Don't drop it yet!

Hi,
I am trying to perform a drag and drop operation programmatically - no mouse - in Snow Leopard, Leopard and Tiger - currently carbon based.
The problem is that as soon as I start the drag it immediately drops again, presumably because all the mouse buttons are up.
On X11 this is easy to overcome. On windows I need to play with IDropSource::QueryContinueDrag in order to prevent the operation stopping one event after it starts. On MacOsX there doesn't seem to be an equivalent and I'm a bit stumped.
I would prefer to avoid sending a sequence of mouse events into the OS and creating a drag and drop in response to getting them back - this invites race conditions that aren't really acceptable. I am prepared to start a drag and drop first and then start sending mouse events, but that simply doesn't work because the drag has always already failed before any mouse events take effect.
Any ideas anyone?
Andy

Forgive me for asking this really dumb question, but are using the DropBox app on the iPad?

why Lion is working too bad? why apple don't fix it yet?

Apple is constantly working to fix bugs that occur in operating systems and other applications. Lion may have some initial bugs that needs fixing, but rest assured that Apple is working on it. And not everyone is having problems with Lion. I for one, am not.
    Cheers

Bought PS Elements 12 online this morning, unfortunately my internet connection crashed and download was incomplete, how can i go back? I don't have mail yet from Adobe of my purchase... Getting worried...

Go to http://www.adobe.com/downloads and click the Try next to Elements.
Once you have the trial installed, use your newly-purchased serial number to register it.

  • After I upgraded to icloud, and then did a regular sync ( I don't have lion yet) everything on my ical is listed double?

I upgraded to icloud on my ipad.  We don't have Lion yet on the Imac, so I did a regular plug in sync.  Now all the items on the calendar on my ipad are listed twice.  I tried to sync again and no change. I can't figure out why this happened.  On my imac the calendar items are listed once.

You can go to Settings > iCloud and turn off syncing to Calendar, Contacts (and to any other application that you don't need to backup or share).  Once you upgrade to Lion, it's easy to turn the iCloud syncing back on (but then stop syncing it over iTunes >Info.

  • I don't have iWork yet but I wanna know...

I don't have iWork yet but I wanna know if presentations created with Keynote, can it be export as a PowerPoint? And if it can do that, will these mac-created PowerPoints work on the PC? Thanks.

The funny thing is, it all really comes down to how lousy PPT for WIndows is. I've exported stuff from Keynote to PPT 2004 on the Mac, and it actually looks fairly decent (soft shadows are there for example). You do lose some text build effects and most of the fancy transitions aren't there, but the slides do LOOK the same.
Take them to windows though, and it all goes to #$%^&.
The new PPT 2007 for windows will probably change that, but how many users are actually going to upgrade? Probably not. The lowest common denominator is a version of PPT that can't handle soft shadows, and sometimes can't even handle transparent images. It's overall pretty darn lousy.

  • How do I set up a wirelss music system with a MacBook Pro? Need advice on what to use: Bluetooth or AirPort. I don't have speakers yet. I listen mostly to classical music. Any advice on what kind of speakers?

I live in a small apartment and would like speakers in the bedroom and the living room. I like the "all-in-one" units. Would two of these sound better than one in the living room? I have a wireless modem from my phone company, but I have not hooked it up yet. What is AirPort and is it necessary to do what I want to do?

If your goal is to have a "whole home" audio experience, then using separate speakers in both the living room and bedroom would the proper approach.
If you decide to go the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) route, then you would need a minimum of two of these devices; one each for each room. The AX is a wireless Internet router with built-in audio. The AX's audio port supports both analog and digital optical audio output and will work with either self-powered speakers or an audio receiver that supports either connection type.
Classical music has very fine dynamics and, of course, the better the speaker, the better the sound reproduction. However, you don't need to go overboard as the AX is limited to the audio files that iTunes can play.

  • Anyone feeling philanthropic? I don't know C yet -NEED- an app...

