Does Java 7 run on only x64 bit MAC OS X?

I want to deliver self-contained application packages on Windows, Linux and Mac so I have build my JavaFX application on all three platforms. I will allow my users to download these native bundles from my application's download web page but I have a confusion regarding MAC users because For Linux and Windows, JDK/JRE 7 comes in two download options
1. for x86
2. for x64.
but for MAC we have only option for x64.
Java Download Page shows Java/Jre is not available for 32 bit MAC OSX to run JavaFX application. Does it mean JavaFX will run on only x64 bit MAC OSX?
If it is so, then my issue has been solved, as I have already bundled my Javafx application as a "Self-Contained Application Packages" after run custom build.xml script on x64 MAC OSX but if it is not so, the user can also run JavaFX application on x86 MAC OSX but in that case my "Self-Contained Application Packages" for mac would not run on x86 MAC OSX.
So I am planning to give an additional zip file that either contains app (without copy of jre) or a plain self executable jar. But I'm bit worried regrading - what exactly I need to bundle into that zip file with self executable JAR so requirements must be met to be able to run my JavaFX application in following conditions?
conditions are : -
1. If user has x86 MAC OSX.
2. If java is already installed on user's system. And he would not like to download the "Self-Contained Application Packages" from our download page.
3. Big download size.
So what among the following two options suits if user have x86 MAC OSX or if he has already installed java on his system or he would not like to download "Self-Contained Application Packages" from download page due to big download size?
Option are -
1. APP ( without inbuilt copy of JRE)
2. Or only a self executable jar.
I am not sure that Mac OS X 10.7.3 (Lion) or later version can run on x86 system. So in case of #1 option the user may have trouble if he is using x86 system. Then he may need to change info plist file and replace the JavaAplicationStub.
In case of #2 option I think is better as the user need to download the JRE only and the JAR should run using "java -jar" command.
Please suggest which option is better in case if JavaFX application can run on x86 bit MAC OS X?

JavaFX will run on only x64 bit MAC OSX?Yes. There is no 32 bit JavaFX 2.x+ build for OS X.

I am thinking of buying an Officejet x64. I am running Windows 7 'x64 bit'. In the specifications it is stated that the maximum sheet size is 44" (1.01 metres) with Apple Computers, but only 19x13 " with Windows; why is there this difference, and can it be overcome in ANY way please?

I know that the program is old, however it was expensive to buy and I am really familiar with how it works, so that's why I would like to be able to do the cross over.
I don't work for Adobe but I can respond to a couple of your questions with certainty:
There is no upgrade (or crossgrade) path from Photoshop 7 Win to Photoshop 7 for Mac. That window closed many years ago.
Photoshop 7.0 will not run on modern Intel-based Macs. It was written for old PowerPC based Macs and the code will not run on Intel chips without Rosetta which is no longer available in current OS X operating systems.

  • Can OS X Lion Run Windows 7 x64 Bit?

    Hi Guys,
"Can OS X Lion Run Windows 7 x64 Bit?"
    -  I can see nothing in the bootcamp section that states it must be x32 bit?
    ... Soooo Yea...
    - Dave.

Apple told me to NOT download the Boot Camp driver for Windows using the Boot Camp Assistant application in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.  I was told to download Boot Camp Software Update 3.1 for Windows 64-bit from the Apple website or use the ones that were included on the Mac OS X 10.6 disc providing they were at least version 3.1 and install those.  Then I was told to run Apple Software Update to see if there were new Boot Camp drivers available and if there were to download and install them and to then run Apple Software Update to see if there was another version after that and if the was to install that one if not then I had the latest version.  I take it that the latest version is 3.2 which was released 18 November 2010 since it didn't tell me about a newer version.

  • How Do You Make OS X Run Strictly Only 64-bit?

Hi. I've set OS X to run on 64-bit on boot (editing the plist. Apple should have a control panel for 32 and 64-bit mode. I hope Lion will have those) but how is it running a 32-bit of Flash on Safari? I thought on this mode it strictly runs only 64-bit programs? So if you're using 32-bit mode, that's really the same as when you're on 64-bit mode coz' on 32-bit mode it'll still use 64-bit apps when it's available (or 64-bit programs won't run when you're on 32-bit mode?).
Is Safari 5 64-bit by the way? There's a preview of the 64-bit Flash player which might be good to try on a 64-bit OS and Safari. Thank you in advance.
    Gbu.

