Does Task Scheduling use a lot of resources?

This is a curiosity question.
Instinctive I would say that task scheduling must use a lot of resources. Every fraction of a second the system must check the Task Schedule.
 Does Task Scheduling use a lot of resources?

No it does not.
Windows uses task scheduling all the time without any impact on performance.
it is hard to find conceptual information on this, but it appears to me task scheduler does not check  if there are possibly tasks that need to be executed each few miliseconds. Instead it sounds more logic taks scheduler waits for an interrupt to get
notified when conditions are met.
Think of it the other way around: mouse and keyboard also do not require much resources, allthough windows continuously needs to know whether a key is pressed or the mouse has moved. that is handled by interrupts. Aside of that, making a lookup (like checking
the current system time) does not use a lot of cpu time (even not miliseconds), given the fact modern cpu's do billions of operations per second (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instructions_per_second)

    Can I install PSE 10-13 Win7-8 without the Organizer (uses a lot of resources)?

    You can't install them separately, but it is easy to place unique shortcuts on the desktop for organizer and for editor.
    In Organizer, go to Edit>Preferences>Auto Analyzer options and uncheck analyzer and people recognition if you don't use them - may improve resource utilization.

  • Does the iPhone use a lot of data?

    I'm planning to get an iPhone from AT&T, and here's how I want it:
    AT&T Family Plan (550 minutes) with 2 lines
    Messaging 1000
    2 GB data package for iPhone
    The second line won't have the messaging or the data plan and will most likely have a basic phone.
    But here's what I'm kind of concerned about: how much data does the iPhone use on average? Will 2 GB be enough?
    Also, as a subtopic, how does the messaging 1000 plan work? Does it mean that I can send 1000 texts/pics and also receive 1000 texts/pics, or is it 500 each? What about for 2 GB data? How does that work?
    This last question may be a stupid question, but will the two lines share the same phone number, or will each get a different number?

    You can use this to estimate your data usage,

  • Does DFS Use A Lot Of Resources?

    Hello,
    I have set up a test environment in which I have a single server with 4gb RAM currently running Active Directory Domain Services with only 2 clients and it runs fine (only using 990MB). I am intending to install SQL Server on it and limit it to 2gb ram.
    As well as these, I would very much like a domain-based DFS Namespace (I am not bothered about file replication) but will all three roles be able to run efficiently with only two clients? I don't want it to be really laggy taking ages to process logon requests
    and SQL queries etc. I would rather have SQL and AD run fine than have a DFS as well and have them really slow.

    Hi,
    The DFSN service typically requires very little CPU and memory to service requests, even from numerous clients.
    However, as the size of the namespace grows, the DFS service uses more memory, so consider using more than the minimum recommended RAM for servers that host large DFS namespaces and for servers that host multiple DFS namespaces.
    For more detailed information, please refer to the article below:

  • Need help on Task Scheduling  using Timer task

    Hi all,
    Does any body know how to schedule a task at any given time using Timertask. Say i want to execute a task at 4:00 AM. but the timer task is executing the task at 4:00 AM and as well as at 4:00 PM also. But i don't want to execute the task at 4:00 PM. So how to specify the start time exactly as 4:00 AM only. How to specify the exact start time for timer task . please refer the following code how i have implemented
    Looking for any kind of help or hints or suggestions.
    Thanks in advance
    Date startTime = getExecutionTime(4,0);
    timer=new java.util.Timer();
    ImportingTask task = new ImportingTask();
    timer.scheduleAtFixedRate(task,startTime,interval);
    private Date getExecutionTime(int hours,int minutes ){
    GregorianCalendar present_Cal = new GregorianCalendar();
    GregorianCalendar result = new GregorianCalendar(
    present_Cal.get(Calendar.YEAR),
    present_Cal.get(Calendar.MONTH),
    present_Cal.get(Calendar.DATE),
    hours,
    minutes );
    return result ;
    class ImportingTask extends TimerTask{
    public void run(){
    executeScheduledJob();
    }

    I also have a similar problem.
    I used timer.scheduledAtFixedRate(MyTimerTask, start date, period). The start date is today 6:00AM and the period is 24 hours. It works fine. My problem is that I would like the user to enter a specific number of minutes or hours before it should start again.
    The current program starts initially at 6:00AM then it stops after 24 hours (which is 6:00AM the next day) and runs again.
    What I would like is that after 24 hours, the user can input, say, 5 mins......thus, the program should run at 6:05AM. Then it should run again at 6:10AM the next day and so forth.
    Can scheduledAtFixedRate handle this? Thanks in advance!

