DoD Category I issues with JRE on Linux OS

My company has a medical equipment solution installed within the US DoD running Java SE 6 on Linux. In order to address a Cat 1 security issue, 6u81 is required. My company has an advanced support contract, so we have access to this Java update. However, our legal department indicates the Oracle EULA prevents us from applying the update on the US government system. They say that the government must download and apply the update.
Please clarify if the US government is entitled to received Java SE 6u81 to address this finding either through our support agreement or via support agreements between Oracle and the US government.

Hi - thanks for your reply.
I try not to use Iphoto, although it does sometimes kick in before i can cancel it. Normally, i copy the records from the card to the Imac hard drive.
I'm assuming the CF card may have been formatted by a previous windows machine at some point. Is this likely to be an issue?

• Compile issues with cross-mipsel-linux-gnu-gcc

I'm trying to set up some sort of cross-compilation environment in order to compile software for a MIPS device.
I installed cross-mipsel-linux-gnu-gcc (4.7.2-1) along with cross-mipsel-linux-gnu-binutils (2.22-1). Then I tried to compile a simple Hello World, and the result was as follows:
[mcmlxxxvi@deepspace1 hello-world]$ cat hello.c
#include <stdio.h>
int main()
printf("Hello World!\n");
return 0;

I know I generally need a compatible glibc build, but a) there isn't a package pre-built for MIPS as the compiler, and b) there is no mention of glibc in either gcc or binutils' AUR pages. So I thought that these two packages were somehow supposed to be sufficient - and they aren't.
I found a tutorial on setting up cross-compilation for MIPS and I tried to build libc, but as I used the gcc and bunutils AUR pacakges instead of going straight for the source, and, probably, as the tutorial is geared towards slightly older versions, I did not succeed. configure produced only a config.log and I wasn't able to make.
So, how are cross-mipsel-linux-gnu-gcc and cross-mipsel-linux-gnu-binutils supposed to be used? How do I need to set up my environment in order to be able to invoke the MIPS gcc the same way as my regular gcc?
Thanks in advance.

The problem is gone after going to Kernel 39 in testing.

Picture Kernel Configuration
So I decided to build a custom kernel and see if the module is configured to load when compiled.. which it was, so I decided to add the msdostools along with the vfat module just incase and compiled it.... After all the waiting I tried to install the custom kernel which resulted in the same issue again. I have also tried installing the linux-lts package which also has the same issue. May I pick your brains for a few ideas? I really hope not to stay on 3.15.5 forever...

No I don't I just use the generic config file when I run mkinitcpio

If you already compile your own kernel with minimal modules (e.g. via localmodconfig) it would make the process smoother/quicker. It helps if you have a custom kernel PKGBUILD handy.
The good news is that between 3.15.5 and 3.15.6 there aren't many patches going into the kernel so it's a small pool to catch the fish.
Okay thanks for the heads up. I will look into this when I find some time, I will need to get 3.15.6 again but I can get that from the Arch Rollback Machine or get a friend (who is also on arch x86_64) to send it to me.

When I first installed Arch on my new laptop that used EFI, I had to remember to MANUALLY copy to the ESP the new Kernel images, etc. after a Kernel update. If I didn't, I would get the "vfat" error. Could this be your issue? Are you sure that after updating the Kernel, the new image/etc. is actually the stuff you're booting from?
Really? So where would the would the kernel images be if they are not already in the ESP ?

Since the SP is on connection pool (and looks like expecting a input value), that may causing for error.

