Download Help?

Hello,
I'm new to the JAVA scene and have Three questions.
1.I have Win XP home so is " NetBeans IDE v 3.5.1 with J2SE v 1.4.2 COBUNDLE" the right download?
2.Is it possible to obtain a CD ROM of this software for my os type. And if so How?
3.Is J2SE the platform I use to make Beginner level apps-advanced.?
Never hurt's to be sure.

I'm new to the JAVA scene I recommend you not use an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) to learn Java. NetBeans is a good IDE, but it hides WAY too much from you, and makes it VERY dificult to learn Java. Also, the learning curve using an IDE is steeper and longer, since you have to learn Java and the IDE at the same time. Write your own code using your favorite text or program editor. Learn the details of Java first; once you have a good grounding in the language, try an IDE - you'll better understand what it's doing, that way.
1.I have Win XP home so
3.Is J2SE the platform I use to make Beginner level
apps-advanced.?If you don't use an IDE, the Java you want is this one:
Go to http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html
and, in the first row under the heading Download J2SE v 1.4.2_0x, click on the word DOWNLOAD in the column labeled SDK. In a later page, pick the version for Windows.
After downloading, go here and read through #6:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/install-windows.html
Install the software according to instructions. If you encounter problems, see the section "Troubleshooting the Installation" in the instructions.
Below is a Helloworld program.
-------HelloWorld.java--------
public class HelloWorld
public static void main (String[] args)
System.out.println("Hello World!");
Copy and paste it into your editor and save it as "HelloWorld.java" Use capitalization, Java is case-sensitive. If you're using Notepad, quote the name when saving, otherwise Notepad adds ".txt" to the name. Verify that you've got the file where you want it and that it's named correctly.
Open a Command window by clicking the Windows Start button, Programs, MS-DOS Prompt in Windows 9x/ME, and Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt in Windows 2000 or XP.
In the same folder as HelloWorld.java, enter javac - the program should print out a list of options starting with "Usage: javac..." If not, set your PATH - see below.
Again in the same folder as HelloWorld.java, enter javac HelloWorld.java and the javac compiler will create HelloWorld.class. If it was successful it will not give any messages. Check that the file is created.
Again in the same directory as HelloWorld.java, enter java -classpath . HelloWorld with the spaces and the period:
java [sp] -classpath [sp][period][sp] Helloworld
The program should run. If it doesn't, recheck that you followed the instructions.
2.Is it possible to obtain a CD ROM of this software
for my os type. And if so How?Yes, the Sun Starter Kit contains the SDK (and it contains much, much more! - 8 cd's for $30 (or 2 DVD's for $20) with lots of Sun software, both free and limited trials) and is at http://wwws.sun.com/software/sunone/starterkit/
You can also buy books that include the SDK, although these are usually one or two releases behind.

  • Error Message When Installing Download Helper 4.8.2 Add-On

I've updated to Firefox 3.6.13. The Add-on tab shows that there are add-on updates to be installed. When I download these flash download updates (Download Helper and Flash Video Downloader) and then try to install them I get an error message saying they can't be installed due to an "error in parsing value" message, "declaration dropped." All other updates are fine.
Any idea what may be the problem?

  • Download Helper, even with paid converter upgrade, gives "Invalid Capture File" errors and will not record audio, with "File Creation Error - Unable to rename/copy audio file" Error.

Download Helper Screen Capture worked to capture video if the default "no audio" option is active. But, no audio. The "speakers" or "microphone" audio options are confusing....the audio to be captured is from the video, so what do you choose? With either "speakers" or "microphone" selected, the captured file has poor audio and no video. Re-capture efforts (speakers) get "Invalid capture file error" and "File Creation error- Unable to rename/copy audio file"
The paid upgrade of "Converter" doesn't work.
Instructive documentation - not very good.
Suggestions - Need time delay between initiation of "Record" and starting the video to be recorded.
Could use timer tracking of the record process.
Are there operating system limitations? (Have Windows XP Pro)

That is an issue for the developer of that Download Helper.

  • When I open a document from a website in the browser a copy is saved automatically by download helper even if I just want to view.

When I click to view a word, excel, PDF or other file on a website I am presented with a window that says
"you have chosen to open ........etc What should Firefox do with this file?
    Open with
    Save file....."
If I choose the option "Open with" the file opens and I can view the file but the file is automatically downloaded and saved. I then have to navigate to the folder on my hard drive by right clicking on the item in the downloads window, selecting open containing folder and then physically deleting the file. If I don't do this then the containing folder saves the unwanted downloaded file.
Do I have a setting wrong/how can I stop Firefox/download helper from automatically downloading files I only want to view?

A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank).
If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.

I have mac pro and firefox 3.0.19
I am trying to download a video from youtube.?
I can see the video. I want to download it and save in my computer to see it again.
I have download helper. While the 3 red, blue, and yellow sphere are turning, It gives me the choice of place to save, and when I click and choose desktop , for example, this message comes ."Conversion requires an external application that appears to be missing on your system. Configure conversion ?
When I click on okay, another page comes, which says" converter and a box next to it . in the box is written FFMpeg. but I can change it to MEncoder. In another box, says configure conversion rules. When I click on it, nothing happen. Thanks for your help.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== I want to download a video from youtube

No, this reply is not helpful. It simply generates this little gem:
"This service requires the conversion feature to be enabled.
    Configure conversion ?"
And the same clicking on buttons that makes nothing happen and going around in circles with the escape key.

