Does turning on Hprof hurt performance in an application server?

i'm running WebSphere Application Server v6.1 on HP-UX, which runs on Hotspot VM by default.
Since Hotspot won't produce anything like javacore or heapdump. I would very much like it to turn on Hprof all the time. So that I have some material for analysis if an application server hang or performance delegation occurs.
However I hardly find anyone saying they've turned on this option for WebSphere, nor does IBM redbooks. Would this hurt performance to turn on hprof for WAS JVM? or does this bring along any performance hazard? I'm planning to have this option on all the time in my production servers.

Have you heard of HPjmeter? Try running with -XX:+HeapDump -XX:+HeapDumpOnCntrlBreak (i'm not sure of the syntax o the latter option, but its documented in the HPjmeter user manual. Any further questions ask me - I used to develop the tool.

Does turning off energy saver include never letting the display to sleep? A warning alerts me that its life might shorten... Thanks!
(I'm doing this for the recalibrating of the battery etc...)

It would shorten it's life if you leave it on year 'round. For the amount of time to calibrate the battery won't hurt it.

    EmadJamal,
the battery won’t melt because of long connection to the AC charger, although that has the potential of reducing the battery’s life.
Do you have access to a second 60 W AC charger to test with your MacBook Pro, or access to a second 13-inch MacBook Pro against which your AC charger could be tested?

  • Need clear steps for doing performance tuning on SQL Server 2008 R2 (DB Engine, Reporting Services and Integration Services)

We have to inverstigate about a reporting solution where things are getting slow (may be material, database design, network matters).
I have red a lot in MSDN and some books about performance tuning on SQL Server 2008 R2 (or other) but frankly, I feel a little lost in all that stuff
I'am looking for practical steps in order to do the tuning. Someone had like a recipe for that : a success story...
My (brain storm) Methodology should follow these steps:
Resource bottlenecks: CPU, memory, and I/O bottlenecks
     tempdb bottlenecks
A slow-running user query : Missing indexes, statistics,...
Use performance counters : there are many, can one give us the list of the most important
how to do fine tuning about SQL Server configuration
    SSRS, SSIS configuration ?
    And do the recommandations.

    Hello,
There is no clear defined step which can be categorized as step by step to performance tuning.Your first goal is to find out cause or drill down to factor causing slowness of SQL server it can be poorly written query ,missing indexes, outdated stats.RAM crunch
CPU crunch so on and so forth.
I generally refer to below doc for SQL server tuning
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd672789(v=sql.100).aspx
For SSIS tuning i refer below doc.

  • The logged in user does not have permissions to perform this operation

    OIM 11.1.2.0.4
Connector: Microsoft Active Directory User Management 11.1.1.5.0
Action: revoke a provisioned AD account (logged in user is XELSYSADM member of SYSTEM ADMINISTRATIONS role)
Error message: IAM-2050243 : Orchestration process with id 5756, failed with error message IAM-4065011 : An error occurred in oracle.iam.provisioning.spi.DOBProvisioningMechanism/revoke(Account) while revoking account with id 1 for the user with key 43 and the cause of error is The logged in user does not have permissions to perform this operation..

The problem is missing entries into table AAD, Provisioning API uses table AAD to check administrator's scope on the user's organization.
TEST: following SQL statement should return at least a value
    select aad_write, aad_delete
    from aad aad
    , usr usr
    where aad.act_key = usr.act_key
    and usr.usr_key = <user_key_of_user_you_wanto_to_revoke>
    and aad.ugp_key in (
    select ugp.ugp_key
    from ugp ugp
    , usg usg
    where ugp.ugp_key = usg.ugp_key
    and usg.usr_key = <user_key_of_xelsysadm>
BUG (in my case): if you create an Organization using a OIM user that does not have any Role (except default ALL USERS Role) the system does NOT add right entries into AAD table, so you can revoke account of users that are members of this Organization
WORKAROUND: manually insert entries for all Organizations (ACT_KEYs) for the user XELSYSADM into AAD table
FIX: always create an Organization using a OIM users with at least one Role except ALL USERS role

I've tried to dry it in rice and after two days it won't turn on , the only thing that does turn on is the flash.

I am a songwriter and want to upload my work to itune but I need a few question cleared up.
    1.     Does Itune interact with the Performing Arts organization such as BMI in order for artist to be paid or do i just set up a paypal account and pay artist myself?
    2.     What percentage of sales does itune take or is it a flat rate?
    3.     When i upload does itune give me an option to set price for my work.?

    Town Square,
In addition to the iTunes Store, you may wish to check out some of the online stores that may be a bit more flexible for artists just starting to sell online:
    NoiseTrade
    BandCamp

  • Computer does turn on reliably, and turns itself off

I have a Mac G5 Recently the computer started turning itself off while I use it. Then sometimes it does not turn on at all, and if it does turn on there is always a prolonged beep before it boots up.
I replaced the power supply back in August; I am not sure if it is related, but the the computer worked fine for 6 months with the new power supply.

Hi there, sounds like the Logic board around the RAM slots...
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.
Get Temperature Monitor - 4.51 to see if it's heat related...

  • Does increasing ram improves game performance?

does increasing ram improves game performance of my MBP 13" 2012??

Using Activity Monitor to read System Memory & determine how much RAM is used
Adding RAM only makes it possible to run more programs concurrently.  It doesn't speed up the computer nor make games run faster.  What it can do is prevent the system from having to use disk-based VM when it runs out of RAM because you are trying to run too many applications concurrently or using applications that are extremely RAM dependent.  It will improve the performance of applications that run mostly in RAM or when loading programs.
