to monitor this event.
This is pretty rough description, let me know if you need it more detailed.

  • Windows 2008 R2 backup fails with event 521 error code 2155348001

    Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.  Hyper-V role installed.
OS on drive C.  All VMs stored on Drive D.
I am attempting to run a Bare Metal backup of the host system to a network share.
Drive D is not included in the backup job.  I am getting the following error:

details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved.
Reviewing event details, as suggested, does not offer any solution.
I have tried the suggested solutions in other similar threads of increasing the timeout value with the registry entry.
    This does not work.
I have not tried reregistering the VSS writers manually, as the only links I have found are for server 2003/2008 (not R2) and explicitly state that they won’t work on higher versions of the OS, since they now utilize manifests and the manual procedure could
cause problems for those servers. Haven't found similar procedures for 2008 R2.
I have been able to narrow this down a bit.
    A Windows 2008 R2 SP1 server with Hyper-V installed – backup to a network share is successful;
Install the DPM 2012 agent – same backup fails with the 2155348001 error.
We use DPM 2012 to backup VMs, but DPM cannot perform a bare metal backup/restore of server and the 2012 version no longer has the DPMSRT feature.
I prefer to run Bare Metal Backup to a file server share.
    Stuck on this one.

    Hi,
The issue is related to DPM, I would suggest you ask for help from DPM forums:

The IP address that appears in source network address all belong to VPN clients. And it looks like its only happening with 4-5 IPs, all of which are VPN clients. These clients shouldn't be connecting to anything on this server, which is why its puzzling.
Our DC is Windows 2008 and the VPN server is another member server on the domain. I suspect the issue is at the client PCs since there are many other VPN clients connected that don't generate the event ID.
Can anyone tell what the issue might be?
    Thanks.

    Hi Rayminette,
There are multiple login sources that could possibly be generating the errors:
FTP logins - check your FTP log to see if login failures are showing up at the same time.
Logins via Basic Authentication over http or https (simple, but possibly dangerous, way to password-protect a web site).
    ASP scripts.
This logon type 8 indicates a network logon like logon type 3 but where the password was sent over the network in the clear text. Windows server doesn’t allow connection to shared file or printers with clear text authentication. The only situation
I’m aware of are logons from within an ASP script using the ADVAPI or when a user logs on to IIS using IIS’s basic authentication mode. In both cases the logon process in the event’s description will list advapi. Basic authentication is only dangerous
if it isn’t wrapped inside an SSL session (i.e. https). As far as logons generated by an ASP, script remember that embedding passwords in source code is a bad practice for maintenance purposes as well as the risk that someone malicious will view the source
code and thereby gain the password.
    Reference from:
What is the source of thousands of 4625 Logon Failure errors with Logon Type 8 (NetworkCleartext)?
    I hope this helps.

  • Event IDs 136 and 137 0x80000000000000 in System Log on Windows 2008 R2 Server, Exchange 2010 in Cluster

    Hi,
I'm having an issue with one of my exchange 2010 Servers. We had a power outage and upon recovery, I cannot start Services Net.Pipe Listener Adapter and Net.Tcp Listener Adapter (And thus cannot Start IIS and provide Exchange Client Services.) This is a

The System event log has lots of Event 136's and 137s on Ntfs with the keyword - 0x80000000000000 - The General Messages are: The default transaction resource manager on volume C: encountered an error while starting and its metadata was

The Net.Pipe Listener Adapter service depends on the Windows Process Activation Service service which failed to start because of the following error:

I have tried the "fsutil resource setautoreset true" fix without success.
Any ideas or direction would be much appreciated. Restoring this server will be extremely difficult.
    Thanks!

    We can close this question.
From an elevated prompt, I ran 'fsutil resource setautoreset true' and attempted to remove the files with .blf and regtrans-ms file extensions from C:\Windows\System32\config\TxR. but these files were locked by system processes. (They are also
tagged with the hidden file attrib so you may not see them at first)
So, I booted the system with a Windows 2008 R2 Install Disk, selected repair OS and selected the command prompt. I then performed a chkdsk /f c: and selected "Y" to unmount the drive. It made some repairs.
With the system booted from the install disk, and chkdsk executed, the locks were freed and I was able to delete the files from C:\Windows\System32\config\TxR.
Once the system rebooted, the services came back fine and everything was back to normal.

