Does Illustrator do a good job of converting PDF text to text entities in DWG?

My company receives a lot of drawings in PDF format. They look great, but when we're asked to modify these drawings, they have to be redrawn in CAD. This is very time-consuming and costly. I would like to use Illustrator to convert these PDFs to DWG format. I've found products that will convert the linework and other content of the drawing; however, none that I've found can convert the text in the PDF to text entities in the DWG.
I would install the free trial version if Adobe Illustrator, but I can't. My company is currently using Windows XP operating system. Illustrator requires Windows 7 or 8.

I don't think you'd be happy with any conversion of text between Illustrator and DWG. Text handling differs greatly in the respective editing environments. I may have missed something, but I've never seen usable text going in either direction, either to or from DWG.

  • ExportPDF does a poor job when converting pdf tables to MS Excel tables - Any advice?

ExportPDF does a poor job when converting pdf tables to MS Excel tables.
The resulting file had several lines merged into one and had strange font sizes and line heights and widths.
If needed, I can send both files to show what happened.
I am using Adobe Reader 10.1.4, with Adobe ExportPDF (unknown version, bought Oct 4, 2012), MS Excel for Mac 2011, version 12.2.2 (120421) on a MacBook Air with Mac OS X version 10.7.4.

  • Why does all alphabets change to capital when converting pdf to word using Adobe Acrobat XI

Why does all alphabets change to capital when converting pdf to word using Adobe Acrobat XI

Word 2013 uses its own pdf creator engine as far as I know. The step I performed were:
1 - In the save settings I told word to embed fonts (sorry for the language, I have the Italian client)
2 - Export from Word -> Save As -> .pdf adding also the table of contents/index
N.B. I cannot use PDF/A, and in any case it doesn't embed the font
A working solution is to use Acrobat XI to convert it or print with Adobe PDF printer, results:
    The problems are 2:
1 - It doesn't create any bookmark and doesn't create links from the table of images to the linked images
2 - Images, also with the preset "High Quality Printing" customized using "No compression", are really ugly and if you zoom a bit more than 100% they totally be s**t. It wasn't that way with PDF created by word.
In the end, or I find they way to open the pdf created by word and embedd the missing font, or I find a way to make Acrobat XI creating bookmarks from the word file.
    Suggestion?

  • Does Dreamweaver do a good job of  showing broken links?

I running a broken link check and DW says I have 700 broken, and 300 orphan. But I then check and nothing is wrong with most of those pages.
What is the difference orphan/ broken?
Anyway, I'm flustered. Should I try to find a 3rd party software that does this better in a clear interface? thanks.

    Hi Kevin,
Copying content from How to resolve link errors in Dreamweaver CS6. Click the link for more info.
Orphaned files are pages or images that are not in use or linked to from any place within your site. Although having orphaned files isn’t necessarily a problem, to ensure that you don’t have important files that are orphaned, choose Orphaned Files from the Show menu under the Link Checker section of the Results panel.

  • Does DW cs4 do a good job at collapsing xml tags

    hello;
    I use DW8; I have never been able to get it to collapse xml tags; but now I am doing a lot of xml and it is becoming an issue of effecient workflow;
does DWcs4 do a good job managing tag-collapse related authoring; for instance, does DWcs4 have something like "collapse all tags" or "cullapse current tag"?
    thanks,

    David,
    I seem to be struggling to "collapse full tag";
I have tried several scenarios of selecting tags in code view, where an opening tag looks like <blah a="aa" b="bb>:
    - placing my cursor within a tag
    - highlighting a tag's name
    - highlighting all text within a tag
    - highlighting the entire tag
    - highlighting the opening tag all the way to the closing tag
but each time I get a beep from dreamweaver, implying that I am not doing something right ...
I would think that this would be a no-brainer, but ...

  • Convert pdf to word doc-but don't have the export option.

I want to convert a pdf (that I got from an email) into a Word doc so I can edit it the way I want to. However, for some reason now I don't have the 'Export' option in my File drop down list.
Funny thing is, I've converted the document once already and have entirely forgotten how I did it obviously!
I've made so many changes in my first conversion I want to start over.
why don't I have the 'Export' option? Or ... when I do a 'save as' and chose 'word doc' it only does a copy - paste type save - where I can't make any changes. It's like it puts it into a text box or something.
    I have MSWord 2010.

This usually happens when you're dealing with a very poor quality scanned document that doesn't have enough data for the Acrobat OCR engine to actually process.
As for Acrobat 6.0 Pro, I don't believe the Save as Word function was introduced until version 8.0, but it's been a few years and the memory of Acrobat 6 has faded a bit.

  • Does anyone know a good converter from quicktime movies to dvd format?

Does anyone know a good converter from quicktime movies to dvd format?

I'm guessing that your using One Step DVD . This will only work with one movie at a time.
Create a new project and all you should have to do is drag your movies from your movie folder onto your iDVD project. You can add as many movies as you like but obviously you can't exceed the maximum total DVD size.
Encoding can take a long time depending on the original file format, but you should be able to use pretty much any file format you can play with Quicktime.

  • Does illustrator cs4 draw in vector?

