Does iBooks support JAVASCRIPT in ePub2/ePub3?

Hi,
I know that "iBooks" provides limited support of JAVASCRIPT in ePub format files (As per the document "iBookstoreAssetGuide4_8.pdf" page 27,28,etc.).
My question is as follows:
I have created a sample ePub with the following functionality:
By default, Image display shows partial portion of the original image (like thumbnail image) and displays the full and original image after clicking that image.
For the above sample, if first 2 pages contain images that works well in "iBooks" properly (i.e Original image displayed after clicking that thumbnail image) and the rest of the pages (which contains images) displays default image properly but after clicking that default image, it shows only white background without original image.
Is it iBook's Issue or JAVASCRIPT issue? (All images work properly in SAFARI and all other browsers)
Kindly advise how to solve this problem. Also advise if some other method available for the similar functionality.

iBooks isn't a browser. If your code doesn't work, do it differently.

Your system info included ''no script'', is that active and blocking things ?
You could consider temporarily disabling ''no script'' by using
* Firefox button -> Add-ons -> | Extensions| ... [disable]
As a more general note it is worth trying firefox's [[safe mode]] and also using the default theme, and disabling any plugins.

Does iBook support internal links in PDF eBooks?

Hello,
I am creating an eBook in Adobe InDesign. After exporting to the PDF format I create internal hyperlinks in Adobe Acrobat that allow for better usability in the digital format.
When I open the PDF eBook on the iTouch or iPad, these links do not even show up, let alone even work.
Does iBooks even support links in PDF documents?
These links work when opening in Adobe Reader and Adobe's Digital Editions eBook reader.

Does iBooks support .cbr files?

Does anyone know if iBooks for Mavericks supports .cbr (comic) files? I have a bunch of comics I have saved and wanted to know if they were compatible with iBooks.

I am just joinning the Apple world and I don't know much about it yet, but, I believe there may be an app that does what you need, instead of the iBooks app.

Does JEditorPane support JavaScript, CSS, XHTML, HTML?

Can anyone confirm what JEditorPane actually can support? I can't find anything specific in the J6SE release notes and most of the stuff of Google is pretty dated, I have also searched the forums but nothing much on there that is recent. According to one post it supports some CSS and HTML but no JavaScript.
Can anyone confirm this?
What I plan to do is make a lightweight split pane editor for the above but I also want to be able to preview the code in another pane instead of launching a browser. If there still is no support then can anyone suggest an alternative way to get the same results?
Failing that I will just have to try and then fall back to the browser but it would be nice to know before hand. The online docs I read don't cover a lot on compatibility.

the answer is no. the html support in JEditorPane is
very simple to be able to do things like simple help
manuals and such. But you may be able to integrate
the mozilla gecko engine into your application if you
really want this.

Does 9iAS support Javascript DB connection?

Just wondering if there is a way to make an Oracle database connection in Javascript through Apache. Netscape server has equivalent functionality, called LiveWire or Server-Side javascript. Anything like that in 9iAS?

I did check out Apache, and I found it--posting here in case anyone else is interested.
There is a new module in early (1.0) development stage called XANG. It combines XML and Javascript to create a server-side, database-aware scripting environment. Probably too early for my purposes, but those of you with more bravado may wish to download. It should work w/9i AS since it's just another module (note "should").

And my browser (IE 6) cannot go to any java links. They either don't load or they are blank pages. I tried installing java, enabling them on the internet options, and even installed a new browser it is still the same thing!!!

JavaScript is different from Java. Somehow, security has gotten turn on in IE. If you go to tools, internet options, security, then look at Internet (for hotmail anyway), hit the custom level button, you will see that scripting has been disabled.

Does iBooks author and iBooks support thai fonts?

I ,live in Thailand,want to create books by using iBook author but from what i've know iBook only support one font for THAI language, is it true or not.
Also does iBooks author support modifed thai font from the internet?

The iPad only has one Thai font, Thonburi, and you cannot embed other fonts using iBook Author. Here is some info about using other apps

I downloaded Firefox 4 which my iBook G4 does not support. How can I revert to the earlier version of Firefox?