  • ITunes (Coverflow) using A LOT of resources

    So, after installing Leopard and using iTunes v7.5.19, I noticed a much slower computer when doing anything with iTunes open. I typically use Coverflow with no problems. In Activity Monitor, with Coverflow enabled, no music playing, iTunes uses ~75-85mb RAM. Without Coverflow or music playing, uses ~45-55mb RAM. When playing music, that jumps to ~100-110mb w/ Coverflow, and ~80-85 without.
    Automatically update album covers is off.
    Any ideas how to reduce the resource usage? I didn't seem to have this problem before Leopard and/or 7.5 (or, at least, I never had reason to check out the usage stats.)

    upgraded to 7.7 and now not using coverflow much

  • USB wireless utility using a lot of resources

    Hey guys, my browser has been slow lately (firefox) and I decided to check how much memory it was using when I noticed the adapter I use to conect to internet it's taking way more. Im using a Trendnet TEW-644UB to get signal from my router because I dont have the airport card on my computer and only that usb adapter is taking around 23% of cpu. What can I do to fix the problem? Should I just get rid of the adapter? is there any other cheap solution?
    Please look at the picture and tell me if that's normal or bad
    thanks!

    I wanted to add something that I left out.  I was focused on the CPU load thing, yet you mentioned slow browsing speeds as well.  These two things may or may not be related.  As far as slow browsing speeds go, I should have run you through some cursory steps to help isolate the problem.  Before we do that, it is always wise to power cycle all your internet devices first to see if that solves the problem.  So power-cycle all your internet devices.  If you don't know how, let me know.
    Following a successful power-cycle and you are back online, check your browsing speeds.  Still slow?  From here we should check to be sure that the problem does not lay with your ISP.  We do this by taking your Wi-Fi router out of the equation.  Disconnect your Trendnet USB device, and connect an ethernet cable directly into your modem (not your router).  Now disconnect the power on the modem.  Wait 60 seconds.  Now plug the power back into your modem.  Wait for it to initialize.  Now check your browsing speeds.  Chances are you will not have slow browsing speeds with this configuration.  On the outside chance you do, then we know not to blame your Trendnet USB device rather your ISP.
    The next step would be to introduce your Wi-Fi router into the equation.  So you will disconnect your ethernet connection and reconnect everything the way it was originally.   Power cycle all the devices and check your browsing speeds while you are in close proximity to your router.   If your speed is better, then this may simply be a reception issue with the Wi-Fi.

  • Windows Task Scheduler does not execute .vbs script as exptected while using CScript.exe

