Dlsw problem : stuck in WAIT_CAP

Hi all
we had a great problem with some snasw/dlsw routers.
About all dlsw peers remained in WAIT_CAP state( except few resources where dlsw connection ok ) while no ip issues were present between central routers and dlsw remote routers....
The appn snasw links seemed to be ok ( seeing the snasw link command )
A question : there is a relationship between dlsw peer state and snasw link , ie there is an interaction between the 2 processes that could block dlsw peering establishement if there is a mistake on snasw=appn process??
Thanks for feedbacks
Stefano R.

Stefano,
the debugging is telling us that the tcp write and read pipe was opened. Ok so far. Next the router is sending his cap_ex message and then this router waits for the cap_ex from the peer. Which never arrives.
So why is the cap exchange not arriving? It would be very much needed to see the debug from the other end at the same time to have a chance to understand what goes on.

Here you see when the write pipe opens, when the read pipe goes up, the tcp connection from the other router came back to us and this router is sending his CapExId to the peer but we dont get a response and time out.

  • Dlsw+ problem with SNI connection

We have a cisco 1603 router using dlsw+ to peer with a Nortel ASN.
at the cisco end it is x21 connection from the FEP
at the Nortel end it is token ring to an OSA
when we try and start a JES node we get an IBM sense code 800A0000 and the session drops.
The sense code states the transmission was truncated by the receiving node
because the PIU (path information unit) was to large or there was no buffer space available
has anyone seen a similar problem ?
This link was working I am told there have been no changes to the routers, only thing I can think of is that the network reconverged and it is now taking a different path between the two sites. I am asking for trace routes and trying to check if that is right.
Am I going in the right direction ?

Apparently this is strictly a configuraiton problem on the host. There is nothing wrong with the Cisco or Nortel routers.
Please me explain to you the data flow. Assume that the FEP sends a packet to the 1603. (The following applies to a packet from the OSA to the FEP) If the packet is too large for the 1603 to handle, the 1603 will drop the packet. As a result, the SDLC link will go down. Otherwise, the 1603 adds a DLSw header (16 bytes I think), a TCP header (normally 20 bytes), and an IP header (20 bytes). The 1603 uses TCP to tranport the packet with TCP/IP header. Depending upon your TCP setting, TCP may segment the packets into a number of different segments. Then, TCP uses IP to deliver the segment(s) to the Nortel router. If the TCP segments are too big for any routers between the DLSw peer, the router may either fragment the TCP segments or send an ICMP message, according to RFC 1191, to the 1603. The ICMP causes the 1603 to lower the TCP segment size. If any routers between the DLSw peers do not support RFC1191, the routers will drop the TCP segment. This will cause TCP detecting a gap in TCP sequence number. Eventually, TCP will disconnect the virtual circuit, which cause the peer go down.
Once all the TCP segments for the orignal SNA packet arrive at the Nortel router, the TCP stack on the Nortel router assemble the original SNA packet and put in on the token ring interface.
From the description, it looks like that the SNA packet reaches destination VTAM. VTAM finds out that the PIU is too large. If there is any problem on the IP path, I expect to see either:
    1. a disconnect on the LLC2 or SDLC circuit. In other words, a DLSw circuit disconnect
    or
    2. a DLSw peer disconnect
Please check the modtab and find out the max RU size inside the bind. Make sure both VTAMs can handle the RU size.

  • DLSw problem whith two connection to the host

    Hello every one,
My name's Mostafa CHAKIR,I am a technical ingeneer in the CBI Networks Morocco.
We have a dual connection to a IBM Host via two 7206 routers called CPA1 and CPA2 in the central site.
In the remote site we have a 2610 routers connected with Public Frame-Relay, and anohter link with ISDN as backup.
Two peers dlsw from the remote site are configured, the first with CPA2 and its backup with CPA1 ( as you will see in the configuration).
when the link go down (FR), the peers stay in stat connected in both site until there is a SNA trafic, and the ddr is made from the remote site.
The problem is when the two link go down, the Host always see that the remote site is connected, the router CPA2 don't breack the circuit, and when the ISDN link come UP first, it open a circuit with a CPA1 even if the CPA2 is active, the HOST don't accept the second circuit cause it says that there is another circuit opened in the CPA2 with the same IDNum IDBlock. I tried to resolve that with the "dlsw timer sna-cahe-timeout" command but it have no effect.
i search some solution to this problem.

    Hello,
    Thank you for your response.
If i remove the keepalive 0 from the configuration of the remote site's router, the ddr will be made immediately after the primary link goes down (FR), it will stay active all time, because the dlsw is the intersting trafic for the ddr :access-

    Hi,
the first thing i would do if you need help in troubleshooting is to open a Service Request with cisco's tac.
If things used to work and suddenlly stopped to work than the question always is what has changed??
There are lots of potentiall issues in the chain one can look at. I would advice to open a SR and work the issue with the tac until conclusion.
    thanks...

I have a big problem, I'm not able to use nokia messaging, it gets stuck after I write my e-mail address and paswords, the screen says "contacting e-mail server" and it lasts forever. I waited for over an hour yesterday and I had to cancel the process -I needed to make some calls
I used nokia messaging on this same phone before, but I did a hard reset of the hard drive so I had to download and install it again. That's all I can add. And of course I'd like to know what to do,

yeah same with me .. Im get stuck at c0ntacting email server ..my ph0ne is n97 mini

  • Problem-Stuck in the Classic Environment

Have a Power PC, G4 Mac running OSX 10.5.8. 10.5.8 has been properly updated thru Software Update. Things worked fine for a long time. Just tried using the OS 9.2.2 Classic Environment again. It used to work before. Now there's a problem. The Startup Disk Control Panel in Classic keeps freezing with the "watch"/thinking icon before an option to select 10.5.8 comes up to restart back into OSX. Mac is now "stuck" in Classic Environment. How do I get back to my regular OSX Environment? Will I need my OSX disk to somehow restore this? Thanks.

One of the downsides to Startup Manager is that for volumes containing more than one viable OS, such as OS X and OS 9, it will offer only the one last booted to. This means if your hard drive is not partitioned and with OS X and OS 9 on separate partitions, Startup Manager can not help you get out of the one stuck in.
To force-boot to OS X, restart or boot, immediatesly press the X key and keep it held down until you know the machine has started to boot into OS X.
Note that this is a one-off event, meaning it will not change the setting in Starup Disk. If you want to continue using OS X for subsequent boots, while bootes to OS X go into System Preferences and make the appropriate selection in Startup Disk.

  • Speaker problem "stuck" to headphone-mode ?

Got some problems with the speaker right now.. I can't hear the person calling me.. But if I use headphones it will work.. It's like the phone is stuck to headphone-mode, or what to say, Can't hear music from spotify/youtube from the speaker, I can listen to the ringtones in the settings, But i can't listen to music / hear people calling me..
I have restarted the phone like 5 times and nothing happens,. I also tried to reset the phone..
Anyone got the same problem ?.

Check the headphone jack for debris one more time. The symptoms certainly suggest that debris is the cause. Shine a light down in there.(Be Careful)
Restore "As a New Device". The backup can put a glitch back on the phone. If that does not work, use your warranty. If you are out of warranty, restore again and unplug to test before choosing from backup or as new(sometimes corrupted data on the iphone can cause strnage behavior).
If all else fails check on price of out of warranty repair.

  • Gestures problem, stuck on 4 fingers.

Today I was trying to add some additional gestures to my iMac using better touch tool, after a bit of playing about I decided I couldn't do what I wanted, so I went back to the magic trackpad system prefs and resturned all the settings back to what they where. In sys prefs I have mission control assigned to 3 finger swip up and app expose assigned to 3 finger swipe down. However mission control can now be activated using 3 or 4 finger swipe up and the same for app expose with 3 or 4 fingers.
I use the 4 finger gesture for other app specific gestures, thus having this issue renders them inaffactive, I only want mission control or app expose to work with 3 finger swipes.
I thought it might be an issue with better touch tool, so I went through all gestures and checked them, but there didn't seem to be a conflict. I then quit BTT but still had the same problem. I've done a full restart but still missions control and app expose are responding to 3 and 4 finger swipes, when BTT isn't running. I think it is a system problem and not a BTT problem. I treid turning off all gestures in system prefs and then back on but that had no effect, it appears that the mission control and app expose gestures are stuck on both 3 and 4 fingers swipes instead of just 3 fingers as I've selected.
Any ideas how to fix this?
    Sam
    Core i3 imac running 10.7.3

    Sam,
Wow, glad I checked here before posting my own discussion. You're not alone. I also have BTT installed (best thing to happen to Mac, bar none), but I can recall even prior to BTT that app expose and mission control would both be triggered by three and four finger swipes, when the preference is set to three finger swipes. I also noticed that if you set them to work with only four fingers, it'll disable the three finger gesture (the way it should). I do believe this is a system bug and it quite annoying, as I would like the system to set a three finger swipe up for mission control, a three finger swipe down for app expose and use BTT to set the four finger swipe for dashboard. My work around for the time being is to set the system preference to four (where it will funtion the way it's supposed to, with four fingers and not also with three) finger swipe for M.C./A.E. and to set the three finger functionality for dashboard. Call me neurotic or obsessive compulsive, but this still doesn't achieve what I want, which is to have those settings reversed.

  • Vista Recovery Problem: Stuck in loop "Applying Final Configuration"

I have a Satellite A215-S5829 Laptop that came with Vista Home Premium pre-installed. After a failed attempt to downgrade to XP (couldn't get all the necessary drivers) I totally erased the hard disk using the recovery disk provided by Toshiba.
Next, I ran the recovery disk and selected the "Recover to Out-of-Box State" (or something close to that wording). When the 2nd recovery disk is finished the system indicates that the recovery process is complete and that the system will restart.
Upon restart it appears that everything has been restored to the out-of-box state. However, the system then indicates that it is "Applying final configuration". Once this final configuration has been applied the system then restarts. And this is where the loop begins. Th system then goes through the "Applying final configuration" part all over again and then restarts  and so on...
My question is, why is this happening and how do I fix it?

Just let the extremely long process finish
I was completely frustrated with this problem.  I was re-initializing because the computer would not boot.  I spent about an hour on installation and it seemed to be stuck in the loop everyone refers to.  I tried starting over with restore.  Got the same problem.
I found this site and looked at suggestions.  It was still "Applying Final Configuration" and re-booting.  Finally, I minimized the screen  "Applying Final Configuration".  I looked at what was being installed.  On re-boot, I minimized the screen.  It was applying a different device install.  I checked and after each re-boot, it was applying one more device or program.
This is the most frustrating restore I have ever done.  I think there were 30 or 40 reboots.  No, I did not go back to count them.  It took two hours or so to complete, again, I did not go back and time the process.  If someone reads this before they start, count the re-boots and observe the time.
I'll bet this makes for lots of tech calls.
The process is working like Toshiba set it up.  There is no failure.  I'll bet most or all of these restores had no problem either.  You just have to let the process finish.

  • Zen Micro Problem - Stuck and won't b

I own this device for less than 2 month. I was very pleased with it - awesome mp3 player (at least to my standards) but now something fishy happened to my player.
One day it wouldn't boot properly (if i can call it booting). It gets past the first copyright screen, and at the second one, where you see the word CREATIVE it stops and stays at it until the battery discharges.
So I got into the Recovery Mode and tried all the Options.
.) reboot - reboots the player and it gets stuck in the CREATIVE screen - so no go
2.) reload fw - it gets stuck in the erasing firmware screen. i let it be for an hour or so and it still says that and i doubt it takes an hour to reload fw
3.) format - it gets stuck in the formatting screen just like in reload fw
4.) clean - same thing, it gets stuck in the scan disk screen
so this renders my player unusable. I cashed out about 220 for it and i'd hate to see my money go to waste.
so PLEASE, I BEG YOU, how do i fix this. what's wrong with my baby any help is appreciated and i am gratefull for all comments.

