Document BOMs

Is there any method in SAP to automatically update a Document BOM with the latest effective version of a document?  We want to use BOMs to track groups of related documents, but it seems to be a manual process to make sure the latest version of a document is reflected in the BOM.
Any help or suggestions on how I can accomplish this would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill,
unfortunatly this is no standard functionality. So the document BOM is not updated automatically if you create a new version of the document info record in transaction CV01N.
The only way is the implement an own functionality which updates the BOM if a new version is created. Maybe the BADI DOCUMENT_MAIN01 could be useful for achieving this behavior.

  • Do we document BOM information for each item in BR100 for BOM?

    Hi,
I'm working on BR100 for BOM. I noticed that in BR100 BOM template there is not a section for the documentation of BOMs for each item. I wonder if the standard is not documenting any of that information in this document?
    Thanks a lot,
    Robert

    Hello Robert,
BR100 explain all setups steps for modules.
BOM for each item is not 'setup' but 'Data Management'.

  • BOM document item change history

I am trying to find an efficient way to track change history of Bill of Material structure for documents, especially deletions of BOM structure components. I found an SAP table called STAS which contains Bill of Material Number, its component counter number and a deletion indicator, but not the <b>document numbers</b> of the BOM parent document and BOM component document. Is there a database table that contains all this information (BOM #, component counter #, BOM parent document #, BOM component document #, as well as the change date)?

Not sure ,there may be two reasons 1,He might have deleted accedentally adn lateyer he forgot or his id might using his group team to chage data when his absence. If system noted his user id and time some might have used his id.Check with basis time they might have user entries that time how many times the user id used that time .

  • DMS Document structure

    Hi Friends,
We are implementing DMS in our organization. Our file storing system is explained below.
    1st level - Vendor name (like Nyro / Hydraulics / techno )
    2nd level - Project name (like A1 / A2/ A3)
    3rd level - Dept. (like Civil / electric/ admin)
4th level - Type (like Drawings / docs / memos)
Can we do thru Document structure or by classification (by creating characteristics / class and attaching to doc. type)
Which one is better way ? If we use document structure can we authorization for each level objects like in 2nd level one person is authorized for A1 another for A2 like way other levels also.
    Regards,
    Sai Krishna

    Hi Sai,
mainly you can work with both ways. The creation of a class which enables your users to classify each document info record and then control the permissions with the suitable authorization objects or by a BADI implementation will work.
Another solution would be to create a document BOM structure in CV11 or with the help of the new browser function in ECC 600 release. For further information on the browser function please see also the following link http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/PLM/NewFunctionalitiesinERP2005.
Additionally I think that EasyDMS could also be a solution to setup this scenario for your user. In the above SDN WIKI area for DMS you will also find a special content part for EasyDMS too.
In the release ECC 600 with EA-PLM extenstion you can use the ACL authorization concept to add individual authorizations for
users to single document info records. This could be useful to allow one user to enter folder A and another to enter only folder B.
I hope that this information could be useful for you.

  • Document hierarchy and document structure....

Can anyone give me a clear picture of document hiererchy band document structure
i have read the material, could not distinguish both...need a clarity with an example

    See By simple words
    Document Structure
Similar to document BOM.This will help you to create a BOM comprising of various DIR's under one Library
Usage: In production order instead of attaching various documnets in line Item , Instead create a Document stucture and assign it under Production BOM which will occupy under single Line Item.
The function for exploding a document structure from top to bottom gives a list of all the documents and text items contained in the structure.  Each document contained in such a structure can have its own document structure, as well as being a component of others.  These document structures are exploded completely, level by level.  The depth of the explosion levels is unlimited.  The document structure can be accessed directly from the processing functionality of the document info record.
    Document Hyrarchy
You can Create a link between the originals attached in the DIR, by defining the superiority status .
By defining a superior document, a direct predecessor for a simple document hierarchy can be set.  The hierarchy is not limited to this level; it can be expanded from the superior document.
    The superior document can:
u2022     Be superior to other documents
u2022     Be inferior to another document
Documents of different document types can be put into a document hierarchy.  Recursiveness is not supported; the same document may not appear in two different places in the hierarchy.  This means that a document can only be entered once in the entire u2018explosion pathu2019.  By entering superior documents, an entire document hierarchy can be represented in the system.
Let me know if you need More info.

