Document Compare Function in Acrobat Professional 9

Document Compare function
I use the 'compare' function to compare documents versions etc for changes. It looks like only 250 pages is the maximum number of pages that can compared during each operation.
I am using documents that are 900+ pages and I keep the error message/screenshot attached.
Is this a limitation with Acrobat Professional 9?

Yes, it would appear to be a limitation that Adobe have put in. I'm in a similar situatiion where I have documents up to 2500 pages long that must be compared so while it takes longer I do the compare in batches of 250 pages at a time. It could be as a result of resource usage. I'm finding that when I do a compare, the fisrt one is generally ok but after that Acrobat slows down considerably - it may just be my computer (XP Pro 1.5 GB RAM and 2.8 GHz) but I'd like to know does Acrobat empty the cache or is the cache filling up after each compare and hogging resources?
It's a great function but I wish it would work the way I expect it to.
Cheers

  • Please Help!! Links to other PDF documents in my PDF document open in Adobe Acrobat Professional but NOT Adobe Reader XI

    Hi everyone,
I really hope someone can help me with this problem. I work for a software company and we have a release coming up. Every release requires me to create a 'menu' which is what users see when they insert the release CD. I create this menu in Adobe Acrobat Professional, and add links to all the PDF manuals we have for our products. When I open the Menu in Acrobat Professional, all links open fine. When just attempting to open the links using the default Adobe Reader (which i'm guessing most of our customers will use), nothing happens, not even an error is generated. I'm ensuring I link to the documents that reside in the same folder on my directory as the menu. Is this something to do with relative/absolute links? Something to do with Reader XI, as I don't remember having this problem for our last release? Foxit also seems to work in opening the links.
    Thanks

I’m using version 11.0.10. So where the Menu resides in a folder ready to be burnt on to a CD, that same folder is where the links point to.
    Thanks

  • "Edit Document Text" function in Acrobat X renders squares instead of actual text

As the title says, just trying to edit text, but I'm getting a sqaure for every letter I type, in the same style / color as the text I'm trying to edit. I have the proper fonts installed on my system that corrospond to the text I'm editing within the dcument so I'm kinda stumped as to what could be the issue.

    Not available in Adobe Reader.

  • Document compare in Acrobat 9 a backwards step?

It looks like Adobe in their infinite wisdom have dumbed-down the document compare in Acrobat 9.
In Acrobat 8 and before it used to be possible to do a quick-and-easy text comparison to highlight differences between documents. Now there are 3 (undefined) ways of comparing documents, none of which are suitable for comparing two mostly textual documents. The 250 page limit is madness too - many of our documents are 1000+ pages which Acrobat 8 used to handle perfectly well.
Is there any way of getting the old (Acrobat 8) document compare functionality back?

I'm afraid I don't have help for you, David, but I fully support your subject line!
When I used Acrobat 8, I was able to do fairly quick and really effective document comparisons, in which Acrobat 8 focused on what I asked it to focus on (especially text). With Acrobat 9, I no longer have this control, and the comparison quality is horrendous. Acrobat 9 arbitrarily treats some text as images, fails to see blatantly-obvious differences, reports no differences in blatantly-obvious changed text content, and also reports some "ghost changes" (such as multiple "matching graphic not found" messages around words in blocks of text where no graphics ever existed).
    I'm disappointed as well.

  • Weblink behavior Adobe Reader vs. Acrobat Professional

I have a PDF that contains a link to a web site. If the PDF is opened in Adobe Reader (7.0.0) and the machine has IE7 the link works whether or not IE7 is already open. If the document is opened in Acrobat Professional (7.0.9) and the machine has IE7 the link only works if IE7 is already open, if IE7 isn't already open nothing happens. Right clicking and selecting Open Weblink in Browser doesnt do anything either. Is there a way to setup the PDF to ensure it will open IE7 if it isn't already open? If so how do I do that?
    Thanks,
    Ann.

