Domain trust for external exchange domain
Ok so I have inherited two domains, one domain runs activedirectory services that all of the workstations are joined to (domainA), thesecond domain hosts exchange (domainB).After signing in on a computer in domainA we have to authenticateoutlook with domainB to get email. The end result, I would like is to be able to authenticatewith domainA for email but have it load the profile as if it was domainB. I cancreate a one way trust from domainB to domainA but Im not sure how to foolexchange into believing DomainA\user1 is DomainB\user1. I've messed around withAuthenticate as permissions on domainB but that doesnt seemto work correctly. I don’t want to messwith full access permissions on exchange as that would cause issues.I havent had any problems getting the trust functioning correctly, just the windows/exchange user side of things.Does...

Hi,
Which kind of domain trust have you created? Which kind of forest trust do you want to create?
A one-way forest trust allows all users in one forest to trust all domains in the other forest; a two-way forest trust forms a transitive trust relationship between
every domain in both forests.
Based on my understanding of forest trust, a forest trust is a transitive trust between a forest root domain and a second forest root domain. If you create a forest
trust between two root domains in forest A and forest B, it provides a one-way or two-way, transitive trust relationship between every domain in each forest.
In another word, all the domains in forest A and forest B would inherit the trust relationship from their root domains. Personally, you can just create a new forest trust and keep the existing domain trust.
In addition, please make sure that the forest function level is Windows Server 2003 or higher before you create a forest trust.
Best regards,
Susie

Out of office replies in Exchange 2013 not working for external recipients
Hi,
Few days ago a couple of company workers went to vacation. They set up OOF automatic replies in OWA 2013. However automatic replies are not working for external recipients (outside of company). Internal users (company users) receive OOF notification.
I'm using smart host in sender connector configuration (SMTP server of internet provider) to deliver emails. Any clues about this problem ? Please find below part of the transaction log. For testing purposes i set up administrator account
to be on vacation.

Please check if it is allowed in AllowedOOFType of the Remote Domain *
In Exchange 2013, the only way to see or change the current configuration for automatic replying and forwarding to the Internet is via the Exchange Management Shell (EMS) with PowerShell commands.
To get the currently configured Remote Domains, use:
Get-RemoteDomain
Name DomainName
AllowedOOFType
Default *
External
Get-RemoteDomain Default | fl AllowedOOFType, AutoReplyEnabled, AutoForwardEnabled
AllowedOOFType : External
AutoReplyEnabled : False
AutoForwardEnabled : False
To change the settings, use the Set-RemoteDomain command.
Enable automatic replies
Set-RemoteDomain -AutoReplyEnabled $true
Enable automatic forwards
Set-RemoteDomain –AutoForwardEnabled $true
Enable OOF for Outlook 2003 and previous (for Exchange 2007 and 2010 support)
Set-RemoteDomain –AllowedOOFType $ExternalLegacy
To change all these properties at once, you can use:
Set-RemoteDomain Default -AutoReplyEnabled $true –AutoForwardEnabled $true –AllowedOOFType $ExternalLegacy
Note:
Valid settings for the AllowedOOFType property are:
External
This is the default and only allows for the new style OOF messages as introduced in Outlook 2007.
ExternalLegacy
This settings allows for both the new style and old style OOF messages and needs to be set if you want to enable external OOF support for Outlook 2003 as well.
None
This setting doesn’t allow for the use of OOF messages at all (both internal and external).
InternalLegacy
This setting only allows for internal OOF messages to be sent for all Outlook versions.

