Dock uses 320% CPU after 10.7.2 update

After upgrading to 10.7.2, and after some time suddenly Dock takes all the CPU and gets unresponsible. killall Dock on terminal does not seem to really kill the task, so I have to reboot to get it solved. After some time the problem repeats.
Console events are quite concerning:

Any idea on what can I do to solve it?

I fixed permisions and checked volume from the restore partition and still the same issue again
Today I noticed that while with 320% cpu it's also eating RAM very quick, when I realized so it was consuming 3.5Gb and the VM size was 320Gb!!!
Other thing I noticed today is that every time I kill the Dock task it starts over, consuming the cpu from the begining (so whatever the problem persist). I closed all the applications but Mail and VMware fusion 4.0.2 and killed dock, and it started consuming cpu from the relaunch as before, but then I closed the former apps (and more precisely I'm suspecting about Fusion) and it stopped consuming CPU (after killing Dock again). Does it make sense?
I took a sample of the proccess just in case it's any expert on the board that can figure out what's going on:
Sampling process 1450 for 3 seconds with 1 millisecond of run time between samples
Sampling completed, processing symbols...

  • Dock uses 100% CPU

My Dock process, after a while, begins using 100% of a CPU core. I can kill the Dock process and everything goes back to normal once the Dock restarts. I have no idea what is triggering the Dock to start consuming CPU. Has anyone else seen this, or have any ideas on how to investigate?
    Seen on 10.7.0-10.7.2.

I have gfxCardStatus running. I've now switched that off to see if that helps. I typically awaken my Mac by opening the lid, then connecting an external display, then closing the lid again. Dock often goes to 100% at that time. (I will have to test further to see at which step).
I noticed my system.log is full of this, at the time I awoke the Mac and the Dock went to 100%:

  • 10.6.8 Dock uses 100% CPU.

Quit and force quit dock no help. Safe boot and repair permissions no help.
Couldn't restart.. Blue screen to login and back to blue screen.
Tried to do bug report from iPad but drop down list for configuration empty.
Resorting to restore from time machine.
    Anyone licked this?
Anyone know of a way to back out an update?

Some other users have identified this as an issue with Parallels.

  • Dynadock U3.0 - Not able to use Ethernet port after Win 8.1 update

    Hi everybody,
i am using a Dynadock u3.0 dock with my Vaio SCP 13.
Since I updated my device to Windows 8.1 Update 1 I am not able to use the Ethernet port of the Dynadock.
    Before that everything worked fine.
I am not able to reinstall the drivers correctly (tried 7.6m0, 7.5m2). While the driver insaller tries to start i am getting an error message, that the installer is not able to set a bunch of registry Keys (SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DisplayLinkGA\D evice1) (till 0). (Image 1)
If i ignore those messages and do install the driver, the Ethernet port will remain uninstalled in the device manager. (Image 2)
If I try to install the driver manually (DisplayLink Network Adapter NCM), Ill get an error message that a driver was found but that the access was denied. (Image 3)
I started the safe mode and could install the driver. But if I reboot to normal mode, the device could not be started.
I also tried to disable UAC and I am logged in as the "real" administrator.
Please find the error messaged attached (in German):

BTW: If I unzip the installer (7.6m0) and install the *inf for the right ven&dev (4503) it still does not work...
I dont know what to do anymore...

    Hi
After Windows 8.1 upgrade, you should also update the Display Link driver/software
    This is very important!
The latest driver can be downloaded here:
    http://www.displaylink.com/support/downloads.php
Note: the old version should be removed!

  • AddressBookManag 100% CPU after 10.5.8 update

After I installed I noticed that this process was consuming nearly 100% of CPU capacity.
Restarting and logging into a "clean" admin user did not show this but logging in under my own user showed the activity appearing after a few minutes.
Address Book is set to open at login and I use MobileMe with automatic syncing.
Turning off mobile me automatic synchronisation did not do anything however if I unplugged my ethernet cable (cutting off my network connection) the AddressBookManag stopped.
Setting it too manual stops it recurring but do a manual sync creates the problem again.
I am currently behind a corporate proxy however and the interaction between this and Mobileme I think this is the problem but I don't recall this occurring with 10.5.7. Essentially AddressBookManag should recognise it is failing to connect and not simply run wild will it fails to connect.
If I disconnect my macbook from the company network and use my iphone for internet tethering there is no problem.

    Hi, Roger.
I've noticed this behaviour as well and it goes back to before 10.5.8. Generally it goes away after a bit. My guess is that AddressBookManager is actually busy doing some housekeeping.
You could try deleting ~/Library/Application Support/Address Book/ABPerson.index which should result in a rebuilding of the Address Book database the next time you search for an entry.

  • A process named "discoveryd" takes up to 97% of my CPU after the last Yosemite update in April 2015

    Hello,
"Discoveryd" process takes up to 97% of my CPU and when I force it to quit, it appears again after a while. I attached the screenshot of my activity monitor.
    Appreciate your help.

This procedure will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Back up all data before you begin, and recreate the settings afterwards.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
Restart the computer and empty the Trash.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Version Mismatch for Kernel and CPU after 10.6.4 update

I had a kernel panic in both Mac Pro and MacBook Pro after a usually no-brainer software update OS X 10.6.4....I tried all of the shortcuts (zapping PRAM, booting from other drives, safemode, etc) and I get the dreaded gray screen and restart message immediately,,,what can I do short of purchasing a new board for each machine?
I did disk verification and repairs via target disk mode from a third laptop, but the pro macs never get past the grey screen in order to give me the chance to update! The screen text says:
    "panic(cpu 0 caller 0x2x096e6) Version mismatch between Kernel and CPU PM"@/Source Cache/...
    Debugger called: <panic>"
What can I do to GET PAST the "version mismatch" and "ned to restart" screen to be ABLE to update?

Just tried installing the 10.6.4 update on my iMac i5. It began the usual shutdown, and I was expecting the install to begin. That never happened. 10 minutes went by at least. I forced it to shut down, and now it won't boot. Same as the OP - "Version mis-match between Kernel and CPU PM"
There is no option to boot from anything else, either. The machine won't boot from an original install CD, or from an install image I keep on USB. I tried zapping PRAM, and resetting SMC. At this point, I consider it bricked. Fortunately, I have a reasonably recent TM backup.
Won't have time to take it in until Monday. Sure hope someone has some insight before then.

  • Dock translucency stopped working after 10.10.1 update

A little odd but I just noticed that after updating to OS X 10.10.1 my dock is no longer translucent. Any ideas?
    Mid 2011 iMac

    Try restarting the Dock.
    Applications > Utilities > Terminal
    Launch Terminal.
Wait until the $ sign shows up.
    Enter the command     killall Dock
Press the enter key on the keyboard. Wait until the prompt shows up.
    Quit Terminal.

  • Dock returns to default after 10.5.3 update

After updating from 10.5.2 to 10.5.3 clients conectet to an OD Directory with remote home directories the dock of all users returns to default. The changes one makes in the dock will not be saved anymore.
We are running 10.5.2 server with newly updatet 10.5.3 clients wich connect to an NFS automount..
Does anyone have the same issuses?

Ok, so I got mine working by deleting my Mail preferences from ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. Just move that file to your desktop while Mail is quit. You can always put it back if you like.
The down side is that you lose your accounts and have to set them up again, but all your mailboxes and downloaded emails should be reconnected fine. The preferences file contains the information about the accounts, but not the mail itself.
I tried restoring a backup copy of my preferences file, but as others have mentioned, each time I quit and restart Mail, my accounts were lost again and it asked me to set them up. The only way I found to prevent this was to get move the preferences file aside. Now it quits and restarts without a problem.
Hope that helps. Not ideal, but you can at least get back up and running.

  • IMac at 100% CPU after 10.5.8 update

The update to OS 10.5.8 appears to be running OK on my MB Pro, but not on an iMac I did a fresh install of OS 10.5 and then upgraded to 10.5.8 - the CPU is at 100% all the time!

What process is consuming all of the CPU resources? /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor. Without know what is consuming resources, it would be difficult to make a determination.

  • How can I delete a pending iTunes music download?  I'm using iPad 2 after the ios 6 update and cannot update my apps until the download s finished.

I've tried swiping and that doesn't work in the iTunes Store anymore. The music simply won't download. Thanks in advance.

Try and download the same music file using iTune (computer) and sync to iPad.

  • Dock won't magnify after 10.4.4 update

Just did the update to 10.4.4 and now the dock won't magnify when I move the mouse over the various applications. When I click one it magnifies it and stays magnified till I click into another application.
I also noticed that in Mail.app when you hovered over an address in an email you'd received it had a kind of blue highlight box. That doesn't appear any more either.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Nothing out of the ordinary but the problem is fixed.
I downloaded the combo update and then decided I'd go back to 10.4 and update from there. However, it wouldn't let me do an archive and install and told me the software couldn't be installed.
So I took out Diskwarrior to clean things up and that wouldn't work either. It kept freezing when 'locating directory info' or something similar.
So I decided I'd start back up again and have a look around on the web to see if I could find any answers to that and lo and behold everything is working perfectly again.
    Most strange.

  • Order of DNS servers when using DHCP random after 10.9.3 update

I am operating my local DNS server on my home network for resolving all local IP addresses and names.
The router which connects me to the ouside world is also running a DHCP server serving the local network.
It inherits from outside world two DNS server IP addresses (which cannot be disabled) and has the local DNS server
manualy configured to be "first". I.e. it supplies via DHCP option 6 an ordered list of three DNS servers.
So far so good and all was working well until the 10.9.3 update...
I.e. the local DNS was on top of the list and the others where only queried when it was not responding for some reason.
After the 10.9.3 update every time I do a DHCP renewal the list of DNS servers has a different (random) order.
Not surprisingly if the local DNS isn't on top local lookups will fail.
I have done some packet analysis on the LAN and the DHCP is definitely sending the DNS server IP addresses in the correct order
    (see rfc 2132, chapter 3.8).
So why does 10.9.3 get the idea that it has to re-shuffle the order? To "improve the experience"???
And more importantly hot to get rid of it and restore normal behaviour?

This may be a bug. Send a bug report: Bug Reporting - Apple Developer. You can also report it via Apple Feedback, but the first link is better.