• Installation issues with JRE, Auto Update, win 2008 and terminal services

Hello,
We have seven Windows 2008 servers running Terminal Services in one TS farm. I have approximately 600 users accessing these servers. We have a need for the Java JRE. The JRE is to be installed on each of the seven servers since the user has no input into which server they log on to (round robin / load balancing)
There are several issues that have occurred with this installation. I install the JRE on each of the servers when there is no one logged on. I turn off both of the update features while installing as administrator. When the users log on, however they are at some point prompted for an admin password to update Java. The users have no need to update java as all updates will be performed by the system admin. Additionally, when the user runs any app that uses the Java plug-in, they get a folder put on their desktop labeled Sun.
Are there special instructions for installing Java when using Terminal Services and Windows 2008? As you can well see, 600 calls to the help desk asking about this update popup is not productive and accessing 600 users accounts and turning off the auto update on an individual basis is not practical. The user cannot disable this update anyway. They options are grayed out at the user level.
If this is not the proper forum to ask these question, please forward this message to the proper department or let me know who I should/could contact to resolve these issues.
Best regards,
Bob

I mean to only explain 1 enviornment. We have a windows 2008 terminal server. It has JRE 1.6.0_07 (32bit) install on it. The users use this server for Office Apps and to Access our software which is web based and requires a JRE to be able to work.
When the users login the terminal server picks up there local timezone from the machine they are logging in from and apply's it to there terminal server session. The problem is when the jre is launched it is picking up the server timezone, not the timezone from the users session(which is different).
Does this clarify it?Nope.
Either the user is running the jre or the server is. Or maybe both. Seems like all of those are possible from your explanation.
It doesn't matter what the jre is running. What matters is who runs the jre.
Best I can suppose your situation is as follows.
- The server, not a user, is running a jre with one or more applications.
- The users use something, probably a browser, to access that server app (it doesn't even matter that it is java in terms of what the users are doing.)
If and only if that is your situation then you MUST pass information from the browser session to the server (java or anything else for that matter) and you MUST use that information in the server code to display time information.

• Installing JRE on RHE 3 - Issues with JRE Path

Hello,
First of all, I am very new to linux (I normally have server admins but since it's weekend it looks very bad)
I have installed j2sdk1.4.2 today but it seems like something went really wrong as we cannot locate jre.
I have installed a chat server which has a startup file containing:
#!/bin/sh
jre -ms8m -mx128m -classpath $CLASSPATH:NetDiveServer.jar NetDiveServer port=2112 httpPort=2113 config=.
After running it I simply get the message
jre: command not found
Maybe somebody could point me to some site where oath setups are explained very well since I am very new to this. I believe it is all about setting up paths so maybe somebody could help out there.
Thanks

Thanks for your qucik reply. If I can get JRE and Jedit working on my jumpdrive, it will be great and save me a lot of time. I am a new user so I might be asking some obvious questions here.
My question is : What is the difference between integrating JRE with IE and JRE with Jedit? If I run JRE as a stand alone program then will Jedit link to the JRE properly? Anyone care to comment on what the standard installation program does to provide the integration? I guess it is more than just copying files.
What happens if there is another JRE running already? maybe the same or different version of JRE as the one on my jump drive.
Thanks for your help.
Ken.

Oh wait, now that I re-read your message I see you are not having a problem with VNC. This document page is a continuation of my OATS install process on Linux. For the install, you need to be sure the user which is logged into the Linux UI has proper rights access to the unzipped install files.

The uninstall script even runs silent when Java runs in a browser while uninstall is executed since version 1.7.0.55.
With the new JRE Version 1.7.0_60 a window appears during silent uninstall saying that i have to close the browser to proceed. I think it has to be a bug because we use the MSI-Installer with "/qn"-property and there should never be any window but an errorcode on the command line.
It happens with x86 and (if a x64 Internet Explorer Tab is open) with x64 silent uninstall.
Can someone confirm this behavior and report this bug? Or can someone tell me where I could report this bug myself?

I'd say you can report the bug on http://bugreport.java.com/ under "Submit a Bug".

String str = "https://ppp.qqq.com/admin/50_splash.gif";
try {
URL url = new URL(str);
URLConnection con = url.openConnection();
HttpsURLConnection conn = (HttpsURLConnection) url.openConnection();
con.setDoInput(true);
try {
con.connect(); //-->hangs here
It looks to me like at this point plugin tries to popup the authentication dialog box but it cannot.
Thanks

• Any issues with using LDAP on LINUX for GRC 5.2 UME?

Our company is converting our LDAP servers from AIX to LINUX. The DNS name used in our UME connection should not change. Are there any issues with using LDAP on LINUX? We are currently on GRC 5.2 SP9 (in the middle of upgrading to SP12).
Also, I have been trying to connect our test UME system to a test LDAP box that has already been converted to LINUX but keep getting a 'connection failed' error when I try to test it.
Do you have to reboot the server to test changing the LDAP connections? I've been trying it by going into UME, pulling up the LDAP tab, hitting the Modify button, entering the new userid and password for test LDAP, and hitting the Test Connection button. I've verified that this userid and password is correct for test LDAP.
Is there a way to get more information about why the connection failed?
Thanks.

I've been told by our LDAP Support group that none of the other configuration settings should have to be changed. I should only have to change the id and password to connect to a test version of LDAP instead of our regular connection to the production LDAP.
Can you test a connection for a different userid/password without having to reboot/restart the server? Do I need to change these two settings, save then, reboot/restart, and then do the Test Connection button?
Thanks.

• Issue with Weblogic services in Linux OBIEE 11G

Hello All,
I have a OBI 11G set up on a linux OS.I am facing a issue with weblogic service.
Whenever I am trying to start the Admin server from command line using its .sh , it is starting successfully.
But whenever I am closing that Linux session or coming out of the Admin server log , this service is getting stopped on its own.
OBI is working perfectly when that Linux session and Admin server log is intact, but as soon as i close either of them Admin server shut itself down.
Please any help on this will be appreciated.

• Install PT8.53 with Linux Issue: Windows NetMgr and Linux NetMgr

Folks,
Hello. I am installing PeopleTools 8.53 Internet Architecture. Database Server is Oracle Dabase 11gR1. OS is Oracle Linux 5. I have installed JDK7, WebLogic 10.3.6, Tuxedo 11gR1 and PeopleTools 8.53 successfully into Oracle Linux 5.
I have been setting up PeopleTools8.53 Database. Because the Install Wizard has problem, I set up PeopleTools 8.53 Database manually using Oracle starter database instance PT853. I have run the following scripts:
1) utlspace.sql
2) dbowner.sql
3) ptddl.sql
4) psadmin.sql
5) psroles.sql
6) connect.sql
Then, we need to run Data Mover script in a Windows Client machine to populate PeopleTools Database instance PT853 in Linux Sever machine. I have installed Oracle Database 11gR2 client for 32-bit Windows in my 64-bit Windows XP Virtual Machine. Now, I confront 2 VMs' connection issue as below:
In Linux Server Machine Net Manager:
Service Name: PT853
Connection Type: Database Default
Protocol" TCP/IP
Host Name: localhost.localdomain
Port Name: 1521
Listener: LISTENER
Protocol: TCP/IP
Host: localhost.localdomain
Port: 1521
I test the Service PT853 using UserID "SYSADM" and Password "SYSADM". The connection is successful.
In Windows Client machine, the information in Net Manager is the same, but the connection is not successful. Its details are as below:
Net Service Name: PT853
Protocol: TCP/IP
Host name of Database Machine: localhost.localdomain
Port Number: 1521
Database Service Name: PT853
Connection Type: Database Default
I test the Service using UserID "SYSADM" and Password "SYSADM" that are the same with Linux, but get this error: TNS: listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor.
My questions are:
Do we need to do something to connect Windows XP with Linux at first ? If yes, How to do it ? If no, how to solve the above issue ?
Thanks.