    We have a .vbs script that reads a source text file, looks for errors, performs a find/replace and then writes a cleaned version of the file to a destination folder.
    When executing the script by manually double clicking on the .vbs file, the script works flawlessly.  But when executing via Windows Task Scheduler using Cscript.exe, it creates an empty, zero byte, text file.  Task Scheduler is set to run
    "C:\Windows\System32\cscript.exe" with the Add arguments (optional): C:\Scripts\myscript.vbs.
    Does anyone know of a way to make it work using the Windows Task Scheduler?
    Part of the Script:
    Sub CheckFilesIntegrity()
    Dim cleanedfile,strLine,outputStr, tempstr, tmpChar, changeTo, companycode, storestring
    Dim ObjFileSys, objFile,objCleanFile
    charArray = Array("-","?", "/", "\", ":", "*", """", "<", ">", ",", "&", "#", "~", "%", "{",
    "}", "+", "_", ".", "a", "e", "o", "s", "h","i","E", "O","P", "S", "p", "=")
     Set ObjFileSys   = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
     Set objCleanFile = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
     Set objFile = ObjFileSys.OpenTextFile(file.name, ForReading, True)
     textfilename = destinationpath & objfilesys.GetBaseName(file) & ".txt"
     Set cleanedfile = objCleanFile.OpenTextFile(textfilename, ForWriting, True)
     ObjLog.writeline "File containing cleaned up data: " & textfilename
     Do while not objfile.AtEndOfStream
         strLine = objfile.ReadLine()
         tempstr = strLine
         If (Left(UCase(tempStr),8) <> "HPAYMENT") Then
          'fix pay now data entry whre record does not have a company code
          If Mid(tempstr, 18,3) = "000" Then
           companycode = Mid(tempstr,32,3)
           storestring = Left(tempstr,17)
           tempstr =Replace(tempstr,"000",companycode,18,1,1)
           tempstr = storestring & tempstr
           storestring = Left(tempstr,31)
           tempstr= Replace(tempstr,companycode,"000",32,1,1)
           tempstr = storestring & tempstr
          End If
          'remove invalid characters and replace them with zero (filler)
       For Each tmpChar in charArray
        Select Case tmpChar
         Case "-","?", "/", "\", ":", "*", """", "<", ">", ",", "&", "#", "~", "%",
    "{", "}", "+", "_", ".", "a", "e", "o", "s", "h","i","E", "O","P", "S", "p", "="
         changeTo = "0"
         outputStr = replace( tempstr, tmpChar, changeTo,1,-1,1 )
        End Select
        tempstr=outputstr
       Next
      Else
       outputStr = tempstr
      End If
        strLine = outputStr
      cleanedfile.writeline(strLine)
     Loop
     cleanedfile.Close
     Set cleanedfile = Nothing
     Set ObjFileSys = Nothing
     Set objFile = Nothing
     ObjLog.writeline " Completed processing of file: " & textfilename
    End Sub

    So we ended up getting it to work by replicating the double click function.  Meaning that we created a Batch file that calls the .vbs script, then had Windows Task Scheduler run the Batch file.  In that way all necessary permissions were passed
    through from one environment to another, which was failing when we called the .vbs script using CScript.

  • Backup-GPO cmdlet errors in Task Scheduler

    I have scheduled a simple script on my Windows Server 2012 domain controller to backup my group policies (separate from the System State backup). I ran the script manually, and it works as expected. I scheduled the script in Task Scheduler using a service
    acct with domain admin privileges. Due to our domain policy settings, I had to select the "Do not store password" option on the job, otherwise the usual error regarding "no session" is presented. This means I have access to local resources
    only (on the DC).
    I also right-clicked the job and selected "run" and the job executes properly. However, when the job kicked off at the scheduled time on its own, it only ran partially. The date stamped backup folder was created, and it contained a partial "manifest.xml"
    file which is created at every backup. The manifest only has the header in it, no other content such as GPO names and GUIDs.
    In the Powershell transcript output, it generates an error when the Backup-GPO cmdlet runs:
    Backup-Gpo : The system cannot open the device or file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007006E)
    The command is:
    Backup-Gpo -All -Path $backup_dir\$date_stamp
    And yes, I have selected to run the job without the user being logged in. Is it possible to backup domain GPOs without the credentials cached in the job? Are the GPOs considered a "local resource" on the domain controller?

    Anna,
    You are correct, if I disable that policy setting that I do not need to select "Do not store password" and the job runs fine.
    However, the PowerShell script does run with the "Do not store password" option checked, it just normally fails when trying to access the policies to backup with a seemingly random error depending on the domain controller.  Then, after 3 days of failures,
    I checked this morning and it had run fine on two of three domain controllers. No changes to policy or the script or the job. It isn't cut and dried as to why it works or doesn't work.
    I guess what I am ultimately looking for is a better description of what resources are still available using that setting ("Do not store password"); are ADDS related commands considered local resources on domain controllers, or do you always need a cached
    credential?
    Jim

    Scheduling a single day X for a throughput deduplication job on a volume in Server Manager>...>Volume>Configure Deduplication becomes day X-1 (previous day) in Task Scheduler
    Using configure deduplication for a volume in Server Manager, I selected a file age of 0 days (for the initial run), throughput optimization and for the schedule Tuesday at 11:24 pm.
    Going to Task Scheduler>Microsoft>Windows>Deduplication the job is now Scheduled to run Mondays at 11:24pm
    Changing the day to Monday using configure deduplication changes the day in task scheduler to Sunday ... and so on.

    Just for your information, this bug still exists in Server 2012 R2. I just stumbled across it today.