The long story (scroll down to the marked "short story" if you consider this TLDR)
    Hi...
Some time ago, I completed the switch and moved the last winfailure box in this house - my music box - to Arch Linux. On this machine was an application called XMPlay, which I'd found after Googling for "MO3" one day, as  I'd recieved some music files in this format and wanted to play them outside of the game environment they'd come within.
So, some time period after getting this player I suddenly found myself playing the other formats it supported, including MOD, IT, XM, S3M and so on (I have no idea when). What are these formats? Well, back in the early and late nineties computers didn't have the capabilities they do today and so uncompressing and playing an MP3 all at once would be slightly just too much, especially when interpolated with graphics. So, this "tracking" or "module" format was invented; it's very similar to MIDI in its delivery except instead of the files simply containing instructions to play set sounds for set amounts of time at set frequencies, they did all that AND had the sounds ("samples") inside of them. MO3 is also like these formats except it's a little more modern, using MP3 samples instead of raw, uncompressed PCM data.
So all in all these are pretty nice formats... but how does this relate to this post?
XMPlay, Linux and the 450MHz P3 that has the spare ISA slot I plug my SB16 in have never really gotten along together. Well, Linux and the P3 got along just fine, with OSS finding my SB16 before I could say "er now how do I get sound working?" but the P3 and WINE have never really gotten along well. At all. And I am now at my wits end because not only does this player use 100% CPU the whole time it's playing ANYTHING, I have encountered my limit's worth of modules chopping up because there is so much sample and instruction data going to the player at once that the overhead of WINE is rendering my poor P3 uncapable of handling the torrent of data.
So... how does this actually relate to you?!
Un4seen Developments, the group that created XMPlay, also ported the library that XMPlay is based upon - BASS - to Linux and OS X. But they never wrote a player. Now, I am so beating myself up (well not really but I sure am not happy about it) that I don't know C, because I really, really want to be able to use BASS without the stupid overhead of WINE, yet the most I would probably do if relegated to C myself would be write some sort of hack that I'd need to recompile whenever I wanted to change tracks. I am just that impossible with C, yeah.
Now, if you know about modules and tracking, you're probably saying at this point "but Linux does have players available...!" Well, I've tried them. And hated them - not because they use a GUI or CLI or don't, but because of the sound. BASS allows you to set the interpolation, sync, reverb... and it has an equalizer and a "surround sound" mode. I used XMPlay for probably 3 years and I've listened to modules for the "first time" with (mode2) surround switched on, and if I listened to those same tracks again without my surround, equalization and reverb settings, they just wouldn't sound the same.
So could you possibly help me with writing some sort of... thing... for the Linux port of BASS...?
    The short story / summary
    1. 450MHz P3 w/ Windows 98.
    2. I install a game that has "MO3" music.
    2. "How can I play these MO3s outside of the game?" -> XMPlay
    3. XMPlay -> "Ooh, what are all these file formats" -> I learn about MOD, IT, XM, S3M, etc, and play some of this sort of music. (Don't ask me where I found it...)
?. Somewhere in all there I learn about the "mode2 surround" setting, love it, and permanently switch it on.
    [time passes]
    4. Put Linux on 450MHz P3
    5. Install WINE
    6. XMPlay runs sluggishly, making it impossible for some pieces of music to play without jumping. Said pieces of music coincide with those I really like.
    7. Un4seen Developments, the authors of XMPlay, have released the library XMPlay is based off, but no client, and I don't know C.
    8. I need a Linux version of XMPlay but... I... know... no... C. Can has help?

Thanks for your replies, everyone... Since posting my original post I've toyed with C again, and been bitten HARD by it for the Nth time, so I don't really want to think about the language
I think I've figured out why I'm impossible with C: my brain requires continual feedback, aka working examples that do more than print some text or something, in order to find the motivation to continue pursuing a language. And C weighs heavily in the theory (ie no working examples just reading page after page of code) department. So I poke at C expecting the kind of output I'd get from a simpler language like PHP, see I have to learn a bazillion tiny things just to even comprehend what I'm doing, get intimidated, and run in the other direction screaming, firmly declaring that I'll never touch it again. For at least a long time. And so it continues.
I think I'll just stick to PHP and handle XMPlay's shortcomings for now.

  • SOS - Drop down lists don't drop

Hello All, When my company went from N61 to N6P my drop down boxes all worked.  It was wonderful!  Now only my transaction drop down box functions properly.  Re-typing things like EKPO in the table box or 30000000  to 39999999 in the material number field is frustrating.  I don't care what caused them to change.  I just want to be able to do whatever I need to make them dropdown again.  PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

  • Has anyone done 3G speed tests yet?

I assume all the problems mentioned here will get worked out in short order, but I've seen nothing here comparing 3G speeds to Wifi speeds on these new units.
If anyone has done some test along these line, could you post results?
    Thanks--

I know some people have been having problems with the 3G but I have been very happy with it so far. Setup took about 30 seconds yesterday. Initial speeds were around 1.8 Mbps download, then later slowed to around 1mbps, likely due to all the demand. Every speed test I ran showed the iPad to be at least 20% faster than my iPhone 3G. Around midnight it began to speed up as people went to bed - at one point I had 3.2mbps download, which is excellent considering AT&Ts max theoretical speed right now is 3.6mbps. I have never had a speed over 2.2mbps on my iPhone.
Today I was using it in the car on a route I often take. One area along the drive is an AT&T dead zone - my iPhone always drops to "No Signal" as do any other AT&T phones. Despite this, my iPad held on to 4 bars and managed a 1mbps speed test in the heart of the dead zone. I also have found the WiFi on the 3G model to be slightly stronger than the wifi only model, presumably due to the plastic top which breaks the aluminum case.
I for one do not have any problem with AT&T restricting some of the video apps. The iphone was the same way and I wasn't expecting the iPad to be any different. All in all I am extremely satisfied with my purchase.

