Does Index in Oracle Text lock local files?

Hi, I am planing to implement content search using file datastore. Let me explain how the whole search going to work, Users are going to upload the file, I am going to store the information about the file like filename, size, keywords, file path etc in Oracle table and I am going to store the original file in a different server. When indexing on filepath, does index lock local files on the Operating system? Does it affect the live data? Please I need answers to this ASAP. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Meena

Hi,
there are differences between the Engine of Text indexing, in 10G it was Verity, in 11G (from version 11.1.0.7) it is the Stellent technology, but I do not hope this is it.
Maybe you could make a dump of the creation of the indexes in both 10g and 11g. This can be done through:
select ctxsys.ctx_report.create_index_script('KSK_FILE_TABLE_CTX1') from dual;
This wil give you a create script with all the parameters. Maybe there is a different in your default settings for text indexes, possible the FILTER.

    Oracle Text, data load by partitation, async refresh index.
    Hi Gurus,
    Here I got a question,
    Serniro:
    A table with 2 partitions, text index created.
    When I load data into 1st partition, performance good.
    Sync partion text index, performance good.
    Then I load data into 2nd partition, it's so slow.
    My question is,
    How to disable/offline 2nd partition text index?
    Sync it after I loaded 2nd partition data.

    How many occurrences of XYZ are there per XML document ?
    If there are more than one, then obviously you cannot create such an index on it.
    In this case, you'll need an XMLIndex, unstructured or structured, depending on the type of queries you want to run.
    If there's only one occurrence, could you post a sample document and your db version?
    Thanks.

  • Structure of Indexes in oracle Text

    Hi,
    I like to know which Indextyp ist using Oracle Text.
    Is it B-Tree Indexes? Or which structure does oracle use to index the dokuments?
    I know there are some differences between ctxcat and context.
    Can anyone help?
    regars,
    Arsineh

    context is an inverted index structure. ctxcat is based on a b-tree.

  • Stop Dreamweaver from Locking Local Files?

    Using Dreamweaver's check-in/check-out system, Dreamweaver
    automatically locks a local file when it's checked in, i.e., the
    local copy of the file is set to read-only. Does anyone know of a
    way to disable this? I would like for Dreamweaver not to lock the
    local files when I check them in to the remote (server) site.
    Thanks,
    Ted

    Ted - that's the wrong setup for checkin/checkout to work
    anyhow.
    You cannot share a local site. Each person must have their
    own local site,
    and share a staging server location. Checkin/checkout would
    then provide
    some measure of security if that is the case.
    Set up two site definitions:
    1. Local site is local, remote site is staging server.
    Everyone uses this
    site to work on their piece of the action. Nobody can check
    out a file that
    someone else already has checked out.
    2. Local site is staging server, remote site is production
    server. Only
    the project leader uses this site, and they only use it to
    PUSH files to the
    production server.
    Make sense?

  • How to copy Report(including text symbols and Selection text) in Local file

    Hi,
    I have developed a Report in my testing system (Company dummy system) which contains lot selection text and Text symbols.
    Is there any program that will copy that prohram along with all selection text and text symbold and save it on the floder and form the same program or different program i can upload program??
    for example SAP has standard program <b>RSTXSCRP</b> from which i can export and import SAP Script to and from local file or system.
    Please let me know at the earliest.
    Regards,
    Prasanna

    HI,
    For scripts only that option is avaible in SAP.
    For reports u can copy that report to another name otherwise release the request no and transport to one system to another system.
    Final option is u have to save to one local file (green color icon) after that in which system, u want to upload the report  means u have to create new report and upload it including selection-text itself.
    Thanks,

  • Does a simple Oracle Procedure to Flat File or a SQL database Exist ?

    Hi
    I looked around online for a while and it seemed to me that's there's no real simple solution to have a procedure sitting in oracle to produce an output into a sql table or a file.
    the code executes correctly in a SQL task but unfortunately when I use an OLE DB Source in a Data Flow task it throws out an error.
    there's no definitive answer online - would anyone know if there's a solution for this that wouldn't involve looping through a cursor and inserting records one by one to a file?
    eddy.a

    Are you using any temp tables inside your SP? If yes, you need to SET FMTONLY OFF before calling the SP or at the start of it.
    The only thing you need to consider is that this will cause the SP to be called twice, once to return and validate columns and another
    time when it is actually called, which may slow down your task a little bit.
    Hope this helps,
    Cheers.

  • Create Oracle Text Index from Java via JDBC

    Hi, I have a question relevant to creation of the Text Index in Oracle Text via Java JDBC.
    In Java I create client application and I connect to remote Oracle server. (there is Oracle
    10g Enterprise Edition 10.2.0.3.0 on Debian Linux OS). In Java I create query:
    CREATE INDEX index_name ON source_tab(text) indextype is ctxsys.context
    parameters('datastore ctxsys.file_datastore filter ctxsys.null_filter');
    and I start it by:
    PreparedStatement stmt = db.prepareStatement(query);
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery();
    There is problem that Text Index is created empty and when I write out error log then:
    DRG-11513: unable to open or write to file "path"
    I have on my computer Oracle XE 10g (Windows XP OS) here this application in Java functions
    without problems. Without problems it´s with that same query in SQLPlus when I connect at
    this remote Oracle server via PuTTY.
    Do you know anybody where could be error? Or at worst case where find I more detailed
    manual about JDBC Oracle mainly possible errors and problems with compatibility?