  • Cross-Organization Document Structure Standards

    Sept. 12, 2007
Where each of many document providers are sending similar documents to many document receivers, could standard document stuctures be developed for Live Cycle so that document providers that have Live Cycle could use the standard document structures and avoid having to independently develop a structure similar to structures developed by its peers?
For example, title insurance companies provide documents to loan underwriters at banks, including duplicate policies. Could industry-wide standard documents be developed so that all title companies could use them? The receiving banks would store them in their underwriting file.
Another example is building property managers (among others) often ask for certification that a tenant's sub-contractor (or supplier) provide certfication that it has liability insurance or that the property manager be added to the liability insurance policy. The liability insurance companies print the certificate and mail it (US Postal Service). Could this postal mail be replaced by a Live Cycle industry-wide certificate structure?

  • Sample bom creation and explosion in sales order

    hi,
can any one help to create a simple bom with atleast one sub item for the bom and create a sales order in which the bom explodes ( i mean when u enter the main bom item it should list its sub items as its line item below it)...
(also mention what item categories are to be taken care ... )
    rewards for sure
    thanks
    mmn

    Hi MMn,
    Bill of materials (BOM)
    1. In the SAP System, you can use BOMs to represent different objects (such as materials, equipment, functional location BOMs, and documents) and to maintain object-specific data.
    2. Document BOM: A complex document may be made up of several documents, such as a program, technical drawings, papers, and photographs. These related information and documentation objects are grouped together as a unit using a document structure – a BOM for a document.
    3. Equipment BOMs are used to describe the structure of equipment and to assign spare parts to equipment for maintenance purposes. Bills of material for functional locations group together the elements of a technical structure, such as the functional unit of an entire plant.
    4. You work with order BOMs when you specially tailor the make-to-order production of your products to the requirements of your customers. In order to meet the customer requirements, sales order specific modifications to various assemblies are often required. Furthermore, assemblies are often specially constructed for a particular sales order.
    5. Before you can create a BOM for the component parts of an object, the object must have a valid master record in your system.
    6. A bill of material that you create for a material is known as a material BOM in the SAP System. A BOM explosion answers the question: What is the product made of? This question arises in various situations, such as when you want to:
Determine material requirements for a product
Look at the overall structure of a product in a design department
See an overview of the parts and materials required
Calculate the effects of changes to costs
    7. BOM is a collection of materials that make up a product. For example – computer, home theatre system. Material BOM is complex and is dependent on sales and distribution, material management or production planning.
    8. The most important rule is that the material type has to be a FINISHED PRODUCT (FERT) in order to categorise it as a BOM.
    9. BOM processing is divided into two different ways – either at the MAIN item level if the item is assembled or at the sub-item level (i.e. at the component level) if the material is not assembled.
    10. BOM is configured at the item category level (VOV7) and transaction code to create a BOM is CS01.
    11. In case of single level BOM, main item categories TAQ and TAP should represent single level BOM in VOV7 and in case of multi level BOM, the main item categories should represent multi level BOM.
    Main item level processing
    1. The material master records should have the item category group ERLA in the sales org.2 screen of the finished product. In this case, the associated sub items function only as text items, and thus are not relevant for delivery. This process ensures that pricing, inventory control and delivery processing is carried out the header level that is for the finished product only. This is mainly relevant to the assembled products.
    2. item category group – ERLA; main item category – TAQ (schedule line – CP) and sub item category – TAE (schedule line – CT)
    Sub-item level processing
    1. If the business prefers to have the sub-items be responsible for pricing, inventory control and delivery processing, the item category group should be LUMF on screen sales org.2 of the respective material master record. This ensures that subcomponents are relevant for processing. This is relevant to the products that are not assembled.
    2. item category group – LUMF; main item category – TAP (schedule line is CT), sub item category – TAN (schedule line is CP)
    Multi-level BOM
In order to activate the multi-level BOM, structure scope in VOV7 has to be changed from single level explosion to multi level explosion.
Try this and revert back fr clearifications