  • Event ID 1202 0x534 on Windows 2008 R2 member server

I'm getting the following error on two of my Windows 2008 R2 member servers, but not on my domain controllers. I've followed the instructions and found the account that is causing this issue. It's a local account in "logon as a service", but when
I run MMC.exe to remove the account it's not there. How can I resolve this?
Security policies were propagated with warning. 0x534 : No mapping between account names and security IDs was done. Advanced help for this problem is available
on http://support.microsoft.com. Query for "troubleshooting 1202 events". Error 0x534 occurs when a user account in one or more Group Policy objects (GPOs) could not be resolved to a SID. This error is possibly
caused by a mistyped or deleted user account referenced in either the User Rights or Restricted Groups branch of a GPO. To resolve this event, contact an administrator in the domain to perform the following actions: 1. Identify accounts that could not be resolved
to a SID: From the command prompt, type: FIND /I "Cannot find" %SYSTEMROOT%\Security\Logs\winlogon.log The string following "Cannot find" in the FIND output identifies the problem account names. Example: Cannot find JohnDough. In this case,
the SID for username "JohnDough" could not be determined. This most likely occurs because the account was deleted, renamed, or is spelled differently (e.g. "JohnDoe"). 2. Use RSoP to identify the specific User Rights, Restricted Groups,
and Source GPOs that contain the problem accounts: a. Start -> Run -> RSoP.msc b. Review the results for Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment and Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security
Settings\Local Policies\Restricted Groups for any errors flagged with a red X. c. For any User Right or Restricted Group marked with a red X, the corresponding GPO that contains the problem policy setting is listed under the column entitled "Source GPO".
Note the specific User Rights, Restricted Groups and containing Source GPOs that are generating errors. 3. Remove unresolved accounts from Group Policy a. Start -> Run -> MMC.EXE b. From the File menu select "Add/Remove Snap-in..." c. From
the "Add/Remove Snap-in" dialog box select "Add..." d. In the "Add Standalone Snap-in" dialog box select "Group Policy" and click "Add" e. In the "Select Group Policy Object" dialog box click the
"Browse" button. f. On the "Browse for a Group Policy Object" dialog box choose the "All" tab g. For each source GPO identified in step 2, correct the specific User Rights or Restricted Groups that were flagged with a red X in
step 2. These User Rights or Restricted Groups can be corrected by removing or correcting any references to the problem accounts that were identified in step 1.

    Good evening,
The issue here is that there is a group policy pushing to that machine that is setting either user rights or restricted groups and it's trying to place a user account that no longer exist in Active Directory.
To resolve this, you need to find the GPO that is applying to your machine and remove the account that is shown in SID format.
If you have the permissions, you can run RSoP.msc to identify what GPOs are being applied.  If you drill down in your results to "Computer Settings->Windows Settings->Security Settings->Restricted Groups" You'll most likely find the issue there.
-If you have found my posts to be helpful, or the answer, please mark this appropriately.  Thank you.

  • Windows 2008 failover clustering fails with Event ID 1205 1069 1558

I have a two nodes Windows 2008 and SQL 2008 cluster running in active\passive.  I was restarting
my nodes after applying windows update then I received the following error message below within Failover Cluster Manager. I get errors with Event ID 1205 1069 1558  this happens every month ..  Could someone help me on to find the root cause for
this issue how to check if it is an issue with network or Quorum drive  ?

First, take a look at the 1069 event. This should point out which resource is failing.
Then, open a command prompt and run the command: cluster log /g
This will generate a cluster.log file that you can use to further troubleshoot this issue. The log file will be located in the C:\Windows\Cluster\Reports folder.
The cluster.log will be based on GMT time, so you may need to translate this to the local time zone in order to find the events you are looking for. Look for ERR or WARN messages and these should hopefully give you more insight as to why the resource is
    failing.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi,
I'm running an Exchange 2010 SP1 DAG on Windows 2008 R2 SP1.  We are using an INFOBLOX appliance for DNS resolution.
DNS resolution is working and SRV records are created.
On one of the two clusternodes I get warning 1579 and error 1196 every 15 minutes.  After looking around on the internet and technet, I found kb 977158 stating the problem and resolution.  However this hotfix is not applicabel on Windows

How can I resolve these annoying events?

The cluster name resource which has been added to the DNS prior to setup active passive cluster ( or any type) need to be updated by the Physical nodes on behalf of the resource record itself. When the active node owns the resources it want to update the
A record in the DNS database and DNS record which was created won’t allow any authenticated user to update the DNS record with the same owner
    Solution:
Delete the existing A record for the cluster name and re-create it and make sure select the box says “Allow any authenticated user to update DNS record with the same owner name “Don’t worry about breaking anything , this has “ZERO”
impact to cluster simply delete the A record and re-create as it is suggested here.

