Does Apple TV do mirroring from an iMac?

Does Apple TV do mirroring from an iMac? If not, how can I play content from my iMac to my Apple TV?

Thanks. That's what I thought but I bought an Apple TV anyway. Probably going to have to get a Mac Mini for everything I want though.

can i mirror from my iMac  with OS X ?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). It also requires the computer to be using wi-fi.

  • HT204291 Does mirroring automatically mirror content to other devices which are registered under the same name ? If so does this occur across different distances? Does Apple Tv store mirrored content?

Does apple tv automatically mirror content from one device to all other iPad or  mackbook devises which are registered under the same name? If so does a device have to be in the same area ?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Mirroring only works FROM a mobile device TO an Apple TV.

  • Does Apple make a pdf reader for iMac?

Tired of downloading Adobe updates. Does Apple make a pdf reader for iMac?

It's called Preview and is part of the OS X installation. You will see it in the Dock and in Applications folder.

  • Does Apple TV remote work from anywhere in the house?

Does Apple TV remote work from anywhere in the house?

it's IR like a normal tv remote it's not wifi or anything like that
so it will work the same way in relations to the appletv as your tv remote works in terms of the tv

  • Where does apple get their wallpapers from

Where does apple get their wallpapers from and how can you contribute.

Apple seems to use a wide source for their screen images...some were from NASA (such as Lion and Mountain Lion), some may have been photo pros.
If you want, contact Apple by way of feedback, http://www.apple.com/feedback and at corporate: http://www.apple.com/contact

  • Does apple have an app for the iMac which is similar to Microsoft office?

does apple have an app which is equivelant to microsoft office?

However, I don't think the current version runs on any of the pre-2006 iMacs this forum covers. If you iMac is pre-2006, we can give you some options if you tell us more about your computer, mainly processor type and Mac OSX version from "About this Mac" in your Apple menu.
Microsoft makes Office for Mac but, again, what you can run depends on what iMac variant you have and its OS version.

    OS X Internet Recovery
Mac models introduced after public availability of OS X Lion include the ability to start up directly from an Internet-based version of the OS X Recovery system. OS X automatically uses this feature when the Recovery System on the hard disk isn't available (such as when your hard disk encounters an issue, or when your hard disk has been replaced or erased). OS X Internet Recovery lets you start your Mac directly from Apple's servers. Starting up from this system performs a quick test of your memory and hard drive to check for hardware issues.
OS X Internet Recovery presents a limited interface at first, with only the ability to select your preferred Wi-Fi network and, if needed, entering a passphrase. Next, OS X Internet Recovery downloads and starts from a Recovery System image. From there, you are offered the same utilities and options as a local Recovery System.

  • Does apple tv breakout audio from thunderbolt

Looking to stream movies from my Macbook Air 11in to my Sony Plasma.  From what I can gather, Apple TV will accept the Macbook Air's HDMI signal over WIFI then pass it on to the TV, however the TV does not support digital audio from the HDMI jack only analog.  So, I would need to breakout the digital audio from the HDMI port on the Apple TV unit and convert it to analog and then send it to a Bose Lifestyle Home Theater setup. Will the Apple TV unit breakout the digital audio from the HDMI feed coming from my Macbook Air.  (I do have the mid to late MACbook Air that supports digital audio from the Thuderbolt port.)

you can a strange sony tv then because all other devices with hdmi support digital audio over hdmi
my sony tv sure works fine with hdmi audio

  • How does Apple TV sort photos from Aperture?

I have arranged a set of photos in Aperture in a Project.
When I go to show these on the Apple TV, they appear randomly and not in the order that I have them in the Aperture Project.
How does Apple TV sort the photos that it reads from my Aperture project?
If I understand how it handles this, I can adjust the metadata to insure it shows as I want.
I look forward to hearing back from folks about how this works.
    Thanks.

I figured it out.  It is by the date and time code on the picture.

  • Using Apple TV to mirror from a pc using Widi possible?

Can I use Apple TV as an adapter to mirror the video from my pc using Intel Widi?  I heard the 3rd generation Apple TV supports Widi but I can't figure out how to connect.  When Intel Widi scans for available adapters it does not see the Apple TV.  The Intel Widi help utility says that the TV should be displaying the "To Get Started" screen, but I don't know how to get the TV to do that.  I'm trying to run Intel Widi from a PC running Windows 8.0 and I've heard that Windows 8.1 is required, but if so I'm not sure why the Intel Widi program would be pre-installed on my 8.0 machine and running at all up to the stage where it is scanning for available adaptors.

No. But you can use a 3rd party program like Airparrot to mirror your display.

  • How does apple TV cache content, + use with imac

I am thinking about buying an apple TV, but have some questions
-does the Apple TV only stream content in real time, or can it store content e.g If I want to watch a film with the family, can I download the full film to the apple tv in advance, or does it just stream in real time, with a buffer? I am slightly concerned about internet issues interrupting a film.
-If I have an Itunes rental film on an Imac, I understand the Apple TV will stream it. Wont the film be the wrong size if its on the Imac e.g formatted for the Imac, but not a 720P TV? Will there be some loss of quality?

Yes, the ATV2 only streams. It has an 8gb cache that stores the film as you watch it but you cannot use it as a hard-drive.
I believe you can rent HD movies on the computer, albeit a more limited selection. Even so you won't have any format issues.

  • When printing a photobook does Apple convert the images from RGB to CMYK?

I'm a little confused by Apple's Photobooks. Most printers require all images to be in the CMYK colourspace, since the inks used are always CMYK. Yet Apple requires Photobook images to be jpegs in the RGB colourspace. Does this mean Apple's printers (presumably plural, since they are all over the world) do some sort of autoconversion RGB to CMYK? Surely this would result in a major downgrading of quality? I've seen a few non-Apple photobooks printed with unconverted RGB images, and they look dreadful  - overblown red and yellows, with awful colour casts. I've not seen an Apple Photobook myself, presumably the colours are realistic?
    Comments anyone?

    Quote from the Reference:
    Linear Light
Burns or dodges the colors by decreasing or increasing the brightness, depending on the blend color. If the blend color (light source) is lighter than 50% gray, the image is lightened by increasing the brightness. If the blend color is darker than 50% gray, the image is darkened by decreasing the brightness.
Now consider the values that a neutral medium grey would have in the RGB and the CMYK spaces you use.

  • Why does Apple not allow purchases from different "apple stores"?

Why pigeon hole people and restrict them from Purchasing Apps from whichever country they want to? Is this just another example of Apple's need to Control people?

Apple has their reasons and certainly does not disclose them here.  Speculating on their decisions is a violation of the terms of use of this forum.

  • Does Apple TV play slideshows from iPhoto '09?

I created a slideshow in iPhoto with all the graphics, music, etc and exported it to iTunes. When it syncs up, Apple TV recognizes the slideshow, but plays it as just a regular album with no music at all. Is there no way to have it show up and sound the way it does on the mac?

Not currently. The tools will be given to developers and it will be up to them in terms of which apps are supported.