  • Menu drop downs don't drop down

When I click on the menu bar items, the drop downs don't always happen.
If I open a preference-- like date-time and make a change, then the drop downs start working again.
This happens some times after booting up and sometimes its OK. Once it does not work after boot, I have to make a change to a preference (just any change) to get it to work.
I am just concerned that this means something else-- that I don't see is not working correctly.
I do have Symantec antivirus running and its menu item is te only one that seems to always work (its the exception).
So how do I fix it.

First thing to try is to get rid of anything from Symantec.

  • Rentals/videos no longer have sound or Don't Rent Movies (Yet)

iTunes 7.6 has a bug which lets you play your movies, crystal clear, yet without sound. I am hoping someone can tell me how to fix this - but I suspect that we will have to wait until next week for an update.
That said, I need to find out how to get a refund before my 24 hours is up (clock is at 8 and counting)! How do I contact Apple to get my money back for lack of sound?

I've had the same problem and don't know where to turn, other than reporting the problem once I get my confirmation email.
Have you had any luck finding a resolution?

  • Is there a fix for the iPad2/iOS7 WiFi dropping issue yet?

After searching through Many threads regarding iPad2 Wi-Fi issues, I have found a lot of different "solutions" and I've tried them ALL but my Wi-Fi is STILL dropping out on me all the time. My iPad is running iOS version 7.1.2. I am constantly getting errors like
"We were unable to connect to the servers. Please try again later."
    or
    "Internet Connection Lost",
or i try to download an app and it just spins for a minute then acts as though nothing happened and the app never installs. I literally can't use any of my apps and the only way to reliably download them onto my iPad is to push it over from itunes with the ipad plugged in via usb after downloading it on my computer.
    I have tried:
1-Checking connection settings (airplane mode Off, wifi connected to correct secure home network, bluetooth Off, mobile data Off)
    2-rebooting ipad
3-making sure there's nothing running in the background by double-tapping the home button
4-removing an apostrophe from the ipad name.
5-putting the ipad into Airplane mode and then going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
6-going to Settings > Control Center and disable Access on Lock Screen then turning ipad off and on again.
    7-updating router firmware
8-doing a factory reset, then repeating steps 1 through 6
Any other ideas?? I really need to make this work! Any help will greatly appreciated.

8-doing a factory reset, then repeating steps 1 through 6
Do you mean a restore to factory settings?. If so did you set up as new or restore from back up afterwards?

  • Shared Devices Don't Drop After Disconnect

I fixed a double NAT issue by sacrificing my WNDR3700 router and turning it into nothing but an Access Point behind my Westell 9100em FiOS MOCA modem (LAN to LAN).
The problem is that now, *shared devices are hanging on the the network after they disconnect.* For instance after a reboot, my iMac renamed itself to 'iMac (2).' If I bootcamp into Windows7 and then boot back to OS X, the Windows 7 drive continues to appear as a shared device.... My gripe is about it changing my iMac name - not nice. My network includes ipods, iphones, Macs, PS3, PC, Sony BR player and DNS-323 NAS.
It is important to have a gigabit LAN/dual radio WIFI and 'back to my mac' functionality. The 9100em modem/router doesn't support gigabit ethernet or N wireless and 'back to my mac' will not work behind a double NAT. Figuring out how to bridge the 9100em has been exhausting and fruitless....
Does anyone have any insight? Terminal command to force confirmation of shared devices perhaps?
    Thanks

Interestingly, last night I watched a podcast through to the end. Then I went to watch it again and the Apple TV asked if I wanted to resume, after I selected resume, the final fraction of a second played and it was done. I tried that a couple times and each time the same thing happened. So, it seems that the Apple TV is just not registering that it has played the final blip of a podcast, at least with shared podcasts.

  • I'm new and don't get it yet. Please help with adding video to timeline.

Please give me direction with this.
I  created 5 swfs (simple, short animations) The swfs are named "movie1," "movie2," and so on. I want to import all 5 movie clips and thread them  together so that they play one after the other inside the timeline of a new Flash  Document. I am hoping to have "movie 1" play, stop,  have "movie 2" play, stop and so on until the 5th "movie plays then  stops (no looping necessary). It will be played on a Mac laptop and not online.
I've been fiddling with timeline actions for 2  days and can't figure how to lead one movie to the other. I've been using  Action Script 2 so far.
What I've done is create 5 layers (1 for each clip)
    "movie1" is on layer 1, frame 1
    "movie2" is on layer 2, frame 2
    "movie3" is on layer 3, frame 3
    "movie4" is on layer 4, frame 4
    "movie5" is on layer 5, frame 5
    Is this workable?
    Thanksk all.
    Al Naclerio

if you have swfs (and not movieclips), that probably won't work:   no actionscript in those swfs will work.  so, if you have any actionscript those swfs you'll need to "load" the swfs.

  • Drop Down Menus Don't Drop Down

I am having a problem with my Spry Menu Bar. (Using CS5). In my template, all of the submenu items of the menu bar show as being there and I can navigate through them. However, when I save the file so I can preview (using F12) it working on my homepage, the drop down items do not appear in the preview. When I move this to my live site folder, I fear they still will not drop down and mine is a page that has a lot in the drop down menus that needs to be accessible. Here is the code from the template:
