Does Calabrio cruise this forum? NICQ question ..

Howdy,
I have a question about the NICQ.exe app they included with the agent desktop. We are unable to silent monitor an agent and we suspect the NIC however, we cannot, without a doubt, say it's the wired network adapter. And because they are a remote user it's mighty tough to get our hands on their laptop. The agent is on VPN and is also using the Cisco IP Communicator. And yes, we can successfully silent monitor other remote agents on VPN and using CIPCs.
The output from the NICQ test implies the card does not support promiscuous mode and I asked the vendor. They requested we ask the NICQ.exe vendor to verify they use the proper IOCTL to enable the Promiscuous mode. So, I'm wondering if I can ask that question here or if I need to ask Calabrio directly?
Output from the NICQ test. The registry stuff has been snipped.

p.s. If Anthony replies he gets an auto 4 star rating because he rocks.

Anthony's correct - we typcially don't review this forum.  That said, it did make it's way across by desk.  There are two considerations here.  Firstly, getting the NIC into promiscous mode is only necessary if the phone is daisy chained off the workstation.  It's not needed with Cisco IPC - the voice packets are getting to the NIC for the agent to use the phone.  So CAD's device drivers should be seeing those packets, too.  Make sense?
(And yes, my DE said we do use the proper IOCTL to enable the Promiscuous mode.)
One suggestion - it may be the case that CAD, for some reason, is trying to sniff packets on an unused NIC.  The user cna choose which NIC they want CAD to use by by running PostInstall.exe (located in the folder …\Program Files\Cisco\Desktop\bin.
Beyond that, you'll want to open a ticket with Cisco TAC.

Tom

  • Does anyone think this forum is an improvement?

The previous webforum/NNTP interface had roughly 90 percent of the questions coming from the webforum, and 90 percent of the mostly correct replies coming from the NNTP newgroup users.
The newsgroup users are for the most part NOT going to use this web forum.
so for the most part- there are 50 or 100 people who tried to offer help daily, who are not "in here" and won't participate because this web forum interface is just slow and clunky and flashy. We just want TEXT. NNTP. WORDS.
I've been ACE and TMM longer than i can remember. Not renewing.

Completely wrong. Although NNTP access has been removed, it's perfectly possible to do everything through email or an RSS feed. I'm monitoring several forums through email, which displays no icons, avatars, or images.
One does not require an icon, avatar, or image to receive an indication that a topic has been resolved.  The same information could be passed through text.  Is it not?  :smile
In any case this diverges from the question of measuring this forum's success.
The question of whether an issue has been "resolved" is also moot. An inexperienced person is quite likely to mark a question as "answered", even if the answer is wrong, incomplete, or no longer represents best practice.
The last time I posted in this regard it was in response to how one might measure success in this forum.  Within this context I would much prefer a measure of consumer satisfaction over the "crude" measure of noise that you have suggested.
Moreover, once a question has been marked as "answered", the setting cannot be changed.
Obviously a weakness in the system, but still a better indicator of success than your proposed measure of noise.
Things are not quite so clear cut as you seem to think.
If you ever knew how I thought, then communication between us would not be so difficult.  Once again, your thoughts with regard to the vertical centering of text in a floated <span> tag would be greatly appreciated.  Just do not provide them here, as this is not where I posed the original question.

  • Does Anyone Read This Forum?!?!

If so, can you please respond to my questions at http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=736080&tstart=0

    OK

  • Does Anyone Visit This Forum?? Frequent "timeouts" while something(?) happens in the background

I'm running FF 6.0 on a Compaq laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium. Once every 15 minutes or so while browsing, the screen will "fade out" and the little "busy" circle will spin for about 15 seconds before the session resumes. This is a recent development. I've run every spyware/malware check Symantec offers
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Playing with Notification center, un-install the application, reboot..., this does not help for me.
I am using Cisco Jabber Voice 9.1.6 on iPhone5S IOS-7.1.
I had the same issue with my old iPhone4 in dec. 2013. This was fixed by migrating my configuration to a new iPhone5S and told everyone that Jabber Voice is now working but need a new device.
Now after 2 months of correct usage. It is no more possible to receive a call as I cannot keep Jabber open. Nothing has changed on the Cisco server. The application and the iPhone IOS was updated.
    A huge notification bug somewhere.

