Document imaging in UK

Can anyone suggest good suppliers and good software for document scanning and any good machine supplying companies in the UK.
We have Oracle 9i Database Enterprise edition on a UNIX AIX box, we use the Business Intelligence (BI) tools Oracle Discoverer and Oracle Reports.
We use the database generally read-only for data warehousing from operational systems that are not from Oracle or Oracle partners.
Overview:
i) There are around 75,000 personnel personal files, which are mixed paper sizes e.g.: welfare papers for employees, each folder may have around 20 sheets of paper. The information would be added to at a rate of 3000 sheets a month.
The majority of the documents would be text based, we do not take employee photograhs etc.
It may be good to 'fully' scan documents eg: to have a corporate logo that may of come from reference papers.
ii) It would be nice to hold these in the database, would they be held as clob's or blob's in the database ?.
iii) It may be nice to use Oracle Text?? to be able to search for text.
iv) Any extra coding would probably be written in PL/SQL ??
Any advice or experiences , much appreciated.
Sorry if i have posted this into the wrong forum.

Check out Kofax for the software (we wrote the ocr'd text to an Oracle db). We used them for a US Army National Guard (all states and territories scanning and uploading to national) project and it worked well. A number of other systems, like 170Systems, oem Kofax and bundle it with their own stuff, so even other vendors you look at may be using Kofax under the covers.
I'll leave the UK hardware vendors to others.

  • Direct access to document image via webservice - best practice?

    Howdy,
Rookie "Post-er".... be gentle.  I've searched and I've read... didn't find this.  I've not taken training.  I may be way off base.
We have multiple manufacturing sites around the world with local Operator Qualification appls that want to access the enterprise SAP DMS mfg document images (stop dual maint - enterprise & local)....  without dependency on SAP ECC being up.  If we can pass them DMS meta-data via near-realtime msgs (including the document image access "key" data); then we would assume they can direclty access KPRO for the document image as needed.
Would this be considered a "best practice"?   Webservice controlled (access only from known source).
Is PHIO-ID the only dynamic variable needed (based on info below I found in WIKI)?
*Alternatively, the url as below can be used to retrieve the documents from the content server[*http://<Server_Name>:<Port_No>/archive.dll?get&pVersion=<Version_No>&contRep=<Content_Rep>&docId=<PHIO_ID|http://<Server_Name>:<Port_No>/archive.dll?get&pVersion=<Version_No>&contRep=<Content_Rep>&docId=<PHIO_ID|\||]>
<Server_Name> = Content server (IP address or name of content server)
<Port_No> = Port No. of the server
<Version_No> = Version No of content server (Transaction OACT)
<Content_Rep> = content category of the server (Transaction OAC0)
<PHIO_ID> = PHIO Id derived for each upload method

    Hello,
This reply posted to help others who may refer this in the future.
As Amit Maheshwari mentioned, it is possible to give access to a document stored in the Content Server even when the partner system(ECC) is down.
As per your requirement, you want to access documents when the ECC System is down, but the content server is up and running.
The following steps can be of help to you:
1 - Create a program, that will create URL for the documents stored in the content server and send the URL to the external system.(Refer: FM- SDOK_PHIO_GET_URL_FOR_GET)
The URL refers to the public IP of the Internet Server on which the content server is hosted on.
2 - With this URL and few configurations on the Content Server (to allow access from external systems) you can fetch the file from the content server to the external system. Access privileges may vary based on your security settings.
Note: Since the ECC system will be down, creating URL for all the documents can be a bottleneck.
Probable Solution: While adding a document to the ECC system, the respective URL can be created and transferred to the external system along with the master details and stored there.
This can be undertaken if it is really important for the business, as it will increase the load for the external system. The solution can be modified based on the business requirement.

Hello.  I have scanned 3 pages and saved to pdf, now in Microsoft Document Imaging I can only select text from the first page and cannot select text from the other 2 pages.  Is there a way to select multiple pages?

Why don't you ask in a MS forum? This forum is for an Adobe product and I have no idea why you are asking about Microsoft Document Imaging here.

  • Using the Mac with windows for document imaging business is it practical?

I have incorporated my business in my state and the premise is to perform document imaging services. The problem though is alot of recommendations from windows people telling me its not practical to enter this arena using a windows xp on a mac and it would be more practical just getting a pc since the industry and all software for the business is done for windows. I am wondering if I do this using windows on my mac in a commercial atmosphere how much of a problem should Iexpect and should I just go ahead and use a pc laptop for the business. I was also going to use a company that has apple servers for my online backup of files.

"how much of a problem should Iexpect"
None. Why would you? Running Windows on a Mac is just like runnning it on any other PC, because Macs...are PCs.

  • Office Document Imaging as Viewer with Archivelink ?

