I have used javax.mail package for sending mail options in a web application on Windows.Can I use the same in Solaris ??

It should work by default, but if it isn't, you may want to configure your relay mailer.
Edit the /etc/mail/sendmail.cf and find the lines:
# "Smart" relay host (may be null)
DS
Change to:
# "Smart" relay host (may be null)
DSyourcompanymailserver.company.com

Error during sending mail from solaris 9

I am trying to send mail from solaris machine.I am using sendmail 8.12.9+Sun.When I am trying to send mail a mail using

Newbie question: how to send mails on a Solaris 10 machine?

Good morning all,
I am responsible of a lab, containing some Solaris machines.
On one of those machines, a collegue would like to send mails, using following command:
echo "something" | mailx -v -s "subject" <collegue>@<domain>.comThe mentioned e-mail address is configured on an MS Exchange server.
On first sight this server is not accessible from the lab:
telnet>ping -a <Exchange_Server>.<domain>.com
ping: unknown host <Exchange_Server>.<domain>.comHowever when I try this in a DOS prompt, I get the same result:
DOS prompt>ping -a <Exchange_Server>.<domain>.com
Ping request could not find host <Exchange_Server>.<domain>.com=> How can I determine whether the Exchange server is accessible from the lab?
Even more general: how can I determine whether the machines in the lab are connected to the internet:
telnet>ping www.hotmail.com
no answer from www.hotmail.com(94.245.116.9)
no answer from www.hotmail.com(157.55.0.137)=> if there is no connection to the internet, how can my machine translate URLs into IP addresses?
Can anybody give me a start?

first ask your exchange team to add the Solaris server to exchange relay..then only soalris server can send mails...
once they added..
take the mail server ip/hostname
configure /etc/mail/sendmail.cf
modify DS to
DSmailserver ----if dns server works
else
DS[mailserver] ---lookup through /etc/hosts

I need to send a mail from one SAP box (ECC) to another SAP box (SRM,CRM, EP etc). I know how to send mail from SAP to external address but unable to find the parameters in this case. Kindly help.

Problems that you might encounter :-
If you have set up a node in SCOT and it tests out well but recieve the reply.
"Cannot process message in node, parameterscannot be converted".
Make sure the RFC connection is working, and that SapConnect has been installed on the Unix Server or the Microsoft Exchange Server. Originally, I had the same error, and found that nothing had been installed on Unixor Exchange, to support SapConnect.
In SCOT (View -> System Status), your mail remains at the Intransit column.
Check you sendmail.cf files (e.g.Sun Solaris /etc/mail/sendmail.cf). Try using the sendmail command to send a test file at the Unix level. You must be able to send mail at theUnix level before you can send mail at the SAP level.

Sendmail sending mail to yahoo but not local domain

I havent worked much on sendmail at all, and as I know it its already configured in Solaris 10 and we just have to put in the relevant entries of DNS etc to make it work. Now the problem is when I use the command mailx to send mail, it is sending it to addresses like yahoo and hotmail, but no email is received on the local addresses on local domain. Example:
mailx -v [email protected] ----------------------> works, but
mailx -v [email protected] ------------------> doesn't work (no email is received)

I am considerably new to Solaris.
I have a query,
Is it possible to send mails out without using sendmail service?
If so how can they be implemented in,
Solaris 7?
Solaris 8?
Solaris 9?
If it is not possible, are there any workarounds to achieve this or else this cannot be implemented at all?