  • Does this forum cover UI design for an app as well?

Because the objective is so different web design and UI design are two related topics... I don't seem to see a separate forum for UI design, does that mean this forum would cover app UI design as well?
    Thanks.

    knowledgenotebook,
I believe the (general) Design forum is a better place to ask (many (of the same) natives turn up both here and there).

  • Love this forum page

I have never found a more helpful, quick to respond forum. I have a PC question and I want to appologize before hand for posting it. It looks like this forum is specific to cisco routers and I should be posting to another forum site. Like said, I love this forum. Question - I have a dell latitude D800. I was in the process of updating hardware/software from Dells website. After finishing, i closed the conection and turned the computer off. I see this message that 42 updates were being installed but I never clicked the update tab. It just did it by itself. Is there anyway of finding out exactly what the updates were for? Should I do a system restore from a day or two ago - would that get rid of any updates that got installed today? I only use the dell website to perform any needed updates. Thanks!

Thank you for that feedback. Unfortunately, you are right. This forum only supports Cisco and Linksys Home devices.
Best to ask in the Dell forums.

  • How to effectively ask a question on this forum

Ok, so this'll take a little explaining. I was kinda bored over my lunch break, so i decided I'd write a general reference for how to post well on this forum. I realize that many people aren't gonna read this the first time they post, but i thought it would be a good thing to reference when replying to people who post a poor question.
_10 Ways to Post a Good Question on this Forum_
_1) Write a descriptive subject line_
This is the first thing that people see, and it influences how they read a question. Subjects like "Java error" tell people nothing about your problem. Subjects like "How to implement a SAX parser for use in multiple classes" are infinitely more useful.
_2) Don't use phrases such as URGENT or HELP ME!!! or IT'S DUE IN AN HOUR!!!!_
The people on this forum don't have the same priorities as you, and therefore don't care if your problem is urgent. In fact, they find it rude to assert that your problem should be solved before somebody else's just because you procrastinated. They also don't pleas for help too fondly. Typically posters who write this sort of phrase in their post has given up and become helpless, making it very difficult to guide them to the answer. Also, keep the caps lock off. THERE IS NOTHING MORE ANNOYING THAN ALL-CAPS POSTS. IT SEEMS LIKE YOU ARE YELLING, and people will make you aware of how it annoys them.
_3) Dont post your homework assignments asking for "teh codez"_
You will get flamed like none other for this sort of question. You may get codes, but when you submit them to your instructor, you may get suspended or expelled (depending on your school's cheating policy). The people on this forum are more advanced than you in Java, and can make it painfully obvious to your instructor that you cheated.
    _4) Write in normal English_
Think of this forum as your supervisor or instructor, you want to sound professional and convey your question effectively. SMS speak or any other sort of abbreviation of the English language becomes difficult to read, and many people on this forum won't even try. This forum is filled with professionals in the Java world, and they are accustomed to reading true English (full sentences).
    _5) Don't be helpless_
This forum is here mainly to help with specific problems, not to teach you Java. If you don't know where to start, a person is most likely going to tell you to write the solution out on paper first, breaking it down into small steps that can be accomplished by the computer.
    _6) Do your research_
Many of the questions posted can be solved with a quick Google search. You should check a few places before you even post a question. They include: this forum (do a forum search), Google (do a Google search), the API's (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/), and the Java Tutorials(http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/)
_7) Post code and errors with your question_
The answer to your problem is in the error messages and the code. Instead of asking a general question about for loops, post the code that you have written and the error info that you get. When asking a question it is IMPERATIVE that you have tried to do it your own way, because the people on the forum mostly won't do it for you, they'll only point out where you have done it wrong and try to help you fix it. Don't paraphrase your error messages, because there are subtleties in the actual messages that you may unknowingly edit out.
    _8) Don't Multi-post_
It is rude to post the same question multiple times or in multiple places in the this forum. This is for the same reason as #2, it makes it seem that you think your problem is more urgent or important than others' problems.
    _9) Don't resurrect dead threads_
If a thread is 3 years old, nobody is going to remember it, so make a new thread to ask your question. If you have a question about something in the old thread, reference it through a hyperlink.
    _10) Take it easy_
As long as the people in the forum see that you're legitimately trying to help yourself, they'll help you as much as they see fit. The biggest problem that newbies have is they rely on the forum to spoonfeed them the info, and it's not going to happen. They'll either get flamed or ignored. The people on the forum aren't trying to find "fresh meat to flame", they legitimately want to help you, and they'll typically give you fair warning if you're doing something annoying or unorthodox.

There does seem to be a way to sticky posts, but I think only mods and admins have the power to do it. There's one over on the Generics forum : http://forum.java.sun.com/forum.jspa?forumID=316
I've been trying to add a pseudo-signature to my posts as far as possible, with a link to a page which pretty much covers this stuff, only it's on JavaRanch:
People on the forum help others voluntarily, it's not their job.
    Help them help you.
Learn how to ask questions first: http://faq.javaranch.com/java/HowToAskQuestionsOnJavaRanch
But I've had a couple of occasions where the OPs thought it was directed at them and they got a tad upset :)
And without hyperlinks, I'm not quite sure how many people actually take the pains to go to that page.
Ah well, no one can say I didn't try.

  • Does anyone know if there is a plan to make this forum a better product?

there are quite a few problems with the structure of this forum.
maybe it is time for an update.
    1. doesn't appear to be any attrempt tp consolidate responses of various identical topics
    2. statistics are poor and incorrect (should always indicate lates response, should show latest response first - by default, should clearly indicate number of responses for each item, etc)
    3. many more items - but insufficient time to nanalyze and document
this is not a criticism of the moderators who take the time to help others but it does newed to have a method of getting Apple's attention when there is no solution/approach to a serious product defficiency.
advisng users to use the Apple support link is like getting close to a black hole.

I am sure they are always looking for ways to improve. The current "Apple Support Communities" replaced the former "Apple Discussions" about a year ago, there were a number of changes that came with it, some good, some not so good, IMHO. About a week or two ago they made some other changes, the most visual was getting an email when a post is marked as solving the question or being helpful. Like any change, some people liked it, some didn't. But I am certain they are looking to make this forum a better product.

  • Are the [expletive deleted] at Adobe doing anything to improve this forum?

We were informed some time back by an Adobe representative that frequents this forum that he would look into why we keep having to login each time we revist the forum.
Although we have this 'tick to remember your details' box on the login page it never works. Now I am finding when I login I then get logged out for no reason but still says I'm logged in.
I keep getting an 'internal server error' jump up on my screen.
This forum software is complete [expletive deleted] Either supply your customers with something reliable and user-friendly that actually works of get rid of it completely - bunch of [expletives deleted].

JIve absolutely DOES NOT have access you your AdobeID account. That's why the SSI process is complicated - you sign in on the secure adobe.com server, then your verified session is passed over to Jive's network using a chain of session cookies. All Jive can see is your userID, name and email address (the stuff shown in your forums profile) - not your password, bank info, etc.
    mytaxsite.co.uk wrote:
These forums are managed by Jive and so it must be a security nightmare for them to have access to people's personal data including credit cards and bank info!!!
Adobe made a policy decision that all services will be accessed via AdobeIDs - that goes for websites, SaaS subscriptions and product activations. It's done for perfectly valid reasons - for example if a customer asks a question in the forum about a purchase, Customer Care can immediately pull up the order history as they can search for the forum user's email address (which is unique to an AdobeID, so the forum user must be the same person). Since we switched to AdobeID logins, hundreds of people have been helped this way with activations, lost serials, etc. so it's not going to change back.

  • Does this forum suck for you too?

