How do you turn off silence?  I only have 2 options either to silence everything at all times or to silence incoming calls and notifications when my phone is locked.  I do NOT want any silence.

Make sure they are all turned off.

  • Does do not disturb silence reminders?

I NEED TO KNOW. I looked it up but it didn't work

You have no make sure that the "Silence" setting is on always.
    To do that follow:
Settings > Do Not Disturb > Silence > Always

  • Do not disturb vs alarm

Does the do not disturb setting make it so alarms do not go off with ios 7?

    For iOS 7 usrs guide:
Use Do Not Disturb. To silence FaceTime calls, alerts, and notifications, swipe up from the bottom
edge of the screen to open Control Center, then tap . See Do Not Disturb on page 28.
    Do Not Disturb
Do Not Disturb is an easy way to silence iPod touch, whether you’re going to dinner or to sleep.
It keeps FaceTime calls and alerts from making any sounds or lighting up the screen.
Turn on Do Not Disturb. Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen to open Control Center,
then tap . When Do Not Disturb is on, appears in the status bar.
Note: Alarms still sound, even when Do Not Disturb is on. To make sure iPod touch stays silent,
    turn it off.
Configure Do Not Disturb. Go to Settings > Do Not Disturb.
You can schedule quiet hours, allow calls from your Favorites or groups of contacts, and allow
repeated calls to ring through for those emergency situations. You can also set whether Do Not
Disturb silences iPod touch only when it’s locked, or even when it’s unlocked.

  • Do Not Disturb doesn't work!

    New iPhone 5S
    iOS 7.0.1 (latest)
Do Not Disturb does NOT work! It still lets in calls.  I have tried all the settings to no avail.  Even selecting block every call, all the time, the moon icon is showing, but the calls still come through!
What the?!  Come on Apple... this is not rocket science.  I've embarassed myself in public settings because this easy feature is broken!

I think you are correct. Page 31 of the manual says:

  • My iPad does not ring when locked.  How can I take off the tick in the silence do not disturb

In the do not disturb box is a tick for silence when iPad is locked.  Therefore I do not know when I am being called as there is no ringing sound.  Can anyone help please.

If you change Settings > Do Not Disturb > Allow Calls From (e.g. to allow from 'Everyone') then it should still ring if the iPad is locked.
For the 'Only While iPad is locked' and 'Always' options on that screen, one of those two has to be ticked.

Chris thanks for your reply, if none of the Do Not Disturb settings are switched on - then am I right that this setting will have no effect. I.e. I want my phone to ring at all times, so have turned off all of the do not disturb settings

  • HT5463 Don't understand the Silence section in Do Not Disturb.  I do NOT want to silence calls at any time.  How do I achieve this?

Don't understand the Silence section in Do Not Disturb.  I do NOT want to silence the phone at all.  I have entered Allow Calls from 'Everyone".

If you do not want to silence the phone at all, you just need to set both Manual and Sheduled to off (not green). Those two switches turn Do Not Disturb on and off. The "Silence" section is only relevant when Do Not Disturb is On and determines whether it is active only while the screen is locked and Do Not Disturb is On or at all times that Do Not Disturb is On. Also, if Do Not Disturb is Off, it doesn't matter what the "Allow calls from" is set to.
If Do Not Disturb is On you will see a moon icon on the right side of the status bar (somewhere left of the battery %). More information at: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5463

  • How do I remove silence feature in do not disturb

I need to lock the 4S so to not butt dial, accidentally send messages etc when phone is in pocket, messenger bag.  When I do this notifications, i.e calendar reminders are not audible.  Do not disturb is not enabled.  My only choice at bottom of DND screen in SILENCE area is 'ALways' or "only When IPhone is locked"  How do I disable this?

You stated that DND was not enabled.
Therefore any settings in DND are irrelevant.
There is no Never in the Silence section of DND because it defeats the purpose of DND.
I think you are misunderstanding DND.
    iOS: Using Do Not Disturb
Essentially turning off DND is the Never Silence option.

  • HT5463 Using Do Not Disturb, will my alarm sound, but silence calls, texts and notifications?

If I use Do Not Disturb, will my alarm sound, but silence text, and calls?

Actually Alarm will NOT sound. Tested today, by being late to work because of this. As far as I understand, the best workaround is to schedule the DND function to turn off right before the alarm.
Then there is something wrong with your device. I've done repeated tests on a variety of devices. The alarm sounds. You have to be using the built in Clock app.
Have you tried resetting your device? Force closing the Clock app? Have you made sure that the volume was turned up?
    Best of luck.