Out of Office replies not working for external emails - Exchange 2010, Outlook 2010
Hello.
We have two Exchange 2010 mailbox servers and a third for client access. There are two mailbox databases replicated to both servers as a DAG. There is also one 2003 legacy server that is awaiting decommissioning that is basically just heating the server
room - all the mailboxes have been migrated.
We have recently noticed that out of office replies are no longer working for external recipients, but are being sent for internal users.
I have checked under "Organisation configuration" - "hub transport" - "Remote domains" and made sure that is set to "Allow external out-of-office messages and legacy out-of-office messages"
Looking at the message tracking logs it appears that the out of office reply isn't generated for external users - we do have an external mail filter that inbound and outbound messages are relayed through but that isn't blocking anything.
This was working until recently, and I can't see any errors in the logs that look related. All three servers have been rebooted just in case.
Any suggestions where to look next?Hello,
You can capture a trace log to diagnostic
the OOF issue:
a. Start ExTRA by clicking Run on the Start menu and then entering the following command-line:
Extra.exe
b. On the “Welcome to the Exchange Troubleshooting Assistant” page click Select a task.
c. On the “Troubleshooting Task Selection Screen” page click Trace Control.
d. Click OK to the following prompt alerting you about possible performance problems running a trace:
This server does not have the module needed for interpreting traces.
Proceed only if this is being done under the direct supervision of a qualified Exchange support engineer.
e. On the “Configure Trace File” page configure the following options:
f. After configuring the options in step e, click Set manual trace tags.
g. On the “Set Trace Tags Manually” page configure the following settings:
Check the following trace tags: InfoWorker.Assistants.OOF, all.
Note: Please expand all filter options, make sure that we did not check any filter options here. And run the trace again.
h. Click Start Tracing at the bottom of the page.
i. Please reproduce this issue for 3-5 times. After reproduced this issue, stop the tracing and collect the ExchangeDebugTraces.etl

Outlook Anywhere proxy changed from Basic to NTLM for external users
I have a Exchange 2013 environment that is also running Exchange 2010 coexistence (migrating). What is happening is autodiscover is handing out NTLM for the proxy settings and not basic. However when it is using NTLM we seem to get the password prompt over
and over. If I manually changed it to Basic then it works fine, but when autodiscover goes again it changes back to NTLM and prompts that the Administrator made a change and you need to restart Outlook.
I checked Outlook Anywhere and all my servers have Basic set for external users and NTLM set for internal.
I only have a few mailboxes on 2013 and 2010 mailboxes seem not to have a problem.
Here is an output for Outlook Anywhere on all six servers:

If it doesn’t work with the resolution above, please do the following checking in ADSI Edit:
1. In Adsiedit, expand Configuration-->CN=Services -> CN=Microsoft Exchange -> CN=domain -> CN=Administrative Groups -> CN=Exchange Administrative Group -> CN=Databases.
2. Right-click the listed database > Properties.

Configure a sharepoint 2013 site for external and internal access
I need to configure a local install of sharepoint 2013 so that users can access it internally and externally using windows/AD authentication. The internal and external addresses are different.
I have bound an external ip to the domain for external access.
I have created Alternate Access mapping, and bound the host header but I get a file not found message for external access.
Have I missed something here? why the error and how can it be fixed. Step by step process would be appreciated.Hi Luis,
According to your description, my understanding is that the error occurred when accessing the site externally.
The most common cause for this is that the IIS host header is configured incorrectly. The 404 will appear because we are hitting a different IIS web site and not the one we are intended to.
Here is a similar issue for you to take a look:

Lyncdiscover reports HTTP 500 Internal Server Error for external users
Hello,
I have a problem providing lyncdiscover information for external Lync users. The same address works internal (prompts for file download) so I believe the problem is UAG/TMG providing the site which is not my cup of tea. I have a working external lyncdiscover
for other domain in the same Lync + UAG/TMG server environment. I have also checked the public DNS records few times and everything should be fine. Firewall also shouldn't be an issue since it reports the internal server error, right? Any suggestions what
should I check?more information based on Lync Autodiscover Web Service Remote Connectivity Test.

In my third-party web application of Office 365, I want to have access to the contacts, events and emails of all the users from the organizations who installed my app. The thing is I don't want that all these users have to grant me access, I just want one
admin of the org to grant access for my app and then be able to retrieve the data I need for all the users.
To test for one organization, I logged in as the admin and proceed to the Oauth2 authentication to retrieve the access token and in the first request (the GET one to retrieve an authorization code) i add the parameter
prompt=admin_consent.
With this access token, I can access the data (emails, contact, event) of the admin
for instance for the contacts
uri: https://outlook.office365.com/ews/odata/Users(adminemail)/Contacts
but not the data of the other users of this org with this uri
uri: https://outlook.office365.com/ews/odata/Users(useremail)/Contacts
The only thing I can do is retrieve an access token for each user but it supposed that each user has to authorize the access to the app but it's very cumbersome. So, i don't see what enables the parameter prompt=admin_consent and how to use it. Does anybody
know what it does?
And my question is: how can I do to access the data of all the users of one organization when the access has been granted by one admin?
Thank you!

You are sending the OAuth request to a tenant specific endpoint of Azure AD. Note the {key_provided} part of your Url - that part represents the tenantid or a registered domain name of an Azure AD tenant. Azure AD throws this error is the user signing in
is not a user in that tenant.
Multi-tenant applications like yours have two options:
Perform home realm discovery yourself and send the SSO request to the correct tenant-specific endpoint of Azure AD: when a new Azure AD organization signs-up for your application, record its tenant ID, and registered domain names. On your login page, ask
the user for their email and try to discover what Org they belong to using the suffix the email.
Use the common endpoint of Azure AD. Instead of the {key_provided} part of the URL, use 'common'. In this case Azure AD will determine the user's tenant and sign-in the user. The token that your application will receive will still be from the user's tenant
(iss claim).
2 is more convenient for apps. However #1 has an advantage when the user's Organization has customized their sign-in page with the company logo etc - in the case of #1 the user will directly be taken to the customized and familiar sign-in page.
I recommend a combination of the two: try determining the user's organization and sending them to the tenant specific SSO endpoint. If you're not able to - send them to the common endpoint. -
Hello,
I am getting the error message listed in the topic subject when i try to install the Exchange Server 2013 SP1 Evaluation Mode downloaded from your website. After completing all requirements & pre-requisites, I started the installation with the Mailbox
& Client Access role selected, when i get to the screen which says "Readiness Check" main page subject, and the progress says Configuring Prerequisites, before any progress in the %, i get the error message:
The Type initializer for 'Microsoft.Exchange.Configuration.Tasks.ThrottlingModule1' threw an exception
and it says retry.
Knowing that the server is a member of a domain. How would i resolve this issue?
Thanks,
Eliehi Ed,
i am running Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard Evaluation Edition with Exchange Server 2013 Evaluation, But that error message was resolved by removing and re-installing .NET Framework 3.5. That is fine now.
But now i am getting another error message When it tries to install the Management Tools.
(Step 1 of 9: Management Tools)
Error: The Following error was generated when "$error.Clear();
Set-LocalPermissions
"was run: "The process does not possess the 'SeSecurityPrivilege' privilege which is required for this operation"'
knowing that the server is part of a domain and the domain controller runs Windows Server 2008 R2 Evaluation Edition.
Any ideas why this error message popups up?

Windows Store App can't verify the server is trusted for your sign in address
I am aware this is (or was) an issue for the Lync 2013 client as well, as per
http://terenceluk.blogspot.ie/2013/04/signing-into-lync-2013-client-presents.html
This does seem to be fixed at this stage though, because after adding lyncdiscoverinternal.SIPdomain.com the Lync 2013 client does not prompt about the certificate.
However, the Windows Store app does prompt "Lync can't verify that the server is trusted for your sign-in address. Connect anyway?" This presumably boils down to the same issue where our Lync 2013 Frontend is lyncfrontend.internal.domain.com which
does not match the SIPdomain.com.
Is there a fix for this other than forcing lyncdiscoverinternal to the reverse proxy? The TrustModelData registry key only applies to the Lync 2013 full client so does not affect the Windows Store app.
Any suggestions would be welcome.Hi wagenveld,
Create the DNS records as below:
Internal SIPdomain.com zone:
DNS A record:
lyncdiscoverinternal.SIPdomain.com-> sip.SIPdomain.com
DNS A record:
sip.SIPdomain.com-> IP address of Front End Server
For details, you can refer to the following blog:

ADFS setup for external access
Hi all, I would like to setup ADFS for the following scenario below:
Internal intranet:
URL: https://intranet.acme.com
domain: ACME
ACME domain users: Acme\johndoe
External Vendor:
domain: ABC
ABC domain users: ABC\lucysmith
Goals: allow external vendor users ABC domain access internal intranet
https://intranet.acme.com via SharePoint-ADFS
Questions:
1. Do I need to setup ADFS on both ACME & ABC domain or just one side? If it is one side, then which one - ACME or ABC?
2. When I setup SharePoint web application for
https://intranet.acme.com, will this URL will be served for both internal and external users or do I have to extend it as different URL for external users?
a. If
https://intranet.acme.com served for both internal and external vendor users, will internal user get normal NT prompt for authentication or it will redirect to ADFS login page just like external user?
b. If we need to extend web application for external vendor user, let's say
https://abcexternal.acme.com, will we only need to config adfs for this extended web application so external vendor user will get adfs redirect login where internal user got NT prompt for authentication?
ThanksHello
1) you would need to setup ADFS on ABC and configure SharePoint to consume their ADFS token
2) I would recommend enabling a default zone for NTLM and extend that to use for your ADFS users (intranet)

Setting up MX Record for External email Access
To All,
I'm having trouble getting mail sent from external users to email accounts setup on my internally hosted server.
I have setup my server in a Standard Configuration using the following format for my FQDN:
server.mydomain.com (not real name)
I have checked both Primary Zone and Reverse Zone and both check fine.
I can send and receive email, while connected within my local domain, between users I have setup on my server using the format:
[email protected]
I can send email from inside the network to an outside email account, but cannot receive email from any users outside.
I have POP, IMAP, and SMTP ports (110, 143, and 25, respectively) all forwarded to my server thru my AEBS.
Consulting the setup guides, I have found these references to editing the MX record to allow for external email access using the [email protected] format:
+"If you don’t want to use your server’s fully qualified DNS name for users’ email addresses, the+
+DNS service must also include an MX record for your server. For example, if your server’s DNS+
+name is myserver.example.com and you want to have email addresses like [email protected],+
+the DNS service needs an MX record for your server."+....from the Installation and Setup Worksheet, page 15.
also
+"If you want users to be able to send and receive mail over the Internet, make sure DNS+
+service is set up with the appropriate MX records for Mail service:+
+A. If you have an ISP that provides DNS service to your network, contact the ISP and+
+have the ISP set up MX records for you. Your ISP needs to know your mail server’s+
+DNS name (such as mail.example.com) and your server’s IP address."+...from the Mail Service Admin page 22.
My question is...how does the MX record need to be set up?
Like this?
10 @ mydomain.com
Thanks for your help,
SteveCamelot,
Thanks for replying.
1) What format do you want your users' email address in? (e.g. [email protected], >[email protected], [email protected], etc.)
I want my users to have a [email protected] email address.
I set up an A record as you suggested:
mail.mydomain.com A 1.2.3.4
My MX record was setup:
mydomain.com 10 mail.mydomain.com
However, I am still getting returned email from outside users. They are getting the following error:
+This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification+
+Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:+
[email protected]
+Technical details of permanent failure:+
+Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 554 554 5.7.1 <[email protected]>: Relay access denied (state 14).+
Checking the Server Logs for IMAP I am getting these errors:

When I try and use an online MX Record checker to check the MX record, it says the mail.mydomain.com record is invalid.
It's not until I change my MX record back to:
+@ 10 mydomain.com+
will the MX record show valid.
Network Utility scans show the following with the MX record set to @ 10 mydomain.com:
++; <<>> DiG 9.4.2-P2 <<>> mydomain.com mx +multiline +nocomments +nocmd +noquestion +nostats search+

If I have it set up the way you suggested, the Network Utility and MX Checker reports that the NameServers don't respond to the entered MX record name.
Thanks again for your help,

Changing User Name for an Exchange Mailbox
Does anyone know how to edit the username information when viewing "Preferences" >> "Accounts" under iMail? I need to add the @xxx.com to the end of the user name and cannot figure out how to change it.
Yes, this is the worst OS release ever..
I have no clue why Apple is making that field greyed out. On all the other releases, its always setup with the wrong "username" but at least you can change it. Not sure why Apple greyed this field out.
ANyways, here is how you can change it, but just to let you know, as soon as i change it, launch mail, when i click on the inbox, mail will crash (Crash log below)
but, here is how you can try it.
1. Close mail
2. Go to ~/library/Mail/V2/Maildata
3. Edit Accounts.plist and find your account for the exchange
Look for the below
<key>Username</key>
<string>davidpetree</string>
<key>uniqueId</key>
So, just add the @domain.com (after the name)
so example, mine would be
<key>Username</key>
<string>[email protected]</string>
<key>uniqueId</key>
Anyways, Save that and reopen mail. It should connect (unless you run into the same crash bullcrap as mine)
