Distributing jsp program with JRE

hi,
i have written a some jsp files for a small project and now i would like
to make a installation file which consists of my jsp files, including tomcat server and jre 1.5. As per license we cant distribute J2SDK package. So i am kept JRE instead of J2SDK. But tomcat server is not running, when i set my JAVA_HOME variable to JRE instead of J2SDK.
Is there any way to make tomcat run with JRE or any other suggestions.
thanx

Thanx to the excellent work done. Its working with
JRE. it seems you are the most active person in java
forums. You have about 6500 posts in your account.:-) Thanks. But most of my posts are off topic. I don't think I am really the most active person around, perhaps the most gabby is all :-)
i would like to assign you 10 duke dollars but
t couldn't find any link where i can do it. please
let me know how can i give you duke dollars. There should be a button next to my posts of a little green + sign. The image is broken though (yay Sun!) so you might not be able to see it (in FireFox it shows up as an invisible square, not sure what it shows in IE). Anyway, if you start with the date on one of my posts, and slowly move your mouse to the left you should find the link.
if
possible please give me your email ID or mail me at
[email protected]
Sorry, I don't like to trade email addresses across the forum. Mostly I like to keep the conversations public so everyone can benefit from them.

once again thanx for your help.

  • JSP programming with Tag Libraries like Struts.

    Hi friends,
I've been programming in JSP, JavaBeans for the last 1 year. However, with the current popularity of Tag Libraries & concepts like MVC, Struts am thinking of using these in JSPs. Even though I am not totally convinced about the real advantages like "No Java code" in JSP pages bcoz normally anyway most of the Java Code is done in the Javabean where my Business Logic is present.
If any of you have previously worked on Tag Libraries please would you advice me whether it's worth it and which books & material would be best for these.
    Thanking you in advacnce.
    Cheers
    Sanjiv

Based on my experience with using JSP tags, I would definitely strongly recommend them. If nothing else, application/project specific custom tags go a long way in facilitating development-time productivity and code maintenance.
And ofcourse, with JSP tags you get the added advantage of the JSP container maintaining pools of instantiated tag objects so even the runtime performance is helped.
The book Web Development with Java Server Pages by Duane K. Fields, Mark A. Kolb from Manning Publications has helped me a lot about JSP tags.
Sun's tutorial http://java.sun.com/j2ee/tutorial/doc/JSPTags.html is also good.

  • Distribute JDBC driver with our application

    thx.

You were REQUIRED to accept the license agreement prior to downloading the JDBC driver software. It is expected that you will actually READ the license agreement prior to accepting it.
Oracle Database 12c Release 1 JDBC Driver Downloads
You must accept the OTN License Agreement to download this software.
That license agreement CLEARLY answers your question so you should re-read it. You are bound by ALL of the terms but this is copied directly from that link:
    License Rights
We grant you a nonexclusive, nontransferable limited license to use the programs: (a) for purposes of developing, testing, prototyping and running applications you have developed for your own internal data processing operations; (b) to distribute the programs with applications you have developed to your customers provided that each such licensee agrees to license terms consistent with the terms of this Agreement, you do not charge your end users any additional fees for the use of the programs, and your end users may only use the programs to run your applications for their own business operations; and (c) to use the programs to provide third party demonstrations and training. You are not permitted to use the programs for any purpose other than as permitted under this Agreement. If you want to use the programs for any purpose other than as expressly permitted under this agreement you must contact us, or an Oracle reseller, to obtain the appropriate license. We may audit your use and distribution of the programs. Program documentation is either shipped with the programs, or documentation may accessed online at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/documentation/index.html.
Item (b) above begins with 'to distribute the programs . . .'
Yes - you can distribute the JDBC driver as long as you abide by that license agreement in its entirety (not just the quote I provided).
Any and all questions need to be directed to Oracle as noted in the License Agreement. No one on the forums can speak for Oracle.

  • Any problems running a program compiled with SDK 1.4.2_14 with JRE 1.4.2_08

    Hi,
Would there ever be a problem running a program compiled in Java 1.4.2_13 with JRE 1.4.2_08?
Why or why not? No guesses please.
    Thanks

No such hope. The alternative to testing is to review changes made to each version leading up to 14. This is spelled out in each version's Release Document. There are a lot of changes. Most will not affect your program. Each change is relatively well described, but your problem will be to decide if your program will be affected by the change.
Or, do nothing, hope like hell that nothing breaks, and have an up-to-date copy of your resume.
If someone came to me saying a program couldn't be tested, I'd have serious concerns for that person's future.

  • Why can't I run my Java program with just the JRE, the JDK is required?

I've recently written 3 programs in Java using the Netbeans IDE with JDK 1.6 as the default Java platform. The compile-time libraries include the Swing Application Framework. I use BuildDesk from ProductiveMe to package the each program into a Windows installer.
When I install the programs on a new computer without a JRE or JDK being present, and attempt to run them I get an error (as expected) stating that there is no JVM. The messages says that I need to install JDK 1.3 or higher. I downloaded the latest JRE onto the new computer and attempted to run the programs and I get the same error message. My question is, why can't I run these programs with just the JRE installed? Why do I need the JDK? When I install the JDK, the programs run fine. The typical user may not have the JDK on their system, but they likely have the JRE if they've run Java programs before.
Is the answer as simple as there must be library functions being used by the programs that belong to the JDK, but not the JRE? I'd rather a user not have to install the JDK verses the JRE because they may also have to update some Windows environment variables.
Thank you for any help on this issue.

    915088 wrote:
Thanks for your replies. I further investigated BuildDesk and found an option which allows a JVM check but that check needs the JDK. I stopped the JVM check and rebuilt using BuildDesk and it now only requires the JRE to run the programs. The reason why I use BuildDesk is to package more than just the jar file for the user. BuildDesk allows me to create a installation folder structure as well as include any other files in the build. I could just as well zipped all this together for the user but decided against that method.I don't think anyone will question your usage of an installer tool; that is entirely up to you. But what is questionable is that you have problems with that installer tool and then go look for help in a Java programming forum. The next time, go look for help at the source. If there is no way to acquire help (support, a forum, a mailinglist, anything) then that is a very good reason to not use the product in question.

  • Jar tool and distributing with jre

I want to be able to use the jar tool in software I'm supplying. I don't want my clients to have to install a java sdk just to use this - the jre is as much as I can ask them to install.
Firstly, is it technically possible to supply the jar.exe file to work with just the jre, or are there too many dependancies on sdk components?
Secondly, would I be violating Suns agreement by doing this?
    thanks.
    Steve

Do you want your clients to actually use the JAR tool themselves, or is your software just calling the JAR tool to run it?
You can do everything that the JAR tool does from a Java program with the classes in the package java.util.jar, so it's quite easy to write a Java program that handles JAR files, without needing jar.exe.
If you want to know if you're violating Sun's license agreements....: you'll have to read those license agreements very carefully.

  • Distributed programming with HTML DB?

    Hi!
Has anyone done any distributed programming with HTML DB? If so, are there any crucial factors to be taken into account?
I thought of extracting the original application, importing it into my DB, changing and creating pages, exporting the single pages and re-importing them into the original application.
I suspect that creating new pages will cause trouble, but what about changing existing ones? Can they be overwritten without any problems?
    Thanks for sharing your experiences!
    Sabine

    Sabine,
Do you want to make changes to you application only on a development machine then update production?
If so then you can make a new version of the application and simply import the entire application back into production. My personal preference is to pick a new application id for the updated application when I re-import. That way my current production app is sitting there unchanged. I then point users to the new version and update the proprieties of the old one to stop users running it (with a message to log into the new application) It also allows me to back out easily if there are problems.

  • Problem running JSP program on OAS 4.0.8.1 with JSP patch

    Hi all
I've been running a JSP application on OAS 4.0.8.1 for a month now, but a week ago, when I updated a Java package on the server, the application will no longer run. The simple JSP pages with no bean-tags runs fine, but the ones with bean-tags doesn't work anymore.
    This is the error message:

I've read on java.sun.com that verifyerrors normally is due to bad package-files, but I've rebuilt the package at least 10-times now, so thats probably not it. What could it be?
The application runs fine in JDeveloper 3.1

    Hi,
I am trying to run JSPs on OAS 4.0.8.1.
I have installed JSP patch, downloaded form olab.com
I am not able to execute JSPs. I am getting 2 different problems.
    1. If I call the JSP directly from browser, Netscape will ask for save option, it won't execute.
    2. If I call the JSP from another page with submit button, I am getting the following error :
The requested access method is not allowed for that object.
    Same error for any JSP.
The same problem for all the samples available with JSP patch.
    Hi chrholm,
I already tested for 1 month, so
could you please help me to configure OAS 4.0.8.1 for JSPs.
Could you please send me mail : [email protected]
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks,

I have the Java console open and after 10 seconds it closes and the applet becomes unresponsive. Usually when an applet crashes, some error messages show up in the console before it closes. That does not appear to happen in this case.
If I load a webpage with an applet (http://java.sun.com/applets/jdk/1.4/demo/applets/Fractal/example1.html) and then move to a non-applet webpage, and have the Java console up, it stays up (alive) for about a minute before it closes. In the case of my applet it closes much faster.
When I refresh, the second instance of the applet might be starting in the same process as the first process which is in the middle of closing (I am new to Java and JNI, so I might be using the wrong terminology). But with JRE 1.6.0.25 I was not seeing the crash on refresh. It manifested itself with the update to JRE 1.6.0.31
I did realize the codebase was wrong. This is what I have now:

  • Help needed in executing the java/jsp program from UCM .

    Hi ,
I have a .jsp program running in my Jdeveloper which when executed pops a window to browse and select files and with few custom options .
But i want to execute that Program from within UCM (create a new jsp page in UCM OR provide link ? i am not sure .... ) , could anyone help on how i can execute/run the program from UCM ?
    thanks in Advance
    Plaxman

If your jsp makes use of jars you may want to look into using a WAR instead. You can check the WAR into content server and there is even a link on the administration page for JSP Web App Admin. Treating the JSP(s) and jar(s) as an entity may be a more successful path for you.
You can find some jsp examples and ever a war example in this directory: <install root>\samples\JspServer
And the briefest of help about that stuff here: [http://localhost/idc/help/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm|http://localhost/idc/help/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm]

  • JDK 1.6 update n and compile with JRE

With the new optimizations of the install of a JRE with java 6 update n, is it possible to compile with jre and just the parts of the jre that you need for your application? That is can we distribute a java application that only have the parts of the JRE that it needs to a user that do not have any JRE isntalled and he can run it?
    Thanks
    WildChild

The license of Sun does not allow you to distribute just part of the JVM. The only solution to run your application in a computer without JVM is bundle your whole JRE folder together with your application.
At first it sounds bad, but if you use an installer to compress your files, the JRE will be around 14mb.