Well, thank you for your in-depth explination of your problem. You can't imagine how many questions I usually have to ask to get the basics out of the way. Sadly, it sounds like you got a faulty unit. You have two courses of action.
    a) Take the unit back to where you purchased it in the hopes you can get a replacement.
    b) Call creative customer service, and they will replace it for up to 3 months after you've bought it. I've had to take this method to fix my micro once as well.
    Hope this hel
    ps.

  • Really strange installation problem (stuck during phase 1)

I just bought a new macbook pro 15" (mid-2009) and I decided to put a larger hard drive in there, so I bought a Seagate 500GB SATA 2.5" drive. I replaced the drive, popped in my Snow Leopard DVD and booted from the disc. I erased and partitioned the hard drive as OS X Extended Journaled. I continued with the installation but when it starts to install the OS itself, it gets stuck.
I opened up the log and it it gets stuck at the part where it says it's retrieving package com.apple.MacOSX.packagename (it varies on the package and it's random). The first couple of times, it got stuck at some printer drivers, so I took it out with the custom install button and then it got stuck somewhere else. I left the installer running for 1 to 2 hours each time but it doesn't budge, the timer just freezes and never moves. The progress bar also just stays at the same location. The system responds to the mouse and I can reboot the system.
I tried to disable everything under the custom install and just installed the bare necessities but it still gets stuck, no matter what options I chose. The stock 250GB, with the preloaded snow leopard OS installed, works perfectly fine but this new 500GB just won't install. I also even tried another hard drive it also gets stuck. I tried googling and found out there was an issue with the SATA going 1.5Gbit and I tried to apply the 1.7 EFI update but the updater said it wasn't really needed.
The last thing I did was boot the stock hard drive that came pre installed with Snow Leopard and ran a mac update to get the latest firmware updates for the macbook but it didn't seem to help. It only found an update for the bluetooth but nothing else.
Does anyone know why it won't install? I've tried replacing the disc from the store but still doesn't help. Is there something wrong with this laptop?

Yes, the hard drive partition scheme is GUID. I've exchanged the hard drive already with a new one and still getting the same problem. I tried copying the Snow Leopard DVD onto a 16GB thumb drive, booted from it and went installing it that way. It took forever, so I left it overnight and it had an error eventually.
This is the first time I've had this problem before and I've installed Mac OS X as a fresh install before but never had a problem like this. Here is my log:

  • G5 start up problem: stuck at grey screen with fans running full strength

hi, i'm new to discussions, so i hope this question and my technical knowledge and descriptions will be OK: problem: G5 20" stuck at grey screen with fans running full strength..
so far i've tried but did not work:
    - power off by pressing the button for 5 secs,
    - checked all cables connections etc, take out the power cable try again, etc.
    - removed all USB connections, re-did
    - tried to use it as 'target drive' connected to my macbook by firewire
    - tried to start up and keeping C key pressed
    - tried to start up with 'shift' key pressed
    - tried to start up with command, options, P and R keys pressed,
    - i had an additional RAM, i've taken it out and tried again, no luck
    - i've put in Mac OS X install disc1, no luck, and now disc is inside my iMac, can't take it out
    any recommendations? thank you!

    Scroto,
You may not actually have a bad processor. On the Dual G5's it's not uncommon after a few years for dust and corrosion to build up between the processors and their sockets. You can fairly easily remove the processors and clean the connections yourself if you're at all handy. Basically, snap off the heatsink covers, loosen a few screws and the processor and heatsink come out as a unit.
Clean the contacts on the processors (carefully). And clean the sockets. Be sure to put the same processor in the same place or you'll have issues.
I used 90% isopropol alcohol to clean mine last year. Let it air dry and blew both the socket and the cpu off after with canned air. That done, I reinstalled the processors, buckled everything up and no more "bad" processor... The machine worked perfectly from then on and I assume it still does today. Don't know, someone stole it last month:(...

  • CC desktop app Mac sign in problem - stuck in a loop

When i try to sign in on the desktop app Mac it says I have signed out and I need to sign in again. This is a perpetual loop.

    many thanks for any help.

    Abhijit,
I'm afraid that my problem with the CC Desktop App Home panel is NOT a disk permissions issue...
Per your suggestion, I verified my hard drive, repaired permissions, and rebooted my laptop. However, when I click on the Creative Cloud icon in the Finder's menu bar, the Home panel still displays a continually spinning gear wheel, as it did previously. The Apps panel is properly displayed, and the Files and Fonts panels display "coming attractions" messages; I don't have any projects in the Behance panel.
Prior to visiting this forum, I did a Google search on the problem of "CC Desktop App Home Panel Hangs," and I found a couple posts suggesting that the only way to cure this problem is to uninstall all CC/CS6 apps, use Adobe Cleaner to clean up the CS6/CC installation, and then reinstall all the apps via CC...and that doing all this does not necessarily prevent the problem for recurring.
I must say that I'm finding certain aspects of the Creative Cloud implementation to be surprisingly buggy. I've already lost a couple day's work to dealing with Creative Cloud installation and functionality issues--which is very frustrating, to say the least.
That being said, if you have any other suggestions, I'm willing to try them, as I would like to get my Creative Cloud installation working properly.

  • Nokia e72 Messaging problem stuck in a loop

I've been stuck for over 2 hours trying to get my e72 to setup messgeging but when I go through the wizard and enter in my email adress Gmail and Yahoo after password I get put back to the setup process, and I tried adding a pop it took it but then it wouldn't work.
I tried to log into email.nokia.com/account/home.action  but non of my email address passwords worked.  I then created an ovi mail account verified it all and that won't work on email.nokia.com/account/home.action I have also tried the pop address that went in bust doesn't send a receive and still no go.
This should be a 4 step process and it's taking a long time and still no go.
Does any one know how to get past this area?
    Thanks

When using the E72 device in offline mode it's not possible to setup a mailbox for yahoo, hotmail, gmail or other provider (data plan is needed) . This is only valid if setting up the mailbox for the first time. If the user has already set up one mail box with SIM card inserted, after that it's possible to do it in offline mode. Means that you cannot create first mailbox using the Wi-Fi.
After the set up email has done, the synchronisation can be done on the offline mode using Wifi connection.
If setup wizard is running on the loop, you should check that your Data connection (Internet) is ok, and you have entered correct email info.

  • G4 start up problem, stuck in blue screen

Hello all. So, after mistakenly unplugging the G4 it will no longer boot. I get the gray screen, which then goes to the blue screen where it stays. The mouse pointer will appear, then periodically disappear while a status icon flashes in the lower center of the screen.
I've already tried resetting the PMU. When I attempt to use safe boot i get to the login screen. I enter my login/pass, which brings up a black prompt screen asking for login/pass again. I can login, but what if anything am I supposed to do at this point?
I thought safe boot just launched OSX without some features enabled?
Any suggestions. Tonight I'm going to try to use my laptop to open the G4 in target mode.
    Thanks,
    D

You could try the following. From the hatter. It was for a abit different problems, but may work.
Unplug the machine, pull the clock battery, hit the power button to discharge. Then plug it in without the clock battery. The machine should boot perfectly. Shut down, reinstall the clock battery, and now the system is fully functional. From Macosxhints.
To help you understand Safe Mode check the following:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107392
Also when you login with Safe Mode, go into system preferences/accounts/Login items, and remove any that are there.
Then restart without holding any keys.
The problems could be a third party application at login that would allow the boot.
If the problems continues, and there are any files she needs, I would start again in Target mode, pull the files. Than do a complete reinstall, with a zeroing of the hard drive which will take a while depending on its size.
