Hold time problems with Dual Clock FIFO

Undoubtedly the main use-case for Dual Clock FIFOs is the transport of data across clock domains.
In this simple example, a serial datastream is deserialized and written to a dual clock FIFO, which in turn is read in a different (slightly faster) clock domain by a simple loopback unit, which takes the data and sends it back through another dual clock FIFO, where it is read and serialized out again.
The clock rates used are relatively slow (10Mhz and 12MHz) compared to the FPGA capabilities (both fabric and FIFO), so I would expect this to be straight forward and without any issues. Nevertheless, Vivado constantly creates a number of hold time violations on the input of the output FIFO (usually a few hundred picoseconds) where the routing delay seems to be in the range of 5ns, which I consider odd, given that both clocks have a period which is a magnitude higher.
The loopback should be synchronous with one clock cycle delay, so I wouldn't expect any problems from there.
As usual, I'm probably missing the obvious here and I'm looking forward to a great explanation what I did wrong :)
Thanks in advance,
Herbert

Here is the Timing Report.
The issue might be caused by the Quick directive given for place and route.
  place_design -directive Quick
  route_design -directive Quick
At least the hold time violations in this example go away when I remove the directive.
Thanks for looking into it, appreciated!
Best,
Herbert

  • Problem with my clock

I've updated my 3GS yesterday to 4.2.1 and have now problems with the clock. My iPhone is still in the German summer time. Synchronising again this morning didn't solve the problem.
Well done Apple, this caused a morning in unnecessary rush this morning. I was hoping Apple learned from the big issues in Australia with the alarm clock after the last update.

Right now this is the Slipknot - Scream, does this not enought ?

  • Problem with the clock widget

    Hi,
I would like to know if someone have a problem with the clock widget after doing the update system to Mac OS X Mavericks (v.10.9), cause the appearance of my clock was like this (attached image). Pay attention for the position of hands of the clock (watch hands): Don't have something strange?
Anyone know how to fix this problem?
    Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have the same problem, I have done a fresh install of OS X and still did not fix the clock ... For when a new update?
    Thanks

  • Problems with Dual 2.0 G5

    Hi,
I'm having a couple problems with my Dual 2.0 Power Mac G5 (early 2005) and wondering how I can fix them and if they might be related.
    Problem 1:
My 20" Apple Cinema Display keeps going black. I'll come back to my computer after it has been on, thinking the display has gone to sleep. But when I move the mouse, nothing happens. The computer is set to never sleep, only the display. So then I shut the computer down by holding the power button for 5 seconds, and try to turn it back on after a minute. I can hear it starting up, but again, the screen stays black.
This has happened a few times over the past 6 months, but turning it off and on a couple times would eventually get the display to work again. This time, however, I'm having no such luck. Is my graphics card dying?
    Problem 2:
Again this has happened a few times over the past 6 months, but now it has happened twice in a row. After not using the computer for a while, I will notice the fans starting to run really loudly. At first, I just thought it got hot and the computer was trying to cool down. But they would run really loudly for a pretty long time, so I would check the computer to find it has locked up.
So now I can't get my computer to turn on and function properly. I'm not sure what to do or if these two problems are related. A couple days ago I installed a new SATA hard drive in the second hard drive bay. The installation went fine and I have already transferred some files over to the new drive, but I've got to wonder if the drive might have something to do with it. The problems have occurred before I installed the drive, but now they are occurring more frequently.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    David

I've got a dual 1.8 I bought in Dec. 2005. It's always been a might twitchy, but lately I get Kernel Panics regularly. Sometimes the HD is damaged and I have to run Disk Warrior to get it back.
I have had some serious issues with the HD in this machine. I might zero it out and start over.... or just buy a new one.
Can anyone tell me what the panic log means? I'll add memory... sero out or replace the drive... whatever it takes. I just want to find a clear path to freedom. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Problem with dual screen (24" imac 2006 ver)

    hi
    i've got a 24" intel imac (2006 ver) and i've connected it using apple's mini-dvi => vga adapter to my 2nd 22" lcd monitor, a samsung 2232GW, which is set to 1680 x 1050.
however, the samsung lcd displays (when i'm using as dual screen) is quite blur and double imaged. quality is readable but very irritating. i'm also using the same monitor for my ps3 (uses the DVI side) and have no problem with any visual aspect. I've tried playing around with the settings like resolution and calibration and tuning but didn't help at all.
anyone might have any ideas and enlighten me on this issue?
    thanks

Did you get any resolution to your question? I have the Samsung monitor almost like yours, and I posted two seconds ago. I think I have a similar problem. I had been using my Samsung with my PC, and just switched to Mac. I loved my Samsung, but now ,for the first time using as a second. Hooked up to mini dvi to dvi, and reported a glow, or tinge coming around any window that I may place on the Samsung. Also, when Ilook at the background around the window I can see that the resolution is not perfect and is breaking up a little. Did you try VGA? and did it help? Curious to know

    Hi ashwani26596,
Let's start by using the HP Support Assistant to check for any updates and drivers to see if that resolves the issue. If that doesn't work then go your Control Panel and then Programs and Features and uninstall the Catalyst Control Center. Then try installing both the Intel High-Definition Audio Driver and the AMD High-Definition Audio Driver.

    Question:
The first time you took the board in did they replace it on the spot or did you have to wait for a few days?
If I may ask where did you purchase the board?
they tested it, bought it online so it took some days for the package to go and return. They also tested the board.

Bought it last month, and the board is new I think because I forgot to return the bracket(got one in the replacement) and the box isn't teared like the one I turned in ...

  • Booting/Crashing Problems with Dual Core 2.3GHz PowerMac

I'm wondering if anybody else is having this problem. ...
I'm having problems booting my new Mac... for the first few weeks everything was fine ... but for the last few of days it often takes 2 or 3 tries to boot to the desktop (it hangs during the boot process) and sometimes when it get there it freezes when I try to launch an app. Rebooting yet again usually solves the problem...
Yesterday after i got it booted it sounded like my disk drive was working for a long time after it was booting the computer was very slow and when i checked CPU usage was very high bit i was not running anything to cause that!
This evening I had to reboot 5 times before I was able to do anything .. and one time the fans kicked into high gear and sounded like a vacuum cleaner!
Once I got it going I opened Mail and checked my new eMails, opened Safari then left the computer for about a half hour and when I got back I had message on my screen saying I had to reboot!
When I got my Mac I immediately ran the full hardware test and it passed... Then I immediately added 2 GB of Crucial RAM and ran the full hardware and memory test yet gain and everything passed...
So it should NOT be a RAM issue.
Has anybody else seen this type of thing and/or has any suggestions on how to fix it or isolate the problem?
    Thanks

    Feldspar-
As I'm waiting for for my replacement Dual Core 2.3 G5 to arrive back from Apple, I've been scanning this site to see if there has been any conclusive determination about the underlying problems with the new G5s. So far, I'm sorry to report, I don't see any.
My recomendation to you is to talk directly to apple tech support If you aren't already. Although they may not have a definate solution at this point, you may be able to get a new machine, with more assurrances of it being healthy, than getting your current machine repaired at a service center. You have only 30 days from your purchase date to determine this, and in my case it took a few days working with them to get to the point where all of their tests and trials were done and my machine was classified DOA.
We have paid too much money for a machine that is only as reliable as the amount of time we're willing to spend to get it running after a few (or more)boots. One of the main reasons I've chosen Apple for all these years is that I didn't want to have to learn all of the underlying engineering and programming that make it work. I have always been willing to pay more money for a system that works when you turn it on the first time. I am confident that Apple wants very much to maintain their image of reliablility since much of their competitive edge is the advantage of great looking Apple hardware running their feature packed native software.
I am hoping that we haven't entered a new era with Apple products where my new best friend is going to be the tech guy at the local apple repair center: (not to knock any of them..by the way.)
Although I don't make my living on my cumputer as you do, I depend on my computer throughout my day for information, important financial transactions and comunication. It goes beyond inconvenient to have to send my machine back, for whatever reason. I am writing this on a rock solid G4 933 that has never had a single problem. Have I just been lucky?

  • One more time - problems with fans

I realize this is but one of hundreds or possibly thousands of cases of Mac users being plagued by fan noise problems, but to me it has been a long and extremely frustrating saga. I have been a Mac user since the very beginning, through different versions of Macs and iMacs, and this is the first time I ever refer to a Macintosh as a "piece of junk."
I bought my iMac G5 in August 2005, a 20-inch ALS with 250 GB hard drive and 512 MB RAM. It worked perfectly until January this year, when all of sudden it shut down by itself. Freaked me out completely. Turned out to be power supply problem (EMC 2056) which Apple never informed me about.
I brought it to a repair shop that fixed the intermittent shut-down problem. I also added 1GB memory. But then the fans started to go berserk. Before the power supply problem, I only heard the fans whenever I used a large program like Photoshop. For the most part, it was a very quiet machine. After the power supply was replaced, within minutes of turning the iMac on, I could hear the fans spinning faster and faster, stabilizing at around 4400 rpm and did not stop spinning until I put the iMac to sleep or turned it off, regardless of CPU usage or software being used.
I checked the discussions at this forum (over 500 posts, no real answer) and did every "voodoo trick" suggested: I reset the SMU dozens of time, cleaned the inside of the iMac and around the fan area, did apple hardware test (everything was fine), monitored temperature and activity with XRG (average CPU at 160F, hard drive at 113F), cleaned out caches, tested for corrupt preferences, re-installed the original OS 10.4 (which only made the fans louder), upgraded it back to OS 10.4.9. I also removed the additional 1 GB memory, thinking it might be a bad piece. It didn't help.
Finally, I requested fan replacement from Apple and got them. I installed them last Sunday and now the problem is even worse! Within SECONDS of turning it on, the CPU T- Dio soars to around 170F, even while the machine is still stone cold to the touch. The hard drive temperature now averages at 117F, CPU fan is never below 4000 rpm (4400 rpm 98% of the time), even at 5-8% CPU usage.
The fans themselves are much quieter because they're brand new. But you can still hear the hums and whirs and it drives me nuts. More seriously, my iMac is now narcoleptic. If I use it too long (a few hours on a stretch) it will put itself to sleep, apparently because it thinks it is overheated. And when I use Photoshop or Illustrator, the awake time is even shorter. Depending on the outside temperature, at the most I can only use them for about an hour at a time. Two days ago we had heat wave, and even with the air conditioner running full blast in my study, the iMac kept falling asleep within minutes of using Illustrator.
Right now I am using TextEdit and no other program is running. Uptime is 59 minutes, average CPU 9.6%. CPU T-Dio is at 168.8F, hard drive 117.5F, CPU fan at 4400 rpm. I am out of ideas and before I do something drastic to this machine, if anyone knows what's going on with my iMac (I know every case is different), please help!

    iMacG5 ECM 2056   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   20"/2.0GHz Power PC/1.5GB DDR SDRAM/250GB

I do not have the solution... but the same problem with a nice iMac G5 purchased in July 2005.
    My Mac operated very silently untill 6 month ago;problem MAY ( I am not sure) have started when I upgraded to 10.4.10 ; even with few applications and low CPU usage (80% or more inactive), it seems that I have the following regrettable chain of events;
==> the CPU temperature is quite high ( 60°c to 72°c most of the time, ie 140-160 °F)
==> resulting in fan turning at high speed ( 2.000 for CPU and system, 2500 for HD), and changing speed all the time
==> resulting in a noisy computer
I am SURE this was not the case 6 month ago, and I suspect it is linked to my upgrade to 10.4.10.
I did all sorts of reinstall, authorization repair, SMU reset, fan clean-up with no sucess.

  • Player compatibility problem with dual layer media

I've created a dual layer DVD and there is a problem with compatibility from player to player.
It plays fine in one of my DVD players but will not load in the other.
The duplicators tested my master on 2 players and it loaded on both, but would lock up if a chapter was selected from the submenu.
It has 4 tracks of content. 3 menus, and a bunch of chapter markers. The original build had stories (replaced with standard chapter markers) but I removed them hoping it would solve the problem.
The imported video tracks were created with Compressor. MPEG-2 2 pass VBR max bit rate 7.5. AC3 audio tracks. 7.7 GB on disc.
I'm already way over my deadline and ahve no idea what to do next other than maybe recompress so the disc is not so close to being maxed out.

Thats just how compatible that media is... +R DL (double layer) & -R DL are not that compatible. Recordable media is less compatible that replicated discs but double and dual layer media can be 50% compatible at best (depending on your target market...)
Good quality media, Verbatim +R DL for example burnt at slow speeds helps improve things,

  • Nano problems with Alarm clocks(lik e Luna or others)

I have a new nano 4gb, and an Xtrememac Luna... My old ipod 2nd gen worked perfecly, the new nano has problems instead.. When my alarm function lit the ipod, it does not play the song, but remain in pause... The nano wakes up, but old nano started to play the song, this stands in pause. Why this? Can I hope in a fix or something? many people have this problem...
    Possible solutions?
    thanks in advance

Since there was no reply from Apple so far I called their service today.
The claimed that this problem was not known with the devices which they are selling and that they can't tell about 3rd party alarm clocks.
Big news! Who would have thought of that answer?
Well I then called the manufacturer of my alarm clock which is called "auvisio", one of these cheap copies. They knew about the problem with the nano 3G on thier device and said that they can't offer a solution so far. They offered RMA which I would say is quite nice of them but it doesn't help me much with my wake-up-problem in the morning.
I already settled with the thought that I would have to buy the more expensive Apple stuff but as I read above even Bose seems to have the problem. Complete confusion.
Hopefully firmware 1.0.3 will be released soon and can finally solve these problems. Release 1.0.2 definitely was a step into the opposite direction...

  • Additional record time problem with series

I cannot record a particular show appearing on a local PBS station beyond the time the show is on. The show is EastEnders & it comes on every Sunday night. There are 2 different episodes, one starts at 11pm & ends at 11:30, the 2nd show starts at 11:30 PM & ends at midnight. There are no episode titles, It appears simply as EastEnders for both time slots in the program guide
When I set up the series recording on my FiOS DVR, I set it to record a specified length of time after the show ends, so I don't miss any of it in case  the show  runs long. The problem is that although I have set it up correctly, the DVR will not record for any length of time after the 2nd show ends. I have tried setting it to record 15, 30, 60 & 90 minutes after the show ends & it always stops recording just at the point the 2nd show ends. I know it is not the actual DVR at fault as I tried this on both of my DVRs & the same thing happened. Also, this is the only show that I have a problem with. Other shows that I have set up to record longer, do so without a problem.
I have spoken to FiOS tech support several times about this issue & can't resolve it. They said they get calls from customers with issues like mine from time to time, but don't know what the problem is.
Could this have something to do with the way the PBS station communicates it's program guide to Verizon? If so, what exactly is the issue? Is there a fix?

Try making a manual recording.  You can specify the start time, end time, and recurrence on a specified day of the week. That should eliminate any issues the guide may be causing.  You can't attach the show's name so it will show up in your list of recordings as a manual recording.

  • Screen Sharing problem with dual monitors in 10.6

When I'm using Screen Sharing from my Macbook to my iMac with dual displays (10.6.1 on both machines) It works fine when I initially connect, but when I switch to Display 1, it shows me Display 1, but though my cursor moves, I can't click on anything. It won't let me go back to viewing both displays either, and changing from Adaptive to Full Quality or vice-versa makes no difference, as does Scaling. This happens whether I'm on my local network or using Back-to-my-Mac. It was working fine under Leopard, but has been exhibiting this behavior since the 10.6 upgrade.

This is a very irritating bug. One thing that has worked for me a couple of times (I think a couple of times it also didn't work) is to turn on mirroring. Screen sharing then only shows one monitor, since they are both the same. I'm not sure if the monitors have to have the same resolution for this to work, mine do. The nice thing about this is that before quitting the screen sharing app you can just turn mirroring off again and it will go back to normal. It's easiest to do this by enabling the 'show displays in menu bar' in your displays preferences.

  • Rise time Problem with flash upload

My problem is this, I have my hosting on an IIS with PHP5 running, the flash uploader is in AS2.0 Flash 8, the file upload limit in the server is at 15mb, the maximum execution time is only 500 seconds. Now when I upload a 7mb file for example, takes less than 90 seconds to upload it, this all good, but rising to perhaps a smaller file with a conxeion to delay more than 90 seconds, the flash returns me HTTPError 500 .
The truth is that no longer can be, we would appreciate your help .. thanks

    HollyBerry,
Neither of the links you posted is relevant to a digital input. The OP is using the NI 9401 which has only digital inputs. The 500 ns rise/fall time limit is likely the problem with his system.
    andrewMHL,
Your external low pass filter followed by a Schmitt trigger is the best solution. Some NI digital input and counter input devices have digital debounce or hystersis inputs but the 9401 specifications do not mention anything like that. The 500 ns specification also implies that it does not have such signal conditioning.
It is conceivable that you could sample the digital input lines at a very high rate and then use some time domain processing of the data to reject the high frequency extraneous transitions.
As a general rule I find that using a bit of circuitry to clean up a signal before computerizing it is usually better than writing a complicated signal processing algorithm later to try to extract the information from the data.