  • Do Not Disturb turned on, call got through after being silenced 7 times

    Hi all,
I scheduled DND to automatically turn on every night and it's been working fine until tonight. Someone called me during the night and after 7 missed (silenced) calls, the 8th got through. Fortunately I was not asleep yet but it was very irritating as I don't like being disturbed at night.
"Repeated calls" has always been and is still disabled; the 8 calls took place within 16 minutes and came from the same number, which was not in my favorite (it wasn't even in my contacts) so I really don't know what went wrong.
I was not using the phone at the time so I'm sure it was locked.
Has this happened to anyone else?

  • Do not disturb is rejecting calls instead of silencing

    Hello fellow iphone users,
I've the new iPhone 5 running iOS 6. I noticed when I turn on the do not disturb settings, my incoming calls are rejected after rining once instead of actually being silenced. So when that happens, the caller calls me again and then my phone rings (as the same caller calls within the 3 min time frame). I would like my phone to alert me during repeated calls so that my family/friends can call me during an emergency not while I'm busy at work.
Is the call being rejected a bug or is this how it's suppose to work? I thought the call would come through but the phone's ringer wouldn't be turned off and the screen wouldn't light up.
Does the same thing happen to you guys as well?
    Many thanks for your help

  • How Secure is my iPhone/  provide automatic re-enable of a phone that has set do not disturb.

There are many articles about how smart phones can be hacked to do things not desired.  One I saw discussed recently is that a Smart Phone when turned on
can be send codes to put it in eavesdropping mode where the phone is asking as a transmitter of what is said near it to a phone connection opened by the codes
    sent to turn it on.
One workaround suggested in some discussions was to require everyone to remove the battery from their phone so there is no power for eavesdropping.  Obviously this won't work on an iPhone since the batteries are not removable.  Does the phone provide protection from having eavesdropping instructions from being sent to it?  Is there a way to temporarily disable the phone so it won't respond to such attempts?  If the phone is fully shut down (hold the button down until the turn off option appears and you slide the slide bar to turn it off.  Will it still respond to signals sent to it via the telephone connection or blue tooth link?  Is there a simple way to turn off that capability which allows the user to turn it back on easily when in possession of the phone?
There is a feature to disable receiving calls or messages during a period selected in settings where you give the start and stop of the do not disturb function.
However, I find Do Not Disturb sadly lacking.  If I go into  meeting for theater and am asked to silence my phone Do Not Disturb seems perfect for that need.  However the next morning when my coworkers ask why my phone is disabled, I have to admit I forgot to turn it back on.  What I really need is an option from the easy settings to disable no longer than 2 hours (length of the meeting, concern, movie, dinner party, etc.  then I do not need to remember to turn it back on.
If I set the start and stop time for the do not disturb option for now, if I don't remember to clear it, mu phone will re-enable at the right time but the next day it will go "dark" for the same interval even if I am free.  Was this feature ever tested using real people doing real life situations?  I found holes in the design and easy ways Apple could fix them.  But they keep ignoring my suggestions.
It seems if a feature idea did not come from the design team, the design team does not deign to read and evaluated decent ideas from customers.  I have talked with a number of long term iPhone users who would like such a feature.  I don't know if the competition is doing anything like it.

This is a user-to-user support forum. A good place for suggestions to Apple is https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

  • I have a frustrating problem with my iPhone 5 post ios8 installation. The ring tone won't sound when phone is locked/switched off, although the vibration does work. I think it has something to do with "do not disturb"

Hi, I have a frustrating problem that seems to have occurred post iOS 8 installation. When my iphone5 is switched off the ring tone fails to sound i only get the vibration. If i am using my phone and a have an incoming call then the ring tone works as normal. I think it has something to do with "do not disturb" ... i see from the menu in "do not disturb" that under the heading "silence" there are two options "always" and "only when the phone is locked" This does not seem to make sense as i have to choose one or the other!
If anybody can help advise me on this problem i would be very grateful.
    Thanks

    Hello Mogulman46,
So what that means is when you have Do Not Disturb turned on, you may have an alert depending on the setting and how you are using your iPhone. So if it is set to Always, then that means that no matter what, your iPhone will not be notified. If it set to Only while the iPhone is locked, then that means that you will not get notification when your iPhone is locked but you will get notifications if your iPhone is being used. Also keep in mind the settings All Calls From can be set to certain contacts like Favorites, Everyone or no one. If you are using Do Not Disturb and you do not need it, then turn it off.
Use Do Not Disturb on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
