Div Placement
Hello,
I have a site with divs instead of tables. I would like to
get an image (div 2) to stay in the bottom right of
another div (div 1).
(div 1) will have text.
I have placed the small div (div 2) with the image in the
background before the end of (div 1).
I have floated it right and cleared it left. If I pad or
margin (div 2) into a (div 1) and make div one a fixed height it
would work butt then as I add content to (div 1) I have to change
all those settings.
I would like to not have to change those.
I have not used any positioning and wonder if this is the
solution...? But in testing so far no luck.
Any ideas?
Just nest containers there, and let each carry its own
background. That's
the only way you're going to reliably get that image where
you want it.

Help with simple div placement, because it really isnt simple
Hello all,
I am new to edge, but not adobe.
I have a webpage with a 100% header width, but body is 1000px wide. I want to add a rectangle in grey to fade out to reveal the header, i got it to work but edge
will not let me assign it to 100%, or the max width of 1200px. it also keeps misplacing it. i try to manually adjust and it just completely destroys my layout. pressing up and right moves it left and down, then just down after, even if i press the correct arrow keys. Why is it so hard to do such a simple thing!!
please help. very fed up now.Try this:
sym.$("Stage").css("margin", "auto");
sym.$("Stage").css("width", "1000px"); -
All my div s pile up in the upper left-hand corner
Trying my hand at following Dreamweaver tutorial instructions
for making a CSS layout with absolute positioning, rather than
starting with pre-tested code, and not having much luck. Page looks
fine in DW 8.0.2/Mac Design window. However when previewing the
page in Safari, all the divs place themselves in the upper
left-hand corner, not in their "absolute" positions on the page.
There are a few graphics in the banner that touch rather than
leaving a 1px gap. That is the only area where I strayed from the
instructions in the tutorial I believe.
Beginning of page code attached. Thanks.Yeah, me too

I'm having a bit of a problem getting my text to behave the way I want. In Straight HTML (CSS) I can create a inline block div, place text in it and the text stays in the div, returns when it needs to at the end of the DIV, and expands the bottom/height of the div to fit text.
I can't figure out how a to get that same effect in animate. Dose anyone know how?
Can you do this with settings or do I need to code the Css into the div?Thank you Elaine (I thought i might be forgotten in the pile of forum questions), that did work! However there is a additional problem (thought one answer would fix both). the text is being fed into a text field that is in a symbol. The text dose just what you said it would and expands downward as needed. How can I get the symbol to do the same based on the text?
here is the example of the page.
here is a sample of my symbol (incase you need to get an idea on how that is built)
Thanks again -
Hello. I have a problem positioning layers in DW8 over-top of
my pages that I layed-out in photoshop. Say I want to draw or
position a layer over top of "unclickme_34.gif" I can do that fine
in dreamweaver as it aligns correctly to the image; however, in
multiple browsers it aligns to the left or right of the image even
as it shows its aligned to how I want it in DW. I'm pretty new to
DW8 maybe I'm just doing something wrong, or not setting up
something right?. Any suggestions?
I also searched the forums for an answer, though found no
beneficial information.

How can I put a vertical menu ON TOP OF the background image?
I've taken a screenshot to describe my problem.
http://i48.tinypic.com/10ndeg4.jpg
I want to put the menu on top of the background image. Compare it to placing another image on top of the background image. HOW on earth can I do this?Did you try putting the image in a <div> and setting the background image for the <div> with CSS. Then within the <div> place your menu.
Just a thought.

Hi, I built a website in dreamweaver and it works well in all browsers except for firefox. As you can see the back ground colour is peeking through and the content columns are sometimes floating out of place. Address is reconinspection.ca.
Thanks for your help.First of all, it looks like your are doing tables for your layout. Since you have no tabular data within them (a spreadsheet or calendar might be a good example), I have to wonder why you're using tables at all.
You are also using inline styles. You need to understand HTML and CSS and to construct your page correctly, using modern standards.
Just looking at your HTML, you're doing no general "wrapper" div. Instead, you're creating one <div> for the problem area and figuring it's going to suffice. You have images for navigation and then an image above and below your navigation instead of just making a background color.
Here is how to make a real website:
Don't use inline code to place anything. Place it in rules in your external style sheet and you do not need a separate style sheet for each rule (you have two: "site-layout.css" and "site-layout-content.css" each containing one rule).
In your one CSS stylesheet, after you have your body the way you want it, declare how you want your text to be in your body. That includes how links should be and how your header elements (<h1> through <h6>, or as many as you actually are using) should be.
Then make a "container" div, also referred to as a "wrapper." You should declare a common background for everything in that container and, in your case the rule should be:
background-color: #241E20;
The "wrapper" should have the width you want for your whole website (everything else needs to fit in there). Based on what you have done, I would recommend:
width: 968px;
Now, you've got a container to put everything inside of.
Next, declare your header. You don't need your images for the top and bottom above and below your navigation because your color is all ready done. Instead, you declare a header div with a height of your "Recon" image or simply allow that image to define your height. Now, within that header div you create a navigation div. Navigation is going to need to be positioned out to the right. You're also going to need to position it down from the top of the header div thusly:
#nav {
margin-left: 346px;
margin-top: 51px;
This positions your navigation as you currently have it to the right of your Recon image and down from the top of the div. You'll place your HTML code for your navigation within that div.
We've done the wrapper and the header. Now for the fun stuff.
You need a div for your banner. I would place it outside of your header, even though your header could contain it. It's simpler from your standpoint because you'll be thinking of blocks within blocks. You don't even need to declare it within CSS, but if you want to put text over it or to position a div that will have the "Recon Inspection, LTD" text in it (which you can do in CSS by creating a div that moves the text down like we moved your navigation down as well as gave it a left margin that places it where you have your text in your picture.
Making a text block like that is very good for search engine optimization, as search engines cannot "see" photographs. And your alt text "home_banner_image" doesn't say anything about your company.
Now let's get to the fun stuff -- and your actual problem.
Define a content area:
#content {
margin-left: 20px;
margin-top: 10px;
For your content area, you have "about us" That should be a <h1> tag and should be formatted so that it is apparent. Search engines will look for these tags for key words in your page. It will pick up your background from your "wrapper" or "container."
Type in the rest of the text and make it a <p> as you have done, only with left margins that will place the text where you want it. And, rather than do a <p> </p> above your "about us" text, define the <h1> with a left margin the same as your <p> text and with a top margin that avoids the need for that non-breaking space paragraph.
Now, you'll see all of your text in that div. So how do you handle the photograph?
Create a float right with a margin:
.fltrght {
float: right;
margin-left: 30px;
I am estimating that left margin, it may not be exactly right, but you will push your text to the left with that. You put your photograph in right after the <h1> tag:
<h1><img src="images/about_us_image.jpg" alt="about_us_image" height="338" width="452" class="fltrght />About Us</h1>
Now your photo lines up to the right of your text and you can change the alt= text to say something more about the company, like alt="Recon provides advanced API Inspection services and Non Destructive Examinations in compliance with all applicable governing bodies" this would place that alt text into a first header which is good for SEO.
Now, you don't have a footer. You may want a copyright. So you need to clear any floats with your footer.
So you want to define your footer (I am using HTML4 and CSS2.1 here)
#footer {
position: relative; /* this gives IE6 hasLayout to properly clear */
clear: both; /* this clear property forces the .container to understand where the columns end and contain them */
Now, you may want to have a contrasting color for your footer with different colors for text within it as well. I frequently define text to be a little smaller in footers, unless they contain navigation.
In your HTML, all of your divs lie within the "wrapper" or "container" div. That includes your header, your banner, your content and your footer. Some of your divs lie within other divs, like your navigation lies within the header and the text for Recon Inspection, LTD lies within your banner.
In your HTML, when you are making your <div> close the tag (</div>) before you do anything else. If you have divs within divs, place them and close them. Then go back and insert your pictures, HTML and text.
That's how you should do your page. And this will work in all browsers. -
Forms break WYSIWYG in design view
Hi!
I'm currently working with many forms, and I place those forms with CSS absolute positioning. The problem is that in the desing view (where the wysiwyg preview is shown) forms cause little symbols to appear inside the div and they offset the position of the divs.In other words the position of the divs appears different in dreamweaver than in the browsers.
Is there a way to turn those "form symbols" off from the preview so that the div placement is the same in the preview and in the browser?
I have attached and image of the issue!Andy Bay wrote:

You can also control which invisible elements Dreamweaver displays by default by accessing the Preferences panel (Edit menu on Windows, Dreamweaver menu on a Mac), and selecting the Invisible Elements category. -

May I use dbxml -s shell with CGI (Apache)
Hi! My code CGI script:
#!/usr/local/dbxml-2.4.13/install/bin/dbxml -s

echo ""
setVerbose 0x02 0x03

setVariable m top

time q {collection("core")}
print
time q {collection("core")//div[@place=$m]}
print
quit
I can`t pass/get system (DB_HOME) & custom environment variables to CGI scripts?
I will apreciate any help with this.
Regards,
AlexThis sounds like a weird idea, and I think it is, but it works.
You need to configure Apache to do CGI for your script directory. If you want to use an environment variable, you have to set it explicitly using SetEnv. (Alternatively, try PassEnv - check out the Apache documentation.)
<Directory /home/mludwig/www>
Options +ExecCGI
SetEnv DB_HOME /home/mludwig/dbenv
AddHandler cgi-script .cgi
</Directory>Then set up your script and make it executable, and also supply a dbxml batch file.
mludwig@forelle:~ > ls -l www/dbxml.cgi
-rwxr-xr-x 1 mludwig mludwig 105 2008-06-24 16:54 www/dbxml.cgi
mludwig@forelle:~ > cat www/dbxml.cgi
#!/bin/bash
echo Content-Type: text/plain
echo
env
/usr/local/dbxml23/bin/dbxml -s dbxml.txt -h $DB_HOME
mludwig@forelle:~ > cat www/dbxml.txt
open tv.dbxml
getdoc
print n 1
quit
mludwig@forelle:~ > curl -i localhost/mlu/dbxml.cgiThis works. But it may not be the best way to build a web application.

No need. All source is available from the link.
In ilth.html, change this:
<style type="text/css">
body {
background-image: none;
<!--
-->
</style>
<link href="../css/global.css" rel="stylesheet"
type="text/css" />
<script src="../SpryAssets/SpryMenuBar.js"
type="text/javascript"></script>
<link href="../SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css"
rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
to this:
<link href="../css/global.css" rel="stylesheet"
type="text/css" />
<script src="../SpryAssets/SpryMenuBar.js"
type="text/javascript"></script>
<link href="../SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css"
rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<style type="text/css">
body {
background-image: none;
background-color: #fff;
#container {
background-image: url(../images/global/bkPage.jpg);
</style>
By embedding the styles AFTER the linked stylesheets, the
rules
will overwrite property/value pairs in identical rules that
may already exist in the linked sheets - assuming no

Can you place an image in a div tag and then add type over top of it?
I told someone in class lastweek that I wanted to be able to
place type over an image. They said you can just add the image into
the div tag as a background image, which will allow you to then
type over it if you like. How is this done? I have tried and
failed. I have an image that is 200x590 going down the left side of
my page. I want to run type over it, and keep the image consistent
on every page, but change the header and type. I've seen this in
several sites. How do you do this with the div tag box model method
of building a page. Can I insert an image into the div and then run
type over it. What does the code look like?Here's an example of using a css and a background image to a
table cell...

I'm trying to get to grips with AP Div. I bought the Joesph
Lowry DW CS4 tutorial, and am following the bit on AP Div. I do it
step by step, on 2 different pc's, to make sure to do it right. He
then places a AP Div in a nested Div ID - I CAN'T.
I can change position afterwards, and then place it in the
right spot, but not the way it's shown. What am I doing wrong ??

Don't. At this point, you would be well advised to forget
they exist. They
are the La Brea tarpits for new and inexperienced users.
What is it you are trying to achieve?
