Don't Understand Wireless connection

If anyone can give me expert advice it would be greatly appreciated. I just received my new macbook but i don't know how to connect to the internet wirelessly? Do i need to buy an airport express or w/e it is? I connected to the internet by using my home computer's DSL Modem and connecting it to the macbook. But how do i connect wirelessly? THank you for your help.

Just to clarify, you don't have to buy an 802.11g router; an 802.11b router will also work..... although, buying anything that is solely 802.11b nowadays is pointless, as 802.11g equipment is just as accessible and closely priced.
In fact, it's those people out there that buy equipment (mainly the wireless NICs) that's only 802.11b compatible that hurt the progress of wireless technology, i.e., 802.11g being prominent. If 802.11b clients connect to 802.11g access points, they significantly lower the amount of bandwidth available to other clients... FYI.

  • Dear Steve, will anything be done about this wireless connectivity issue?

    This is no fun whatsoever....
I am telling you - browsing interenet on iMac is no fun, seriously.
I prepared a quick research for you:

People, help me in refining this list - did I leave something out?
P.S. I was thinking lately, why, after spending so much money, should I spend several days already, in agregate, trying to understand the issue and how it should be resolved? Have I not paid for not having such problems?

    Here is a lot more:
    http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/wirelessnetworking/topic4035.html
Highly interesting is the post of J.Exby which i reproduce here:
For months I've not been alone in holding to the notion that the airport client software on Mac OS X 10.4.x has been problematic and unstable in certain (noisy, crowded, channel overlapped) wireless environments. Issues littered around the Internet Mac forums include problems of networks appearing, then disappearing. This is a difficult problem to pin down, given the difficulty of reproducing the conditions that might cause wireless network dropouts.
A major symptom of the problem was seeing the constant messages of:
"An error occurred joining the AirPort network" (Try Again) (Cancel)
when attempting to connect to a wireless network, despite that network being seen, having correct security settings, etc.
Various temporary fixes/ideas floated around the mac community have included:
    - reseting pram, nvram and PMU
    - installing 10.4 from scratch, instead of 10.3 to 10.4 upgrade process
    - Repairing permissions, run Combo updaters, etc
    - putting system to sleep or reboot for temporary connection fix
    - applying AirPort 2005-001 patch (or not)
    - upgrading (or downgrading!) AirPort basestation firmware
    - changing AirPort channels
    - enabled (or disabling) Interference Robustness
    - disabling Bluetooth and BT peripherals
    - removing WEP/WPA passwords out of Keychain
    - running Keychain First Aid on user/login keychains
    - buying new AirPort extreme cards
    - replacing AirPort base stations with other vendor hardware, etc.
With the stability of our Windows XP clients now (after driver updates) and the change from Apple base stations to Belkin Wireless Pre-N Router having no appreciable benefit for our Mac notebooks, the OS X AirPort client software suspicions only grew.
    During troubleshooting I always have
    Applications--->Utilities--->Console
    and
    iStumbler (96)
running, and I watch output as wireless scans are performed.
From the Terminal I also run:
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Resources/airport -s
    and usually see constant
    AirPortScanner WirelessScan error -2013261821 airpInternalErr
    messages.
After two days of testing (and fixing?) I am even more convinced there are bugs in the powerpc 10.4.x AirPort Extreme Framework!
    This is what I found:
    Environment at our office:
    - wireless Network A (802.11g channel 1, WPA personal)
    - wireless Network B (802.11b channel 6, WEP 40bit ascii)
    - wireless Network C (802.11g channel 11, WPA personal)
(WAR-marching around our office exterior shows at least 12 outside wireless networks found at various signal strengths!)
    Test systems used:
    - iBook G4 (10.3.x and 10.4.5)
    - Powerbook G4 (10.4.5)
    - Intel iMac (10.4.5)
Primary symptom on iBook: networks not displaying long enough under the AirPort icon/menu (or Internet Connect) to connect to ANY network reliably! Perhaps connect to Network A intermittently, never even see Network C.
iStumbler showing some networks respond to poll, then immediately stagnate/disappear.
Primary symptom on Powerbook: stable connections to Network C most times, difficulty "switching" to Network B or A once moving closer to source. Usually stable "seeing" networks via AirPort menu icon, but still have occasional dropouts (due to fluctuating signal strength or interference?).
Primary symptom on Intel iMac: NO PROBLEMS! Can connect to (and steadily "see") all valid Networks A, B, C !
iStumbler constantly polls all available networks, with no dropouts.
    Steps taken:
    1. Wipe iBook hard drive, install 10.3 from dvd. AirPort signals unreliable.
1a. Perform all 10.3.x Software updates, Repair Permissions, reboot. AirPort still unreliable.
    2. Reset PRAM, nvram, PMU. no improvements.
    3. Reseat AirPort Extreme card, ensure antenna is firmly plugged in. AirPort still unreliable.
    4. Wipe iBook, install 10.4.3 "fresh" from Full retail version DVD. AirPort still unreliable.
4a. Perform all 10.4.5 Software (combo) updates, Repair Permissions, reboot. AirPort still unreliable.
    5. Hold down the Option key, and click on the AirPort icon in the menu bar.
    select About AirPort...
pay particular attention to each system showing:
    iBook: AirPort Framework 421.13.0
    powerbook: AirPort Framework 421.13.0
    intel iMac: AirPort Framework 426.1.0
Aha! A big difference with the AirPort Framework component version on the Intel iMac!
    6. So, using the Terminal let's get this newer Apple80211.framework onto the iBook.
    First on the intel iMac:
    cd /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
    sudo tar cf ~/intelApple80211frame.tar Apple80211.framework
Copy this intelApple80211frame.tar file onto a USB thumb drive, CDR, iPod, scp, etc. to copy it onto the iBook (home directory).
    7. With the tar file copied into the home area on the iBook, turn off iBook's AirPort via the menubar icon.
    Now launch Terminal and:
    mkdir backup-framework
    cd /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
    sudo mv Apple80211.framework ~/backup-framework/
    sudo tar xvpf ~/intelApple80211frame.tar
Launch Disk Utility, Repair Permissions on boot drive.
    Reboot iBook.
    8. Turn Airport on via the menubar icon.
iBook now has HUGE improvements in wireless connectivity! It can "see" all Networks A, B, C reliably and can connect to any of them when in range (having enough signal strength). Switching between networks is successful 90% of the time. Occasional message of:
"An error occurred joining the AirPort network (Try Again) (Cancel)"
usually works after clicking (Try Again), whereas before Try Again almost always failed.
I am unsure how this newer Apple80211.framework will affect future Software Updates on the iBook, but frankly I could care less now that it's able to access all of our wireless networks!
I am unsure if this is the magic-bullet solution for a majority of people, but I'm stunned that Apple appears to be providing new and improved Apple80211.framework software with the intel iMacs, but many of us have been fighting AirPort problems on PowerPC platforms for months!
Come on Apple, OS X 10.4.5 should contain the SAME software component versions for ALL CPU platforms!

