Do any of the itunes movies have full 5.1 surround when playing out of ATV
Just wondering if itunes movies have surround sound or are they just stereo. If you know of a movie title that has it
please name the title.
dolby surround or "ProLogic" isn't "dot" anything, it is simple 2 channel audio. basically it uses a matrix to decode the audio and "steer" audio to the appropriate channel. ProLogic decoders generally have a left, center, right, surround left, and surround right output... but the surround outputs are actually a mono output, just happen to have 2 physical outputs because most installations had 2 rear speakers. there is a subwoffer output to, which is a crossovered output from the decoder's summed output.
the simple explanation of the way it works...
if audio is only in the left channel, it plays back on the left speaker
ditto right channel, right speaker
if audio is on both left and right channels and "in phase" then it plays back on the center speaker
if audio is on both left and right channels but "out of phase" it plays back on the surround speakers.
ProLogic steering is not 100%, so there is some leakage between channels, and of course signals can be mixed so can have multiple sound elements playing back in various left / right / in phase / out of phase combinations to give you that 360 surround capability.
5.1 is more effective as it eliminates the need to "steer" and simply allows the audio engineer to output any sound he wants to any speaker.
i'm not going to conjecture quite yet what is going to happen with ITMS and surround, but i have to believe that it is coming. high end surround processors and receivers have been using Cirrus Logic decoders that are capable of decoding multi-channel AAC for some time now, so that is 1 option for discrete surround implementation.

ITunes movie playlist full-screen on tv for only the first one

I am experimenting with getting what's on my MacBook Pro (15" 2ghz quad core, bought 5/11) displayed/played on my HD TV. I have tried all kinds of approaches (XBMC, Plex, Boxee (the software version), Front Row, Miro, Serviio, TV Mobli, Twonky, and who knows what else on the MBP as well as XBMC on an older Powerbook as well as using DirecTV's Media Share) but none are satisfactory. The current approach is to connect the MBP to the TV by a display port to HDMI cable.
The problem I am having is: when using iTunes to play movies on a playlist, I can get the TV to display the first movie as full-screen but when it comes to the next one, I lose full-screen. It reverts back to the original size of the video. When I play the same playlist on the MBP display, successive movies stay in full-screen. (Of the two movies i have tested, the first is an mp4; the next one is an m4v.)
Is there any way I can get movies played on an iTunes playlist to stay full-screen when displayed on the TV?
All of my movies are things I've recorded with EyeTV or otherwise captured or digitized and most are converted to QT. Some are flash, some are Mpegs and I may have a few other formats. Nothing has DRM. I don't have any copyrighted "real" movies; they're all little things (music videos, segment from home movies, etc) I have put together. (Features like "scraping" with Plex for example, are completely worthless/inappropriate for me and otherwise ruin what could be a good approach to dealing with all of my media.)
I would also be curious about anyone's ideas about the best way overall to display movies and pictures from the MBP onto the TV. For streaming video I will just drag a browser window over to the TV and then go full-screen. That works for me. It is important that I keep the MBP display free for the usual computer stuff. I don't want it blacked out or otherwise made useless so any suggestion has to bear that in mind. So far I can do almost all that I want but I haven't settled on the best way yet.
I am ok with having to switch the audio output on the preference pane to the TV when I do this.
I am having one other issue: Sometimes I will lose audio half-way into one of these short movies (3-4 minutes long) on my iTunes playlist. I have dragged the movie window back to the MBP display and it still has no audio. I will then restart that movie and it will play fine on the MBP. I don't know what is going on with that. I am worried that the cable may not be able to carry audio ALL the time but why would I still get no audio when I have dragged the movie window back to the MBP if the cable was at fault? Any ideas on what is going on here?

Not sure what the problem is. Using my iPhone 3G and component cable I watched Iron Man in widescreen on my Mitsu 62" tv but when I tried to play Journey to the Center of the Earth it will only play full screen. When I play it on the iPhone it will play in widescreen. Does anyone have a clue here because I sure don't. Thanks. Happy Thanksgiving. -
I am unable to sync my old Itunes library to the IMac I purchased last month, I tunes wants to erase the old library except for the ITunes I have purchased. Any ideas out there?
- You can only syncewith one iTunes library. It sounds like you change libraries such as changing the computer.

I have an apple certified refurbished iPod touch 3rd generatio. When playing the music with headphones, the music moves from song to song. When it is on a docking station, it repeats the song. Any ideas why or how to fix it?
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

I want to know if the movies we can buy/rent on the iTunes store have sub-titles? And if so, how do we know? And if not, is it something envisioned by Apple?

I have been using Itunes on my HP laptop for 12 months and over the past month have not been able to access the Itunes store or any of the Itunes Help type menu's. When in Itunes I click on the Store icon and the top middle box gets to Half way. Pls help

In windows 7 click on your start menu, go to the accessories, right click on the command icon and choose "run as administrator"
Once it opens type the following command...
netsh winsock reset
Hit enter and it should say something like winsock reset successful now reboot your computer

Use the command File > Add Folder to Library, and point it to the folder(s) where the music is.