A box showed up that said "this architecture does not support Firefox 4." Firefox was no longer available on my laptop. Leopard is my OS. (Highest it will go)

If you were using 3.5 or earlier, finding it is a bit trickier.

What wireless security does my iBook support?

I have a D-Link 624 wireless router, with upgraded firmware and running plain 802.11 B/G (no turbo). No problem connecting with WPA2 Personal using my Macbook or my son's Macbook Pro (though both have frequent loss of internet connectivity, which may be a problem others have reported with recent versions of OS X).
However we have not been able to get a wireless connection using PowerPC laptops -- a 2005 PowerBook 12", and a 2001 white iBook 700 MHz.
All these Macs are running OS X 10.4.10.
The PowerBook came with an Airport card that supports 802.11g, and ought to support WPA2. It sees the correct security type and lets me enter the password. If I enter a wrong password that is reported. If I enter the right password I get that less than helpful message that there was an error connecting. Retries do not help. It works fine with other wireless networks.
The iBook supports only the older 802.11b, as far as I know. When I select the home network (which at the moment is broadcasting its SSID), it comes up asking for a WEP password. I can select WPA2 and enter a password, but if I do I get a message that suggests that the router does not support that kind of security.
I really do not want to downgrade my wireless security to WEP. The latest exploits apparently allow breaking it in a minute or so. I'm pretty sure that I remember getting a friend's PC to work with WPA (not WPA2) using 802.11b, though it required both new drivers and an OS patch.
Is there any hope of getting the old iBook to connect using any version of WPA? Any hints on tricks to make the much newer PowerBook work?

Try downgrading to 10.4.8 or 10.4.9 or earlier version of Tiger. Airport connectivity problems have been often reported problem with 10.4.10.
How to Perform an Archive and Install
1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

Does Preview support PDF JavaScript?

Due to a PDF vulnerability, various security experts are suggesting turning off JavaScript in Adobe Reader. I don't see any way to do this in Preview. Does this mean that Preview does not support PDF JavaScript?

With the PCI-card you should be able to run it, but your motherboard ports would not have the possibility. What device has a problem? And, what is the name of the card?
There is a big chance you get the information from Windows, which would mean it is Windows that has a problem.

I'm not seeing any evidence that device-width is a supported value for the width property, so it is likely that that is the cause of the error message.

Strange IE ExternalInterface Bug: "Object does not support this property or method"

We have an application on a relatively slow server (I mention
the speed because it may be relevant).
The app is flash 8 and uses ExternalInterface to call a
javascript function in its parent page. It also used the
ExternalInterface to receive a call from another function. These
calls happens separately (the outbound one calls up a list view of
items, clicking on an item calls up the details in the flash
movie). In between the calls, the flash movie is hidden by moving
it off screen using absolute positioning.
On my local development box (Windows XPSP2) this works fine
in both directions.
On our production server (LAMP) this works fine in both
directions in Firefox 1.5 and 2.0
BUT while the outbound call from Flash to the page works fine
in Internet Explorer 6 or 7, the call back from the page to the
flash movie fails with the error messgage "Object does not support
this method or property"
We've tried not hiding the flash so it is always present on
the page and still the browser > flash communication breaks in
ie.
We've tried using both the Adobe active content script and
swfobject to embed the flash in the page with no difference in the
resultset. In truth we've given up and gone to a two-page solution,
reloading the flash from the start each time but I wondered if
anyone had encountered a similar issue? Can't see why it would work
perfectly in FF but not in IE.

Not sure if this is your problem, but you do reference the
Flash object
differently, depending on the browser. In a video player we
made, that uses
JS to communicate back to Flash, I use a function like this
to modify the
variable depending on the browser:

It worked one second, I saved and closed the file, then tried to reopen and now it won't work. I am using Adobe InDesign CS5. It is the only version on my comp. First check the version of the document with Jongware's script "Identify.jsx" (ExtendScript/JavaScript).

If it is CS 5.5 or above, you need someone to open it in the version the script says and export an IDML representation from that. Another way would be to install a 30days version of CS6 or above (CC) and do it yourself.
In regards of the script showing a result for InDesign files higher than CS6:
CS7 = CC v9
CS8 = CC v10 = CC-2014 or CC2014.1