I don't mean the content. I find these Flash forums very
useful and helpful. It's the performance of the actual forum site
that makes me increasingly want to avoid this place. Click any
thread and it may or may not load, and when it does (often on the
3rd or 4th attempt) it takes between 30 and 90 seconds to load. I
note that many newcomers to this forum post the identical messages
3 or 4 times, probably because the molasses-slow performance makes
them worry their message didn't get posted. Am I the only one this
is happening to? If not, has it gotten gradually worse and worse
for you over the past couple weeks?
It's very frustrating because I enjoy learning and
contributing to the discussions here. I just want to find out if
it's a problem for me alone.
I'm using latest IE and Firefox on a clear, unshared 6MB
broadband connection. No problems with any other forums on the web,
    just this one.

I have noticed that the forum (and only this one for me) has
been increasingly slow in the last day or two. Looks like it is
time for them to do some pruning, heh. And as it seems, something
seems to keep refreshing on this forum bout every 15 secs or so. If
it is not just me, then that might be contributing to the problem.
Anyways, back to hoping for an answer to the question I posted.
And, btw, personally I stay away from using email clients for
just about anything but an intranet, due to a large portion of
viruses dedicated to mail clients....specially Microsoft made
    ones.

  • 2 questions about this forum

Since the forums have been reorganized (yeah, I know its been a while).  I never fail to be confused when I try to use them.
    For instance:
    1) At the top of the list of questions for adobe Bridge general discussion, I see the Heading:
    "Trending Questions"
What on earth is that supposed to mean.  What does "trending" mean in this unusual usage?
    2) How can I get an advanced search dialog for this particular forum? When I click on the `Be sure to search the forum' link it just pops me to a new page apparently 1 layer back from this forum to Bridge with the lamest search dialog I've seen on any forum.
I'd like to search for a particular poster, or a particular date range or etc etc.  How can I do that?

    Curt Y wrote:
Had to do a little research as "trending questions" was a puzzler.  You are looking at the  bridge general discussion page, and I always bring up the Bridge Forum page where trending is not there.  Think it refers to current questions.
Some forums have a "search this forum only" box, but none has been set up here.  You can the user name and have it return posts.  If you know the subject it is still more complete search to use google.
Back on an older thread ... You mention "Bringing up" the bridge forum on a different page than the one with that silly "Trending questions" baloney.
I'm curious how you do that... when I find the forums, ususally from a google search with "Adobe forums" Bridge or insert another adobe product where you see "Bridge" in the string.  That always lands me at the page with "Trending Questions" and with no obvious way to get to the actual forum other than a list near the top of page that includes "Bridge: General Discussion"... ok, clicking that again brings a page with the "Trending questions" non-sense.
At that point the only way I see to get to the actual forum is to click one of the "Trending questions", from that page you can see a link at the top that says: " Adobe Community > Bridge > Bridge General Discussion >   Discussions "
where you can finally get to a usable forum page.
One could, of course, book mark that... but it seems like a very unnecessary and convoluted path to find a usable forum.
I'm guessing there is some other obvious way I'm not seeing?

  • Restrict my question to one person on this forum

How do I create a message and send it to only one person
    on this forum?
    Thanks!

    Yep,
    Same but different
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/22619134#22619134
I tend to use the drop-in on another thread if the person has not reached Level 6 (As it is now).
Otherwise I would tend to use the the Level 6 + Lounge and a more formal "Bat Signal"
Someone dropping in to one of "my threads" is likely to be asking something about Messages or iChat and be "on Topic" in that sense.
(Of course there are days when I could argue that the drop in question does not match the specific on going question in hand  .  But I know I can be fickle).
I know I follow a fairly narrow band of topics, partly based on knowledge and partly on time restraints. I no longer have a job that gives me days off in the week which I used to use here in other communities.
I could understand someone of level 6 or higher who I consider to be more knowledgeable than myself having question that were "off topic" more often than I might and finding it a distraction.
However at the end of the day it is a matter of perception.

