Does the iPhone 4s need a data plan inorder for "siri" to work or can you just use your local wifi?

It can use both in all the commercials they are using wifi im trying to find out just how much Siri depends on data but so far I think it mainly uses it to pull info up and for some reason to dictate email but it does work on carrier data I guess it's just slower  so you don't neccersarily need a data plan in place or have to dig into it to use Siri If you have wifi close by

  • Does the LG Dare require a data plan?

I have an LG Dare that I would like to use on an existing plan. BUT I dont want to pay for data, so I was wondering since Verizon has changed so much with their plans, does the LG Dare require a data plan in order to use it on my plan? All I use the phone for is calls and unlimited texting, no internet. Why pay for something I will never use?
~ Note: My current phone is the LG EnV 2 (no data required on it)...which died completely on me. Hence why Im wanting to switch to my old phone LG Dare.~
    Thanks!

        @turtlegurl86,
We appreciate you bringing this to the attention of the forum. It is fantastic to see of your proactive nature.
The LG Dare does not require a data package. If you would like to add a data package. The current data option for the device is $10 / 75 MB.
I'm sure you will find this information beneficial. It was a great to hear from you.

  • At what point does the iPhone 5 need to charge?

At what voltage does the iPhone 5 need to charge?

When it gets low, typically at about 10% you get a prompt.  It is a good idea to let it go completely flat once a month

  • Does the Palm Centro require a data plan?

Does the Palm Centro require a data plan? I'm wanting to switch back to my Centro and I just want to make sure, before I purchase a new one, that I will not be required to pay the $29.99 a month like I do now with my Pixi. Can anyone give me a for sure, 100% positive answer on whether or not this is a discontinued phone and does not require the data plan with activation? Thank you so much!

That's exactly what I thought, but I kept finding in small subjects people saying it might require it. I thought, surely, they wouldn't. That just wouldn't be fair. Thank you so much for your answer. I really appreciate it.

    Hi kamfong,
    Went to Settings where?
If you want to use your exisiting Apple ID on your iPad, you need to:
    1.     Go to Settings>iTunes & App Store and sign out the new ID, and then sign on the old one
    2.     Go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and delete the iCloud account, and the sign back onto iCloud using the old ID
You still have not indindated why you are saying that using your old ID originally "didn't work". What do you mean by that? Did you get some sort of error when you tried to sign on with your exisiting Apple ID?
    Cheers,

  • HT4157 if i get an i pad with 3g service capability do i have to use it in order for the i pad to work or can   i just use the wifi part because i don't have the extra money to pay for a data plan

If you do get 3G, you only use cellular when wifi is not available. You pay by the month for a 3/4G plan.

  • Does the new iMac coming in December have a dvd drive? If not can you use the Apple USB SuperDrive?

Does the new iMac coming in December have a dvd drive? If not can you use the Apple USB SuperDrive?

The soon to be released new iMacs don't have a DVD drive. I don't believe that Apple have updated their site to say their USB drive will work, but the expectation is that it will.
I watched the keynote and when Phil Schiller was presenting the new models I think he mentioned something about it working and he had one on the desk next to the iMac.
I'm going to check the keynote if it's still up and I'll update my post if I'm wrong.

  • Does the EnV Touch require a data plan?

I need a new phone, and it has to be similar to the LG Extravert. I just want a new phone for variety, although I could purchase the Extravert again. But, when I look up whether the EnV Touch requires a data plan, there is so much confusion. Even the Verizon Customer Support people give different answers. I am very uncomfortable with the idea of a data plan, because I just want to pay $20/month for unlimited texting-I text very heavily. But I do not want to pay $50-70 per month just to text. I also hope it isn't a smartphone, because I have been searching for a non-smartphone for weeks. So...does it require one or not? If you can recommend a similar phone that meets my needs, please do. I also prefer touch screens and good cameras.

I know cost is important to you doctorcatfish and we want to make sure you have the best plan for your needs. If you purchase  a basic phone (Lg-Env) for full retail cost you can use the plan you currently have. If you upgrade to a basic phone with a discount, you will have to choose one of our shared data plans for basic devices. The Lg-Env-Touch will require a data plan and if this phone is purchased at full retail price, you can use your current plan and add on one of our old data plans because you have an older plan. If you upgrade with a discount for this  device, you will have to pick one of our shared data plans. Here is some information about out plans http://bit.ly/xdDajD . Let us know if you have any further questions.

  • Why does the iPhone 4 need to send an SMS to activate FaceTime when the iPad 2 doesn't?

    Hi there.
I keep wondering why iPhone 4 need to send a international SMS to activate FaceTime when the iPad 2 doesn't?
It cost's 2,50 dkr ($0.48) every time it does that.
I have a mobile subscription where i get 5 hours talk time, Free SMS, Free MMS, Free talk to all with same subscription and 5GB data for 129 dkr/month ($24.77).
But the internation SMS is not free.
And it really bugs me that my danish iPhone has to send an SMS to England to acticate FaceTime that i only can use on WiFi.
I also have a iPad 2 (WiFi model), and it can activate FaceTime fine via WiFi. So why can't the iPhone 4 do that?
I really really need a good explanation to why i have to pay to activate FaceTime.
Why can't you make local numbers to send the SMS too, or do it via WiFi just like the iPad 2.
The strangest this is that you have to be on WiFi to use FaceTime, so why use the mobile network to activate FaceTime?

Where are you, what network are you on and where did you get your phone?
The fact that it uses SMS isn't really the issue here and no-one on this forum can answer the "why" question. We are end users, not Apple. The accepted answer is if it's going to tie facetime to your phone number (which it does) then that's the way it's got to work.
The puzzling part is why it would be sending one to England... unless of course, you purchased the phone in the UK and actually live in another region entirely.

  • Does the Mobile still need mapping data files installed in 1.5.0.8.1?

Customer is moving from MWM 3.0 to 1.5.0.8.1. Currently they are required to install/copy a set of mapping data files to each MW. When they move to 1.5.0.8.1, do they still need to package the files and copy them to each MW? The are using the MapViewer SubSystem. They are using NavTeq maps, the latest version. If they do not need to install/copy the set of data for the maps, then how does the MW MapViewer get the necessary information to view the map? More specifically, at logon, does the server send the maps via the table version check mechanism?

The answer is "No". You don't need to copy map files to each mobile anymore if you plan on
using the new mapviewer functionality that is available in the MWM 1.5.8 product.
The maps are NEVER copied anywhere.
What happens is when the mobile or DW needs a map update it will request a new map image from
the MWM back-end (OAS server). This map will be something more like you would see on products like
    mapquest.
The mobile and DW have a built-in browser that simply shows you an updated map of the area that you are viewing.
Each time the map needs to be updated a request will be sent out to the MWM back-end again and your
map on the built-in brower will be refreshed.
The MWM system uses the MWM database (which has the latest locations of the orders and crews on it)
and the Naveteq spatial database to put together a map image that it sends to your mobile or DW unit.
Think of our map viewer as you would any browser-based map system that you might locate on the internet.
As long as you keep your Navteq database current you should always be "good to go".

  • Does the iphone 6 need a new SIM for Apple Pay?

There appears to be some disagreement on this issue. I activated my AT&T iphone 6 by putting my ip5 sim in the new phone. Everything works normally, but I got a text message from AT&T saying that my phone needed a new sim for all network features to work properly. Some people have been told by AT&T that this has to do with NFC/Apple Pay, that even though Apple Pay is built into the phone itself, it still needs some kind of special secure SIM to authenticate the phone or something. Does anyone have a definitive answer either way? It's not a big deal to just go to an AT&T store and get a new SIM before Apple Pay rolls out, but after experiencing a major activation headache on launch day, I'm reluctant to "fix what ain't broke", so to speak.

I've read nothing that indicates you'll need a new SIM for Apple Pay. However, it seems as if the easiest thing to do is to wait until it rolls out, and see if the SIM you have works. It's not as if being unable to use Apple Pay for a day or two should be a big problem.

can the iphone 5 be remotely activated so it can be found using the find my iphone app. the phone has been offline since it was lost even though it should have had power. if it can be simply turned on by the service provider or by apple the rest i can do using the app

If you didn't enable the Find My iPhone function, then you can't track the iPhone.  But it sounds like you did have it turned on, if you're seeing that it's listed in the Find My iPhone app or on icloud.com.  But are you sure it's the same device?  If you had a previous iPhone, and the name of both iPhones was the same, it would make it difficult to know which phone was which, even if they both were listed.
In any event, an offline device is not trackable.  It could be offline because A) it has no power or B) it is not connected to the internet via cellular data or wi-fi.
Until it comes back online (and it may never), then it cannot be remotely tracked.
