Doubt in a query

Hello,
i want a query that just displays the department_id which has the maximum number of employees with their count
that is ... just a single record ..from employees table. ??
well i tried this query but m getting the whole set from this ...
select department_id, count(employee_id) tot
from employees
group by department_id;