    Hello,
i'm dealing with these Archivelink themes for the first time. We have an archive (SAPERION) which is connected to SAP Rel.4.7 using HTTP.
i've read the documentation but it's just confusing .
What would be the customizing ( OAA3, OAA4 ?? ) to use the Microsoft Document Imaging  just to view documents ?
Is it possible to get the viewer user - dependend ( perhaps via exit ) - so that the usery could decide which viewer (ECL-Viewer or Microsoft ) they want to use ? i found in debuuging the table TOAEX but no documentation  what to do with that .
An help would be appreciated ..
    Regards Wolfgang

    Hi Wolfgang,
If you would need to open the documents with Microsoft Office Document
Imaging without opening the document viewer, please do the following
    settings in your system.
1.Launch the transaction OAC0.Double click on the respective content
    repository.
2.Go to edit mode.click on the 'Full Adminstarion' tab.
3.Please maintain a protocol if not maintained already.for example the
    protocol SAPHTTP.save it.
4.Launch the transaction OAA3.Create an entry with the same protocol and
    the same version.Save it.
5.Double click on the protocol and it will take you to a screen
    'Over view of protocol'.
Then click on 'Display Stored document'  >Choose the document type
'TIF'  >choose the communication type as 'ARCHIVELNK'  >Click on
    continue.
Similarly click on 'Retrieve Stored Document on Client PC'  >choose the
communication type as 'TABLE'  >Click on continue.
Then click on 'Display local file'  >choose communicaion type as
    'ARCHIVELNK'  >Click on continue.
    6.SAVE the settings.
Once the above setting is done, the document should get displayed with
the Microsoft Office Document Imaging in your system.

  • Error in Branch Processing for Document Image

    Hello,
I had some assistance on a previous Thread named: Document Image. I got some great feed back and help implementing an Document Image instead of the normal Download link. My question is that for the Document Library OBE Example item Name is required so the Type image will always appear. My Type is not required and an image is defaulted even if not Browse/Created when viewing IR. There is a default document image for Type and once it is clicked an error message appears.
    ORA-22275: invalid LOB locator specified

    Charles,
I mentioned the solution in my previous post and said that you could use a case statement not to display the download link when there is no filename:
    SELECT CASE
              WHEN filename IS NOT NULL
                 THEN    '<a href=#><img src='
                      || DECODE

                                'application/msword', '#APP_IMAGES#ICDOC.gif',
                                'application/pdf', '#APP_IMAGES#icpdf.gif',

  • MODI (Document Imaging OCR) in Microsoft Office 2010 and later.

What seriously possessed Microsoft developers to remove this feature when there are no other alternatives except to install an old Sharepoint designer.  Tons of end users require OCR capabilities with scanned TIFF files.  Why remove something
like this? I don't understand why they would make such a ridiculously stupid move like this.

    Hi,
Thank you for your feedback. Microsoft Office Document Imaging (MODI) is removed in Microsoft Office 2010. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Please refer to this KB article. In addition to install SharePoint Designer 2007, it provides some other methods to install MODI on the computer. It also describes the alternative methods that you can use to regain the functionalities of certain MODI
    features:

Please be assured that our developers strive to capture Microsoft users' ideas and are working hard to create a more powerful product.

  • Microsoft Office Document Imaging

I upgraded Office 2007 to 2010 and found out that I am no longer able to view/print any of my multi-page tiff documents scanned with standard Mircrosoft MODI 2007. The old MODI libraries were removed by the installer and the new office version seems not to have such option in the Shared Tools.
Will MODI be included in the final version of the office 2010?
    Thanks

    Hello Everyone,
    Please see this resolution:
How to install MODI by installing SharePoint Designer 2007
Another way to install Microsoft Office Document Imaging for use with Microsoft Office 2010 is to install Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007. SharePoint
Designer 2007 is provided as a free download from the Microsoft website. Microsoft Office Document Imaging is included with the SharePoint Designer 2007 installation package as part of the Office Tools.
To install SharePoint Designer 2007, visit the following Microsoft website:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=baa3ad86-bfc1-4bd4-9812-d9e710d44f42
How to include MODI in a SharePoint Designer 2007 installation
    1.
Run the SharePointDesigner.exe from the link in the article. Or, download this file, and then double-click it.
    2.
Review and then accept the software license.
    3.
    Click
Customize to open the installation options.
    4.
    Expand the
Office Tools tree to see the Microsoft Office Document Imaging
    option.
    5.
Click the down arrow for the
Microsoft Office Document Imaging option, and then select
Run all from My Computer to include all of MODI in the SharePoint Designer installation.
    6.
    Click
    Install Now.
Enterprise customers who are installing SharePoint Designer 2007 do not have to worry about licensing.
The MSOCache footprint is much smaller than that of the Office 2007 suite, which ranges from 500 MB to 900 MB, depending on SKU. The SharePoint Designer footprint is about 209 MB.
How to use the Office Customization Tool to make sure that only MODI is installed
To test SharePoint Designer and to use the OCT to lock down where no one can install the SP designer part of the software, follow these steps:
    1.
Download the SharePoint Designer 2007. To do this, visit the following Microsoft website:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=BAA3AD86-BFC1-4BD4-9812-D9E710D44F42&displaylang=en
By doing this, you may create an Office customization tool (OCT). You must download the main .exe file, SharePointDesigner.exe, and then extract the files by using the command line. For example:
    \\Servername\ShareName\SharePointDesigner2007_download\SharePointDesigner.exe
    /extract:\\servername\sharename\
This extracts the Setup.exe file, the Admin folder, and so on. After you do this, run the following to create the customizations:
    \\Servername\ShareName\SharePointDesigner2007\setup.exe
    /admin
Within the OCT, go to Set feature installations state, and set everything except the MODI to
    not available.
    2.
If SharePoint is used in your environment, only installing MODI files, Owssup.dll and MSO.dll can be affected by this custom installation. To prevent this, you need to unregister
Name.dll. To do this, run the following command at a command line:
    msiexec /I {90120000-0017-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE} REMOVE=IMNFiles /qn /L*V C:\temp\loggingremoval.txt

