In-house video distribution solution

Hi, I'm helping a friend set up a new video production studio and I need some ideas on how to distribute video from several sources to several different locations through out the studio.
We are thinking that we would like to be able to switch between up to 4 different sources:
-2 Macs (running Final Cut Pro)
-Video Camera
-DVD Player
We have about 8 TVs we need to distribute video to. All have HDMI inputs but only RG6 is run to each TV. Wireless HD would be very useful for the one monitor on the studio floor but it seems like it's still a few months away.
Ultimately, we would like to be able to send different sources to different outputs...i.e., send the output from one of the macs to two side monitors, send the output from the DVD to the main lobby monitor, send the output from the camera to the studio floor monitor.
I wouldn't mind if everything is controlled by the mac but a standalone device would be fine as well.
Any hints, pointers, solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time and help!

You would need DPS Enterprise contract and Apple Enterprise ($299) account for this. You can create 'Enterprise Signed Builds' with DPS Enterprise edition which you can distribute in-house without adding any UDID's.
Without DPS Enterprise Edition, only way is to manually add (Upto 100) device UDID's in provisioning files, which is a time consuming task and not fit for large organizations.

    judykpete,
try visiting this Adobe page — does it show that some version of Flash is currently installed on your MacBook Pro, or does just a grey box show? If it’s the latter, then you’ll need to install Flash; instructions to do so can be found further down on that same page.

    Hi
As long as this is new instalation I recommend you to use SIP on all of the end points where possible and integrate with CUCM using sip trunk this will give you two main benefits
    - the transformation of the called and calling number from and to CUCM will be easier
-if have end point using H323 and communicating with other end using sip the vcs will do internetworking to this call and you will need license for each internetworked call plus the media path will go through the vcs not direct between end points for internetworking
If you use sip make the end point name/sip usri as [email protected]  Calls from vcs to CUCM use search rules with trsformation so if end point dial 123456 only from vcs and the default call is sip vcs will send it to CUCM as 123456@sip domain.com you need to do transformation before sending it to CUCM and send it as 123456@cucmip.
This is just in brief and also using the expersss way you can have your sip domain registered over the Internet and configure dns srv record point sip ton the vcs public ip and Internet calls can come to your end point sip name directly no need to publish ip to others to dial you

  • Live video distribution using CDN

I am planning a ACNS/CDN deployment that will based around web-caching, prepos content, VOD's and Live Video distribution for town hall meetings to Corporate sites.
I have completed the ACNS training and have a good picture of what I am going to be doing. The only real concern I have surrounds the distribution of VOD's and the Live streaming to potentially thousands of clients at each corporate site.
My plan was to allow content acquistion (for VOD's and Live Broadcasts) across the WAN using Unicast streams to each of the WAE edge devices (Easy stuff). For the distribution to the LAN (which could be 500+ users) I figured I would enable Multicasting (IGMP snooping, not so easy?) I have never worked with Multicast but have assosciates who have, should i expect performance hits to the LAN? or is this the recommended form of distribution?
I have purchased the proper licenses to accomplish this but before I move forward with this strategy I thought I would check here to see if anyone has done a deployment like this, I would love to hear some feedback both postive and negative.
The CDN will consist of two tiers, with the top level sites having WAE-7326's and WAE-612's at the second tier. All sites have an average of 10Mbs links with ISR enabled routers and a collapsed backbone design in the core.
    Thanks!

You can't override the physical camera and substitute the macbook camera.
You could find an app or write one that would have the macbook stream the video over wifi from the macbook to the iPad.

  • Video Surveillance Solution

    Hi,
I would like to have a video surveillance solution assistance for quoting a project. As per the client requirement, I have already selected the camera to use. There are going to have 8 cameras, with model VC220, VC240 and PVC300. However, the client is insisting on having those "Navigating and Zooming Joystick" for monitoring purposes. I have been going through Cisco solutions for that "joystick" and check its datasheet but I could not found it. Grateful if someone can help. Its quite urgent.
    Thanks

    Hi Javed,
Thank you for posting. Please search the Video Monitoring System Admin Guide for the word "joystick". I think you will find what you need. You can view the Admin Guide at the following link:

  • Mass HD Video Storage Solutions

I am trying to decide how I should go about choosing a storage solution for large amounts of HD video in a new editing studio we are building.
An xServe is already a definite purchase because we like the scheduling abilities for company resources in iCal, and would also like our Mail in house. That...and we are Mac fans.
Our real concern and my question here is this. What would you suggest our answer to storing all of our HD video be. We would like to keep an archive of all our raw video coming off of the cameras, but realize how many TBs we will be looking at.
We will be recording around 40 hours of HD video per week and over time this number will continue to grow. You can see how many TBs of video we will be building up. Until now we have been burning all of our archives to BluRay but we would like for our video to be searchable and more accessible.
What is the best mass storage solution without being ridiculously expensive? (although we realize expensive may be the answer to our problem)
Cost aside, what would be the best storage solution to purchase. We were looking at the Promise RAID. We figured it would be smarter to purchase a mass RAID array instead of continuing to purchase multiple xServes whose capacity max out at 6TB.
Also, what are the strengths of adding XSAN to the mixture?
Thank you all in advance for your help.

Your Vixia shoots AVCHD, and while not uncompressed HD (230 MB/s), it will need to be trans-coded into ProRes (17-18 MB/s) for you to edit it in Final Cut which will take up some space. I use AVCHD a lot, and at 1920x1080 @29.97 you'll need about 65GB per hour of trans-coded ProRes footage. If you can get away with ProRes LT or Proxy, you will make it even easier on yourself.
If you have to have all of your footage available for editing this will come at a premium as disk space is more expensive than storing to tape. You mentioned you'll be recording 40 hours per week; at that rate you will need have some sort of archive solution or a massive budget to keep it all on spinning disks.
In the end though, it all still comes down to what your requirements are for editing. Do you have one editor or ten? How many video streams will they need to be able to edit at one time? If it's more than about two (3-4 is pretty typical) and you have more than 2-3 editors, you are rapidly heading for Xsan land. And a big one at that. A basic Xsan with a couple of Promise RAIDs can cost $75,000 or more.
You could get a number of Promise chassis and daisy chain them together using SAS, but this won't scale beyond five units, and your total bandwidth will be limited by the single fibre RAID controller they are all connected to at the top.
If you are on a budget you might want to look at something like this:
    http://maxxdigital.com/shop/index.php?cPath=137
They daisy-chain together using SAS. If you connect the head unit to an Xserve using SAS as well, you can then share out your data using Gigabit ethernet, or if you have the budget, 10GigE which is fast enough to edit several streams of ProRes. Maxx has a popular system called Final Share that will allow you to get a lot of data out to several edit stations fairly affordably.

  • Is there a COMPONENT video OUT solution for the iBook?

I am currently using Apple's Video Adapter (mini-VGA to S-Video) to hook up to my widescreen. Let's face it, S-Video *****. I am trying to find a solution that would allow me to get component video out of my iBook and run that into my widescreen.
Is there a VGA->Component Video Adapter available that would work with the mini-VGA -> VGA adapter that ships with the iBook? (Or some other way to get a component video signal?)
    Thanks!
    iBook G4 1.2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   1.25 GB RAM

    Hi Mactivist,
i am not an expert on this video stuff but I think
you might find this useful. Although the
procedure described is about a Mac Mini (which has a
dvi connector) the guy actually used a DVI-VGA
adapter. Therefore, I believe, the set-up described
    should work for you too.
    -Petra
Unfortunately, iBooks do not have DVI out. What I really need is a VGA to Component video adapter.
And for the person who wasn't sure what a component video cable looks like, this is a cable that has 3 rca-like plugs on it, each one supplies a different color (RGB I think).
So far, I've not found a VGA adapter that can do this unless you are using an ATI video card as the source.

  • Seeking a batch video processing solution

Let me just say right up front that video editing is not my strong suit at all. I'm much more familiar with print and graphics.
That being said, I'm trying to find a batch processing solution to take hundreds of 10-30 minute videos and cut them up into 3 minute clips. I was thinking this was a Premier (or Pro?) task, although it was mentioned to me that maybe I should be looking to use After Effects for this?
Anyhow, the source files are primarily WMV and MPG with a few AVIs mixed in, and we want to export to FLV. Since you can batch process images from bridge using photoshop actions, I was hoping there was something similar that could be done using Premier.
Thanks for any help you can give.
    Dave

Actually, I no longer use that software
While it DOES work with the Dv500 card in WinXp, I found it to be very "fragile" in operation... every time a really old VHS tape hit a marginal spot, Scenalyzer would die... and not very gracefully
Now, using dual boot with Win2k to be able to run Premiere 6 with the Dv500, I am able to digitize even REALLY old VHS tapes without the capture stopping every time a marginal spot hits the VCR head
Since the demo version is free (albeit with a watermark on output files until it is registered) it will be easy for the OP to download and test

  • Need inexpensive video monitoring solution -

Hi. I just started my first HD job (720p 60) and it also happens to be the first job I've cut on Final Cut in a very long time so I'm VERY rusty with FC software and am pretty clueless about hardware issues. I can handle getting up to speed with the software, but I"m hoping to get a little help with the hardware issues.
    Here's my first one.
I digitized the footage onto my drives at my client's place using their DVCPRO HD deck. Now I've taken the digitized material back to my place to edit on my system. I'm running FC 5.1.2 on a G5 (dual 2.3 GhZ). I have no additional video interface hardware (unless you count my mojo, which of course is for my Avid software). I need to figure out an inexpensive solution that will allow me to monitor my editing on either a consumer or pro video monitor. I really can't afford to spend the $$$ on a KONA card right now and I"m wondering if anyone can offer a simpler, cheaper solution. Can I somehow break out the video via firewire?? Is there a less expensive "break out box" for FCP? Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance
    Mike

First, thanks to everybody who is tossing ideas in the ring.
OK, can use the ADS 'cause it's not HD...got it. Seems like the Matrox MXO
    is the better option.
But...if I"m spending $1000 on the MXO, for a little more can't I just buy the aja kona LHe and get similar capability?
I mean if I have to spend around $1000 anyway...I'd rather kick in a few hundred more for a more streamlined solution.
And by the way...I can get my hands on a HD capable monitor
    (just asking)
    thanks again
    Mike

  • Video Sharing Solution (like YouTube)

We have a community web site and am looking for a ColdFusion video solution. What we are looking to do is implement a "YouTube" style application where users can upload and manage their videos on our site. Other users can rate them and also comment on them. Also need to be able to create "channels" for our users and advertisers/sponsors. We would also like the ability to add pre-roll video ads from our advertisers if necessary. We currently run CF9 and have a SQL 2005 backend. We also have Flash Media Server and a commercial FlowPlayer license. Does anyone have a recomendation for this? I have found some PHP solutions out there (e.g. http://clip-bucket.com/) but no CF solutions. We would even be looking for a potential contractor that would have experience in this if no existing solution is available. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated!

I bet these kinds of applications are now appearing like mushrooms in the autumn forest, since Internet Video is now the Word.
I'm quite unsure if ColdFusion based video/webTV applications exist, but I'm currently working on one, full-time, as a partner in a startup.
We're using FlowPlayer as well, but Wowza Media Server instead of Adobe's (to provide wider options for streaming formats (mobile devices), and cost-reasons too).
I've already constructed an application which allows file uploads, generates video thumbnails, transcodes to several H.264/mpeg2/other streams, etc.
We're currently at "alpha" stage, while I'm cracking the rest of the Wowza Server API as to manage webTV streams and schedules in real time.
We're aiming for a full-featured CMS with strong integrated webtv/video features, combined with social features (the like you mentioned), channel branding, advertising, pay-per-view videos, live broadcast support, and the stuff.
So, at the moment, I cannot give you much further help than "Yes, it's possible with ColdFusion", and yes, I can help you on general level with best practices and such - although I have to remind you again, I have no experience on Adobe's Flash server, just Wowza's.

  • ITunes hang each time I tried to play video, any solution?

    Hi All,
I'm currently using the latest iTunes to sync my iPhone & iPad on Windows 7 PC.
each time I tried to play video or iTunes U or anything related with video it will crash and I will have to force quit the software.

I'm trying to set up 3 way video conferencing between:
    1) G4/1.67 Powerbook
    2) G4/800 PB

Disappointed to learn that not only can the 1.67 PB not host, but even with ecamm's Powerboost it won't work with the PC since it's not running iChat.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to get this working, even with alternate software or service, it would be very much appreciated.

  • In-house apps distribution

    Hi,
I have read the relevant Apple iPad deployment documents and tried to understand them (within my level of pertinent technical knowledge). One thing is still not clear:
Let's say a company has developed an in-house iPad app. Can the company's IT do the following:
    1. Pre-install it efficiently on several hundred iPads, bypassing iTunes store?
    2. Lock the devices down so that they cannot by synced with personal iTunes accounts?
    3. Distribute updates to the app over the air, bypassing iTunes store?
Thank you in advance for your help.

    Thank you,
I found this in Enterprise Deployment Guide:
Applications: lists your applications that are available to install on devices attached to your computer. A provisioning profile might be needed for an application to run on a device.
*Provisioning Profiles:* lists profiles that permit the use of the device for iPhone OS development, as authorized by Apple Developer Connection. For information, see Chapter 5. Provisioning profiles also allow devices to run enterprise applications that are not distributed using the iTunes Store.
*Allow installing apps:* When this option is turned off, the App Store is disabled and its icon is removed from the Home screen. Users are unable to install or update their applications.
I guess this sheds some light on the issue.

  • Designing Cisco Video conferencing solution

    Hi All,
I need to design a single site Cisco IP Video Conferencing soultion which should support web, chat, ISDN and email etc support.
there will be one conferencing room which will be communicating with other remote or traving users.
the requirement is that remote or travelling users should be able to have the video conferencing facility with the Headoffice(single site) and vise versa.
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Waqas

I would recommend Cisco unified presence server for your deployment with MPX. That will give you chat, voice and video conferencing. If you dont use MPX then you can only do point-to-point video CUPS on its own doesnt support video conferencing.
YOu can also intergrate with exchange to view meetings and unity to listen to voicemails.
You can use VTA for the remote clients and 7985 for central site or some sort of tanberg phone if you want a larger screen.
The remote users are going to have to have a pretty low latency connection to get good quality video/voice.

  • Video capture solutions for iMac?

Back when I was a PC sufferer, I used to capture video of video games and other stuff via a video capture card. Now that I have better applications for editing footage on my iMac, I'd like to be able to capture footage again. The guy at the Apple Store told me that there are firewire devices that can capture video footage, unfortunately I forgot which company's products he recommended! Anyone here know of any such devices and which is the best brand to use? Thanks.

Do you want to capture videos of the games you're playing on your Mac? If I understood it correctly, then you might try Snapz Pro X, and even if it's not a UB app, it runs smoothly on my iMac.
    Product Description
Snapz Pro X is a quantum leap in video capture technology, adroitly capturing full motion video of anything on your screen at a blistering pace, complete with digital audio, and an optional microphone voiceover. Think of it as a digital video camera for your screen.
If, on the contrary, I misunderstood what you wrote, forget about it.
