Downgrade Fios TV to Select... still use WatchESPN app?

I am currently a Prime subscriber.
If I downgrade to Select, (with no ESPN) will I still be able to use the watchESPN app on my ipad and iphone, since I am still a Fios customer?
Thanks

You can still use Watch ESPN.  You need to have Verizon internet service to watch ESPN.  I have Fios Local and internet and can watch ESPN 3 games on xbox or iPhone.

  • Can you still use these Apps?

I have an update for an app that is already on my iPAD. The app's update is for iOS 7. Can I still use such an app on my iPAD just the way it is (in its current version) or do I have to update my iPAD's software  to continue using the app. I mean, as long as the app is already on my iPAD, it shoild still work OK, right?

The copy of it will continue to work, but if it interfaces with the developer's website, that part of it may eventually stop working if it's not updated.

  • Can I still use downloaded apps on iPad if it is deactivated?

I have an iPad through work and need to download apps. One is over $200. My supervisor wants to use her personal iTunes account to do this since the agency doesn't have one set up yet. My concern is that if she ever switches jobs and deactivates this work iPad from her account, will I still access to the apps? Work has purchased iTunes gift cards to be used to purchase the apps. Can't I just set up a new account without entering a credit card number?

It's probably best to go the gift card route.  If she downloads the app using her ID, the app will always be tied to that ID. The app can then only be updated using her ID.

  • Can I use Extreme with Time Capsule to extend my gateway router and still use Capsule as "external HD"?

Bought Airport Extreme with Time Capsule version 7.7.2 with 2 Terabytes Feb 2014. It was probably an expensive mistake, but after searching for weeks for a external hard drive, it seemed reasonably priced to just use the capsule as my external hard drive for the price I paid. Spend an hour with Apple Care to get it working-had to use ethernet cord to my iMac OS 10.8.5 processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5. I did not "need" the airport as we have a Winstream SAGEMCOM modem/router (Sagemfast 1704) But, I was desperate and about to lose my old external hard drive with literally had 3 computers worth of information on it. It had already "died" once, but got it back, so once I got the airport/capsule and was told I just paid for an expensive HD, I had no time to take it back to get something else-I had to transfer my info right then. We (Apple Care) could not get it to work as a HD wirelessly. It may be because it was being set up for the first time; I don't know. I was hoping I would get a transcript of all done so I could do it myself if needed later on, but when I looked at my email-they didn't do that. (Don't know if that is normal, I was used to other "techs" sending the email.) So now I really want to try to move my airport and "extend" our wifi as it said on the "box" that you could do...
Our Windstream router had to be placed in the lower level at the bottom of our stairs. The stairway is "open" (no door going down the steps). I want to place the Extreme at the top of the stairs so that we can use some things in our offices or not have Netflix on our TV lose connectivity when we all are on our computers.
I know I need an ethernet cord to connect directly with the modem/router to the Airport Extreme.  I don't know what I will need to do after I connect it as it was so goofy when we set it up the first time (With the app it would disappear and not show up..) But my biggest concern is will I be able to still use the capsule as my hard drive and will I be able to do it wirelessly? (Even with it connected by ethernet, every day I have to re-connect to it before I can click on anything on the hard drive. It never shows up on it's own as my old HD did. That drives me nuts.) I do back up using the Time Capsule feature as well. I appreciate any help.

I am still willing to plug in the ethernet cord to the modem/router and try it IF I was able to get a step by step instructions..
Connecting the Time Capsule (TC) to the existing Winstream by Ethernet would be the basis for a roaming type network. This type of network allows you to basically "roam" with a wireless client and connect to either router. This, in essence, would provide you with an "extended" wireless network. The Apple routers can work with just about any manufacturers' routers in this fashion.
The keys to having a successful roaming network are as follows:
The routers must be interconnected by Ethernet.
Both routers will broadcast their own Wi-Fi network, but MUST use the same Network Name (or SSID), wireless security type (WPA or WPA2), and wireless password.
The TC MUST be reconfigured as a bridge.
Connect a single Ethernet cable between one of the Winstream's LAN ports and the WAN (circle of dots) port on the TC.
    The basic steps are:
    Power-down the Winstream.
Perform a "factory default" reset on the TC. Leave the TC powered-down after the reset has completed.
Connect the TC to the Winstream using an Ethernet cable.
Power-up the Winstream. Wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it to initialize.
Power-up the TC. Wait at least 5 minutes to allow it to initialize. (Note: Since we just reset the TC it will be performing as a wireless router that will be broadcasting an unsecured Wi-Fi network with a Network Name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN)
Connect your computer to the Winstream's Wi-Fi network.
Run the AirPort Utility. select the TC, and then, select Edit.
    Go to the Network tab.
Change the Router Mode option to: Off (Bridge Mode)
    Select the Wireless tab.
Verify that the Network Mode option is set to: Create a wireless network
For Wireless Network Name, enter the Wi-Fi network name used by the Winstream.
For Wireless Security, select the equivalent security type that is used by the Winstream. (Note: Use "WPA/WPA2 Personal" if the Winstream is using WPA/TKIP. Use "WPA2 Personal" is the Winstream is using WPA2/AES.
For Wireless Password, enter the same password used by the Winstream.
Select Update and allow the TC to restart.
As far as your external HD, yes you should still be able to use it as before.