  • Download helper downloads 0 bytes on my Firefox 3.6.12/Ubuntu 10.10. Also I cannot install Downloadhelper update. I get a -228 error but my cache is OK.

Download helper worked successfully under previous versions of Ubuntu and Firefox. I have tried to upgrade but I get an error message 228 (locked cache?). I have checked the cache but it is OK (50 mb). I can't update any extensions/add-ons.
When I try to download using Download Helper I get 0 bytes. I would try another download helper but Firefox won't let me install any extensions/add-ons.
BTW Download Helper works fine under my XP/Firefox installation (I run a dual boot computer).

  • Firefox updated, Video download helper no longer works, no error msg. I have uninstalled both Firefox and VDH, reinstalled, VDH still does not work, Why

Video Download Helper does not work after most recent update. I have cleared cache and cookies, uninstalled both Firefox and the helper, that has not corrected. When Firefox does an update are the "vendors notified so they can see if their product needs changes in order to be compatible? This may sound like a stupid ?, but it makes sense tome. Telling me to download something else, in my eyes is not REALLY solving the problem.

Don't uninstall 36. Just download and install 35 over top and you don't lose any data. I already did and everything works just fine. But I did remove VDH first.

  • Download helper add-on no longer works after update of firefox, what has changed?

After I updated Firefox to 18.0.02 the download helper stopped working on 98% of the websites I watch TV programs on. What has changed and will it be returned to its previous condition?

Are you using an add-on as a download helper?

  • Download Helper no longer shows up in Fire Fox's Download Screen.

Firefox just automatically downloaded/updated Download Helper Ver 4.9.13 the other day and something weird happened. It still links and downloads Video's off the web just fine but it doesn't show up in the Firefox Download list. The animated Icon in windows 7 shows the progress of the download but nothing else, so the problem there is I have no idea how fast the download is nor do I see multiple downloads progress.

You are running Firefox nightly version 21.0 as reported with your question. (Video) Download Helper 4.9.13 is currently compatible with Firefox 3.0 - 20.0a1.
You need to report that problem to the developer - http://www.downloadhelper.net/support-expert.php

I RESOLVED THE ISSUE. I uninstalled the converter. Re installed after a cold boot.
The sites that would not load properly: I did a ixquick search of the titles that wouldn't download and found them at another location. They then downloaded perfectly. from the new location

  • Everytime I open Firefox I get a page from Video Download Helper. How do I get rid of this page once and for all?

Since two days, everytime I open firefox an extra tab opens up from Download Helper.
I close it everytime, but it's getting annoying.
I've tried the Extra - Options screen, I've tried the Help with Firefox screen , I can't seem to find a solution.
Please help me get rid of it before I might toss my screen out the window in a few days...

Did you check for problems with the file prefs.js in the Firefox Profile Folder and rename or delete the file?
Windows may be hiding the .js file extension, so check the Properties via the right-click context menu to be sure.

  • It's not just Download Helper v4.8.3, it's also RealPlayer: the download display window shows .mp3 files downloading, but nothing shows in the folder when it is done downloading.

    # Question
It's not just Download Helper v4.8.3, it's also RealPlayer: the download display window shows .mp3 files downloading, but nothing shows in the folder when it is done downloading.
Also in the '''Properties''' window of Windows Explorer I '''no longer have the Details tab''', so I can't update my mp3 files with Artist, Album, Genre, etc. But the details tab does show up when I access it thru Windows Explorer.
I ran the AVG rescue disc an no viruses found. Now on '''FF3.6.15''' '''RealPlayer''' shows when I right click but then '''immediately disappears and an icon appears in the System Tray''', but as soon '''as I hover my mouse over it it disappears'''.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
How can I get this fixed? I have time-sensitive mp3s that I won't have access to anymore if I don't get this resolved in a hurry. (no pressure on you, I'm the one that's stressed about this) Can you help? Thanks so much for responding to this '''inquiry.''''''bold text'''

  • Can't re-install download helper

Video download helper was uninstalled while my computer was being worked on. I re-installed it but now I don't have the download helper icon that you put on the toolbar. It is not on my toolbar nor in the toolbars option folder.
How can I get the download icon to put on my toolbar so that it will work?
    Thanks,
    Diane

I think in some other threads it was discovered that some extensions interfere with other extensions adding their icons to the toolbar. If you have other extensions which are not essential and you could live without them for 24 hours, try disabling them here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    Any difference?

  • Where can i get an older version of Download Helper?

Since the Download Helper no longer works with the new Browser/Add-on Update & it doesn't appear that it will be fixed anytime soon, where could I get and install an older version of the Download Helper?

Did you check for interference with other extensions?
Try a new profile with only that extension installed.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