Are you able to receive any mail at all? If not, make sure that all of your information for mail is accurate in settings again. if you still have nothing, go to your email through safari. (example: www.yahoo.com) If you do not see the emails here either, it is a problem with the password reset server not your mail app.

i am trning to find the movie trailer app that was built in on my late model macbook pro. if this isnt still an option, i would like to know my other options.
There is a way to see (in small window) short bits and parts of video movies, where they exist, in the iTunes application from the store page in there. My older Mac with earlier version of iTunes lets me browse Music, Movies, TV stores, from the sections on the iTunes application; years ago there was more direct content. They used to have a site page for some of those clips... I haven't looked lately.

If you browse the items for sale/rent, a few have a tiny triangle on them and this opens the little window where a preview runs. A few actual movies will have an option to see a preview or trailer-like video in a similar small window that opens up over the store screen.
The older iTunes application in earlier Mac systems had various other features. In order to view movie trailer kinds of content streamed from the internet, you may have to look into a third party application or a web page.
There may be a list of applications included with certain models of Mac portables
and if you can find that name, that may be a talking point. The Store has lists of
what software may be included in the most recent Macs in each products info.

Does anyone know what happened to the movies that were in itunes in OS X 10.5 when I upgraded to 10.8 itunes no longer has a movie page. Some of my movies I purchased from itunes are now gone too. I see the itunes movie library when I look using my finder window.

I couldn't agree more! I have used many printers at work and assigned many as well. I typically use laser printers for the obvious reasons. I purchased the epson WF-3540 for the H.R. dept due to certain demands (needed fax mach, needed auto duplex print and scan capabilities, needed e-print, needed to print on envelopes and needed to print in color) Speed was a factor as was ink usage and cost. This printer claimed to meet all those needs while using little ink. I was shocked at how fast this thing was.It scans like a dream. Needless to say this is basically the only printer I purchase now and everyone I got it for LOVES it. Great job Epson -
Movie 11 will not play any of the projects I have created over the past several months. It will play iMovie events. Anyone else having this problem? Please help - Thanks

I just got back from the Apple Store for the second visit with the Mac Genius to try to resolve the problem.
First visit we trashed the iMovie 11 application and reinstalled iMovie and ran a software update. Upon relaunching we were pleased that all projects and events ran perfectly from both the HD and the Drobo.
After lugging my 27" iMac back home and restarting it the same problem appeared. I returned to the Apple store for a second visit. This time I left the iMac at the store overnight. The apple service guys were able to duplicate the problem and wiped my hard drive. There appears to be a bug with iMovie 11 (not confirmed) and an elevated report was submitted to Apple engineers.
I am leaving my "old" projects and events on the external drive unless I need to import them. I am not going to restore from back up and will use a "clean" version of iMovie11. No guarantees the problem won't come back. This issue consumed a TON of my time.... hopefully Apple can fix iMove11. -
Convert my movies to the iTunes movies
How can i convert my movies form my file to the iTunes movies so i can watch them on my apple tv
For example i download movies from the internet, their format is AVI i want to convert them to a format that is accepted on my itunes, what kind of application or program do you suggest ?
AVI is a file container which employs frame interleaving of the audio and video track data. It can be used with a number different audio and video compression formats. Official support for this file type was dropped by its originator more than a decade ago. Some compression format codecs have never been recoded for use under OS X. of those that have, some do not function on Intel based Mac platforms. Having said all that, those still commonly in use may be supported by installation of the free Perian component package. If you already have this component package installed or plan to install it, make sure you read the Perian support information regarding the removal of DivX, Xvid, 3ivX, and/or other codecs which can create conflicts.
Once installed, the Perian package will allow the conversion of many AVI compression formats using QT 7 Pro, GarageBand, iTunes, and/or other QT based applications like the free MPEG Streamclip utility. Other third-party applications like HandBrake provide their own codec components and, therefore, do not require the installation of Perian to convert files. All of the applications mentioned have built-in TV conversion presets which should allow you to achieve reasonable results immediately without having to "tweak" settings.
One additional note... If the files can be played by the QT X or QT 7 players, then they should be playable/convertible by iTunes. However, the iTunes application itself does not like the AVI container. To get around this, you can copy AVI supported compressed data from the AVI file container to an MOV file container which can then be added directly to iTunes for playback but would still have to be converted to an TV compatible compression format within iTunes to play on your TV device. -
My iphone is no longer working I have black screen with a picture of the itunes logo and a USB cable. When I try to connect my iphone to itunes the device is not detected, can anyone help me? I desperatley need my phone back
I have had a 3GS for 2+ years. After upgrading to IOS 4 (now 4.3.5) I began having problems. In the past week, my screen went to the itunes logo and USB cable twice -- unprovoked -- just found it sitting there like that! I connected to itunes and it did restore from a backup but it is a major inconvenience. I am also searching for answers, but better back-up regularly!

I bought a song off of the itunes store on my iphone but it wont play. I even tried to repurchase it but it says that I already purchased it. I have restarted my phone and turned it off but it still won't download or play. HELP!
Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting that track from your phone and re-download it via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on it, or the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if it re-downloads in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that song and use the 'Report a Problem' link and fill in details about the problem (iTunes support should reply within, I think, about 24 hours).
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work (it's been taking some people to this site on a browser instead of showing a form in iTunes) then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page. -
I just purchased a movie from the iTunes store using iTunes ver. 11.0. The movie downloaded correctly is there on my hard drive but does appear in the iTunes library. How do I get it to appear in the iTunes Movie Library?