    Does it work if you don't use "file_datastore"?
    Eg. try the following in sqlplus:
    create table t (text varchar2(2000));
    insert into t values ('hello world');
    create index ti on t(text) indextype is ctxsys.context;
    select * from t where contains (text, 'hello') > 0;
    Then drop the index ti and try the same "create index" through JDBC. Does that work?
    If so, then we have some kind of issue with the file_datastore. I assume you are aware that the file will be read by the SERVER, not from the client?
    So if your database resides on a Linux box, but you are calling from a Java program on a windows PC, the file names in source_tab(text) must be in Linux format, and must refer to files which are available on the Linux server (and readable by the owner of the Oracle database process).
    So /home/me/file.txt might work, but C:\Documents\file.txt will not.

  • Problem with blob column index created using Oracle Text.

    Hi,
    I'm running Oracle Database 10g 10.2.0.1.0 standard edition one, on windows server 2003 R2 x64.
    I have a table with a blob column which contains pdf document.
    Then, I create an index using the following script so that I can do fulltext search using Oracle Text.
    CREATE INDEX DMCS.T_DMCS_FILE_DF_FILE_IDX ON DMCS.T_DMCS_FILE
    (DF_FILE)
    INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT
    PARAMETERS('DATASTORE CTXSYS.DEFAULT_DATASTORE');
    However, the index is not searchable and I check the following tables created by database for my index and found them to be empty as well !!
    DR$T_DMCS_FILE_DF_FILE_IDX$I
    DR$T_DMCS_FILE_DF_FILE_IDX$K
    DR$T_DMCS_FILE_DF_FILE_IDX$N
    DR$T_DMCS_FILE_DF_FILE_IDX$R
    I wonder what's wrong with it.
    My user has been granted the ctx_app role and I have other tables that store plain text which I use Oracle Text are fine. I even output the blob column and save as pdf file and they are fine.
    However the database seems like not indexing my blob column although the index can be created without error.
    Please advise.
    Really appreciate anyone who can help.
    Thank you.

    The situation is I have already loaded a few pdf document into the table's blob column.
    After I create the Oracle text index on this blob column, I find the system generated index tables listed in my earlier posting are empty, except for the 4th table.
    Normally we'll see words inside the table where those are the words indexed by oracle text on my document.
    As a result, no matter how i search for the index using select statement with contains operator, it will not give me any result.
    I feel weird why the blob is not indexed. The content of the blob are actually valid because I tested this by export the content back to pdf and I can still view and search within the pdf.
    Regards,
    Jap.

  • How to compute a global SCORE over a few oracle text indexed tables?

    Dear experts!
    I want to search a website with Oracle Text. The website consists of four tables:
    - site
    - chapter
    - text
    - binaries
    Each table has two or three columns which should be indexed with oracle text. So I have created a MULTI_COLUMN_DATASTORE oracle text index on each table - So I have four indexes on my website.
    When I want to search over the website I have to join my 4 tables (4 contain clauses). So how do I get a global SCORE over these 4 contains clauses?
    The next question is can I change the weight of my text indexes (useful for the search hit list)? For example the highest weight has the site index, the second highest weight the chapter index and so on?
    Thanks
    Markus

    If it's a simple JOIN, then you could just add the scores for each CONTAINS clause
    select score(1)+score(2)+score(3)+score(4)
    from table1 t1,table2 t2, table3 t3,table4 t4
    where [join conditions]
    and contains(t1.col, 'xxx', 1) > 0 or
    contains(t2, col, 'xxx', 2) > 0 or
    ... etc
    then to change the weight you just add a multiplying factor.
    Can't help thinking it's probably more complex than this, though.

  • Oracle.exe keeps locking a file after connection has been closed.

    Hi,
    I've written a windows service in .net that monitors a directory for new uploaded files that need to be synchronized with the database. When it detects a new file it moves the file to a another directory from which oracle can reach the file. When the file is moved. I open a connection with the database that performs a select * ... on the external table which reads the file. This all works like a charm and afterwards i dispose of the connection.
    Then i try to move the file again to another directory because it has been processed, but then i got an System.IO.IOException because the file is locked by a process. When i check by which process it is oracle.exe and the lock stays untill i terminate my service. When i debug the service i double checked and the connection state is closed before i try to move it again. For some reason oracle.exe locks the file untill i kill the service that opened the connection.
    If i need to give more specific information please ask, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Pieter

    Do you see the same behavior is you select * from sqlplus instead of the odp app, but don't disconnect the sqlplus session?
    ODP has pooling on by default, so even though you close and dispose the connection, the underlying hard connection stays open.
    I dont know if there's a way to unlock the file without disconnecting which may be the ideal solution, but if not you could probably just disable connection pooling (set pooling=false in the connect string) to get around it.
    Hope it helps,
    Greg
