Does RMI supports multi threading?

Hi, Does RMI supports Multi threading or not? What is the disadvantage of RMI and why EJB came?
Thanks in advance
By

(a) yes
(b) firewall penetration is its biggest problem
(c) EJB is built over RMI, don't get the wrong idea about that. It's a large topic - search as recommended, especially for the Sun White Papers

  • Analysis for Office support multi thread?

    Does Analysis for Office support multi thread/core? If so, what verison? I tried searching around this site as well as note 1466118 - Hardware & Software requirements for Analysis, edition for MS Office but was unable to find an answer.
    I am on an Intel dual cpu with hyper threading turned on so it essentially looks like 4 cores. When I execute an Analysis View, I rarely see the EXCEL.EXE process go above 25% CPU utilization. I have plenty of RAM and hard drive space.
    64bit Windows 7
    32bit Office 2010
    AAO 1.3.5.2288
    Thanks

    I found the following info at:
    Excel 2010 Performance: Performance and Limit Improvements
    Large Data Sets and 64-bit Excel
    The 64-bit version of Excel 2010 is not constrained to 2 GB of RAM like 32-bit applications. Therefore, 64-bit Excel 2010 enables users to create much larger workbooks. 64-bit Windows enables a larger addressable memory capacity, and 64-bit Excel is designed to take advantage of that capacity. For example, users are able to fill more of the grid with data than was possible in previous versions of Excel. As more RAM is added to the computer, Excel uses that additional memory, allows larger and larger workbooks, and scales with the amount of RAM available.
    In addition, because 64-bit Excel enables larger data sets, both 32-bit and 64-bit Excel 2010 introduce improvements to common large data set tasks such as entering and filling down data, sorting, filtering, and copying and pasting data. Memory usage is also optimized to be more efficient, in both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Excel.
    Multi-Core Processing
    Additional investments were made to take advantage of multi-core processors and increase performance for routine tasks. Starting in Excel 2010, the following features use multi-core processors: saving a file, opening a file, refreshing a PivotTable (for external data sources, except OLAP and SharePoint), sorting a cell table, sorting a PivotTable, and auto-sizing a column.
    For operations that involve reading and loading or writing data, such as opening a file, saving a file or refreshing data, splitting the operation into two processes increases performance speed. The first process gets the data, and the second process loads the data into the appropriate structure in memory or writes the data to a file. In this way, as soon as the first process beings reading a portion of data, the second process can immediately start loading or writing that data, while the first process continues to read the next portion of data. Previously, the first process had to finish reading all the data in a certain section before the second process could load that section of the data into memory or write the data to a file.

  • Does LabVIEW support Multi Document Format

    Hi
    I had a doubt that does LabVIEW support Multi Document Format like Microsoft Word, execel etc.
    please reply me with some solution if anyone has

    Yes, I know very well what MDI is, I just don't know what Multi Document Format is
    Programs like word, excel, etc support reading/writing of files in multiple formats (e.g. *.doc, *.rtf, *.txt, etc. for word or *.xls, *.csv, etc. for excel), so the question could be along these lines. I guess we have to wait for the original poster to come back to clarify.

    It was caused by the 2nd threads' classloader.
              The 2nd thread uses the bootstrap classloader by default when attached to jvm, which loads the 'core' java classes only, not even extended classes.
              <p>
              This cause JNDI factory initialization failed.
              <p>
              The solution is to set the 2nd thread's context loader as the system class loader using JNI. See java.lang.Thread#setContextLoader and java.lang.ClassLoader#getSystemClassLoader.

  • Does RMI support the use of UDP?

    Hi, I'm writing a publication and I need a verifiable resource (i.e. a web document written by the people at Sun) that indicates definitively whether RMI is capable of supporting UDP.
    I've been searching the forums and came across some dissonant information concerning this. Here are the posts:
    1.
    RMI is built on top of Java's object and class facilities, its objects serialization protocol and its TCP/IP networking support, so its not possible to run it ontop of UDP.
    2.
    RMI use standard ISO TransfertControlProtocol network layer.TCP is aproximatly the 4th layer and IP the 3.
    3.
    RMI can also use UDP (same layer than TCP)
    The last one disagrees with the previous two.
    Thanks for any references anyone can provide,
    Tim

    just to correct myself. I had a short break and rewinded some years back to remember that NFS uses UDP (in fact sun RPC was developed to support NFS) and that sun RPC allowed both UDP and TCP. sorry about that:)
    Meanwhile, I found out that Berkeley implemented their own version of RMI , one aspect of which is "UDP-RMI".
    check it out at
    http://now.cs.berkeley.edu/Millennium/groups/GRP_SIMS/annual.html
    If you check SUN's RMI implementation code however you may confirm that they don't support UDP.