Folks,
Hello. Thanks a lot for replying.
Regarding PeopleSoft networking, I have done Configuration Manager to enable Data Mover and Application Designer to login into Database Instance PT853.
Regarding 2 Virtual Machines (Windows XP and Oracle Linux 5) connects with each other, I have done the following:
First, I follow this tutorial http://www.vmware.com/support/ws5/doc/ws_devices_serial_2vms.html to configure 2 VMs for Windows 7 Host.
Second, in Windows XP Oracle Database Client Install Directory, the file "tnsnames.ora" has one entry that is the Service Name in Net Manager. In Linux Oracle Database Server install directory, the file "tnsnames.ora" has no entries because I installed Oracle Database Server with the starter Database instance PT853.
I have tried to test 2 VMs in the way as below:
In Linux, [user@localhost ~]$ping WindowsHostName
Its output: unknown host WindowsHostName
In Windows XP Command Prompt:
C:\ping localhost.localdomain
Its output: pinging localhost.localdomain 127.0.0.1 with 32 bytes of data...
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time=2ms, TTL=128
It replies a few times and then disconnected by itself. It seems that Windows XP is pinging itself and not Linux Server. The hostname of Linux Server is "localhost.localdomain" as well. It's a kind of confusing to me.
From the above infromation, we can see 2 VMs cannot connect with each other. Net Manager in Windows XP Oracle Client cannot connect its Service PT853.
I don't understand how to connect Oracle Client in Windows with Oracle Database Server in Linux. Can any folk help to solve this issue ?
Very grateful in advanced.

• Weird issue with 10.0.1.0 on Linux - 5 mins delay in server start-up!!

Hi ...
I am having some weird (and unique??) issue with WLS 10.0.1.0 on RHEL servers.
WLS installation on our DEV env works perfectly fine and the server starts up in 15-20 secs. for each of the two domains created on it.
But the QA server is another story all together ! ... It has the same OS and version, WSL installation and version, hardware configs, processes running at the time of start-up etc. But the problem is that when I try to start the server on the only domain on that server, it always gets delayed by 5-6 mins in between the startup at this point -
+<Feb 17, 2009 *7:04:50 *PM UTC> <Info> <Management> <BEA-141107> <Version: WebLogic Server 10.0 MP1 Thu Oct 18 20:17:44 EDT 2007 1005184 >+
+<Feb 17, 2009 *7:10:56 *PM UTC> <Info> <WebLogicServer> <BEA-000215> <Loaded License : /opt/bea/license.bea>+
(Notice the 6 mins delay in the timestamps)
There are no logs getting generated within this time and it seems like the WLS 10.0.1.0 just spaces out
After the delay it starts up pretty fast .. within 10-15 secs!!
Anybody here seen such behavior with WLS
thanks,

I recommend taking some thread dumps during this delay and contacting support to get some advice.
You can take the thread dumps by kill -3, JRockit Mission Control, etc.

• Linux issue with Flash Media Server 2

Greetings all,
We have just upgraded from Flash Communication Server 1.5 to
Flash Media Server 2, running on a server with Redhat Enterprise
Linux 4.
For some reason, a Flash movie that uses the old
MediaPlayBack component does not stream video of a FLV. It does
stream audio. On my testing server using Windows 2000 it functioned
fine.
On the other hand, the FLVPlayback component works nicely.
But I will have to go back and rewrite literally dozens of
applications that I wrote for Flash Comm 1.5 which used the
MediaPlaybackComponent, unless there is an easy fix for this.
I have documented this anomaly with a Captivate movie which
you can see at
http://breeze.stfrancis.edu:8900/mediaplayerwoes/.
It runs 2 minutes 13 seconds.
I BADLY need help with this. If you can help I would greatly
appreciate it.

• Linux NSS DB Issue with Personal User/Client Certificate Friendly Names.

I have an issue with the NSSDB lib and my browsers in which client certificates I use for an application (Nessus Vulnerability Scanner) show up in the list with the same friendly name/nickname, making it very difficult to distinguish which certificate goes with which server.
Each certificate is generated on a different server with a different hostname but the same username. Upon importing the certificate into my browser, or even the pk12util command, the first certificate will appear correctly. However, importing additional certificates will just reuse the nickname from the first certificate instead of the nickname I chose. I have tested many different scenarios, and it doesn't seem the problem is related at all to the content of the nickname, so I have no idea how to force it to work correctly. I've searched around and found some indications of "nickname conflicts" and things, but nothing that helps me resolve the issue. I'm not sure if it's a bug or if it's some weird condition I've encountered.