  • Microsoft Office Document Imaging File

I have been using Photoshop Elements for several years. First Version 2 and now Version 7. Using XP64.
Now when I click on an edited file I get a reference to "Microsoft Office Document Imaging File". I did recently load in Microsoft Excel but am not understanding any relationship to Microsoft Office Document Imaging File. Does anyone have any words of wisdom?
    Thanks

Thanks for the reply and direction to continue.
I spent some time trying to determine how MS Office 2003 entered into
PhotoShop Elements 7.0. Apparently MS Office gets into whatever it wants to. I
tried to delete just the MS Document Imaging but all XP64 will allow is the
deletion of the shortcut to MS Office Document Imaging. There are also 5
other  MS Office applications. The only other option was to completely delete
Microsoft  Office which would have wiped out Excel as well. I would like to
    keep  Excel.
So I went to the All Programs option selected by  Start, opened Microsoft
Office 2003, selected Microsoft Office Tools and  deleted it. I restarted
twice and then started Photoshop  Elements. In the Edit mode I selected a
current folder and file,  and the File Type still comes up as Microsoft Document
for any edited  files. If the file is an original file it comes up as a CR2
    type file. As  usual.
When I double click on Excel it comes up as usual. Wants me to  register
after 40 uses. When I double click on a file the image comes up  for whatever
    I would like to do.
I guess all this is OK for now but it bugs me that MS can get into Adobe
PhotoShop Elements and do what it wants to do. I suspect that the opposite
    is not possible.

Restart your Mac before trying to download the file.
Do you have anti virus software installed or a program like LIttle Snitch?
If you are using Safari to download files, go to the Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
If that doesn't help, back to the menu bar, click Safari > Reset Safari. Select the top 5 boxes then click Reset.
If you still can't download the Java file, go to ~ / Library / Caches / com.apple.Safari
Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash and restart your Mac. Try downloading that file again.
If it still won't download without that dialog, go to ~/Library/Safari. Move the Downloads.plist file from the Safari folder to the Trash.
    Try again.

  • Revert/Reset placed document/image to original size?

In InDesign CS4 or CS5, can you revert/reset a placed document/image back to the origional size it was when it was origionaly placed?

Do you know what size it was when placed?
The only way I can find to be able to reset a frame to the size it was when it was created is to set the preference for "When Scaling:" to "Adjust Scaling Percentage" and then resetting to 100% will take you back to the correct size, but not necessarily the original position as this is just another transformation, not a reversion to anything. The BIG downside to this setting, in my opinion, is that if you scale a text frame, the listed font size won't change, nor will stroke weights be listed correctly on scaled objects, which can lead to a lot of head scratching.

  • "Microsoft Office Document Image Writer" = java.io.FileNotFoundException

I have an application that prints documents. We have observed that file reading and writing fails after a user prints with the Microsoft virtual printer: "Microsoft Office Document Image Writer".
Any subsequent file operation generates exceptions: java.io.FileNotFoundException.
There seems to be an accepted bug already: [http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6358014|http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6358014]
It's dated back to December 2005 without any resolution.
There was also a previous thread that was opened without any success for resolution: [previous thread|http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5208746]
    My questions are:
1- Is this bug related to printing or drawing?
2- Can this bug be fixed with client code, my application, or this needs to be fixed in the JVM?
3- Is this an Microsoft issue or Sun issue? Other application can print using this virtual driver.
To make matters worst, Eclipse can print using this driver and continue normal operation. Does Eclipse use a completely different code base?

  • Microsoft Office Document Imaging on OS X?

I have been using Windows / Office for some time now and have quite a large collection of digital documents I created using "Microsoft Office Document Imaging".
Is this tool part of Office 2008 for the Mac?
    or
Is there a similar tool I can use to manage & modify my existing collection of tiff digital documents?
    Thanks!
PS: My scanner is a Canon LiDE 25 and after a couple of kicks at the can appears to be working quite nicely with image capture.

Most of my documents are currently in jpeg or pdf. A friend recommended putting them in tiff using Microsoft Office Document Imaging. I have a 2001 version of Office on my Macbook which doesn't include MODI but this discussion seems to indicate that Adobe Acrobat works the same way (which I do have). I'm a genealogist so I have scanned or photographed images of historical documents, wills, deeds, etc. as well as photographs and would like to know the best way to format them without taking up huge amounts of space on my computer. I don't want to just put them on disks or flash drives because I want the images linked to the source list in my genealogy software (Reunion).