There are 2 issues here (this question is asked a LOT !!!)
When Acrobat or Reader are opened and the PDF is closed, the program stays running in the background, so the next time a PDF is opened the "current" program is used
There also seems (I think) to be a difference/problem in the way the Windoze Registry handles file associations, so the program you WANT is not always the program that is USED to open a given file
You might use the forum search, looking for something like
    acrobat reader file assocation
To see if one of the MANY previous discussions has a solution

  • Acrobat 6.0 Professional - Document Compare

    Hi All,
I'm opening two PDF files in Acrobat 6.0 professional programatically from VB.NET program and I'm comparing those two documents using MenuitemExecute(DIGSIG:CompareDocuments ) command and generating the side by side comparison file programatically.
During this process after executing the command "MenuitemExecute(DIGSIG:CompareDocuments )" adobe is displaying "Compare Documents" dialog box where the user need to click OK on it in order to continue with the further process.
My requirement is to suppress the dialog box and automate the process.Mine is desktop application developed in VB.NET.
So.., could you please any one let me know how to suprress the dialog box and the posiible ways to do that.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Vijay.

    Thanks for your reply Aandi,
I can able to run compare function using Menu Item execute but after that a dialog box "Compare Documents" is poping up where it requires user action to click "OK" on that dialog box to continue with comparison. So, is there any possible way to capture that "OK" click programatically.
    Thanks & Regards
    Vijay.

  • PDFs look different in Adobe reader and Acrobat professional compared to the built in PDF viewer on windows 8

    Hi there,
I have been trying to narrow down an issue we have been having for some time in printing PDF files and finding that they look different on paper compared to screen.  Up until today our big KIP plotter got the blame, but as I have been collecting notes on a little windows 8 tablet I noted that PDFs opened in the windows PDF viewer have the same visual defects as the printouts.  My example today is that on a CAD drawing there is a small box/frame with a number in their, I tried printing and the frame was completely blacked out.  As a test I tried saving the PDF as a TIFF file from Adobe Acrobat professional and this file had the same fault as the printed copy.  When I open it in the windows 8 pdf viewer I can see that there is a shading within this box that does not show on Adobe Reader (latest version 11.0.10.32), the adobe reader and acrobat pro version both show a white background to the box.  We have been having lots of issues with sections being missing from drawings and overly feint lines.
I am not sure where to start trying to narrow down why we are getting different results in different PDF readers.  Is there anyone who maybe able to point me in the right direction?  It almost feels like the shading or colour density is not being consistent when PDFs are being opened in different packages.
    Thanks in advance
    Andy

Some PDF viewers comply with the PDF ISO Standard (ISO 32000) "just enough" while others (such as Adobe's) fully comply.
As with anything there's a cost to using anything that comes from a "just enough" approach.
    Be well...

  • Acrobat Professional 7 Document Message Bar does not display

I am running Acrobat Professional 7.0.9 on a Windows 2000 PC (HP Compaq dc7100, P4, 1GB RAM). After upgrading Adobe Reader to version 8.1.2, I can no longer create forms that trigger the Document Message Bar to display in either Acrobat or Reader. (No, the Always Hide option is not selected in my preferences in either program.) Forms I created before the upgrade still display normally. How can I fix this issue?

I had troubles with Acrobat Pro 6.0 after I installed Reader 8.1.2.
I removed the newer reader and all worked fine again. Seems I'm not missing much using the 6.0 version.

  • Creating a document script for Clock in Acrobat Professional.

    Hi,
I am trying to add a field on my PDF form which shows a continuous clock.
I do not know how to add code to a document script in Acrobat Professional.
"Advaned/ Javascript/ Set Document Actions" is greyed out.
    Thanks in advance,
    Damo.

It sounds like you have Acrobat 9 or earlier?  And is this a LiveCycle form?
In therory, clock code is very simple. It just writes the formatted time to a text field. But the details depend on the type of form, LiveCycle or AcroForm

  • Acrobat Professional 7.0 not able to PDF documents

Acrobat Professional 7.0 was working fine, then I got a message to update to Acrobat 7.1. I clicked yes, it installed, I restarted, and now I can't PDF documents anymore.
The document opens a pop-up, "Missing PDFMaker files. Do you want to run the installer in repair mode?" immediately after I save the to-be-pdf'ed document. When I click "yes", It slowly runs the repair mode, then the computer shuts down and restarts. I go to PDF again, and I get the same "Missing PDFMaker files". I don't know what to do about this.