Do not confuse user mode application programs with the kernel and device drivers. This is NOT Windows, and does NOT have the limitations that Windows has.
The 32-bit Mac OS X kernel can run both 32 and 64 bit applications. Just launch Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor and the "Kind" column will show you that with the 32-bit kernel you are currently running tons of 64-bit programs.
Today, the only reasons for booting a 64-bit kernel are:
o You are a developer writing a 64-bit device driver
o You need to use a special limited edition 64-bit device driver and have no choice
o You have one of the newest Mac Pros or Xserver boxes and have put more than 32GB of RAM in the box
o You would like to blaze a 64-bit trail testing all the beta 64-bit device drivers so the above mentioned developers get some real world field testing.
Otherwise, the 32-bit kernel gives you all the benefits, and none of the hassles.
Apple released a 64-bit capable operating system that by default boots into a 32-bit kernel so that developers had a nice long period of time to develop and test their 64-bit drivers and applications. I suspect that 10.7 may default boot 64-bit kernels on Macs that are 64-bit kernel capable (ie. they have 64-bit CPUs and have 64-bit firmware), but that is only a guess.
And with respect to a 64-bit kernel running 32-bit apps, yea, Apple can do that too, so again you do not need to get new apps just because you are booting a 64-bit kernel.

  • How to run Windows-only applications on Macs?

Is there a way to do this without having to purchase huge software programs (like Parallels, etc.)? I am only wanting to run 1 Windows-only application, not install the entire Windows-theme onto my laptop. Thanks for the help!

    Eric,
there is Windows emulation software called Wine that can run many (but by no means all) Windows programs without needing a Windows installation. It is gratis, but on OS X you need to compile Wine yourself; they do not have precompiled downloadable disk images for OS X. However, a company called CodeWeavers does offer a precompiled version of Wine called CrossOver Mac for OS X, but it costs $59.95. They do have a gratis 14-day trial version, so you could download that to see if your lone Windows application would work well under OS X with it.

  • Need old version and does HiQ run in Classic mode on Mac OS

I'm hoping an NI rep responds to this: I'm a licensed user of HiQ 2.2 for Mac. I switched to Mac OS X, did not reinstall HiQ, and no longer have my original floppies. Is there any way I can get a replacement? Also, can anyone tell me if HiQ will run in Mac OS X's Classic mode?

Thank you, Chris. I just wanted to confirm. It's a shame that NI dropped HiQ. I'm having a heck of a time doing the simplest things with Mathematica ---steep learning curve--- and it can't do some of the things that HiQ could!

There may be a Mac equivalent that you don't know about. What program is it that you want to run? Someone here might know of a Mac program that you can use instead.

  • Java 1.4.2_17 x64 for Netweaver 2004s SR3

    Hi All,
we are implementing Enterprise Portal 7.0 SR3 on a x64 bit Windows platform.  I am trying to obtain the java runtime environment for x64 bit and SAP notes directs me to this site http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/SAPsite/download.html where I should be able to download the x64 bit j2se 1.4.2_17.
This site is dedicated for SAP customers and requires you to register, for which I have, and the registeration process is excruciatingly slow.  Besides, we are having authentication issues for the site and each issue takes 72 hours response time from SUN.  Long story short, we need the J2SE 1.4.2_17 x64 bit for Windows urgently to finish our install.  Does anyone have this executable and is willing to share it?

    Dear
    Yes
You can find the information in SAP note 716604
Note 716604 - Access to Sun J2SE and recommended J2SE options
    "part of the note:"
    Important note:
With 1.4.2_18 we are currently having massive stack overflow problems on Windows x86 (64bit) with our default parameter set. The issue is still under investigation. Additionally we have a performance regression with Java Systemcopy on 1.4.2_18.
Until further notice please don't use 1.4.2_18.
In the meantime SUN has made available 1.4.2_17 for Windows x86 (64bit) and Solaris x86 (64Bit) for download. Please see note 941595.
    Kind regards
    Tom

  • I recently upgraded to Mavericks from Snow Leopard. Does Snow Leopard still exist on my Mac? If so, is it possible to restart under Snow Leopard in order to run PowerPC apps? If not, is there an OS available in 64 bit that supports PowerPC apps? Mav ***.

I recently upgraded to Mavericks from Snow Leopard. Does Snow Leopard still exist on my Mac? If so, is it possible to restart under Snow Leopard in order to run PowerPC apps? If not, is there an OS available in 64 bit that supports PowerPC apps? Mav ***.

The only reason I upgraded to Mavericks was because my Snow Leopard OS was 32 bit, which I was told would support only 4GB of RAM.
That wasn't quite right. You can put in as much RAM as your Mac's hardware supports. The division is in the apps themselves. A 32 bit app can't use more than 4 GB or RAM. A 64 bit app can use much more.
For example, as a 32 bit only version, Photoshop CS3 can't use more 4GB of RAM, no matter how much you actually have installed. CS4 or later can use all the RAM you want to throw at it.

  • I can not get any updates and therefor not use Java as it only run updates for Mac 10.7. and later? How do i get the updates to install and use Java?

I can not get ny updates and therefore not use Java, as it only run updates for MAC 10.7. and later. How do i get the updates to install and use JAVA ?

In Snow Leopard you update Java from Software Update (in the Apple menu). You can check your version by opening Terminal and typing
    java -version
(don't get creative and type anything else)
    The latest version is 1.6.0_65.

  • Running Firefox 4.0 on Mac OSX 10.6.6, using ATT mail, when I create a new email I get a browser message saying, "This page requires a plugin that can only run in 32-bit mode," and I have to restart Firefox in 32-bit mode. Is there any way around this?

I am assuming the plugin that the Firefox message is referring to is for attaching a file to the email. I say this because at the bottom of a new email it has a link that says "Attach files more easily" which, when you click it, takes you to a setup process where you download an att updater. I ran that and it did seem to change anything. I am wondering if there is anything I can do to make Firefox handle this page without having to restart in 32-bit mode every time.

That means that you need to run Firefox in 32 bit mode if you want to use that plugin.
    # Close Firefox
    # Open the Applications folder in Finder
    # Right click or control-click the Firefox.app icon
    # Select "Get Info"
    # Select "Open in 32-bit mode"
    # Close the "Firefox Info" window
    # Restart Firefox

  • Install Windows 7 64 bit as only OS on Mac Pro

Ok, I'm hugely disappointed with Snow Leopard development. First you still get stuck with 32 bit kernel since there are no official 64 bit drivers for my printers, scanners, cameras. Second Photoshop CS 3 does not work with it, and no version of Nikon Capture NX works either (apart from it being 32 bit anyway). So my option is to stay with Leopard (with chess as only 64 bit app), or alternatively to go Windows 7 64 bit on my Mac Pro and try to take full advantage of all the hardware I spent thousands of dollars on (since there is 64 bit Photoshop and Capture NX works as well, and there are 64 bit drivers for my peripherals), and the OS can actually use all 32 GB.
So, my question is has anyone successfully installed Windows 7 64 bit as the only OS? Did you have any issues? In particular, are there any issues with DVD ejection, and screen brightness control? Are there official Apple drivers for these devices for Windows 7 64 bit?

You don't get 64-bit software until there is demand, and a need, and the hardware to further that development.
Game developers are finding they can work and compile much more efficiently.
Snow Leopard is a launching point, not a destination. Efficient use of more than 2-4 cores is going to take time.
And Intel is there helping companies and bring out refinements in compilers. Then add 1-2 yrs to actually deploy, plus the time to master those tools, and not everyone will or can.
Adobe built their code on Carbon code foundation - a big mistake - and reached the end of where that takes them. Their CS4 Windows is 64-bit, CS5 for Mac OS will or might be but ground up rework into Cocoa code, however OS X does a lot to help use memory, but if you aren't working with 1-2-3GB files you may not.
Nehalem has a lot more bandwidth, on the fly up clock of cpu. Nvidia GTX 200s also respond dymanic and dramatically to small demands to ram up GPU performance. Even launching a program kicks everything into high gear and you can see that charted with various tools (more easily in W7 than in OS X). And to recover to lower energy and heat as quickly. Going green to cut the costs of running servers and systems.
The Mac Pro 2008 was the first with a full 64-bit Unified EFI (UEFI 2.x). Apple, Intel, Microsoft and other members of EFI Group only officially supported EFI on 64-bit post Vista SP1, which was less than 18 months ago, around the time the 2008 Mac Pro came out. That's pretty good.
Yes, Mac OS uses a PA/E memory addressing.
Microsoft used millions of beta users to help identify bottlenecks in drivers during W7 development. And 100s millions of Vista users along with help of Intel engineers in hardware and software. No reason that won't happen with Snow Leopard eventually.
CUDA and GPGPU / Physix are not new, OpenCL is a new standard and name that may be more open to more types of uses and applications - over time.
OS 9 had trouble with Finder. Funny enough, so has OS X, and now it is suppose to have gotten its own multi-thread makeover - it needed it badly and was/is the source of a lot of problems, lost threads or processes and getting lost. We'll have to see.
I think there is a huge market today for a system built around the Core i7 with 2-4-6 cores and 6-12GB of memory with GTS 250 or above (not the entry level offered last year or the GT120 today).
A lot of people don't want to leave XP which is 32-bit and how old is that? I think they'll like W7, if they invest in new hardware.
Your time frame is not how systems evolve.
What would you do you can't do now? very little is my bet. And when the Mac Pro came out 3 yrs ago, a lot of drivers broke and had to be re-engineered and vendors prefer evolution over revolution. The 2008 Mac Pro early on had a number of hardware issues dealing with power management. Happens every step of the way.
Your Mac will probably still serve your needs, whether in 10.6.9 or 10.7 or Win7 and beyond.
