Don't want my Flash videos to starting loading until play
I have Flash videos on a website, and I don't want the video to start loading until the user has hit the play button. How do I do that?
Joey
http://toadarray.com
I'm using the 'skinoverplaystopseekmutevol' skin for my videos. I have it set so the video doesn't start to play right away, but it loads right away - I don't want that to start until the user clicks play. I have created the video in an AS3 file, but I haven't added any AS to it - just used the component.
Here is the video:

Flash Video Won't Open and Play in Online Site
When I upload my Flash Video files to the online server, the HTML page opens but the Flash Video doesn't open and play. If I open the HTML page in preview mode in Dreamweaver CS5, the HTML page opens and the Flash Video plays OK. I have tried using the Adobe Media Encoder to produce the FLV file as well as tried exporting the FLV from Adobe Premiere CS 5.5, but neither makes any difference. The Flash Video still doesn't play when files are uploaded to the site online. I have also tried using different versions of Flash Professional to create and publish the SWF movie file, but nothing I try seems to make the Flash Video open and play online. The test site I have set up is http://www.hgatest.org then you can click the “video” link to open the Flash Video. Video HTML page URL is http://www.hgatest.org /video.html You can then see what I am talking about. Please help. This just started happening about 6 months ago and it has been driving me crazy. Any ideas will be helpful. Thanks, Joe K.

Hi,
I'm having a problem getting some flash video files to load.
So far it's affecting 2 files located on these pages:
Martin
O'Brien movie and
John
Gormley movie
The .flv files are being hosted on amazon s3. I have done
several things so far to try to figure out why they aren't loading:
* Having the .swf file in the same folder as the web page
(doesn't work)
* Inserting a different .flv file from a different folder in
amazon s3 (doesn't work)
* Changing file permissions (doesn't work)
* Linking to the .flv file in same manner from a different
site on same ISP (video does work)
* Embedding .swf file in a html file instead of a php file
(doesn't work)
I can only guess that it's something specific to the
www.bmfconferences.com site. As I said i've tried the same .flv
file on a different site with the same ISP (it says Bruce Robinson
but it's the John Gormley video file (
John
Gormley movie on different site) and this works, but I don't
know what else to look for to get the files to work on the bmf
site.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Louise.Hi All
I found the solution!... I had to add the MIME type .flv =
video/x-flv to my web server (Windows 2003).
Thank anyway

When I try to play a slide containing a flash video the following error message appears: "The flash video cannot be loaded. The output may not be proper." The file is a flash file that was converted in AME. What might be preventing this video from loading?
I had this happen once and even though the
property panel looked correct, I deleted
the video from the slide and added it back in.
I was able to then play the video. -
Flash Video Looks great when i play localy but is very grainy when played from a server
What could be going on that would cause my flash video to look terriable when played off a server, but look great when played localy?
the clip is encoded in f4v and is about 3 min long, when i test it i use the same html file and browser, the only thing that changes is, local vs serverhere is a link to the clip the issue really stands out at about 19 sec into the clip where there are some animated lines that flow around http://www.autical.net/saver/
below i added screen shots the top one is the local and the bottom one is the server
i guess i used the term grainy incorrectly, i should have said blocky -
I don't want to import video clips from iPhoto!
iMovie automatically imports video clips from iPhoto, and I don't need or want this to be done. I don't want to delete or move those clips from iPhoto, so is there a way to prevent the automatic transfer?
Go to your Hotmail account on the web (NOT in mail), make a new folder (or folders) for the mail you want to keep and move the messages into it.
Mail (and all other email clients) will download all messages in the inbox unless previously downloaded. That means downloaded with the client you are attaching now.
Until that is done do not setup the account in mail. -
Firefox crashes as soon as Flash video tries to load and Safari shows the error "Plug-in Failure"
I am unable to use Youtube or view Flash video on any sites.
Firefox crashes/quits as soon as a video tries to load and Safari shows the error "Plug-in Failure".
I have uninstalled Flash, downloaded a fresh version and installed, but no joy.
I am using OS X 10.6.6.
This is what I have tried so far;
1. Repaired Permissions.
2. Restarted with external drive and run Disk repair.
3. Restarted with external drive and run DiskWarrior.
4. Completely uninstalled Flash plugin. Robooted. Reinstalled Flash plugin. Rebooted.
5. I even installed an earlier version of the plugin to see if there was some incompatibility with the latest version.
6. Created a new user login and tried from there. Same problem.
Any ideas?You have what is necessary for Flash Player to be working. Firefox had some issues last year but it was after loading a video or the website. I had not heard of it lately and even last year don't recall it happening on the Macs.
What is happening with yours sounds like a direct conflict with some addon/extension.
Here is the link from Firefox describing what happened last year. You might want to see if there is anything more current.
https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/The%20Adobe%20Flash%20plugin%20has%20crashed?s=Firefo x+crashing+browser&as=s
I'll get the Mac troubleshooting guide in a minute and post it also.
Any adblock or popup blocker software would cause this also.
Thanks,

I have the following system:
Windows 7 Professional
All up to date updates
Flash player: 11.9.900.152
I want to use google chrome as my main browser- **but let me be clear this issue also happens in the updated IE**
I have updated everything possible, cleared the cache and cookies, turned the windows firewall off, disabled the chrome built in player, disabled every pluggin, tried them one by one, turned off the pop up blocker, tried making exceptions in the pop up blocker and still nothing.
The odd youtube video will play which makes it even more mind boggling...
NFL.com and nhl.com videos do not load whatsoever.
Youtube videos do not load 98% of the time
Any ideas?? please help- losing my mind!Yes the flash shows up on that link.
see below for a screen shot of one video that recently randomly worked.
that's another thing I don't understand is some of the ads will work as well but then when the video tries to play it says there is an error.
Nfl.com just goes straight to a grey screen if I click to watch a video -

Flash Video Skin Not Loading in Firefox
Hello everyone, I'm having a bit of trouble with a Flash
Video file. I'm helping a friend out by doing some work on his
webpage. He had a video that he wanted to put up on his news page,
so I converted the video to an flv and used the flv player
component to make a video player linked it. I uploaded the skin's
swf file, the player's swf file, and the flv to the same directory.
I made an iframe pointing to the player.swf file in the news
section of the site. I tested it in IE; it works like a charm.
Video loads, skin loads, and it plays etc... but in any version of
firefox, only the video loads and just sits there (autoplay is
off). What can the problem be? Link : (should work in IE, not
FIREFOX
Here .
Once you can recover from the reporter's amusing slack-jawed mug,
please help me out!Actually, this occurred to me later this afternoon, but I use Gentoo, which normally builds from source (cuz I am hardcore like that). I uninstalled the normal build and reinstalled the prebuilt binary and everything works. I am happy again and just need to play around with the source build options, which I can do later.
Thanks! -
So I have a problem loading pretty much any flash videos in
both Firefox and IE. The video will load to a certain point and
then stop, and nothing I do will get it load further, not even
refreshing the page. I have to close out of the browser and get
back to it to have any chance of watching more. On YouTube, I can
sometimes click further on to make it start loading from there, and
even that stops working eventually. It's really, really annoying,
and I'm pretty sure it's something with Flash and not Java. Anyone
else have this?Uninstall Flash
Download OnyX and run all the checks, maintaince and cleaning aspects and reboot at the end.

I am wanting this to improve the initial download speed of the page. I have already added a Poster Frame to video's, however it still seems to be loading the video file and just autoplaying. Is there a way to NOT load the video file until the person hits play? This is the AS3 script I used...
import fl.video.VideoEvent;
myPoster.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, playMovie);
function showPosterFrame(event:Event):void {
myPoster.visible = true;
function hidePosterFrame(event:Event):void {
myPoster.visible = false;
function playMovie(event:MouseEvent):void {
myVideo.play();
myVideo.addEventListener(VideoEvent.PLAYING_STATE_ENTERED, hidePosterFrame);
myVideo.addEventListener(VideoEvent.COMPLETE, showPosterFrame);
I am using Dreamweaver to put the pages together via the Insert - Media - Flash...then putting the .swf file in the page.
Thanks,
Arguiloyou can start the video and then stop it. it will continue to download (which you can monitor). when the time is right, you can enable the video's play button. before the video's ready to start, you can entertain your users.

I don't want my flash menu to reload on every page
Hi everyone,
I have a website that I am working on where I have a menu
made in flash, the menu expands when you select a category item and
executes a hyperlink when you click on a particular item within the
category.
This hyperlink load a new page and reloads the flash menu
which causes the option pre-selected to get lost and you have to
select again the category item and item over an over again.
It is good to mention that I want to stay away from Frameset.
Is there a way to load a particular part of the site instead
of the while site, so my menu selection stays the same?
I read about <DIV ID=", BASE, REL and REV and they don't
seem to work for me. Is there a sample code that I can look at to
have better understanding of it?
Thank you in advance.A good way to make it so it does not reload on every page is
to make a IFrame and make the target link of the flash buttons go
to the Iframe ("
http://staggdesigns.com" ,
"_TARGETFRAME") that will work -
Don't understand how flash video works
I hate to bother you guys here but I'm trying to convert a
quicktime video to flash. When into flash professional, brought the
video in just as the directions say, exported the video as a file,
not as and html page or what ever.
I get a flash file thats like 35K on my desk top and click it
and it plays. This is a much much bigger video file. Does the flash
file just link to the actual video file? Seems that that must be
what needs to be done. I know that when I click on the file if I've
mover the qt file to another folder - nothing happens.
What is the best way to create the smallest size quicktime
file that would work with this situation. The place holder is
280x190 . I'm tired, but keep trying though. Any help or place for
additional reading?You don't say which version of Flash you have, but here's a
Good Practice page from Adobe for Flash 8, which gives guidelines
on compressing video.
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/flash8_bestpractices_06.html
In QT Pro, the Help articles will guide you through the
various compression choices, for both Video and Audio. They open
under Options when you choose a format for Export, probably AVI or
other format Flash will be able to import. You may have to
experiment with bit rate choices, to see how quality changes.
I don't do video, but the other day I had a 4.5 MB MP3 sound
track I couldn't safely compress further. I added it to my Flash
movie, exported, and was startled to find it all played at high
quality, totalling 400 kbs, less than half a MB. But I first set
the option to streaming. So Flash itself will do some
compressing.