Your question is a little ambiguous. However, I will try to answer it.
You need to use a program to send the email for you. On Solaris by default this is sendmail. However, it can be used in a number of modes.
1. It can be run as a daemon, listening on port 25 for new messages to be delivered to it.
This is enabled by default but is not necessary for sending email. If you wish to switch sendmail off as a service in Solaris10 then you should type 'svcadm disable svc:/network/smtp:sendmail'. If you wish to switch it off on earlier Solaris releases you will need to move/erase the startup script in either /etc/rc2.d or /etc/rc3.d.
2. It can be run in 'immediate mode' to send mail immediately.
This allows you to send a mail directly to someone. On a normally configured sendmail instance it will try to deliver the mail immediately - if the server at the other end is unavailable, the mail will be queued locally to be potentially delivered at a later date.
3. It can run in delivery only mode to attempt to send queued mail
Queued mail will not automatically get processed. Sendmail needs to run at a later date to attempt to deliver any queued mail. This can either be done via cron using 'sendmail -q' or sendmail can be left running the whole time and told to rerun the queue in given periods ie 'sendmail -q15m'
There are alternatives to sendmail for delivering mail - postfix, exim, qmail are just three examples. I would advise against trying to deliver mail without using a specific mail agent to do it. Whilst the SMTP mail protocol is pretty simple in basic use cases the protocol does get complex. There is no real downside in using an established program.

you will need to provide some additional info.
What is your DS entry configured to in sendmail.cf this should be your mail bridge. Based on the fact that you can send to yahoo.com it sound like this is working.
For local email need to check your domain entry /etc/resolv.conf. This needs to match your systems domain name. This file may also contain a SEARCH entry which would allow email to check multiple domains.
You can also look at the sendmail log to see what sendmail is doing with the email request. Posting the output from mailx -v would help.
Finally make sure that the sendmail daemon is running if you want your unix machine to receive in bound email.

Dtmail on x86 crashes when sending mail

Hi,
I'm running Solaris 10 on x86 and I'm wondering if there is a fix or a workaround
for dtmail crashing when sending mail. There is an existing bug report for this
filed July 20 2006 (6346618) but I'm unable to view the bug detail since I have
not yet fully decided on a service plan. I've searched around Sunsolve and
google but nothing is coming up. I tried build 45 of Solaris Express and the
same problem is present. Does anyone have any additional information
about this? Is a fix available for serivce plan holders?

Thank you for looking at the bug. I do have 121488-01 installed; patch dated 12/19/2005. If a fix for this is rolled up into another patch, so far it is not available to me. As of this morning, there are no updates; dtmail still crashes on sending mail.
Searching sunsolve for this returns three bug numbers:
6346618 (dated July 20, 2006)
5091421 (dated November 4, 2005)
1187150 (dated November 16, 1995)
although the 1995 bug is probably unrelated. Looks like my best chance at working around this may be to grab the dtmail binary from Solaris 9. Thanks to all who have looked at this with me so far; I appreciate it.

Unable send mails to outside world thru centeral mail host

I have installed IMS 5.1 on solaris 8 . I could able to send mails internal users (in the same server) I could able to receive external mails. But I am unable to send mails to outside world. I have to send mails to corporate mails server. Pls can u help me out . My server Ip is 191.254.4.10 and 191.254.1.28 is corporate mail server.

What error message or messages are you getting when you try to send?
I suspect you need to do things. First change your INTERNAL_IP mapping to allow those IP or networks that you wish to be able to relay through your host. Second you need to use a smart host, i.e. the mail hub you talk about. To do that look at putting the daemon channel keyword on the tcp_local channel.

Sending mail with mail client failure problem

My installation config :

since past few days , I encounter a new problem with SJMS after finish installation . When using mail client Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 , sending mail message to outside email providers / non-local (e.g correctly typed yahoo/gmail) domain always failed whenever I use from outside networks/Internet ( smtp setting in mail client require username and password authentication ) . however,users between the same local domain is OK .
The thunderbird always prompt :
" The mail server responded: Recipient address rejected: User unknown. Please check the message recipients and try again "
The problem does not occured when I was using inside LAN and connected locally with the server host .
but, I am able and succesful to telnet to port 25 using command via outside the network, indicating the port and server not being blocked by firewall :

