Does IMessage turn off when someone turns their phone off?
If you both have IMessage and they turn their phone off will it automatically revert them back to text message instead or should their Imesssage icon still be available?
Even if you select Shutdown and then close the lid before it is able to it will go into sleep mode. This is normal and has been consistent for quite a long time. Even though it is in the process of shutting down the system is still running while it happens so will respond to certian actions until it actually does… like asking it to sleep (by closing the lid). All you need to do is wait a few seconds for it to shutdown before closing the lid.

you remember Betamax vs VHS? that fight wasn't "best vs. better", but sheer marketing power… h264 is an excellent codec/compressor, we Euroepans have choosen for HiDefTV (in the future), but little supported in the PC world... because we "Maccies" have invented it...
or, mentioning PCs:
.wmv/Windows Media Video (besides... isn't Video a media??) comes in ... how many? ... 5? 9? 11? flavors... and for sure: not compatible within!
the good point: Mac supports most-used codecs; and you can encode in the most-used codecs…
last word: quality - never forget: video compression isn't techniqué, it's an art!

My iPhone 4s keeps randomly shutting down. It usually does this after it's been sitting in sleep mode for a few minutes. Pressing the home button or attempting a hard reset does not turn the phone back on. It seems to turn on on it's own. It has done this since I got it and seems to be doing it more frequently. I've only had the phone for about 2 months.

Have the developers considered randomizing the numbers for the passcode? It is easy to watch the pattern when someone enters their passcode. However, if the numbers appeared is a random order each time, it would enhance the security feature even more. Personally, I would prefer this option with security in mind.
He slightly beat you Meg, and I'm in the same boat with you. If I used a passcode I believe I would go with the feature to use a longer alphanumeric passcode rather than a 4 digit number even with the random code entry.
And of course if Apple did put this feature in they need to make it an option or we'll see lots of posts wanting to know how to get rid of it. -

I have an iPad 2, but have never yet been able to send a iMessage....does this only work when writing to people who also have i05, or can you also write to people who use other systems ?
iMessages is turned on on my system, but even when writing to people who I know have iPads or iPhones , I just get the red exclamation mark....
Sending messages on my iPhone seems to work okay when sending to non iPhone users, so I don't understand what's wrong here .From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3529 :

someone please helpIt sounds to me as if the contact picture is of a low resolution and when the iPhone tries to fit it to the screen, it pixilates. You can always go in and remove the picture from the contact if you wanted to. If they are friends of yours on Facebook, you could also go into their photos and copy a picture and that would put it in your camera roll and you could select that picture yourself. I must not be too aware of Facebook pictures being used as contact photos because none of my friends pictures are showing up like that. However, I have seen a couple of my Linkedin contacts doing that, but they are not pixilated like you describe.

Does ATT icon change when not on their home network?
Since the ATT contract only allows a limited amount of off network phone use, does anyone now how to tell if I'm out of their network?
Right now, I'm in Vermont which according to AT&T's coverage maps isn't part of their home network, but my iPhone is showing AT&T with five bars.
Does the icon change to a roaming icon or to an extended network icon if you aren't in an AT&T home network?

Well, as long as you can call, you're either on their network or you're on one that has a roaming agreement. Cingular/AT&T has wide coverage, so I'm not sure where you'd find it. I'll be going to Europe soon (and I am going to get tons of questions from the locals I'm sure)--when I had other phones that always showed T-Mobile, when I got there it would show Orange, T-Mobile, Vodaphone, whatever. It was cool.

Does imessage use data when not in a wifi conection?
how does imessage send a message? does it use the phone signal and send like a normal text message, or does it use the #g network and wifi conection? if it uses the 3g network how much data does it use?
It uses your data/wifi
Your phone knows when to switch from imessage to sms message because it knows when your texting whether or not the recipient has iOS5 or not if it does the bubbles will be blue(Data/WIFI) if is a regular text it will be green(TXT) hope this helps -
ICal does not update status when someone accepts my invitation
If I send a meeting request out from iCal, and someone accepts, their status in iCal does not change, i.e. in the event, the icon against their name remains as a grey question mark and does not change to a green tick. This is annoying because of course the whole point is to see who is or is not coming to your meeting!
Why is this please, and is there a fix?
(I have found references to this issue on here but they are from several years back. Just wondering if there has been a fix since then that I'm missing. Thanks.)As if by magic it is now working. I went away from the mac for a couple of hours, came back and it started to work. This is scary as I would expect this kind of action on a Mickysoft machine but not a Mac. Ho Hum - at least the problem has been sorted even if I don't know how.

Both my wife and I have IPhones (5C and 4S). For some reason for the last several months when someone calls one of our phones it rings on both phones. It seems to have started with the OS updates but that may be a coincidence. Is there a way to stop this?

Correct, I wouldn't lead you astray with a false response. It happens because you and your wife are using the same Apple id for facetime - which you shouldn't do, either you or her will need a separate id for facetime.

All my friends who have iPhone 4's that are white can see when the recipient has viewed their message but everyone I know who has a black one cannot. Does anyone know why or how I can make mine tell me when they have read it too?
In addition to the "Send Read Receipts" setting, make sure that your phone has the latest iOS update. It's possible that what you are seeing is the new iMessage vs regular SMS texting. Are her messages in a different color "bubble" than regular texts?
iMessage became available with iOS 5 in October 2011. If you have not upgraded to that version yet then your iPhone can't use that technology yet.
Also, note that iMessage only works with other iPhone (or iOS 5) users for which you have good contact information entered. Here is some more info on iMessage:

I guess it's their facebook picture (if they have facebook). It's not only on one contact. It happens on every contact that calls me. Help!!

IPad Air does not appear online when using "Find my Phone"
Curious why my iPad Air appears "offline" in the Find my Phone app when it is in sleep mode. All of my other devices (iPhone 5 & iPhone 4) both appear online (and on the map) even though they are sleeping.