  • Is PLSQL support multi thread mechanism?

    hi
    i am tring to simulate my problem here. just go thru and bestow a good solution.
    consider, i have table called "table_a" which contains around 10 records. for each record having 100 'levels of status infromation' which stored in another table called "table_b". i want to combine(outer join,) this two table and populated into another table called "table_c". since i am doing a outer join i will get 100 record for eche single record presented in "table_a". so totally table_c will cantain 1000 record after insertion.
    this transformation involving lot of complex calculation for each record present in "table_a", to do this i have a separate procedure it will take a each record from "table_a" , outer join with table_b and will do all the complex calculation then insert into the table_c. so i have to follow the same process for all the 10 record presented in the table_a.
    for inserting the 10 record information (table_a) into table_c , i have to call the same procedure 10 time. consider each call will take 30 minutes to complete. then totally this insertion will table 300 minutes.
    so is there any way to insert these 10 record Parallely using plsql?.
    just for example i have explained with 10 records, here actual number is huge.
    Thanks
    Kalanidhi

    If you can move all the logic into SQL, then it's relatively easy to let Oracle handle the parallelism via parallel DML. That is going to be the most efficient solution.
    If you cannot put the logic into SQL and have to have PL/SQL, you can run multiple sessions in parallel using the DBMS_JOB or DBMS_SCHEDULER package each handling a different subset of the data. But that probably implies writing the code to distribute the work as well as writing code to monitor those other sessions to determine when they're done.
    A third potential option would be to build parallelizable pipelined table functions and letting Oracle do parallel DML with those.

  • Will firefox work with a touch screen? Does it support multi-touch?

    I can't scroll with my finger. It only highlights the words.

    The answer you received is not correct. The answer is YES. MAC's do work with all touch screen monitors once you downliad the free drivers.
    I have a Mac Mini and a Mac book pro both of which are connect to the same Acer Touch Screen Monitor.  I am using it as  write this to you.All you need to do is download the free drivers from www.touch-base.com. The basic touch drivers are free. I also purchase the mac gesture drivers for $109 USD and they work great. You can even activate the on screen keyboard in the mac accessibility settings which allows you to have a touch screen keyboard.

  • How should implement multi-thread in single-threaded Operating system using

    How should implement multi-thread in single-threaded Operating system using java?
    Java supports "Multi-threading".Is there is any way run the multiple threads (Implementing multi threading) using java in a Single-threaded Operating system (That is the operating system does not support for multi-threading).

    Previous questions from OP suggest they are using J2ME, so the question might be possible.
    806437 wrote:
    How should implement multi-thread in single-threaded Operating system using java?
    What is the actual question/problem?
    A java app doesn't do threads or not do threads. It uses classes. The VM does threads.
    So if you have a platform that does not have threads and you want to support the thread class then the VM, not a java app, must provide some pseudo mechanism, such as green threads, to support that.
    If your question is about java code and not the VM then you must build a task engine and insure that the tasks are of short enough duration that it is an effective use for your system.

  • Using multi-thread in RMI

    i know how to do a simple RMI program, but now i want to have a multi-threaded server to support the client. could any one tell me how to do this (using Thread in RMI) ??
    thx.
    Mo

    Well, you kind of answered your own question.
    An RMI server is inherently multi-threaded. This means that each remote request from a client is a separate thread, and can execute simultaneously with requests from other clients. In fact, your biggest problem will probably be to identify the places where access to objects must be synchronized, so that simultaneous requests do not conflict.
    So what is it you have to do that RMI doesn't do?

  • Does OC4J support RMI/IIOP connections ?

    Hi,
    I have only one question :
    Does OC4J support IIOP connections ?
    I'd like to connect as EJB client to OLAPService on Oracle9i server (CORBA object), but I can't.
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks for your timely post Debu.
    I would like to state that I read and followed the guides (same files as those ponted by the links you just provided) and tried this:
    1. Sample J2EE Application using ORMI in OC4J Standalone (this works ok)
    2. Same but now using ORMIS (this also works fine)
    3. Tried same J2EE App using IIOP; took these steps:
    3.1 commented out the rmi.xml security lines,
    3.2 enabled ports in internal-settings.xml,
    3.3 changed the jndi.properties - now using corbaname URL,
    3.4 enabled the IIOP stub generation in the JVM settings at oc4j startup, and finally
    3.5 deployed the EAR using the generateIIOP flag.
    The result: the exception I posted above
    4. Tried with IIOP/SSL, did these steps:
    4.1 configured the keystore settings in both internal-settings.xml and ejb_sec.properties
    4.2 and added <ior-security-config> config elements to orion-ejb-jar.xml.
    The exception here is a little bit different:
    client started...

  • Immutable Objects in multi threaded application - how does it works?

    Hi
    I have this code will work in multithreaded application.
    I know that immutable object is thread safe because its state cannot be changed. And if we have volatile reference, if is changed with e.g.
    MyImmutableObject state = MyImmutableObject.newInstance(oldState, newArgs); i.e. if a thread wants to update the state it must create new immutable object initializing it with the old state and some new state arguments) and this will be visible to all other threads.
    But the question is, if a thread2 starts long operation with the state, in the middle of which thread1 updates the state with new instance, what will happen? Thread2 will use reference to the old object state i.e. it will use inconsistent state? Or thread2 will see the change made by thread1 because the reference to state is volatile, and in this case thread1 can use in the first part of its long operation the old state and in the second part the new state, which is incorrect?
    Therad1:                                                  Thead2:
    State state = cache.get();     //t1
    Result result1 = DoSomethingWithState(state);     //t1
                               State state = cache.get(); //t2
       ->longOperation1(state); //t1
                               Result result2 = DoSomethingWithState(state); //t2
                                   ->longOperation1(state); //t2
       ->longOperation2(state);//t1
    cache.update(result1);    //t1
                                   ->longOperation2(state);//t2
                               cache.update(result2);//t2
    Result DoSomethingWithState(State state) {
       longOperation1(state);
       //Imaging Thread1 finish here and update state, when Thread2 is going to execute next method
       longOperation2(state);
    return result;
    class cache {
    private volatile State state = State.newInstance(null, null);
    cache.update(result) {
       this.state = State.newInstance(result.getState, result.getNewFactors);
    get(){
    return state;
    }

  • JDBC/RMI driver does not support BLOB data type

    WLS 5.1 JDBC/RMI driver does not support BLOB data type. It is said in the Weblogic e-doc.
    I am using DataSource for database connections, meaning JDBC/RMI driver is actually producing
    database connections. I need several columns of BLOB types in my Oracle tables.
    Should I use the "JTS" driver instead in order to have the BLOB types supported ?
    Thanks for help.
    [att1.html]

    The error java.rmi.UnmarshalException seems to indicate you are somehow accessing the data-source over RMI, this seems odd. Are you running TopLink on a client and trying to connect to a WebLogic DataSource on the server?
    Maybe try connecting directly to the DataSource without going through TopLink and see if you encounter the same issue.
    You could also look at the TopLink WebLogic Examples and see how their configuration is different than your own.

  • How does the servlet implement the multi-thread feature?

    There is only one instance of every servlet in one wep application.
    When several clients invoke the doPost() method of the same servlet,the servlet can process their request respectively.
    So there much multi threads of one servelt.
    But the Servlet doesn't implement the Runnable interface of extends the Thread class.
    I wan't to know,how does the servlet/servlet container implement the multi-thread feature?

    Hi johnnylzb
    There is only one servlet instance existing.
    (assuming u have <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>)
    The server creates a thread for every request ..
    and all the threads access the same servlet instance.
    For this its not necessary for the Servlet to extend Thread or Runnable.
    hope this helps