Hello I am looking to buy what adobe program I need, I was told adobe illustrator is a vector drawing program. Ok so my question is does that mean it is only capable of converting to vector or does that mean that if i start a new document (ANY TYPE OF DOCUMENT) and create a design will the design be in vector format?
Reason I am asking, I am currently the owner of a small sign, banner and decal business and I am running FlexiSign for my Cutting Machine. For My banners I subcontract the jobs to a bigger outfit who has proper machines to print. They need all designs to be in vector, .pdf format. So instead of having to convert everything all the time I want a program that can make the design and it is already in vector, than if i need to import a raster image I understand that I will than need to convert to vector and that is fine, but for the backround and font and whatever else I put in the design does illustrator draw in vector, like my flexi sign does, because if I create a job in flexi sign and send it to him it is already in vector, I would rather be using a adobe product...........PLEASE HELPPPPP

    Matthew,
Illustrator is primarily a vector drawing program.
That does not mean that everything in a given Illustrator document is all vector artwork. An Illustrator document can contain vector paths, text objects, and raster images. It contains features that perform rasterization on-the-fly in order to apply effects to vector paths.
Nor does something being "vector" necessarily mean it is suitable for vinyl cutting. For example, you can apply gradients and blends to paths, and everything is "vector"; but you would not be able to render it on a vinyl cutter. For an even more basic example, you can apply strokes of any weight (thickness) to a vector path; but that by itself does not make it suitable for cutting--if you sent it to a cutter, you would just get a single cut along the center of the path.
So yes, you can use Illustrator to draw the kinds of paths that you need for your vinyl cutter. Many people do. (Corel Draw is more popuplar among sign shops.) But you need to know what you're doing; which features to use, which to avoid, and how to properly optimize the vector paths for cutting (removing overlaps, merging cross-cuts, outlining strokes, etc.)
You'll most likely need to back-save the properly-prepared artwork to an earlier version. Most vinyl cutting software can import .ai format, but not usually the current version.
Your designer is working against you by building artwork in Photoshop, if that artwork is intended for
cutting. For vinyl cutting, the artwork should be drawn as clean vector paths.
Except for certain "special cases", autotracing raster images should not be used for vinyl cutting. And in those cases, you need to fully understand what you are doing. Give up on the misconceived idea that you can just create any artwork you want, willy-nilly in Photoshop, and then use autotracing to magically "convert" it to vector artwork. That is a myth. Usually, you'll just be substituting one kind of jaggedness for another. (I've seen many sign shops do this, thinking the resulting roughness is "normal", and turn out garbage.)
You say you contract out your "banner" work to an outfit that has a large-format
printer. Yet you say that outfit insists on everything being vector. That is rather contradictory. You need all vector paths for
cutting. But any decent large format
printer can print artwork consisting of vector paths, raster images, or a combination of both.

  • ...recommend good analog /digital converter....

...can anyone who has a lot of experience with analog /digital converters recommend a good unit. It seems that CANOPUS ADVC 300($569) or the ADVC 110($249) or ADS TECHNOLOGIES PYRO A/V ($139)---Who's who? and What's what? are they both high quality? (the ADVC 300 will stabilize and clean up artifacting as the others don't seem to). I will have a video commercial archiving DVD to produce with some of the material on VHS cassettes and some on DVD, so the quality will vary. anyone with experience with this please reply..Thanks

I have a ADVC300 that is used to digitize archived Hi8 material.
The ADVC 300 really does do a good job cleaning up timing errors as well as giving you some control over chroma and saturation when dealing with analog formats. The Picture Controller 300 application that comes with the box gives you the ability to tweek the parameters of the image but, if you have no clue about the technical elements of the video imaging, the manual will be frustratingly spare in explaining the effect the parameters on picture quality.
While not as capable as a full frame TBC, for the money and convenience, it is hard to beat. The other devices you mention are no better than your basic DV camera used to convert analog to digital.
    Good luck.

  • Does Illustrator CS5 support LAB colors

    Hi,
    Newbie question.
Does Illustrator CS5 allow colors to be speficied using their LAB values?  I have CS4 and know that it doesn't.
If CS5 does, and if I have my RBG and/or CMYK "Working Spaces" set up correctly in "Color  Settings", can I expect the LAB values to be converted correctly when I output my illustration to screen or page?
Also, out of curiousity - are there any other major software programs commonly used by designers,  photographers and graphic artists that don't allow you to enter colors  by their LAB values? Any that don't allow you to edit your "Color  Settings" or RBG and CMYK "Working Spaces"?

Illustrator allows lab values, you have to define this as a spot color first.
You can specify spot colors in lab, but you cannot make seperations in LAB, as they will be spot.

  • Why does Illustrator open this file incorrect (coloured polygon becomes uncoloured)

I have an eps file that opens incorrect in Illustrator (CS6, CS4, 10 I tested). I wonder why this happens. The path seems to be complex, but Photoshop and Distiller converts/opens this file correct. So this seems to be a bug in Illustrator. I ca send you the file.
    How can this be solved?
    Patrick.

Please explain me where I can put my file? Can I email it to you? Can I upload this to this forum?
