Do we need DPS?

I am preparing to build an interactive experience/app for a client. They will have several (2-3) iPads always running the app, for customers to use and browse various products offered, as well as a mobile version of their website. It's basically meant to be a digital catalog, with a bit more interactivity. The app won't be available for public use, other than on the devices while they are visiting our client's office.
The plan is to create the app using InDesign CC, and install onto the iPads which will then be placed at a kiosk in at least one office. There may be expansion in the future, placing kiosks into each of their offices.
My question is: Do we need DPS to install the app, once built, onto multiple iPads/devices for in-house use? If so, which version?
Does it even need to be an app, or could an interactive PDF work just as well on an iPad?
Thanks in advance...

If you’re content to use the Adobe Content Viewer you’ve got everything you already need.
If you want a branded app you’ll need an Enterprise account.

  • Need DPS Desktop Tools old version to replace 2.06 update

Can Adobe or anyone tell me how I can get a download of the previous update to DPS desktop tools (2.05?) - that is, the one previous to Jan 25 2013 2.06 update.
There's a bug in the update with embedding iFrames, and  I'm on deadline for an app that uses several iFrames.
I really need to get the last version reinstated, where iFrames were working just fine.
The official line is "We've confirmed there's an issue with iframe-hosted content produced with the v25 tools. This is, unfortunately, how youtube videos are hosted in folios. We are working on a fix." (No time given)

I'm upset that the update code wasn't checked before release.
My client is a weekly newspaper using many iFrames. I have a deadline in 6 hours.
    Can you suggest a workaround?
I've tried embedding old html style code with no effect. Have also tried using HTML from BrightCove no effect.

  • Help needed, DPS iPad app private distribution

    Hi all.
I need some help. I have built a single edition iPad app that is a training manual that my client needs to distribute only to customers that have bought a training course. So the app needs to be distributed privately.
Will this work if my client buys a volume purchasing programme ? Do I need to then buy an enterprise account in order to use the B2B distribution? Or is there any other way of getting the app to their customers without these?
Look forward to hearing from any of you.
    Thanks
    Gavin

Hi Gavin You need an enterprise account to distribute privately, unless you are happy using the adobe content viewer. No other way cheers Alistair

  • DPS Pro in India please...

Trying to buy Adobe DPS Pro license in India, and being told it can't be sold as there's not a single reseller in India right now, and the product is not available on Adobe Store (India) for online purchase.
Can someone please guide or advice me how to buy DPS Pro, or connect me to someone from Adobe or reselling community to facilitate this. Also, need DPS PRO only, and NOT DPS ENTERPRISE edition.
Seems when it comes to DPS, you need to know workarounds not only for using the product, but also to buy it, even at MRP...

  • 2nd try - DPS 7 dpadm add-virtual-transformation not working as expected

    I use DPS 7.0 B2009.1104.2146 on RHEL 4 update 8. (32 bits)
I have an LDAP back-end where X509 user certificates are stored in either the usercertificate;binary attribute or the certAuth;binary attribute.
I want my DPS to authenticate users thanks to their personal certificate, with SASL external BIND method. So, I need DPS 7 to be able to
search the user certificate in two different attributes.
Since it's not possible, (the cert-search-user-attr property is single-valued, unfortunately ), I 've tried to setup a virtual transformation, to
have both physical attribute values in a single virtual attribute.
The problem is that both physical attributes have the ";binary" qualifier and DPS doesn't seem to like it.
When searching for the virtual attribute through DPS, DPS creates and return it, but I get garbage/wrong values:
    Transformation configuration:
    -bash-3.00$ dpconf get-virtual-transformation-prop vue-P0 mapping_add-attr_certauth
    action : add-attr
    attr-name : certauth;binary
    internal-value : none
    model : mapping
    view-value : ${usercertificate;binary}
LDAP search straight to the LDAP back-end:
    -bash-3.00$ ldapsearch -p myport -h myldaphost -b "dc=my namingcontext" cn=sslconnect
    version: 1
    dn: cn=sslconnect.gip-cps.fr,......