Yes! Thank you. I played around with it some and found that is the case, that I can PDF through the printer as well as bring the application up. I suppose it's just not install-able in full because it just cannot link up with Windows 7 in any capacity.
That's all the ability that I need at the present time. Nothing special, just whether it can or can't. Thanks!

  • Default documents to Adobe Acrobat Professional

I am running Adobe Acrobat Professional X but each time I open a PDF (from email and/or from file) my system defaults to Adobe Acrobat Reader XI.  How do I set it to (always) default to my Adobe Acrobat Professional X application?  I have tried to uninstall Reader but it will not uninstall.

Find a PDF on your system, right click, and select open with, then select Acrobat as the default program.

  • Creating a Form in Acrobat Professional 8

I am attempting to create a fully-interactive PDF form, using an MS Word Document which I created using Word 2007 on my system, which is Windows Vista Home Premium.  I want the colleagues to whom I send this form to be able to complete it on line, and return it to me by e-mail.   I have tried to do this in 2 ways:
I have opened the MS Word document, clicked on Acrobat, Create PDF, and in the window entitled Save Adobe PDF file as:  I selected Fully Functional PDF and indicated that the resulting file be saved on my Desktop.  It appears that the process does complete, but I can find the resulting file NOWHERE on my system.  I've searched in every way possible, and find only a shortcut to the new file, but not the file itself.  I obtain an error message when I click on this shortcut!
I have also opened my Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional software, and selected Create PDF, from file.  I selected the correct file, and the conversion process began.  After 10% of the conversion was complete, the following message appeared:  "PDF Conversion process failed; please correct the error and retry".  However, I have no idea what the "error" is, so I cannot comply!
The form I am working with is NOT a template, but one I have created.  My needs are not met by any of the available templates available within the program.  I am at a loss for a solution, and hope that someone on this forum can help me.

  • Read, Write and other functionality on Acrobat reader file

    Hi,
What are the functions that can be done on Acrobat file using C#.net Programming.
Can we add E-Signature to Acrobat file through C# Programming? and do other operations.
Can u suggest the links for sample program.
I came to know with Adobe Reader we can't do operations on PDF document. we requires Adobe Acrobat Standard or Professional. is it true?
    Your suggestions requested

    Thanks for your reply.
I have gone through some on example given in SDK.
out of four "BasicIacCS", "BasicIacOCXCS", "FillFormCS", "JSObjectControlCS" in SDK samples,  only "BasicIacOCXCS" is working.
remaining projects throws error "Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID"
I have only installed Acrobat Reader, do we require full Adobe Version?

  • Compare PDFs in Acrobat 7 Standard?

Can anyone help, I usually use a Mac and using Acrobat Professional. I can compare different versions of a PDF easily using the Advanced Compare Documents tool. Does anyone know if there's a way of doing this effectively in Acrobat 7 Standard and where the options would be on the PC version.
    Many thanks

This happens on Acrobat 8 Pro on Windows XP too - the text only compare in side by side mode correctly traps the redline differences but highlights non-changed text in a very strange fashion.
It appears to be a bug to me as when you open the comments list and click on the highlight it appears as with a type of 'Indeterminate' and the annotation 'Matching text on page 1 of other document'. When I click on the comment I get an Acrobat error dialog box with the text:
'There was an error processing an annotation or link. There was a problem reading this document (14).'
And I can't seem to delete the comments (presumably as Acrobat is failing to read the comments).
Very irritating. Worse, Acrobat 9 (Mac) has no way to preconfigure the compare so a 2.3MB compare in v8 is now 13+MB in v9 and every table edge (in a 150pp doc) is highlighted as different. Otherwise the v9 compare appears very good for on screen in v9 except it doesn't degrade very well to v8 and there is no side-by-side redline mode I can see.
Will be running v8 for a while yet.
