Do I need to get 300 Senior Managers ?

Do i need to get 300 Oracle Consultant Senior Managers to put 9iAS working, or i just need to burn out the TECHNET CD's ?
I think each day Oracle products are getting worse... I've read 3 times the FAQs, the Release Notes, the Installation Guide, etc, etc, etc and i can put this 9iAS server running...
Install Error reading temp files...
TNS problems in Isuites home only, 806 works fine!
I've tried to install in 9iAS in a clean server with NT4 SP6, with no database. The database (817) it's on a remote computer in the same network!
The install have some problems in reading one or two temp files.. but i gnored them!
When install finished, the SQLPLUS try to access my DB but i get sometimes NLS_LANG problems, and other times TIMEOUT problems... TNSPING works fine...
NLS_LANG problems connecting to database... etc, etc...
ORACLE is getting worse!!! It seems like MS products!

I agree completely - currently I tend to regard IAS as "a mess of great complextity" ;)
I've been working with Webdb 2.2, Portal 3.0 EA and now Portal for about 1 year now.
With Portal 3.0 I had so many problems - mostly with the install/upgrading. And it hasn't become any better recently. Since you can't:
- export your portal data (what you created yourself)
- install a new IAS (new version that is)
- import old portal-data
you are FORCED to REINSTALL the complete IAS in same directory then upgrade the portal as indicated by the docs (btw: why doesn't it use the same settings automatically?).
SO - I just wasted 3 (THREE!) days trying to upgrade from IAS 1.0.2.1 to IAS 1.0.2.0 taking great care to follow every step mention in the guides - including those 45 MB (insane!) zipped scripts for the Portal component (why aren't these includede btw??).
No errors logged, nothing looks wrong. But it just didn't work!
Though I did exactly as told my portal is now DEAD. This SHOULDN'T happen?! I can't see any portal pages - no errors. It just hangs when trying to login and I couldn't find anything to solve this and nobody around here in DK has tried this upgrade (asked Oracle DK... nope). This means only someone in US has ever tried this (since

This is the 3. version I've worked with and the install scripts, readme's is getting more and more complex everyday.
Documentation doesn't always corrospond to the installation either - so I've got used to regard the docs as "sort of" instead of "exactly" like this. A LOT more examples are needed.
I think for sure Oracle must be tired of hearing all this again and again. And I know this post is yet another frustrated technician ;)
But I DO have customers choosing the IAS/Portal. And I really don't know what to say to them when they ask me "How must will it cost to install IAS at our place".
My experience has shown it can take anything from 2-7 days since you keep finding stupid things everywhere which prevents you from progressing. I wish less time was spent on other parts and more on the robustness of the install + running system.
Just think of Micro$soft's service packs ... very simply - very easy. And they work everytime.
True, I could simply take all your DBA+IAS+Portal courses (took some already). Sure - I could use 2 months just installing, testing etc. so I end up knowing everything there is to know about the IAS.
But then you should reduce the price of the package accordingly - NO customer is going to pay BOTH the price of the IAS when the install is so error-prone. We all have timing schedules to match and this is not acceptable. Just about ANY other software package I ever installed of this size WORKED after the install.
Out-of-the-box.
Now - I know it cannot be THAT simple for IAS. And I DO want to help out here if I can!
Believe me, I just want to be able to understand why it looks like Oracle is inadvertly trying to follow MS in the pursuit of more features in their products rather than fixing those features not yet working as they should.
So dear Oracle - this would probably help me (and others):
- WAY FASTER installs (just create a non-java installer that works...)
- more help to the install options (examples, examples, examples...)
- builtins/scripts to export OWN data only
- builtins/scripts to import OWN data only
- able to remove/install indiv. component (apache, jsdk, jserv, portal, login srv)
The abillity to easily export/import data is a must. There shouldn't be this tight integration with the portal30 schema preventing export/upgrade/import. That would have saved us 3 complete reinstalls alone.
Or please tell me HOW I am going to upgrade production portals without taking them offline for 2 days?
I still think Oracle IAS is a excellent idea and possibly a superior product. But these things need fixing now ASAP!
And - Kasper - I disagree with you completely. I wasn't hired by my boss to do research, find and fix bugs for Oracle or ANY other company except our paying customers.
Not that I wont help if I can - but you're dead wrong and way out of line here I think.

I have been successful making calls on Skype but I need to get my cordless phones set up with my home number on Skype. I purchased a Linksys Internet Phone Adapter and it shows it is getting power. But there is no light for Phone# 1 where I have the phone cord hooked up.
This is the way I have it hooked up:
A/C power to back of adapter
Regular phone line wire in Phone#1 from adapter to my cordless base unit
Internet cable wire from adapter to my internet router
The CD had no instant setup instructions on it or how to get the drivers off. I found the model number but couldn't figure out how to get the required info in to my computer.
Can somebody walk me through how to set this up? I'm an 80 yr old lady and all these PDF files looks like it would take somebody with an engineering degree to figure them out. Do you remember that old commercial....."Help! I've fallen and I can't get up!" Well.....that's sorta me.
Can someone please help me?The PAP2T is not compatible with Skype's standard service. It is only compatible with SIP providers and is usually more difficult to configure as well. Skype does support SIP in a business environment with additional hardware at a greater expense, unfortunately that solution really won't work for you. The only standalone device that I'm aware of that is still compatible with Skype is the Freetalk Connect Me (Talk-12xx). It is similar to the device you have but it is designed to work solely with Skype's standard service.

I am trying to just get the Managers of my users in Active Directory. I have gotten it down to the user and their manager, but I don't need the user. Here is my code so far:

MattI would caution that, although it is not likely, managers can also be contact, group, or computer objects. If this is possible in your situation, use Get-ADObject in place of Get-ADUser inside the curly braces.
Also, if you only want users that have a manager assigned, you can use -LDAPFilter "(manager=*)" in the first Get-ADUser.
Finally, if you want all users that have been assigned the manager for at least one user, you can use:

This works because when you assign the manager attribute of a user, this assigns the user to the directReports attribute of the manager. The directReports atttribute is multi-valued (an array in essence).
Again, if managers can be groups or some other class of object (not likely), then use Get-ADObect throughout and identify by distinguishedName instead of sAMAccountName (since contacts don't have sAMAccountName).

How can I get 300 dpi tifs out of webex stills & then worked on in adobe illustrator?
I have been trying to convert images created in webex and transferred to illustrator into 300 dpi tifs. They download as ucf's when generated on white board. Or I have to upload files from other webex participants coming in at 72 dpi, converting them to something bigger in photoshop to paint in before taking them back into the webex session as a doc that then gets worked on further during the session. Later they go into illustrator for some more work with vectors. That's fine for the web but now a publisher wants them as 300 dpi tifs and I can only get things back & forth as 72 dpi pdf's. If I try to bump them up with a resample, they come out teensy weensy. What am I missing and is there any way to make them look good?What I need is to be able to transfer the images between formats without degradation of the resolution and find ways to sharpen what I have even if I can't increase pixels. If the original I'm delivered is a 96 dpi power point slide, for example, that's what I have to work with, I'm using Illustrator to compensate with vectors. But then I still need to get it back to a 300 dpi tiff to meet the specs.

Need to get into Oracle 8i database and don't have credentials
I need to get into an old Oracle 8i database running on Windows 2000 server. I have very limited experience with Oracle. No one who worked with this system is still employed by the company. I'm in the admin & Oracle DBA groups and have tried using
sqlplus <username>/<password> as sysdba
but I get TNS:protocol adaptor error. Oracle services are all running. If I could get in and export the data to a SQL Server machine, I'd be ok. Can anybody assist?

You need to start a cmd window and issue
set local=<servicename in tnsnames.ora>
sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
and this should work.

5ghz Network only way to get 300 mbits?
Just upgraded to one of the new TCs. Most of my wireless tech is b/g but a few of my items, MBP and Xbox have N cards. If I want the fastest speeds possible for those I need to go in and enable the 5ghz network right? Cause after setup i am only connecting @ 130bits. Thanks.
The 300 mbps is a theoretical maximum connection speed and not something you are likely to achieve in practice. With all 802.11x wireless technologies, the router and computer will automatically reduce the connection speed to maintain a reliable connection as the signal strength falls. You'll only get 300 mbps if the computer and router are next to each other. Thus, whilst enabling 5GHz may increase your speed, you are unlikely to achieve 300 mbps and may well get no more than you currently get at 2.4GHz. I have a new Airport Extreme and am currently connection to my iMac at "only" 108mbps - and occasionally at up to 160 mbps - using 5GHz.

Hard drive failed - need to get music off my iPod

I have an iPod Video, 80 gigabyte.
A while back, I had a hard drive fail which was storing all my music to sync to the iPod. Now, I have the music on the iPod, but need to get it back into iTunes, without iTunes deleting the music upon sync.
Is there a way to do this?

PaulConnect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay. -
My PSC 2210 is really acting up and I need to get a new HP. Is there an "all in one" that does a decent job with color slides? I really don't want to buy two units and will only have to copy the slides one time then I will be done. A fax is not mandatory but will use it if there is an "all in one" that will do the slides. My printing needs are simple, personal black and white letter, some color, copy letters and some photos. The PSC 2210 filled all my needs except for not being able to do the slides.

View Solution.By color slides do you mean you want to scan 35mm slides or that you want to print overhead transparencies? Scanning 35mm slides requires a backlight adapter, referred to by HP as a Transparency Media Adapter (TMA). As listed here this feature does not seem to be offered on the recent HP all-in-one units, it is available in some specialized photo scanners.

I have this procedure where i have to modify the current procedure in the following manner:
I need to get rid of the variables p_start and p_end so that i cannot see them in the crystal report and include the Frequency in the procedure to get the Data based on the Dates.
and Main requirement is" If the Frequency is Quarterly " it should get the previous quarter Data, if "Frequency is monthly" it should return the previous month data.Can anyone please let me know where shud i make changes. Am including the procedure for refernce. Any help is appreciated

In PL/SQL, "declare" means state (at the beginning of a block) that there will be a certain variable with a certain name (such as v_startdate) and datatype (such as DATE). You're already declaring the variables v_startdate and v_enddate correctly, right before the BEGIN statement.
Declaring a variable is not the same as initializing it, that is, giving it a value for the first time. Your next question seems to be about initializing..

I have a macbook air bought in 2010. It has liquid damage that might or might not affected the SSD card. I need the data on my SSD card for work and I need it urgently. Apparently Apple won't get the data out, even if I have apple care... Licensed apple dealers need to have the same macbook air model so they can insert the SSD card and check whether the data is there, and they never seem to have one...
I'm really disappointed with apple. It's been two weeks and I haven't been able to find out whether the SSD card is holding my data. It can't take that long to do it in store... How can they sell a product and then wash their hands on the matter?
Anyway, enough with the apple rant. I need to get this data urgently so I need to find out how I can get it out of the card. The SSD card and data might be fine so I don't want to take it to a data recovery centre and get charged loads.

I have an older iPhone (3gs) and need to upgrade to a newer phone (4S). I need to get my NOTES, CALENDAR, CONTACTS, PICTURES, etc backed up on iTunes so I can get that data loaded onto the new phone. But not sure how to do that. When I open iTunes it has a button that say "Back Up iPhone", but I'm not sure what that does. When I go into the sync options it say I have another user account and asks me if I want to merge of replace. I'm assuming it's trying to tell me I have an older iTunes Library, but don't know that. Geez, maybe people over 60 shouldn't have iPhones, iTunes just bafles me.