I would be good to have the full output from the "imsimta version" command. That gives OS information too, which may not be pertinent to this specific problem, but it is better to give all the info than for us to wish we had it.
Also, what is the full, exact error message you get when you try this with telnet to port 25 and it fails? It may be significant to see the exact text because it could be coming from some intermediate device rather than the Messaging Server itself.
If you are getting connected to the Messaging Server's MTA, you should find some indication of this in the mail.log_current file. If not, I would say to make sure the "logging" keyword is on the "defaults" channel and add LOG_CONNECTION=3 LOG_PROCESS=1 LOG_USERNAME=1 to option.dat and do imsimta cnbuild; and imsimta restart dispatcher. Then repeat the test. If you still get nothing in mail.log_current about that test, then I would conclude the connection is not getting to the Messaging Server's MTA but rather the failure is coming from a firewall or some other intermediate device.
If your mail client authenticates to the MTA when trying to send mail from outside your network, this should result in the message submission being switched to the tcp_auth channel instead of tcp_local and that should allow the message to go thru. If the connect is making it to the MTA and being rejected there, it will be interesting to see which channel is involved. The mail.log_current records should show that.

sounds basic, but what's your entry of malhost in /etc/hosts pointing to? If it's not there, add the entry with the IP address of your SMTP host.
when sending test mail from mailx, have another window open thats tail-ing the contents of /var/log/syslog - that usually contains good info about sendmail.
another thing worth checking is the rules on your SMTP gateway. If this is a new host, it may need adding to the list of authorised relay list. Also check to see if the SMTP host is alowed to relay mail outside of its own domain too.

if mailing works on your solaris, then you can dbms_output the lines of the text from the pl/sql procedure and then mail the file through the OS using mailx command. alternatively you can use the oracle tool itself that is the oracle mail.

SAP can be configured to send and receive emails from different sources.This section explains how to integrate SAPOffice with an external emailsystem. Your Internet email must be configured and running prior to this.Email from SAP is forwarded to the users external email system..
You can configure inbound and outbound forwarding. Outbound flow forwardsa SAP message (eg: update termination) via UNIX sendmail to the intended recepient. Inbound accepts a message from sendmail and places it in the users SAPOffice inbox. Many companies prefer to configure outbound only.

Testing whether your configuration is successful

3. Write a message and send it to <your_internet_email_address>
4. If you don't see the mail in your internet mailbox, go back and review steps 1-12
Schedule the SAP Internet Mail Gateway Jobs to start every 5 minutes

Problems that you might encounter :-
If you have set up a node in SCOT and it tests out well but recieve the reply.
"Cannot process message in node, parameterscannot be converted".
Make sure the RFC connection is working, and that SapConnect has been installed on the Unix Server or the Microsoft Exchange Server. Originally, I had the same error, and found that nothing had been installed on Unixor Exchange, to support SapConnect.
In SCOT (View -> System Status), your mail remains at the Intransit column.
Check you sendmail.cf files (e.g.Sun Solaris /etc/mail/sendmail.cf). Try using the sendmail command to send a test file at the Unix level. You must be able to send mail at theUnix level before you can send mail at the SAP level.

How to send Mail in case of Output Determination - Transmission medium 5

Dear Friends,
I have a below requirement.
- Create custom output type having Transmission medium 5, which triggers on creation of order.
- Write driver program attached to that output type that sends e-mail to the person who has created the order.
- Mail contain information regarding pricing for individual line item wise.
I have gone through many posts but not sure about process of generate the mail in case of Transmission medium 5.
My query is:
Do we require to write FM (SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1) to send e-mail to respective person or it will take care by system (Transmission medium 5)?
If FM not required then how can we write code that triggers the mail to specific mail ID?

Yes, for your custom requirement you will have to create a Z report.
LIke your requirement must be to put something specific in mail body or attach something with mail. All this will not be catered by the standard report maintained against your output type and transmission medium.
As i understand for any output type a message is triggerd and stored in database table (like NAST) and then these requests are picked by standard report (like RSNAST00). These reports then in return call the Program/form maintained against the ouptut type and transmission medium (table TNAPR).
So i would suggest that create a custom report and use the FM for sending mails. These FMs are pretty simple to use. Find a sample code in the below link:
