Does Device Central accepts input from Flash Catalyst?

I'm a newby, and thinking of buying CS5. But I first want to know if I can check in Device Central if the SWF's and RIA's from Catalyst function properly on all kinds of phones.
Is that possible??

Flash Catalyst produces content based on Flash Player 10. So only phones that are capable of displaying Flash Player 10 or higher content could run the project in their phone's browser. Currently the Flash Player 10.1 plugin for mobile is in beta. For more information on that visit http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Flash_Player_10.1_for_Android
My Android phone has not been upgraded to FroYo, so I can not test this. Given the nature of mobile development and the current weight of the Flex Framework, I would not recommend this as a solution for anything other than initial proof of concepts.

There's no way to do is with standard Java as far as i know. You'll have to use JNI to use native libraries.

Swf published from Flash Catalyst not playing in Flash Player

Hi All,
I have 2 issues which I'm not sure may be related or not.
- I've created a project in FC but when I publish it to .swf it does not open in Flash Player. It plays in Chrome but Flash Player 10 gives a blank screen.
- I have FC 5.5 and I want to make the project scale according to the browser size. How can I do this? I have checked the Resize option but when it open in Chrome it just cuts out all that is outside the browser screen area.

I can not recall the minimum Flash Player that is required for Flash Catalyst. I suspect that your version of Flash Player is too low. Chrome auto-updates to the latest version, so that is why it works in Chrome.

Did Adobe drop Fireworks support from Flash Catalyst Beta?

Hi all,
I'm a UI designer and am naturally very excited about Thermo / Flast Catalyst. I just rushed to download the beta but was dismayed to see that Flash Catalyst does not properly import Fireworks (CS4) files -- i.e. they were imported as a giant image instead of pages/layers/objects. Was this functionality dropped in just the beta, or is this something that product will lose in production too.
Fireworks has always felt forgotten by the Adobe team (buggy, buggy, buggy) -- I hope this isn't another instance of that happening.

If Adobe finally decides to use part of Fireworks's ".PNG" engine, they shouldn't have to introduce .FXG into the Fireworks product line, since the onus is on Flash Catalyst to port Fireworks, not the other way around.
Using the Fireworks engine, features such as "Pages", or perhaps even Fireworks's "States", would allow for more seamless “.PNG” porting into Catalyst. Also, doing so, would eliminate all those steps one has to take to merely generate states within Catalyst—saving UI designers time by giving them the option to simply make adjustments to the Catalyst timeline. Not only is this faster, but it makes more logical sense!
Ahh...I am beginning to think Adobe’s in over their heads with this one.

Importing a custom component from Flash Catalyst with Assets

I am experimenting with Flash Catalyst to see if it would work well for us to create components for Flash Builder to use. As a test I created a very simple component with a Pie Chart and a button and exported it as a fxpl file. In Flash Builder I created a Flex library project and imported the component to it. When I tried to use the component in a trivial test app it gave me an error, saying 'Could not resolve <graphics:fc_pie> to a component implementation', presumably because it had not put the component files in the right place of the library tree - by default they were put in a folder at the same level as components but with the name of the component, below which it had a components folder and an assets folder. If I move the files in these folders to the corresponding folders under src then it works fine.
The question is, how do I get Flash Builder to do this correctly? I assume I'm missing something obvious but I am a real Flash Builder Novice and this process is about evaluating which tools to use. Sorry if I'm being a numpty. I'm using Flash builder 4.5 and Flash Catalyst CS5.5.
Any help much appreciated.

If you look in the library panel, there should be an entry for your custom component - probably something like CustomComponent1.mxml. Drag this out onto the artboard to create a new instance of the component.
In the case of a custom component, you can't change much on the second instance. If you have something like a text input skin though, you can change the text it is displaying for each instance.
We are working on making this sort of thing easier in the future, so stay tuned

Does Device central support .apk file?

I was tryin to test an aok file "helloworld" to htc desire hd in device central, but an error message says:
".apk is not supported on this device"
I look at the spec of tyhe device emulated and it shows "Android 2.2", so it must be compatible.
Any ideas?

I hope you have these things configured in your system, if not, install it first:
i) Android SDK
ii) AIRforAndroid extension for flash (after installed it will show AIR for Android in the flash)
set your android sdk path to your envrionment variables path, I have configured as C:\android-sdk\platform-tools, there we have the file adb.exe which is the file to install apk files on emulator
Then install your apk using the command:
adb install pathToRuntime/Runtime.apk
Open the emulator and check there the name of your application.