  • I share a photo stream with a family member. Is there a way to make it so we have separate photo stream but still use the same apple id?

i share a photo stream with a family member. Is there a way to make it so we have separate photo stream but still use the same apple id?

You'll want a separate iCloud account for each user in addition to the main Apple ID used for purchases.
Let's say you have a family of four (husband, wife, and two children). Here is what you will need:
Main Apple ID for shared purchases in Tunes (everybody will be using this)
iCloud (Apple ID) account for husband
iCloud (Apple ID) account for wife
iCloud (Apple ID) account for child 1
iCloud (Apple ID) account for child 2
Yes, you can have both an Apple ID and iCloud account setup on the same device. On each iOS device, setup the main Apple ID account for the following services:
iCloud (Photo Stream and Backup are the only items selected here).
    Music Home Sharing
    Video Home Sharing
    Photo Stream
Additionally, on each iOS device, add a new iCloud account (Under Mail, Contacts, Calendar) that is unique to each user for the following services:
    Mail (if using @me.com)
    Contacts
    Calendars
    Reminders
    Bookmarks
    Notes
    Find My iPhone
    Messages
    Find Friends
    FaceTime
On your individual Macs (or Mac accounts), use the main Apple ID in iTunes. Then, use the unique iCloud account in/for iCloud.
Now that everbody is using separate iCloud accounts for your contacts, calendars, and other things, it will be all be kept separate.
The only thing that is now 'shared' would be iTunes content (apps and other purchases), backups via iCloud (if enabled), and Photo Stream (if enabled).

  • Can I stream a movie from my Macbook to my Apple TV on one display, and still use my Macbook for other things?

I have a Macbook Pro and an Apple TV. What I'd like to do is stream a movie from my CinemaNow Account to my television by using my Apple TV and my Macbook. I know that I can do this my using the mirroring feature, however then I can no longer use my Macbook for anything else because my TV will only display what is on the screen of my Macbook. Now with this is mind, what then is the point of having multiple displays through the use of my Apple TV, if only one display can be used at a time unless they both show the same image? Or is there a way for me to be able to stream the movie to my TV and still use my Macbook for other purposes (multi-tasking)?

To enable a second display over AirPlay, you first need to be connected to the same network as your Apple TV. Next, open System Preferences > Displays, and select your Apple TV from the “AirPlay Display” drop-down menu.
Once you do this, your display may flash as the second display connection is acquired, and the Apple TV takes over as the second display. If the displays are mirrored, then you can correct this by opening the “Arrangement” tab in System Preferences > Displays, and ensuring that the “Mirror Displays” checkbox is unchecked.
In this same “Arrangement” tab, you can move the displays around in the pane to ensure that they're positioned correctly, relative to your physical space (usually side-by-side, or top-down). The primary display here is denoted here by the Menu bar on the display. The arrangement helps with being able to drag windows from one display to the next: if your secondary display is arranged to be to the right of your primary one, for example, you can drag things to it through the right side of your primarcy screen.

  • As a Verizon FIOS client, can we just use Ethernet cable to connect to time capsule, or do we need their router to connect to the time capsule?

As a Verizon FIOS client, can we just use Ethernet cable to connect to time capsule or do we need the Verizon router to connect to time capsule?

The Time Capsule is indeed a wireless router with simultaneous dual band capability...and a hard drive for backup purposes. You can use that to your advantage if you configure the Time Capsule as I suggested in Bridge Mode.
The Time Capsule will provide a 802.11n 5 GHz band and a 802.11n/g/b compatible 2.4 GHz band to allow virtually any device to connect to the network.
I suppose that you could also use the "g" wireless network provided by the Verizon router as a "guest" network or something similar if you really do need another wireless network.
It might be possible to configure the Time Capsule as the main router on the network....that's a question for Verizon. But even if you might be able to do this, I'm sure it is not supported by Verizon, so you would be on your own in the event of any Internet connection difficulties on your service.
And, since the Time Capsule does not have a built in modem....you would still need to add a separate modem to the installation anyway.
That's why my suggestion is to use the Verizon device as the "modem" and let the Time Capsule provide the dual band wireless network and of course, handle the Time Machine backups.

  • Hundreds of clients still use CS2, but we want to upgrade--what to do?

I know InDesign backwards compatibility and version conversion (or lack thereof) can be a contentious subject, and I know it's been discussed here at great length (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/641138?start=0&tstart=0), but I thought it might be worth a try to present my production department's dilemma. What to do when InDesign CS2 is getting more and more buggy on our Macs, but moving to CS5 would make our files unusable for most of our clients?
We've been putting off dealing with this issue as long as we could, but it's becoming more and more urgent as Adobe releases new CS versions.
    The details:
I'm the production manager/art director for a small inhouse art department. We have 5 art department Macs and 7 editorial department Macs running CS2 (InDesign, Illustrator and PhotoShop) in 10.5 or 10.4, depending on the Mac.
Our company sell and distribute editable InDesign CS2  files (puzzles, graphics and so forth) to hundreds of clients around the world, most of whom are newspapers.
It'd be really nice if they'd upgrade, but newspapers are cutting their budgets and laying off staff left and right, and they're certainly not about to upgrade if they can avoid it. Seriously: a large percentage of them are still using Quark 4 in Mac Classic, which we can't support, so they have to recreate the puzzles from scratch using text and eps files. (The puzzles we still distribute as Quark files we have to create in 6.5 and backsave to 5, though I realize there is software out there from Marksware that could solve this problem.)
I'd love to just give them PDFs... But these files need to be editable so that the newspapers can change them to match their own fonts and styles, or edit them to fit, or translate them into other languages. (We create them with generic fonts such as Helvetica and Times that all newspapers are bound to already own, since we can't distribute fonts along with the files).
Meanwhile, as our own computers get upgraded or replaced, InDesign CS2 is causing more and more issues--it crashes all the time, doesn't work right in Snow Leopard (we had to downgrade back to regular Leopard), and of course won't open files created in later versions, since someone with CS5 or CS4 can't backsave to CS2.
So what are the possible solutions? Has anyone else dealt with this? What have you done? Some things I've considered:
Trying to create editable PDFs... but many of the clients we have are not particularly tech-savvy, and I have to admit I'm not sure how to do this in an efficient and user-friendly way.
Buying CS5 for just department, and digging through eBay and other channels to buy just enough copies of CS3 and CS4 to use as a bridge back to CS2. But this just seems like such a clunky and inefficient solution that would significantly slow down all those nice production workflows I spent so much time streamlining.
Letting clients know that the oldest version we could support is CS3. But that still leaves the problem that we'd have to get a bunch of copies of CS4, which is no longer the latest!
Sigh... this is driving me nuts! Any suggestions are appreciated!

Thank you all for your responses! Peter, you're correct that I did already pretty much know the answer, but I was hoping there was just some trick or solution out there that we hadn't thought of that other InDesign users had come across.
We are indeed trying to hold on to and maintain some older Macs for using CS2, and even have a Mac still running Classic for Quark 4 (oh, and Pagemaker--my goodness, I forgot about all our Pagemaker documents!). And I'll talk to the  folks here about setting up a more robust long-term technology plan.
Bob, you are also correct that in hindsight my company probably should have bought each version as it came out, and maybe we will do that going forward.
But I have to say I'm still frustrated that no third-party conversion app exists, especially since the files we create for distribution are quite simple -- they don't use any of the advanced features of the software at all. Oh well!

  • Airport Express for Airplay Audio Stream while still using iPhone's 3G/4G Internet?