  • I dont understand those connection pools?

Does anyone have a really clear example on how to set up a connection pool in my controler Servlet's init() method, and how I can access that pool, and pick up a connection from within my dbConnect Bean. If this is not a proper setup, please comment. Because I'm lost.
I've been struggling for a while with setting up a pool, and used the com.javaexchange.dbConnectionBroker package. It is possible to make my dbConnect bean a servlet, and make it the supercalss of my controler, so the controler inherits the global pool. But can I call methods in the dbConnect servlet from my controler servlet?
I just want to have some input before I throw the entire thing around again.

Create a servlet that will instantiate dbConnectionbroker or whatever connection pool. Initalize list of connection thru that and load it. And then pre-load this servlet in servlet container.
To access or get a connection from pool, get pre loaded servlet from conatainer and then get instance of connection pool manager and then get the connection from it.
I hope this works for you....

  • Can this be done? Airport extreme connected wireless in extend mode to connect a wireless Mac Pro with an ethernet cable from the extended airport extreme..

Can this be done? Airport extreme connected wireless in extend mode to connect a wireless Mac Pro with an ethernet cable from the extended airport extreme.

This will work.....IF....you also have an Apple AirPort router configured to provide your wireless network.
In other words, you need to have two Apple AirPort routers to extend a wireless network.
When the AirPort Extreme is configured to "extend" the wireless of the "main" AirPort, it will provide more wireless coverage and the Ethernet ports are enabled, so you could connect your Mac Pro to any of the Ethernet ports and use that as a network and Internet connection.

  • I have done the softer update and now this system request a connection with a meanie HD and I connector for iTunes I don't understand why ?

I have done the softer update and now this system request a connection with a Mini  HDMI  connector for iTunes I don't understand why ?
DO I HAVE TO HAVE THE MINI HDMI CONNECTOR TO COMPLETE THE SOFTER UPDATE PROCESS ?

You might be seeing a Micro USB cable (Not HDMI) that is because your Apple Tv is in Recovery Mode due to some reason and it needs to be Restored by connecting it to iTunes on your Computer. So if you have a Micro USB cable ( which comes with Android Smart Phones ) then try to connect your Apple Tv to your computer using the same and with the help of iTunes Restore your Apple Tv to Factory Settings. Go through the below Apple Support kb which says " If your Apple TV still does not respond or if you were unable to follow the above steps "

  • I have a first gen iPad, and it will randomly go home from the Internet when I don't press any button.  I have a wireless connection at home.

I have a first gen iPad, and it will randomly go home from the Internet when I don't press any button.  I have a wireless connection at home.  Is this a known bug?  What can I do?

You maybe running low on memory since you are using the original iPad with iOS 5.1.1 and the iPad is crashing. This may help and it certainly won't hurt.
Quit all apps completely and reboot the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
Do this before you launch Safari again. Go to Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data. You don't have to clear the history.

hmm, well I would say that raises the possibility of an issue with your ipad, and lessens one with your router.

Want to stream Netflix to blueray player via my existing Airport Express wifi. The player finds my wifi but the wireless connection fails - says, " Ensure DHCP server is enabled on router and restart router." I don't think I have a DHCP server. Suggestions anyone?

I can't speak specifically regarding LG, but the Whole Home feature on Direct TV (record a movie on one DVR and watch it on another TV in another location) just won't work with wireless, and I have a strong fast connection at 300 Mbps. Ethernet works perfectly.
Few audio/video products will accept "n" wireless at 5 GHz. I suspect that your LG accepts a 2.4 GHz signal, which would top out at 130 Mpbs.
If you are trying to stream High Definition video, especially at 1080P, my opinion would be that it is unlikely that you will be able to do so reliably using wireless.
Perhaps another user who has figured out how to do this will post with some input.

  • PhotoSmart 310a doesn't print using wireless connection

First... I have to say that if I had known what a HUGE pain in the butt this printer was I would never have bought it.  On top of that, the thing apparently doesn't have an option to "hard wire" connect it to my computer... which the guy at the store didn't bother to point out.  On top of that HP's customer service is, apparently, non-existent, as attempts to reach by phone are useless.
They can't even seem to get the model number on the machine where you can find it... so the instructions on "how to find your model number" are useless.
That said... here is my problem... which if I can't fix, I'm simply returning this and getting something else.
I have my printer all set up.  Wireless is set up.  ePrint is set up.  Test pages print fine.
I have actually been successful printing with it ONE time.... so I know that it can do it.
It does give me a "low signal" message - however it seems to have no problem printing using the email option, or downloading from the web for the "reports."   It scans and my laptop "sees" the scanned image, which is transmitted over the wireless network.   If it is truly a low signal problem it seems like it would have issues with other functions regarding the internet.
BUT... when I send something from my laptop (MacBook OSX 10.5.8) to the printer it says...
    .. connecting
    .. idle
    .. priinting (%)
.. then the print job disappears from the queue in the dialog box ... yet nothing actually prints out.
.. it then say's "Printer Ready" - I guess ready for another print job that it won't perform.
.. It does NOT give any kind of error code... say it's "paused" or anything like that.  It's as if it THINKS it is printing... but it does not.  It makes no sound like it's trying to print either.  Paper is loaded in fine and it will print test pages with no problem and doesn't indicate any problems on those other than "low signal"
... When I use the "printer utility" to print a test page - also goes wireless - it prints just fine.
I've tried to use this printer only 4 times now for various jobs... and each time has been an ordeal lasting from 30 minutes to several hours.    I've managed to get it to print on one occasion... though I can not remember how I did it.
It has NO problem printing from an email... so I guess I could just always do it that way... but it involves several extra steps to do so and I'm not even sure it would work for every type of print job I need.
    It works fine scanning
    It works fine photocoping
It works fine printing from ePrint (email)
It just DOES not print via the wireless connection
I don't understand how a company can make something this sophisticated and not have it give you an ERROR CODE when it fails to complete a function... and frankly, I'm fed up with this thing.  It's a big, oversized, shiny paperweight and I've wasted way too much of my time trying to figure it out.  This is one last ditch effort.
Can anyone help?    THANKS so much if you can!
    Sue