  • ISO Document in DMS

    Dear Sir
I have to attached my ISO document in DMs with hierarch level
Apex document>Quality manual>Departmet Manual>format in this manner i want to maintain my document
    Awaiting foe your valuable answer.
    regards
    kunal

    Dear Kunal,
first of all it is necessary to create three document info records. This can be done in transaction CV01N. For storing originals I would recommend you to choose a document type which uses the KPRO storage concept. You can search for such a document type in transaction DC10 and check which type has set the flag 'Use KPRO'.
Back to CV01N. At the 'Document Data' screen you can add original files by using the 'Create' button at the bottom of the screen. This button looks like a white sheet of paper.
After you entered the document file path and choose a suitable workstation application the original file will be added to the document info record. If possible you can also add all three original also to one document info record if you store them in a KPRO storage category.
Otherwise you have to create one document info record per original file. If you have created all three document info records, you can go to transaction CV11 to create a document BOM. In transaction CV11 you have to choose one document info record which should be the header of this BOM. On the following screen you can add the other two document info records as items. This way a document BOM will be created.
In case you want to create a document hierarchy which is slightly different, you also need three document info records. But then you do enter transaction CV02N. In transaction CV02N you will find an area called 'superior document' on the first tab. Here you can enter one document number, type, part and version. If you enter a document here you create a hierarchy like
    Superior document info record
    > sub-document info record
And this can be done for each involved  document info record. But there can be always only one superior document for one document info record.
I hope this information could be useful for achieving the desired behavior.

    Christoph

  • Adding a sales order with DI Server 8.8 results in document with no rows

    Hello,
I am facing a weird problem situation running DI Server in a 8.8 (pl8) environment.
When adding a new sales order document, the add operation results in a "success", but when I go to B1 client and see the document, there are no rows at all.
Please see the xml message I am posting to DI Server. There is one in row specified.
Anyone had similar experiences or possibly even been able to resolve this ?

  • Component and its BOM list

    Hi ,
Where can we see the list of BOM header materials in which a given material is a component.
Ex:- If component  'XYZ'  is of  material type - ROH or HALB. If the component 'XYZ' is used in different BOMs. Where can we see these list of BOMs in which component 'XYZ' is used?.
    Thanks in advance.

    Dear

  • How to find the Internal Document Structure Number STLNR from the DIR Key

    Hello:
Our requirement: When a user moves the Header DIR of a Document BOM to Released Status, we need to check if all the BOM Items in this Document BOM have also been released (in Status Released). If not, we need to give the user an error message informing them which component DIRs need to be released before the system will allow them to release the Header DIR. We can do this by entering the DIR Key of the Header DIR and find out the Internal Document Structure Number (Document BOM Number = STLNR for BOM Category Document Structure STLTY = D) from the available input of the DIR Key DOKARDOKNRDOKTL+DOKVR. Then we need to use the value of STLNR in Table STPO to find the Document BOM Items and check the status of each BOM Item DIR.
If Table STKO had DIR Key as an input we would have our solution, but alas it does not. Can anyone point us in the right direction by suggesting how to get to STLNR from the DIR Key? Your help would be much appreciated!
    Niraj Pant

    Hi Niraj,
the STLNR should be contained in structure rc29k. You can also use the DMS BAPI DOCUMENT_GETDETAIL2 with parameter GetStructure or DOCUMENT_GETSTRUCTURE. With these BAPIs you should be able to determine the document structure to an existing document info record. For further information on the mentioned BAPIs please see SAP note <a href="https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/766277">766277</a>  which contains a complete documentation on all existing DMS BAPIs.

  • BOM types

    Dear all,
According to my knowkedge these BOM categories.
    Material BOM
    Equipment BOM
    Document BOM
    Order BOM
    Functional location BOM
    Work breakdown BOM
Now i want to know the types of BOM and also the difference between multiple BOM and Multi level BOM and there uses.
Your reply in this regard will be highly obliging.
    thanks and regards
    irfan

    Dear,
    Catagories of BOM are as,
    Material BOM
    Document BOM
    Equipment BOM
    Functional Location BOM
    Order BOM
    Work Breakdown Structure BOM
    Technical Types :-
    Variant BOMs
A variant BOM groups together several BOMs that describe different objects (for example, products) with a high proportion of identical parts.
A variant BOM describes the specific product variant for each product, with all its components and assemblies.
    Multiple BOMs
A multiple BOM groups together several BOMs that describe one object (for example, a product) with different combinations of materials for different processing methods.