I'd like to use an Airport Express to stream music from my iphone via Airplay (AMP > Analog RCA's > Minijack Splitter > Airport Express). Here's the rub: I wont have an internet connection where this setup is located at.
Basic networking would make it impossible to get online with thise becaue the iphone would be looking at the Airport as the default gate.
I understand that you can setup the network on your phone to be a static IP, subnet, and leave the default gateway blank. This should allow the phone to see the Airport/Airplay and still utilize the 3G/LTE of the AT&T service. Can anyone confirm this?  UPDATED, THIS PIECE WORKS LIKE A CHARM.
If that works, that's great, I could stop there, but I'd like to take it a step further to make it easier to use by someone other than a network engineer. Can you set the DHCP server on the Express to give out a Blank default gateway, or will you need to configure the network on each device you connect to it?
The last piece isn't a deal killer for me, but it would make it super easy to use for others.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!
    Ryan

Hello TKSF78. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I want to use my Airport Express to stream my music to my stereo so I can listen to music while still using the WIFI connection for internet.
In order to do both simultaneously, you just need to reconfigure the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to join the wireless network created by the other router.
The following is the basic settings to do so:
AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
o Wireless Network Name: <enter the Network Name or SSID of the wireless network that you want your AX to join>
o Wireless Security: <select the appropriate security type>
o Wireless Password: <enter the appropriate wireless security password>
AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)

  • I'm still using Snow Leopard because heard too many horror stories about upgrading to Lion. But I can't upgrade Safari unless I upgrade OS. Is Mavericks any better than Lion?

I'm still using Snow Leopard OS because I heard too many horror stories about people upgrading their OS to Lion.  But I can't upgrade Safari anymore unless I upgrade the OS. I get messages constantly telling me I need to upgrade my web browser, and have increasing problems correctly viewing pages (like L.A. TImes, NY TImes) because Safari needs upgrading.
I can't really tell what the advantages are to upgrade to OS Mavericks or OS Yosemite because it seems most are intended for mobile apps, and I only use my desktop.
My last upgrade to SNow Leopard wiped out 2/3 of my iPhoto collection. No idea why and no fix. Macs used to be the epitome of compatibility for upgrades — not anymore.
What are my options? What issues would I encounter if I upgrade OS to Mavericks or to Yosemite? WHat are likely problems, advantages and disadvantages?
Thanks for any help sent my way.

If you do want to upgrade.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks/Yosemite.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.
    Application Compatibility
    Applications Compatibility (2)
    Do a backup before installing.
One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install Mavericks, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won't have to go though the revert process.

  • Moved library to external HD, iTunes still uses old iTunes Library.itl file

    Howdy-
    I'm running Windows 7 & iTunes XXX
I moved my library from my laptop internal hard drive (C:\Users\jasonbar\Music\iTunes) to my external hard drive (G:\iTunes).
    I followed the recommended procedure:
1 - Edit/Preferences: check "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized"
2 - Edit/Prefrences: click "Change" & input "G:\iTunes" into box to denote new library location
    3 - File/Library/Organize Library & check "Consolidate Files"
Now, I've found that iTunes still uses the old "iTunes Library.itl" file in the old location (C:\Users\jasonbar\Music\iTunes).  For the sake of convenience (and to make the library entirely self-contained on the external HD & to protect it from possible laptop loss/failure), it would be swell if I could migrate that file over to my external hard drive also.  But, if I remove the "iTunes Library.itl" file from the old location & copy it to the new iTunes directory, iTunes just doesn't seem to be able to figure out that there's a nice "iTunes Library.itl" file on my external hard drive that it can use.
Is there any way to achieve what I want?
    Thank you,
    -Jason

I assume you have your iTunes folder located on your other drive (no Music folder enclosing it.) On your startup volume you have a /Home/Music/ folder but the iTunes folder has been removed. OK, so far?
Go to where the real iTunes folder is located. Select the folder then CTRL or RIGHT-click and select Make alias from the contextual menu. You should see a new icon appear named "iTunes alias" with a little curly arrow in the lower left corner of the icon. Now, copy the alias file to the /Home/Library/Music/ folder on your startup volume. Rename it to just "iTunes" (no quotes.) Delete the alias you created on the other drive.
Now when you double-click on the iTunes alias in your /Home/Music/ folder your real iTunes folder should open up. Now if you open iTunes application it should re-discover the iTunes folder.
Or you can do what the other posted suggested. Simply point iTunes to the new location of your iTunes folder. Open iTunes Preferences, click on the Advanced icon in the toolbar. Click on the Change button, locate the new library location, click on OK button of the Open dialog.