It is more likely a network problem, so please tell me about your network - router brand/model, encryption type (WEP, WPA, etc) and ISP type (DSL, Cable, etc).
In the mean time, you could try this quick trick; resetting the printing system:
    - Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
    - Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
Oh, and indeed this printer does have a USB port for connection directly to your computer.  It does NOT have an Ethernet port for connection directly to your router.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • How do I wirelessly connect my iPad 4 to a Sony Bravia TV?

The iPad Settings shows the " direct -GC-Bravia" other connection, but it wants to revert to my (John Lewis wireless connection.
If I tap on the other, Bravia panel I am asked for a password. I don't have a password for it and never have had. If I try to use my Apple password or that of my Sony support log-in or even my LAN home group , the iPad just messages:-  "Unable to connect to Diect-GC-Bravia"
I seem to go round in circles and get nowhere- Can anyone out there who has an iPad 4 (retina display AND a Sony Bravia TV help me please?
Maybe even a Sony employee? who owns a similar iPad?
    Davidthebass.

You dont.  Apple won't allow widely used standards and Sony is so behind the times in this area it's painful and almost as bad.  Apple forces you to buy an Apple TV whereas Sony forces you to own an android phone to do this natively.  Surprise!
disappointed I started my smartphone tenure with Apple; had no idea how badly it was going to burn me in about 100 different ways over the years.  All they have on android these days is more efficient hardware...: and since they don't take advantage of it... It's a moot point at the price premium.
as for Sony.  I just spent more than I did on my last car for their flagship and id be satisfied if it costed about 75% less and wasn't a "smart" TV.  Since it is - and this is 2015; the cost coupled with the inability to properly stream or mirror from.... Meh.  Not gonna waste another word.  If neither get it by now, they never will.  Talk with your wallet guys, it's the only language they understand.  Unfortunately they are wise enough to know the sheep outnumber dramatically so it's in vain anyhow.

  • HP Officejet 6500A Plus will not maintain wireless connection reliably

For the HP EXPERTS on Expert Day, April 18, 2012:
B.L.A.T. (Bottom Line At Top):  We have an HP Officejet 6500A Plus purchased about 5 months ago.  We wanted to use it as a wireless-connected printer in another room besides our home office.  It is useless to us because it will not maintain its wireless connection, even sitting just a few feet from the router in the same room.  Except for numerous hours of troubleshooting, we have left it sitting powered up, but unused and idle, for almost the entire 5 months in our home office.  DURING ALL THAT IDLE TIME, IT HAS LOGGED OVER 3,200 DISCONNECTS, at a consistent rate of 24 disconnects every 24 hours, even though it ALWAYS reports that the wireless signal quality is “EXCELLENT” (all this is according to the Wireless Network Test Reports we’ve printed throughout the last 5 months).  So our question is, what is it that this printer is trying to do once an hour over a wireless connection that is causing these thousands of disconnects?  And how can we stop it?
NOTE!  Before you round up the usual suspects (namely our router and our PC firewalls) please note that we also bought an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus ON THE SAME DAY as the Officejet 6500A Plus.  The 8600 was also installed with a wireless connection, and has worked without a single network issue for the entire 5 months.
NOW, FOR THE REST OF THE STORY…
WHO WE ARE:  My wife and I have worked on HP equipment for 33 years, starting in 1979 as corporate customers of HP when we worked for Exxon; then we both worked for HP directly for 17 years; and we’ve now used dozens of pieces of HP equipment in our home during the last 12 years in retirement.  We’re primarily software folks, so we’re not exactly experts in hardware and networking, but on the other hand, this ain’t our first rodeo either.
    OUR CONFIGURATION:
PC’s – All running Windows 7 x64 with all important patches applied and Norton Internet Security 2012:  HPE-270f and HP AIO 200-Quad, each with full 6500A and 8600A drivers installed on wireless connection.  These 2 PC’s themselves can connect either wirelessly or via Ethernet to our home network.  The 270f has a dual-band wireless board.  Both bands work.  We also have a new dv7t laptop with only the full 6500A driver installed via wireless connection.  The laptop is now upstairs and it’s connected to our home network wirelessly without any issues.  (This is where we had hoped to also put the 6500A, but it needs to work reliably via wireless connection.)
ROUTER:  Netgear N600 WNDR3700 providing Ethernet and wireless networking.  Router provides a very strong wireless signal throughout the house.  No wireless problems with any other equipment including an iPod, two Kindle Fires besides all the HP equipment.
PRINTERS:  Besides the two HP printers, the HPE-270f PC has a Canon MP960 installed on it.  And if we can’t get the 6500A working right or replaced with something that does work right, we may be buying our second Canon printer.  By the way, on the 6500A, ePrint and App’s are set to ON, but of course they’re not being used, just like everything else on this AIO.
OTHER:  We also have a Sonos music system that connects to our network via Ethernet and has its own proprietary mesh network (on another frequency) for transmitting ripped music wirelessly to speaker units throughout our house.  (If you aren’t familiar with this totally cool system, check out sonos.com).  We’ve never seen any evidence of interference between these two wireless networks, or our wireless phone sets either.
HP TOOLS AVAILABLE ON ALL 3 PC’s:  HPU
    UPDATE 5.003.001.001 (reporting everything up-to-date); HPHDU 3.1.0.17; HPPDU 5.0.0.015 and HPNDU 4.3.0.002.
SYMPTOMS:  The 6500A Plus installs quickly and easliy, and connects wirelessly just fine during installation.  But sometime over the next hour (usually less), it disconnects and won’t print from PC applications.  Sometimes the application puts up an “Unable to communicate with printer” screen, even though the PC usually thinks the printer is “ready”.  Other times, the PC thinks the printer is offline (but printers don’t have “offline” buttons anymore!).  Often, if you just leave everything alone, the 6500A will somehow reconnect and print out the spooled file 5-30 MINUTES later.  So it does usually seem to be able to recover given some time, but that doesn’t always fit our schedule!   Occasionally, turning the wireless radio on the printer off and back on will fix it right away.  But usually, you have to power the printer completely off, and then back on.  As far as we know, that always fixes it…..until the next disconnect a few minutes later!
PREVIOUSLY TRIED:  After reading some of HP’s wireless network support websites, I manually assigned a fixed IP address to this printer.  It didn’t seem to matter; according to the wireless network test report, it still logs disconnects at the rate of one per hour, and all the failure symptoms were the same.
We also dabbled a bit with setting this printer as “trusted” to the Firewall, but that didn’t seem to matter either.
Next, we connected the printer via Ethernet.  The printer immediately started to work, even though it had just been in its “failed” state over the wireless connection.  As far as we know, it never failed while connected via Ethernet.  This seems to point to a purely wireless hardware/firmware problem on the printer itself.
Late last year, I tried two different chat sessions about this with the inter-continental AIO support teams, each one lasting several hours.  Unfortunately, none of their optimistic solution scripts seemed to fit our problem.  They both seemed determined to reconfigure the 6500A as a TCP/IP printer, which of course worked fine initially, just like everything else.  At this point, they would understandably want to close the chat.  But 20-30 minutes later, we could no longer print to it.  During the second chat, they got into one of our PC’s remotely and effectively turned off the spooler (by selecting “Print Directly” or something like that).  After that, all was well again (as usual) UNTIL the printer disconnected, at which time attempting to print from that PC would HANG the application (since the spooler was no longer buffering) and eventually hang the whole PC.  One giant leap backwards.  That’s when I gave up on the multi-hour chat sessions.
The three diagnostic utilities (HDU, PDU, NDU) have been tried over and over.  When the printer is in its disconnected state, the DU’s usually don’t detect the 6500A at all, or if they do detect it, they are unable to fix anything.  Frankly, it’s easier to just power the printer off (which takes about a minute) and power the printer back on (which takes more than a minute) and then wait for the spooler to kick in (usually about 30 seconds).  BUT WE DON’T CONSIDER THAT A SOLUTION!!
B.L.A.B.  (Bottom Line At Bottom):  We have used up nearly the entire black ink cartridge and at least a ream of paper troubleshooting this brand new printer, to no avail.  This printer is useless to us unless it can maintain a wireless connection reliably.  Please help!

I bought the Officejet 6500A Plus about one month and have experienced the very same problem. I tried to remedy this problem following suggestions in a number of different posts (static IP, router, firewalls etc), all to no avail. Last week I called support. The support I received by the tech over several hours and different days for a week was very good. However none of his suggestions corrected the connection issue. After today's recommended fix failed, he advised HP is aware of this issue with the 6500 and other affected printers. He claimed HP was working on a firmware upgrade. He did not know when the update would be provided. The tech also claimed HP acknowledged this problem in a written announcement. He agreed to email the announcement to me. I haven't received it. This has been the only problem I've had with the 6500

  • Want to Start Backing-Up and Would Like a Wireless Connection

I will try to explain my question as simple as I can, but my tech knowledge is not the best, so please bare with me. As I said in the heading I would like to start backing up my MBP (something I never have done) and I would like to use a 3.5-4 year-old Airport Extreme I have had for 4 years but never really used it much. I have a new MBP so I would like to understand what some of the basic terms mean first.
In the dock I have an icon called Time Machine. I saw a device that looked like my Airport Extreme at the Apple Store, but I think the guy said it was called an Apple Capsule. He also said the Apple Capsule can do great back-ups and also "get you up and running on a wireless internet connection." Although I did not check out the costs of all the stuff I would need, I wanted to get an experts guidance on what is what and what I would need to use the program I already have called Time Machine. The Airport Extreme I have is square has several ethernet port ports in the back a WAN port and a light in the front that can turn various colors depending on the status of the Wireless connection.
I am not sure if the Airport Extreme I have is still OK to use, safe enough, all of that stuff since technology changes so much in a short amount of time. So I was also looking at the LaCie Rugged Hard Disk Triple also 500 GB capacity option and if my 3.5 or 4 year-old Airport Extreme will work just fine use that and the LaCie.
I am alos trying to understand the difference between the icon on my dock called Time Machine, the Time Capsule, and what I would need counting what my MBP came with (The Time Machine for sure).
I think I got all the basic questions out for starters, and please let me know if you need any additional info if you need any additional info.
I should add when I first connected up the Airport Extreme when I finally got the nerve to call Applecare for help hooking up the Airport Extreme approx 3.5-4 years ago. the lady who was in Canada was very good but the process seemed quite complicated and that could have been because that was the first real complicated set-up I had done using my new MBP at that time. It seemed a lot of the complications came with all the passwords, security questions I had to remember, long numbers, etc. But since I knew nothing about Macs at that time it probably had a lot do do with that.
I am open for constructive criticisms and help but if you have a need to knock someone down please go elsewhere. I tried my hardest to explain what I need help with and when I decided to come to my favorite place for help, I came hoping I would not get a bunch of put-downs like has happened in the past.
thanks in advance for your help.

I appreciate your help. I understand now that Time Machine is software. What I do not understand is it software to be used with Time Capsule? Another device?
Apple intends Time Machine to be used to write its backup files to (a) a directly-connected (as via USB or FireWire) external or secondary internal disk or (b) the disk in a Time Capsule. All other configurations are officially unsupported.
I have not purchased the LaCie device yet. it seemed cool.
As a Time Machine target drive I imagine that the LaCie drive is fine for a directly-connected drive (option "a" above), but is not recommended for use when connected to a WiFi base station.
at the time I wrote this post, I had no idea that the Time Capsule was an Airport Extreme too
Apple doesn't call it that, but except for the disk drive it's functionally equivalent.
I appreciate your feedback on how to avoid some of the smart *** and mean comments I frequently get. I do not agree with most of what you wrote because although I post a post or Question(s), but I do not ask any specific person to answer or help me.
True, but that's not my point. When you post a question on a forum such as this, you do so with the hope that someone will reply with useful advice. To do that someone has to read your post to determine what advice to give you. So anyone who has any thought of helping you has to first read your post, which involves a certain commitment of time.
Frequently I do not get any answers or replies. it is their decision to try and help me or not. If they do not like the way the question(s) is worded or expressed in writing, they do not have to even attempt to answer it. That is what I never understood. The negative criticism would come with their first reply, but I did not even ask any specific person to help me.
It's hard to comment without seeing your post and the reply, but perhaps those people were just trying to help you (clumsily, perhaps) learn how to write better-behaved posts.
I do agree with putting too much info. in a post. I do try to keep it clear and concise, but that is very hard for me. So I appreciate your comment about that, because I do think I do have a tendency to write too much at times. I think it is great that there are people who like or want to do this, for whatever reason.