    Hi there
I'm having exactly the same problem here (AIR 3.6, Flash Builder 4.7). But somehow I don't really feel comfortable to write my own LocalizationManager when there's a built-in solution around. So I'm still trying to find the problem.
I noticed that when I update the compiler argument (-locale=en_US,de_DE ), the ResourceManager *sometimes* switches the language, but somehow randomly and definitely not based the value set for localeChain.
Furthermore, ResourceManager.getInstance().getLocales() does not return anything.
The strange thing: Even when I do not include the localization resources ('locale/{locale}' in ActionScript Build Path -> Source Path) the resources in 'locale/en_US' or 'locale/de_DE' are available to the ResourceManager.
    Anyone with similar experiences?
    I'm grateful for any hint!

  • Monetizing Publications Created through DPS

Apologies if this has found itself in the wrong thread, but I have searched throughout without much luck to my question.
Basically, I have just released an "app" via iTunes that was created in DPS, and I'd like to now make this available for free whilest, of course, monetizing through ad placements.  Through both Apple and Google SDK for ad placements (iAd, AdMob/Adsense) it is quite obviouse that these require extensive coding knowledge and that the app itself is something that can be coded to include the ad call.
Is there a widget/overaly thingie/HTML call or other simple ability within DPS to just call ads from providers?  Can this product enable publications to be monetized through ad placements via the likes of Google or Apple, or is it limited to more traditional print-to-web/PDF page ads?
    Thanks in advance.

You need a Mac to install DPS APP Builder and use DPS App Builder to build the Android Application (.apk). You also need DPS Professional or Enterprise edition for building an Android Application. The export in DPS workflow does not work in Android applications.

  • Is DPS right for me?

Alright so I'm new to digital publishing. I'm a graphic designer looking to push the company I work for into the mobile app world. Eventually I would like to publish our materials in the app store. However, I don't know that the company I work for is ready to commit to a subscription based product like DPS. Eventually I know we will have to in order to make the app available in say Apple's App Store, but I want to know if it is absolutely necessary for me at this moment.
My goal right now is to create a somewhat interactive project that can be viewed on my iPad and then try and use that project to pitch the idea of publishing to the App store within the company I work for. I want to create a newsletter with menus and simple animations...and perhaps have video and photo slideshows as well...just as any digital publication on Apple's app store. It doesn't have to be available to the public just yet. I just need a completed interactive project that will play on my iPad for the moment.
After going through the DPS page, I wasn't exactly clear on whether or not I needed a digital publishing suite subscription right away or if just purchasing the CS5.5 upgrade would give me the tools I needed. So my question is that. Will InDesign CS5.5 give me all the tools I need to create a digital publication that I can view and interact with on MY iPad? OR do I need DPS?
Also, does DPS give me ANY additional tools to make my digital publications MORE interactive?
Any help you guys here on the boards can give me would be so very greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jose

Thanks guys! I heard back from an Adobe consultant today that helped me lots as well.
So, basically, no I don't need DPS at this time. As mentioned above, it's only when I want to publish to the app store that I will need to subscribe to one of the DPS packages. InDesign CS5 has all the tools that I'll need to create a dynamic interactive presentation that I can show my supervisor on my iPad. Actually the tools are free downloads, Folio producer and Folio Builder:
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/
Once you've installed those free plugins...and the Adobe Content Viewer app, you're good to go.
    Thanks all!

  • Adobe DPS and Videos

Does the updated Adobe DPS allow for videos to be embedded in the version of the publication that is meant for web sites/viewing on a MAC/PC?

DPS was recently integrated with CCM wherein you can publish as many Built in Single Edition App as you want. But to be able to built multi issue app, and a lot more publishing solution you need the Pro or Enterprise. Go through this buying guide comparisonfor more clarity. Please note, DPS integration with CCM is not a complete publishing solution. DPS with CCM is an addtional benifit for CCM users in a way.
Infact if you do just Demo alone with the Adobe Content Viewer, you don't need DPS at all. You just need Indesign CS5/CS5.5/CS6
But if you are publishing live apps to appstore, you need DPS to be able to do that. And depending on what type of content is published live, you either need DPS single edition/CCM/Pro/Enterprise.
If you are to publish just one single issue/app, Single Edition or CCM will suffice
If you are to publish mutiple Built in Single isssue app you need CCM
If you are to publish multiple multi-isssue apps you need the Pro or Enterprise

  • Creative Cloud member wants to publish multi-folios for a client...

    Hello everyone,
I did send this question as a"private message" first and did receive some answers that I would like to share here. Big thank you to both Himanshu and Bob!!!  If someone feels like adding more info regarding the subject please do.
"I’m the Adobe Creative Cloud member (one year subscription) and as such I’m entitled to publish a Single Edition app through my Digital Publishing Suite. Now, I have just been approached by one printed magazine, here in Vancouver, Canada, and I’m suppose to provide them with an estimate for adapting their publication for the iPad. Before I start thinking about my fee I would like to know what we have to pay to Adobe. They have four issues per year and I guess this goes under multi-folio applications category. Now, the questions:
    1. Can I prepare the folios with my Creative Cloud membership or I have to upgrade to Professional edition of the DPS?
    2. Does my client need to purchase the Professional Edition of DPS or not?
    3. Or, we need only one license of the Professional Edition and if so who’s is that license going to be?
    4. Or, I’m talking nonsense and you can just explain me how this works, please?
    Have a wonderful day."
    Regards,
    Dragan, Vancouver
    Himanshu Singh :
You would need to upgrade to DPS Professional Edition for multi Folio Applications. DPS Pro is $495 per month + taxes. Also you have download fees applicable. You get 250 free downloads per month for the first year and  for any additional downloads, you need to purchase Folio Bundle. Approximately, each Folio Download will cost you $ .30, so you can charge you client that amount per folio download + DPS Pro contract fees.
If your Customer purchases DPS Pro, you can read this article to know how to work with them : http://www.adobe.com/devnet/digitalpublishingsuite/articles/customer-a gency-dps-workflows.html
    Now regarding your questions.
    1. Can I prepare the folios with my Creative Cloud membership or I have to upgrade to Professional edition of the DPS?
You need DPS Pro for creating Multi-Issue Applications. With CC, you can create Built in single apps. For Magazine with at least 4 issues per year, it’s best to go for Pro edition.
    2. Does my client need to purchase the Professional Edition of DPS or not?
Either you or your client can purchase DPS Pro depending upon your contract with the client. You Client needs to get themselves Apple iOS Developer account.
    3. Or, we need only one license of the Professional Edition and if so who’s is that license going to be?
    4. You need one DPS Pro Contract. You can create unlimited number of apps and account using one License.
    Bob Bringhurst :
In this case, I believe that your client would need to pay for DPS. Have you seen the DPS Getting Started Guide? There's a section about understanding IDs and roles.

  • In-house video distribution solution

Hi, I'm helping a friend set up a new video production studio and I need some ideas on how to distribute video from several sources to several different locations through out the studio.
We are thinking that we would like to be able to switch between up to 4 different sources:
-2 Macs (running Final Cut Pro)
    -Video Camera
    -DVD Player
We have about 8 TVs we need to distribute video to. All have HDMI inputs but only RG6 is run to each TV. Wireless HD would be very useful for the one monitor on the studio floor but it seems like it's still a few months away.
Ultimately, we would like to be able to send different sources to different outputs...i.e., send the output from one of the macs to two side monitors, send the output from the DVD to the main lobby monitor, send the output from the camera to the studio floor monitor.
I wouldn't mind if everything is controlled by the mac but a standalone device would be fine as well.
Any hints, pointers, solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time and help!

You would need DPS Enterprise contract and Apple Enterprise ($299) account for this. You can create 'Enterprise Signed Builds' with DPS Enterprise edition which you can distribute in-house without adding any UDID's.
Without DPS Enterprise Edition, only way is to manually add (Upto 100) device UDID's in provisioning files, which is a time consuming task and not fit for large organizations.

  • AQ and RAC; how does it scale?

I'm investigating AQ in a multi-node RAC cluster. Word from inside Oracle is that a queue should only be accessed by a single instance; they say that 'hot spot' activity in the tail and head of a queue will cause performance problems if the queue is accessed by more than one instance.
I think this means that we will either need to have multiple queues to support the (fairly) high anticipated traffic, or we'll need better hardware - the application will need to be partitioned.
Has anyone seen this in action? Anyone running AQ in RAC with multi-thousand message/minute throughput?
    Thanks for your input,
    Justin

Take a look at this documentation which should answer most of your questions: https://www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/products/digital-publishing-suite-enterprise/pd fs/dps-entitlement-wp-ue.pdf
You would need DPS Enterprise for this and you would need to set up your Direct Entitlement Server, build the customer database etc.. Once users are entitled to the folio(s), they can sign in and download their entitled folios.

  • Make a folio for every device

    Hi,
I want to publish a folio for every device. I have made one for the iPad 3 (2048x1536px, PDF) and now I want to publish this on devices like iphone, nexus 10, iPad 2 etc.
    But how to do this?
If I create a folio in the resulution of the iPad 2 it will also be visible on the iPad 3, but not on the Galaxy S2 because of the PDF. If I create it as JPEG it works on iPad 3 + iPad 2 + Galaxy S2 but without zooming and thats important for me (because of details).
So how to make a folio for every device which can view folios?
    Greetings

You need DPS ( Professional Or Enterprise ) edition.

  • Private publication from Single Edition?

    Hello.
I'm developing a couple of brochures for a company that wants them to be downloaded to their iPads sellers, but they don't want them to be visible for everyone. May I use Single Editions to publish the brochures and make them private, so only users with a password may download them?
    Thanks, regards!

With DPS single edition, private/internal distribution of your app is not possible. You need DPS Enterprise to be able to do that.
Anyone can create and share folios with anyone regradless of whether you own DPS or not. But the sahring feature is meant for content proofing and approval from colleagues/Boss/anyone (pre-production proofing workflow) and may not cater your private distribution needs.
Wnat to know more about folio sharing, go here http://help.adobe.com/en_US/digitalpubsuite/using/WS9293e1fb3b977c5c7b1f65ad12f28224932-7f ff.html#WS9293e1fb3b977c5c7b1f65ad12f28224932-7ffb

  • Creating personal iPad apps

I currently have InDesign CS6 and would like to use it to create iPad apps to showcase portfolio experience and share with clients. I do not need this to be published to the Apple store, but rather would like to use it within our office and to share with clients. Do I need DPS in order to achieve this, or is that only required for large-scale publishing? I'm unfamiliar with the publishing process and what is required for that. Thank you!

Thank you, Bob. I had hoped this would be the case. I just tried playing around with making a test app to see if it worked, though, and when I go to preview it does not show the connected iPad as an option for viewing. A dialog pops up saying to make sure that Viewer is open on the connected device (which it is), so I'm not sure why it wouldn't see the device. Is this perhaps because I am working on a Windows machine instead of a Mac? Any help is appreciated - thank you!

The requirements for Enterprise Signed viewer app are iOS Developer Enterprise Program and DPS Enterprise Edition?
It is possble to built an Enterprise Signed viewer app rith DPS Professional Edition?
    shimoawazu

You need DPS Enterprise Edition and iOS Developer Enterprise program to create enterprise signed builds. You cannot create Enterprise signed builds using DPS Professional Edition.
