Document Signing Security Properties

I can open the adobe reader for iOS getting started guide on my iPad and can sign it. I can not sign the same exact document when opened on my pc version of reader X. Document properties for signing under the security tab is set to Not Allowed. I am running v 10.4.4 for iOS and v 10.0.0 on my windows 7 laptop. My goal is to allow signature on both platforms. What caused me to post this is that the document properties for signing are set to Not Allowed for the getting started guide authored by Adobe and the actual result is not what I would expect and is inconsistent. Is this on a bug list ?!  Then if to be fixed I have to generate PDFs as part of my business process with signing allowed. My next step is to create a PDF with signing allowed and test on both platforms.
Thoughts ?! Can anyone reproduce this ? thanks

What Reader for Windows means when it shows that signing is not allowed is that digital signatures are not allowed. You would be able to digitally sign if the document had been Reader-enabled and the corresponding usage right had been applied. This requires Acrobat Pro or LiveCycle Reader extensions. Note that you can e-sign (which is not the same as digitally sign) using the new EchoSign feautures if you update Reader to 10.1.x, which is very similar to what Reader for iOS allows. If you upgrade to Reader 11, you can also add a hand-drawn signature with the freehand pen/pencil tool.

  • PDF Properties/Document Protection/Security/show details. List differs from Document Restriction Summary.

    Hello
I have a number of PDFs that have user permissions.  When the files are opened in Adobe Reader the document's restriction summary lists differ and the form cannot be used as intended.

I am mystified why the two lists differ and the document when in use seems to be controlled by the list on the right, which takes away some of the user rights.
Is there an explanation for this. I would have thought that as the documents were password protected for permissions such as commenting and signing Adobe Reader could not change this.
    Eric.

Yes, thats right. I used Open Office 3 to generate the pdf. I have also tried using pdftk and Adobe Distiller 5 with the same result.
Your statement implies, the 'Adobe Reader' features cannot be fully utilized without a valid Adobe Acrobat Pro.
This is a document to which I have the source. I have been able to create the pdf with the required set of permissions based on standards. But I am being hassled because I didn't generate it with Adobe Pro! Well, I suppose this must have been a business decision, but its one thats standards contrary and morally low!
Adobe just lost an avid Reader user. I shall circulate my findings within my work and social circles. Thanks to competition and open source, I am sure to find a standards compliant reader without much delay.
Thanks for your help - graffiti

  • Removing document restrictions (security)

I have a form which will not allow a customer to Insert Pages. I have set the Document Properties to No Security, and the Restrictions Summary shows "Allowed" for everything but Creation of Template Pages, which is fine. When I ok these settings, the Insert/Extract/Delete pages, etc. remains greyed out. If I check Security on the Task bar, it shows that security settings have been removed, but it will not enable these document features. I've tried using Password Security for the customer to use to change the restrictions, but that doesn't work either. I've tried everything in the Help and searched the knowledge base and have come up empty. I'm at my wits end and Adobe will only help me for a fee. Can anyone tell me what I must be doing wrong?

    Hi Holly,
Question - is that all you want to do? Or do the documents have value to you such that you want to maintain control over how long they are used, by whom, and for how long?
    1. If the former, you can use password protection to protect the documents, and format them so that they cannot be altered.
From within Adobe Acrobat 8 with the document visible.
Select Secure / Password Encrypt / Permissions
Click on Restrict Editing and Printing
Key in a protection password (I use the same for all documents)
Select Printing permissions "High Resolution" from drop down menu
Select Changes Allowed "None" from Drop Down Menu
Make sure "Enable copying of text, images.... box is unchecked
Don't worry about creating Security Envelopes or anything else. Just click cancel if those windows pop up.
Your security changes will not take effect until you save the document. Once saved, you can go to Secure / Show Security Properties / Show Details to confirm that all settings are as you want.
    2. If you want to do the latter, you can sign up for Adobe Live Cycle Policy Server protection of the document. Adobe just came out with a new service. Right now its free. Later to be subscription based.
    https://dc.adobe.com/adc/login.do?nextURL=https%3A%2F%2Fdc.adobe.com%2Fadc%2Fadc.do
I use this, since I want to maintain control over the documents. I let people print only. No other changes, no copying, no emailing. And the document "self destructs" on the date I set for its expiration.

  • Changing security properties

how do I change security properties in Adobe Reader X or in Acrobat.com? I can create pdf's and convert but my documents have no security.

There is no mechanism for changing the security on a PDF file from within Acrobat.com. You can choose to make it private or public, but that's all.
To add password protection, you'll need to use Adobe Acrobat.
    Hope this helps!

set  .How do i do that?
    ex
i e   add more properties in document set contents as it inherits from document set
    Thanks in advance
    nain1987

Click Library settings on the ribbon, and within that click the Document Set Content Type.
The next page you'll see has an option called Document Set Settings.
Here you can specify properties for the document set itself, plus which are inherited by the items in the document set.
If you want items to have properties independent of the document set, add those in the library settings page.
If you want to change what is displayed, change the Views for the library or those views used by the document set.

Hi rhayn, I think you're getting confused about what "file sharing" really is used for. You need to say to yourself "do I want someone on another machine to access these files?" If yes, you need file sharing; if no, forget about it.
So, the second user, are they on another machine or are they using the same mac as you?
Just as in windows, when you share a folder over the network, you can set different permissions on the "share" compared to the permissions on the files and folders themselves. In all cases, the most restrictive permissions apply. Therefore if you give read/write to the shared folder (the "share"), but a folder is read only (to the second user), they will be able to view the list of files in that folder, but not open them (equivalent to the windows permission called "list folder contents"). If the folder was read/write, the second user can create files and edit them. If the folder is read/write and existing files are read only, they can open them but not save changes. Where OS X differs from windows is the mechanism for setting permissions; OS X uses the unix/posix permission system. In addition, if you are the owner of the folder or file, you can always do anything with the folder or file.
All of the above paragraph is only information you need to use IF the other user is connecting to your mac from ANOTHER computer across a network.

  • Viewing/setting java security properties

I am using a thrid party utility that is calling InetAddress.getLocalHost(). After checking the performance from JProfiler, I observed that this method poor at performance. Javadoc mentions that INetAddress is cached which is controlled by two java security properties: networkaddress.cache.ttl  and networkaddress.cache.negative.ttl. How do I view this property value and change it if required?

I have done a little bit of more research in Java forums regarding setting these system properties. It looks like setting them is the only option to be able to connect to a Glassfish AS running on a seperate server, as the driver classes check this property at runtime to determine the host.
So I am basically left with the only choice of finding a convenient way to set these properties properly per communication channel, but unfortunately, I still am not able to find how.

  • CIFS, not showing security properties

When attempting to view the security properties of a remote share we get an error message that says, "Unable to display security information".  This happens when bringing up a remote server via UNC path, right clicking on a share or folder, and selecting the security tab.  This only happens when viewing them through an optimized connection.  If the domain admin remotes directly to that server, or another server at the same location, they are able to browse the properties fine.
We're using 4.1.3 and have disabled legacy WAFS services.  All of our CIFS traffic is going through the CIFS accelerator.  Couple of questions:
-Isn't the CIFS accelerator supposed to be transparent and pass this information along?
-Do the WAE's still need to be joined to the domain?  I though this was a legacy WAFS function
-I did packet captures on both ends of the connection (and on the WAE) but didn't see anything obvious in the way of errors, any specific thing I can look for?
    Thanks!

In the failed trace, note that the NT Security Descriptor Length in frame 392 is 0, whereas in the working trace it is >0.  This looks like bug CSCtg28040, which is fixed in the WAAS 4.1.5f release.  Can you confirm that you have installed Microsoft patch MS10-020 (KB980232)?
    Thanks again for the traces.

    Hello lkmaier,
As of now, its  not possible to save the email addresses manually in EchoSign. They are automatically stored once you send the document out for signature. Later, when you start typing the email address in To field in Send page, the email address is automatically shown up.

  • Security properties of jks and jceks keystore implementations

    Hi,
could somebody point me to a description of the security properties of the jks and jceks keystore implementations, which allow me to judge how secure they are?
    Thanks in advance!
    Basti

    http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/security/crypto/CryptoSpec.html#KeyManagement
Both are only as strong as the password used to protect them. Apparently JKS is relatively weak, JCEKS is probably equivalent to a PKCS12 as both can use 3DES PBE.
If you want good private key storage you need to move to hardware tokens and the PKCS11 interface.

  • Adobe Reader document security properties miss-match

    Hi,
I've created a document with document assembly allowed and form filling diss-allowed. Infact it's security bitmap mask is:
    011011011100 or -2340
So you can clearly see that:
bit 9 is off, signifying form filling is NOT allowed
bit 11 is on, signifying document assembly IS allowed
Problem is I'm seeing this in adobe reader:
    So my questions:
Why is there an inconsistency between the two dialogs?
Why in the first dialog is form filling allowed?
    Thanks in advanced!
    Andy.

If you are using your own software, I would think that your question is not directly related with Adobe and/or Reader.
I have to disagree, perhaps you didn't see my first post with my two specific questions?
Why is there an inconsistency between the two dialogs [in adobe reader]?
Why in the first dialog [in adobe reader] is form filling allowed?
So to re-iterate. I've created a PDF with a bitmask (which you can see in my first post) which, to the best of my understanding and interpretation of the PDF spec is correct and valid for a PDF that should diss-allow form filling. This part should really not be in question, unless of course I've interperated the PDF spec wrong and the bitmask is wrong. Either way, the bitmask shows that form filling is not enabled. In adobe reader, the first security details screen says that form filling is enabled. My question is simple, why? Also, why is it inconsistent between the two properties forms?
Anyone have any knowledge about these two security dialogs in adobe reader?
    I hope this helps!
    Thanks a lot!
    Andy.