  • Extend number range on Material BOM item

    Hi,
When displaying a material BOM via CS03 and looking at material tab. Each item is incremented by 10. We are currently nearing the end of this number range, ie we have a BOM which has a recipe with item number 9850. We have tested and determined that when we get to item number 9999 the next item reverts back to 0010, 0020 etc. This causes us great problems.
Is there a way to entend the number range past 9999, ie can we go from 9999 to 10000?

  • Cfolder questions

    Hi Experts,
I have couple of question related to CFolder which a test system configured and running on a SAP sandbox WAS.
    1) Can CF be extended to outside suppliers without  a need of an sap UI and password? If yes, do they just need any special  type of windows authentication? We have a mix of suppliers, some has access to SAP and some prohibited, but requires access to some limited SAP information.
    2) Out of the box cfolder solution allows to work with SAP objects like Material, MPN, Documents, BOM etc....can you import SCORE CARD and SCAR objects from SAP. Or do you need SRM integration with CFOLDER?
    3) Can you integrate BOBJ for publishing monthly (Excel, graphs etc)  reports to the supplier area of the cfolder?
    4) What are the pros and cons of running a cfolder system on the SAP ECC server itself. Does it need to be installed on its own server hardware?
    Thanks,
    Pradeep

    Hi Pradeep,
    Answering to your questions..
    1) Can CF be extended to outside suppliers without  a need of an sap UI and password? If yes, do they just need any special  type of windows authentication? We have a mix of suppliers, some has access to SAP and some prohibited, but requires access to some limited SAP information.
Yes, cFolders is mainly available  for collaborating documents, materials, BOM's etc. with business partners like suppliers, customers. No need of access to SAP GUI for using cFolders, since cFolders is web based application(BSP application) which can be accessed using backend SAP user id's with relevant authorisations. If few suppliers has already access to SAP system, then those user ids can be used to access cFolders, Check with your accounts manager of SAP for licensing details.
    2) Out of the box cfolder solution allows to work with SAP objects like Material, MPN, Documents, BOM etc....can you import SCORE CARD and SCAR objects from SAP. Or do you need SRM integration with CFOLDER?
cFolders can be easily integrated with SAP ECC system for accessing documents from DMS, materials, BOM's.  And as far as Score card & SCAR, i have no idea but SRM can be integrated with cFolders.
    3) Can you integrate BOBJ for publishing monthly (Excel, graphs etc)  reports to the supplier area of the cfolder?
Business objects integration..not much idea about it but the outputs from BOBJ like excels, flash files can be uploaded to cFolders very easily and can be shared with suppliers.
    4) What are the pros and cons of running a cfolder system on the SAP ECC server itself. Does it need to be installed on its own server hardware?
cFolders is part of component CPRXRPM and this component is a ERP addon, so it can be installed on the same server of ECC. This can be installed separately also, but I would recommend to install on same server since the integration becomes easier. If you take reference of business suite IDES, the above component is installed in the same instance and you can have a look at this.
Hope these answers clarify your queries..

    Ravi

  • Transformation related info in CAD Integration

    Hello All,
we are trying to migrate the Legacy Solid Edge assemblies. does any one have any idea which table in SAP does the transformation information for the DIRs below an assemby get stored from CDESK.
    Thanks & Regards
    Srikanth Aduri.

    Hi Srikanth,
the transformation matrix is stored at the document BOM position. You find the transformation values in the table DMUTMX.
First get GUIDX from table STPO, then get DMXGUID from table dmupob.
Finaly you find the transformations in table DMUTMX with DMXGUID as input.
I know that there is report DMU_MAINT_FOR_BOM to maintain the trafos for bill of materials, but I am not aware if there is a report for document BOMs.
Please reward points if answer is useful.