Using a dll function that does not have any inputs from a VI

Hello all, I'm very new to Labview, I have wraped a dll library using the LVlib wizard and now I am trying to use it in a project. I have a function that does not take any inputs or return any thing except that a struct is populated with some status information as part of the call. I am able to draw a StartInterface VI because my void startInterface(const char* configFile, struct status_struct* status) takes the location of a configutation file as an input. But I can not figure out how to connect my Call Library Node to my a function vi that does not have any inputs ( void shutdownInterface(struct status_struct* status)).
Note that the status struct is deffined to be only and out put at the creation of the LVLIB.

I think I am aware of the conotations of inputs and outputs when I created the lvlib I specified the argument struct status_struct* status as only an output instead of the default of input and output.
I do not think that I am doing anything as complex as function callbacks. My immediate goal is to have an executable (I have application builder) with two buttons and two three text fields one text field for the input of the config file, two text-fields for a cstring that is contained in the status struct; one button to start the interface and one button to stop the interface.
This is in all likely hood a case of my self being too dense and missing something fundimental ;-) I just can't figure out how to wire the shut down method after I've configured the call library node. See the attached pictures:

FAQ: How can I make a SWF from Flash Catalyst scalable?

The SWF files that Flash Catalyst publishes are fixed in size. Even if you set the size of the SWF manually when embedding it, the content created in Catalyst will remain the same size. However, with a small amount of work in Flash Builder, you can make your SWF scale to fit the width and height you want.

Because your warranty is only honored in Brazil you will need to take it in there to exchange it. If it is no longer in warranty then I don't know if you can exchange it in another country. You will need to ask about it in the store.

Java programs don't accept input from German Microsoft keyboard on Mac OS X

Hi everyone,
I use Microsoft's Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 with a German layout and the current IntelliType Pro driver on a Mac (OS X 10.5).
When activating the NEK 4000-specific German keyboard layout supplied with IntelliType Pro for Mac, Java programs cannot recognize keyboard inputs anymore. They can again as soon as I switch back to the standard German keyboard layout provided by Apple with OS X 10.5. However, this layout does not match the characters printed on the NEK 4000.
This phenomon is limited to Java programs running on OS X with the IntelliType Pro's specific German keyboard layout activated. It does not occur with native OS X programs. Therefore, the problem could result from Microsoft's IntelliType Pro driver for OS X, Sun's Java Virtual Machine (in OS X), or Apple Mac OS X.
Could a Sun employee please take a look at this issue?
I am more than willing to provide the respective log files if this was needed.

ICal 5.0 does not recognized accepted invitations from Outlook!

After searching for a while, I could not find a solution to my problem.
I sent out meeting invitations to Outlook users from iCal 5.0 (Lion 10.7.1) within my group. We are all using the same Exchange 2010 mail server! When people send their reply, I can see the "accepted" in the e-mail subject, but double-clicking on the ics attachment only works for some people to show the "accepeted" in my iCal event.
Now I tried/did the following: I saved the ics files and open them with a text editor. The ics reply that did not work had an extra line that started with COMMENT. I removed that line, saved the ics file and double clicked on it. Now that invitee shows as well as "accepted" in iCal 5.0. GREAT I thought...
BUT, I got a reply from an external person, who uses Outlook on an Exchange 2007 server. His ics file also showed that COMMENT line. I did the same as above, but this time nothing chnages in iCal ??? I even changed "2007" to "2010" in the ics file, but still no change in the invitee status. Why ???
This is EXTREMELY annoying, since I have meetings every day and want to use iCal to handle them. If I could change the state of the invitee manually, that would be a work-around, but not a solution. How would that work?
Any hints that could help me are highly appreciated. Obviously a compatibility issue !!! No one to blame... just looking for a soultion.

No get this: I received a reply from another Mac user using iCal 4.0.4 showing "event accepeted" in the subject. But my iCal 5.0 will NOT recognize his acceptance. What is going on?

Can anyone tell me that once a program has prompted a user for input (causing the program to pause), is there a way for the user to enter input and hence restart that program. I know that it can be done in JBuilder simply enough. cheers

Hi Joe,
Before you start running (or debugging, profiling, or code-coaching), you need to check a box in the project settings dialog. In the Project Settings dialog, select Runner - Options on the left and then check the "Allow Program Input" check box (at the bottom of the panel).
When you start running (etc), the log window will contain a text field labeled "Input:" where you can enter program input (it's at the bottom of the log window).
