Do I need a shopping cart

This is just a general question about a new site I am about to develop.
It is for the sale of one item only (a hardcover book), so I was just wondering if I really need to have a shopping cart on the site or can I get away with just routing the customer to a secure paypal page to do the whole payment process there.
Or if anyone has any other ideas on a good safe way to carry this out, I would love and appreciate the feedback.

I've done a couple of e-commerce training courses for Lynda.com that may be helpful in getting you on firmer footing with the whole e-commerce topic. The first one is kind of dated, from a technical stand point but it is still quite good on all the facets of e-commerce, so the first half of the course still really holds it's own and couple prove helpful. The second one was released mid last year and is still VERY relevant and will give you a lot of information on the technical side of things.

Lynda.com is a paid subscription site, but they have a free 30 trial offer that should give you plenty of time to look at these and a few other courses if you like.

I would suggest you look into a 3rd party package. Cartweaver is one to look at, webassist also makes one.

Hi. I'm hoping some fine folks can help me. As you can
probably guess, I'm a bit on the "newbie" side when it comes to
front-end development. :) I'm trying to help out my brother, who
owns a small business. He'd like a website that would allow catalog
navigation, online ordering, etc. I'm looking for a (hopefully

to the op, you need more than just a template to create a
store, unless
you go down the Paypal route, but even then you need to
program some stuff.

First step is to setup a merchant bank account, then sign up
to a credit
card processing service, then buy and setup an ssl
certificate, then
code the pages necessary to accept payment. If this sounds
like a lot of
work, pay someone experienced to do it for you.

Multiple users and shopping carts, one searchable index?

Hi all,
I've got an idea but I would like to know if it possible with Business Catalyst. I'll try and explain as simply as possible:
I have multiple users (let's say 10). They all need separate shopping carts as they are all selling different products. They all need their own admin areas that keep track of their incomes, workflows, shopping carts, etc. They are essentially 10 independent users. Will the WebCommerce10 plan satisfy their needs, or will 10 separate WebCommerce single plans need to be sold?
Taking the above into account, is there anyway to have 10 independent shopping carts, but they can all be searchable simultaneously? e.g. think eBay, lots of users with their own independent admin areas and products, but one search field returning many results from all the user's shopping carts? Is there anyway to achieve something like this with BC? Can subdomains do this? Any other ideas how to achieve this if none of the above is possible?
My plan B is having a landing page where a link for each of the 10 users will take them to their relevant shopping carts, but this experience isn't quite as integrated as I would like, from a web surfer's point of view.

Hi Robbie,
Yes, this would require significant modification to the shopping cart functionality. As it is now, it's very dependent the ShoppingCart being associated with the session and therefore the user. To change that would be significant work.
Additionally, if you had two people logging in to the same account and editing the same order around the same time, this would tend to not to work well. This is because two users would be two sessions and they would often get routed to different app server instances. Because the way orders are managed, there's no way to immediately sync up the changes between multiple instances, and if you managed to do it would likely slow things down drastically. I would not recommend trying this with ATG.

Problem with shopping cart

When I click on "buy now" i get an error message saying items in my cart have changed, etc and to check it again and then hit buy now. I just keep getting same message over and over. If I choose one-click shopping, I can buy. But I hate having 20-25 .99 purchases going on my debit card. I used the shopping cart option a couple of weeks ago with no problem. What am I doing wrong? I didn't change anything. Yikes

Using the Shopping Cart as a "wish list" and keeping a lot of tracks there for future purchase is a mistake. If the iTunes Store has to remove one (or more) of the tracks, it can corrupt your Shopping Cart. To keep tracks for future purchase, create a normal playlist (call it "wish list" if you like) and drag the tracks from the iTunes Store to that playlist. Then use the Shopping Cart only for tracks you intend to purchase very soon.
As to your current problem, contact the iTunes Music Store customer support department through the form at the bottom of this web page and explain the problem to them. They'll probably need to clear your Shopping Cart to get it to work again.

Shopping carts not appearing int eh worklist of the buyer

Shopping carts that are created by the user are not appearing in the buyer Worklist if he is not assigned to that product category.

for eg.
001 - product category - ABC -Purchase group - John - Purchaser
in the PPOMA purchase group ABC - responsible product category is 001 and under ABC purchase Group - Assigend John
now John might receive sc if you dont assign any sosurce of supply / if you did sourcing configuration

Does any one know of a cood shopping cart?

I tried cartweaver and they are a ripoff. I need a shopping cart to add to one of my sites, if anyone knows of one please help.

I've tried several times at resolving this problems to no avail. I moved al the cartweaver files to godaddy, setup a sql batabase, made all the changes and I still am no closer to resolving this problem with cartweaver. Shopping Cart - Help?

I'm new to web design, and self taught, so go easy on me, haha. I have a site up, that sells organic mattresses and I need to add a shopping cart to it so customers can purchase online. I have a google checkout account, which comes with a shopping cart widget but it's limited and I need a shopping cart with more options/more customizeable because there are a lot of different options the customer can pick that effect price.
I've been googling shopping carts for 6 hours now. Everything I've found turns out to be an entire online store. Which I'm not looking for, because I've already designed my website and set up the product pages. I'm just looking to add a shopping cart. I can't, for the life of me, find a premade shopping cart that I can just add to my site. At this point, I'm assuming I'm really ignorant on the subject and you can't do that?
I don't know too much about shopping carts, or how they work. So if anyone could help me out, let me know what my options are and the different ways to add a shopping cart, I'd really appreciate it!

You've made a common newbie mistake of putting the wagon ahead of the horse. Ideally, you should build your site pages within your shopping cart system. IOW, the product IDs, descriptions, prices, options, etc... are stored in server-side databases. Content is dynamically populated to your site pages. This is the price of doing things on your own without first consulting an expert. All is not lost though. Find out which programming languages your server supports (ASP, PHP, ColdFusion...)
Have a look at Cartweaver and Web Assist They each have e-commerce extensions that can be used with DW.

Making Muliple Shopping Carts Under The Same iTunes Account

In our home, we have one iTunes account, but there is more than one person who needs to use that account. Is there a way to make it so everyone has their own personal shopping cart instead of everyone having one shopping cart and all the songs getting mixed up?

By iTunes Accounts, I mean the iTunes Store Account (credit card). Everyone has their own libraries on their own Macs. Thanks for the tip about putting the songs in a playlist. I never thought of doing that.

Shopping Cart needs to be Held Status when created from Upload Program

Hi All,
Shopping Cart is created from Custom Upload Program. In Upload Program, we used BBP_PD_SC_CREATE, BBP_PD_SC_UPDATE, BBP_PD_SC_SAVE and BBP_PD_SC_COMMIT.
Once the Shopping Cart is created from this upload program, I want ot put Shopping Cart as Helad Status.
I exported the parameter I_PARK as 'X' in BBP_PD_SC_CREATE and BBP_PD_SC_UPDATE. But it is not working i.e., the SRM system is not keeping the Shopping Cart as Held Status.
Scenario:
I am uploading the Shopping Cart Items (Shopping Cart creation) on behalf of my manager. My manager has to approve Shopping Cart.
If shopping cart is created maually and Shopping cart value is within the spending limit, work flow is not triggered approval proceess. If I am creating shopping cart behalf of some one, I am adding the approver manually while creating.
When ever we create shopping cart through custom upload program, the shopping cart needs to be approved by the Requestor (my manager, to cross check shopping cart items). So I want to park the Shopping Cart and I want to add Approver as my manager.
Please suggest me or guide me to get the solution for my issue.

Changing line item delivery address in shopping cart need to reflect same in all line items

I have a requirement that when we change the shopping cart line item delivery address same needs to reflect all line items.
Suppose a shopping cart having 3 line items 1, 2 and 3. if i change the delivery address of line item 1, the same needs to reflect the line item 2 and 3 as well.
In my case if we change the 1's delivery address, after processing its genrating the IDOC on line item wise not in the header wise. And same having the different delivery address.

we can do this changes in BBP_DOC_CHANGE_BADI . Create a Implementation for the above BADI and Inside that Implementation BADI method just call the function module BBP_PD_SC_GETDETAIL for SC item details by passing the Header GUID.
Once you get the Partner table(E_PARTNER) details.. Keeping a loop on SC item(E_ITEM) and change address number(ADDR_NO) in Partner table when Partner function eq X( X is an partner function values which you define in SPRO.).
pseudo logic:
CALL FUNCTION 'BBP_PD_SC_GETDETAIL'
    EXPORTING
      i_guid    = l_guid
    TABLES
      e_item    = lt_item
      e_partner = lt_partner.
* Check for all the line items if vendor is assigned

We have got a requiremrnt to extract a list approvers and approved dates of shopping carts created for a given department and date range.
Is there any standard way to find that?
If we need to create a Z report please let us know the tables invovled.

Each approval step in SRM has got a work item guid and its relevant data stored in few Data tables. You may build a custom report to meet your requirements.