  • Windows 2008 R2 not registering logon events to 2003 RDP sessions

    Hi,
I have few windows 2008 R2 terminal servers which I use to RDP into other 2008/2003 servers.
The audit policy for logon/logoff event for success of failure is setup for all servers via group policy.
I've noticed when I log on to any 2003 server from 2008 terminal server there is no logon/log off event generated on the 2008 server.  There is related events on 2003 servers. This does not happen when I log on to 2008 servers from 2008 server.
there is a related event created on both side.
Any idea why there is no even created for 2008 to 2003 rdp sessions?
    Thanks in advance

when pre-authentication is used, events are registered on both ends: client, when pre-authentication occurs and server, when client is completely authenticated on the server.
    > on the 2008 terminal server when RDP into 2003 from 2008,
you should see, because starting with Windows Server 2008, RDP client always performs pre-authentication.

Have you checked the Print Service log in event viewer?
    Here's How.
I have the Microsoft XPS driver on my clients, so I use that fact to my advantage below.
Click Start Button/Administrative Tools/Remote Desktop Services/Remote Desktop Services Manager on the RDSH server
Click the Sessions tab.  PC’s are listed Under Client Name by their computer name.  Take Note of the corresponding
ID.  We will use this to locate the Printer information in the Event Log.
In the Event Log open Application and Services Logs/Microsoft/Windows/Print Service/Admin/ and Find the Event ID 823 entry that has the corresponding ID from the sessions tab you previously noted.
This Event Log Entry is created at Logon and you can only get the session ID when they are logged in.
This tells you what client printer was mapped for the client.  The name that appears is the name of the Printer that was set on the client when the printer was installed.
See if you see any errors here.
If you see Event Id 823 with the following message “The default printer was changed to Microsoft XPS Document Writer,winspool,Ne00:. See the event user data for context information.”  Twice in a row with no other messages in between, and the first occurs
at the time the user logged in, then their printer was not properly redirected.
You see the Microsoft XPS driver mapped for each session prior to Easy Print redirecting the client machine’s Default Printer.
Since your printer is the HP 1020 I would bet the driver on the client does not work with Easyprint.  I would try the  the HP Universal Print Driver or the driver for a printer that is very close, like the HP 1018.
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

The firewall is OFF in both client and server.
I saw a similar question and the answer is related to firewall which is not may case.

    Hi Mario,
According to your description, when you try to access the Report Manager in another client, a login dialog prompt. After typing a valid username and password 3 times, a blank page displays.
Generally, the issue is always caused by the Report Server is configured to use Kerberos authentication, while the Service Principal Name(SPN) is not configured correctly. To fix this issue, please refer to the following methods:
Register an SPN for the Report Server service under the domain user account.
Change the service account to run under a built-in account such as Network Service.
Remove RSWindowsNegotiate and ensure RSWindowsNTLM is specified in the rsreportserver.config file.
Besides, the issue can also be caused by the Internet Explorer (IE) didn't pass the user's credential to the Report Server automatically or the IE is not Windows Integrated enabled. For more detail steps about how to address this issue, please refer to the
    following steps:

  • Solaris nis client can't connect to Windows 2008 NIS Server across subnets

I have been using Microsoft Windows Server for NIS for years to centralize some accounts accessing Solaris and Linux OS.
Windows 2003 R2 Indentity Management for UNIX version of Server for NIS was last working version with Solairs.
After upgrading Domain to Windows 2008 all Solaris clients that are on different subnets fail to bind and connect to NIS servers now.
These servers already were setup using ypinit -c to manually add the NIS servers to connect to and prior to Windows 2008 this worked.
Now no Solaris nis clients on different subnets (no firewall between) can connect , but other Unix/Linux OS connect fine.
Is this a known issue and can we get a resolution as it seems only Solaris is affected?

    Hi Mid.Hudson-IT,
Before we begin ,we should ensure we have configured the printer server correctly .
Here is a link for reference of configuring the printer server .
Print server role: Configuring a print server
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc775791(v=ws.10).aspx
"I can map all of the printers on the network to the print server as-well as install the drivers correctly and I can resolve the IP and server name via DNS"
From this sentence ,I can`t figure out whether you have tried to ping the server both with the IP adress and name adress from the client ?
If we can ping the print server from the client,we can ensure the connection to the printer server is good .
Then we can try to install the printer driver directly to have a check .In the adress bar of Windows Explorer ,input "\\server name \the printer name"
If we cannot ping the print server ,we should troubleshoot the network issue firstly.
We also can check the event viewer for more information to troubleshoot this issue .
    Best regards