  • HOWTO: get your questions answered on this forum

As this is primarily about formatting, I hope I've got everything right :)
Giving your posting a clear layout is helpful to the other participants in this forum, because it makes your contribution easier to read. Here are some tips for increasing the clarity of your question or reply.
    [list=1]
[*]1. PLEASE DO NOT USE ALL CAPITALS. It makes your posting harder to read. Mixed case (at least in English) has the greatest variety of letter shapes and therefore conveys the most information to a reader's eyes. Also, netiquette considers all capitals to be the equivalent of SHOUTING and is thus rude.
[*]2. Pls dont us txt abbrvtns n ur pstng. This also makes things difficult to read. Nobody will think you are less of a "d00d" if you use you instead of u.
[*]3. Please make use of the UBB formatting options. These are like HTML mark-up, but they use square brackets - []- instead of pointy ones - <>. More information can be found at the Forum FAQ http://forums.oracle.com/forums/faq.jsp?uid=1027669490365 (unfortunately, the URL for the actual formatting page is not visible to us, so I can't post it here).
[*]4. Please include all necessary information. This usually means, at minimum, the database version you are using. If you are asking about a piece of your own code that does not work, post the error code and/or message, or at least describe its behaviour. Saying "it doesn't work" doesn't give us much to go on. Posting the code is a good idea, unless it's humongous: use the UBB [ code ][ /code ] format.
[*]5. Please read the documentation before posting. Some people are offended by replies that say RTFM or STFW. You won't invite such replies if you have made reasonable efforts to find out the answer yourself before posting here. This means at least reading the Oracle manual. You should also try using the Forum search engine, although we know it is somewhat unreliable: OTN have promised to make it better soon. There is a lot of information on the web so learning to use a search engine like Google (http://www.google.com) will help you as well.
[*]6. Start a new thread for a fresh topic. Appending a new subject to an existing thread is not a good idea. If it's a long running thread only a handful of people might visit it - as everyone else has got bored - which decreases your chances of getting a reply. Also, it antagonises the people who are following that thread.

    7. Don't post the same question several times. If someone can answer your question, he/she will do, asking twice or more often
    doesn't give better answers.
    8. Do not use terms like "URGENT" or "pl.answer asap".
Noone will answer faster, but many will be bored.
    9. Do not login with a name like NULL NULL.
People answering your question would like to talk to a person,
    not to a brain damage.

  • Does Adobe actually read this forum ??

    Ok,
I have only been in this forum for 2 days (after calling adobe and being forwarded to this forum), but after looking through dozens of posts..... I do not see any posts by a Adobe support engineer or even a Adobe employee?
Does anyone at Adobe read this "support" forum?
since there is no phone support, no email support, and only support venue is this forum.

The previous responses are correct in that there is no guaranteed response to every question from an employee, but Adobe staff and Community Professionals are active in many topics and will respond where appropriate. You can identify the role of a user by the badge under their profile image, and I can see a number of employee responses within the last day across the Acrobat forums. There is no rule that an employee has to post here; some do and some don't but it depends on how busy they are. Adobe does not have dedicated support staff patrolling these forums 24/7 so the people posting here all have "proper jobs" to do, like writing the next version of your software.
Adobe Reader is a special case in that as a free product, direct support is limited. Users of free or evaluation software will be directed to these forums in every case, but if they require 1:1 support they can pay for an incident ticket via the link posted above.
I've checked your account and I can't see a specific question which hasn't been answered to some extent - please post details of your problem if you feel something hasn't been answered.

  • Having bad luck asking questions in this forum...

I wonder if there is a better way or better visibility in this forum? All my questions go unanswered..
Is there a specified format or does it depend on the location?
    Thanks..

    Hi palkin,
    "All my questions go unanswered.."
Wow, you made 4 posts so far. 4 posts in 3 threads (including this one). 2 of those threads got answers. One answer arrived just one hour after questioning - on an early Monday morning! What more do you want/expect?
You know this is a forum of enthusiastic people, ginving answers without any payment? We have to work and do our own stuff too!
