Does NIO support buffering of via FileChannel

I needed to write some code that went though a file looking for a 2byte marker, when it found the marker it read some additional data from the file, having read the additional data it would either return true together with the offset where the marker was found or it would decide to continue lokking for another 2 byte marker from the location it originally found one , and so on.
Before NIO I tried to do this with a BufferedFileInputStream, but this was no good to me because it didnt give me a filepointer to identify where I was in the file. So I used RandomAccessFile instead which gave me the functionality required.
But I revisited the code and realised that no buffereing was taking place and therefore the search for the marker was expensive if it was not at the front of the file. I decided to rewrite the code using FileChannels.
What I found was that FileChannels offer no buffering and on my first attempt performance was worse then before. I then implemented my own crude buffering by reading a chunk of the file into a Buffer from a filechannel, and searching througfh the buffer for the marker, if I got to the end of the buffer I would then have to write the next chunk into the buffer. but in order to do this I have to increment the position of the buffer and the FileChannel as they are independent, this is quite an expensive operation as I am performing it many times.
Is there a better way of doing this, what i would like is the buffer to be linked to the FileChannel in a way that there is a shared position

Ok, BUFFER_CHUNK_SIZE is fairly arbitary but my read chunks into the buffer I hope to reduce the file IO, if I find a match I need the fc.position()
for my SetSyncLocation() method.
public boolean seek(final File seekFile)
        final FileInputStream     fis = new FileInputStream(seekFile);
        final FileChannel fc = fis.getChannel();
        //Read into Byte Buffer in Chunks
        ByteBuffer  bb = ByteBuffer.allocateDirect(BUFFER_CHUNK_SIZE);
        fc.read(bb,0);
        bb.flip();
        boolean syncFound  = false;
        try
            do
                if(bb.remaining()==SYNC_SIZE)
                    bb.clear();
                    fc.read(bb,fc.position());
                    bb.flip();
                    if(bb.limit()<=SYNC_SIZE)
                        return false;
                if(isSync(bb))
                    try
                        widget = parseFile(bb);
                        syncFound = true;
                    catch (InvalidAudioFrameException ex)
                        // We Ignore because likely to be incorrect sync bits ,
                        // will just continue in loop
                bb.position(bb.position()+1);
                fc.position(fc.position()+1);
            while(!syncFound);
        catch (EOFException ex)
            ex.printStackTrace();
            syncFound = false;
        setSyncLocation(fc.position());
        return true;

  • Does the iPhone 4S support HDMI- OUT via the digital AV adapter?

    Does the 4S support HDMI ->OUT via the digital AV adapter or not?  I read that it does (whether it be mirroring, YouTube video playback, movie playback, etc.) but I'm not having any luck.  I recently tried my AV adapter (that I normally use with my iPad 2) but I get nothing.  When I power cycle the phone after connecting the adapter, I get a error stating that the "accessory is not supported by iPhone".  When I go to play a YouTube video, it shows up on the phone's screen for a second and then disappears.  The LCD TV I am connected to never prompts me for the detection of a new HDMI device being connected" either, do I have no clue what's going on.
    Any ideas? Thought?
    Any help to solving this riddle once and for all would be appreciated.
    Thanks and Happy New Year!!
    Andy
    P.S. - my 4S is running iOS 5.0.1 and is a Verizon 16gb model.

    The model number on the adaptor is A1388. The link is here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC953ZM/A?fnode=MTc0MjU4NjE
    I have the iPhone 4s, running 5.0.1 (9A405)
    I have also experimented with sequence, and I see no particular order needed to make it work. Generally I get it all plugged in and then swipe the iPhone and in a few moments, the screen appears in mirroring mode. Then if I go to Videos I can play my clips with sound, or I can do Keynote presentations, etc.
    So sorry to hear you're having trouble. I imagine you've already double-checked that you're seating it solidly in the dock connector and have a good, working HDMI cable. I am not sure what you mean in your original post about "powering up" the phone. It might also be some Verizon issue, though I don't know what that might be. Is your AV adaptor the Apple branded one?

  • Trying to open a sharepoint library in Windows Explorer via IE 8 results in the error "your client does not support opening this list with windows explorer"

    I am attempting to connect to a Microsoft Sharepoint library, via the "Actions -> Open in Windows Explorer" option from the Sharepoint page.  When I do so, I get the error message "your client does not support opening this list with windows explorer".  In short, I am trying to get the "drag and drop" functionality of a Sharepoint library.
    I am running Windows 7 64-bit and IE8.  The target Sharepoint environment is a MOSS 2007 EE.  My Windows "WebClient" service is running, and I have no problem connecting to this exact library via a Windows XP computer running IE8.

    Verify that the Webclient is started automatically from the Services.msc
    Verify that your Portal is in the Intranet local security zone (You can reach it from Your Internet Explorer Browser Security Tag) if not add it to the list
    restart the WebClient service if it's work good
    If not you have to create a network share to your portal URL directly not your documents library.
    Open Windows Explorer or My Computer from the Windows Start Menu.
    From the Tools menu, click Map Network Drive…. A new Map Network Drive window opens.
    In the Map Network Drive window, choose an available drive letter from the dropdown list located next to the "Drive:" option. Any drives already mapped will have a shared folder name displayed inside the dropdown list, next to the drive letter.
    Type the name of the folder to map wich is in this case your SharePoint Portal URL (Don't include the documents libraries)
    Click the "Reconnect at login" checkbox if this network drive should be mapped permanently. Otherwise, this drive will un-map when the user logs out of this computer.
    If the remote computer that contains the shared folder requires a different username and password to log in, click the "different user name" hyperlink to enter this information.
    Click Finish.
    I am looking for a suite method :)

  • Does the new airport extreme support backing up via time machine to an external hard drive pluged into the usb port

    Does the new airport extreme support backing up via time machine to an external hard drive pluged into the usb port

    Yes, but you might want to note that the port on the AirPort Extreme is only USB 2.0, and that it runs at about half the speed of the USB 2.0 port on a computer, so things are going to be quite SLOW as far as backups are concerned, or anything else for that matter.

  • Does the Iphone 3G support music playback via a bluetooth headset?

    Hi All,
    Does the Iphine 3g support music playback via a bluetooth headset at all, I suspect not...

    It's been on many a user's requested feature list since the first iPhone, and people were disappointed when it didn't show up on the 3G. The adaptor he links to will get the job done.
    I have to admit I've demoed a couple of bluetooth stereo headsets, and the music sounded awful. Perhaps it's improved, but for this reason it's not a feature I've personally wished was included.

    I removed old bootcamp, download lastest driver via Bootcamp assistant. Create new partition for Windows. Reboot and install via DVD external (that DVD get from that MC700). However I got black screen with blinking cursor.
    I don't make sure does MC700 (early 2011) support install Windows via external DVD ?
    Hope some ideas !

    How did you delete old windows
    How did you create the new partition
    Are you using an external DVD drive? This won't work, you need to use the SuperDrive in your Mac

  • Does BO support SSO via VPN?

    Hi, does BO support AD SSO against vintela via VPN? Does user can under a SSO environment through VPN from outside of the office.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Daniel

    Hi Keith,
    BI4 users Kerberos authentication. There is no specific tests performed using vendors VPN to support their platform.
    Without logs or kerberos events logged, I can only presume what is happening:
    - The user logs in the computer with a non-valid DOMAIN\account and then connect to the domain. If he opens the browser in the client computer, is sending the wrong credentials
    - When the client computer connects to InfoView, it is not considered "Intranet zone" and therefore is not sending credentials.
    - Other problems: Kerberos using UDP, etc. Requires to capture network traffic.
    In order to have a realistic test, you should connect a laptop to the network and use a valid domain user, then disconnect from the network and use another network (WIFI for guests or similar) + VPN and test the SSO.
    Regards,
    Julian

  • Leopard does not support reading/writing to SD card via network?

    I have a Pixma MX700. I can read and write to SD cards using the card reader built into this machine ... IF I use Windows XP. Leopard will mount the card and allow me to view it contents but the minute I try to import a file to my iMac, I get error code 1401.
    I've been told by Canon support that the new MP Navigator EX driver for Leopard disables reading from the memory card over a network. They claim Leopard does not support this function and reading the posts from others having the same issue using different multi-function printers, this would appear to be a Leopard issue, not a Canon issue.
    Can anyone confirm this and/or offer a fix?
    Thanks!

    using time warner road runner. when I try to open up safari to home page I get error message that this version does not support the "community toolbar" can't proceed until closing the error message. sick of seeing it

    That toolbar/ct plugin seems to cause problems for all who install it!
    Close Safari, then locate and delete the following files and it should be gone:
    /Library/Application Support/Conduit
    /Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
    /Library/Receipts/ctloader.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg
    /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle
    /Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/Conduit
    where / is the root library on your Hard Disk.
    If you are running Snow Leopard you should also look here:
    Library/launchAgents/com.conduit.loader.agent.plist
    Library/Application support/conduit plugins
    Also, as mentioned by Gilli2000:
    Library/Receipts - If you read it, it has information in it at the bottom referring extensively to "CT" and "community toolbar".
    Maybe it is harmless, but trash those items anyway!
    Note: Safari does not support any third-party toolbars except those supplied as an extension to Safari via the Extension Gallery.

  • I run a studio in Atlanta.  I am doing an upgrade to Protools 11.  Avid does not support Yosemite.  Mavericks is no where to be found on App store.  Had to purchase Mountain Lion.  I am losing money waiting on Apple to "ship" / email me a activation

    I run a studio here in Atlanta.  YEster day morning I called an Apple store to see if I could buy a copy of Mavericks.  They forwarded me to Apple Care.  Apple Care tech and myself could not find Mavericks anywhere on the app store.  Avid does not support Yosemiteam yet, so I had no other choice but to purchase Mountain Lion.  It has been over 24 hours waI ting on Apple to "ship" / email me a code to download from the app store.  I read a lot of horror stories from when they rolled out Mountain Lion in 2012 about it taking 72 hours to receive the codes.  I hope that maybe it doesn't take that l9ng this time because I am losing money by the minute.  Microsoft would have had a code to me in minutes.  This is just crazy.  I have used Apple products for years, but this is very disappointing.  Anyone else ordered Mountain Lion recently?  How long dI'd it take Apple to "ship" you your code via email?  Thanks

    From what I've read on these forums over the past few months, it hasn't gotten any better. An electronic order from any company shouldn't take more than 12 hours for a system to respond to, but people have been waiting up to a week for their redemption code email to arrive. It makes no sense to me why it would take that long.

  • The item Hierarchical Context Menu does not support pre-calculation

    Hello,
    Trying to download pre-calculated web templates via RepAgent, using the Hierarchical Context Menu feature within the template (populated via control query with Hierarchy) the system returned the following message upon file download:
    "The item Hierarchical Context Menu does not support pre-calculation"
    As a result the Hierarchical Context Menu is not displayed on the downloaded html-files. Navigation not possible.
    Could not find any constraints documented in the online help, at this point.
    Question: is there something missing on our setup or is this really out of scope for precalculation with navigation?
    Any other experiences on that or shall we open OSS-message?
    Best regards,
    Markus

    Hi,
    we have the same problem. Does anybody have any hint or workaround? Is there a solution for this in 3.5 or any upcoming version.
    Any input is appreciated.
